I loved the cartoon series The Real Ghostbusters, that’s what Frozen Empire is in live action but with an strong emotional undercurrent and hits the right beats to make some fun “music” metaphorically speaking; I give the movie an 8.5 out of 10

If you're old enough to know of the cartoon series (which the youtube channel "cinemasscare - avgn" talks about how its linked with the live movie) then you know of 80s-90s movie magic/quality, how the eff did you give this 8.5 then? it had ZERO quality control, ZERO character development. Its barely worth downloading, i am watching it NOW, picture the scene with annie potts wearing the ghost busting glove, what is it? whats its name? how does it work? there's no lore, they never talked about it or its technology except show it ONCE at the beginning, why is ANNIE wearing it?? she's the freaking receptionist, its not part of her character development, why is she wearing it? easy, because she's the original cast thus important thus she wears it. Its lazy script writing, they forgot the basics of character/script writing. Winston is rich, he should have a bigger 2nd building with a whole bunch of scientists testing different tech. No one got any character development not even slimer (duh i know that guy) where's louis tully?

As a franchise movie I will award it 7/10. But I expect an extended Blu-Ray with 15 extra minutes might make it up to 7.5 or even an 8.

I don't know where those critics came up with the notion that this movie was a so-called "cut and paste" copy of the original, because apart from a few elements of fan service, it was vastly different to the original movie.
I really liked the movie, even, and probably especially, because of the Phoebe/Harmony friendship. I was sad when she passed on at the end of the movie, I would have loved to see her as a ghostly ally against other ghosts in future movies.
That British actor, James Acaster, he has a dark sense of humour. He hosts his own show called Hypothetical, and his time on Taskmaster was hilarious. I could imagine him coming up wit the Grandfather ghaunted Grandfather Clock on his Hypothetical show too.
Here in New Zealand, we did not have that Tarot trailer before the movie, we just had Kong/Godzilla and a local movie called The Boy And The Mountain.
My local theatre does not have the merchandise that yours has, so I've never had a chance to get any of those popcorn buckets, but they all sound amazing.
I really enjoyed the movie, there were some jokes and humorous situations near the start of the movie that I got a chuckle out of, that not many other people got. I never found it boring, or overly stuffed, I thought that the pacing was really quite good, I'd give it an 8 out of 10.

You're right, its not cut and paste, if they did it would be a better movie, they just took some random people and gave them toy guns, none of the characters had character development with lots of plotholes, how did fire bender guy live in a small apartment NOT know there's a secret room for his grand mother?? how many rooms are there in a small apartment?? they didn't even explain how garaka has influence outside of the orb he can't just brainwash any random ghost and get them to release him? no dana no tully meh

Enjoyed it! Was a fun movie that I even enjoyed more upon the second viewing. People are being way too critical and seem to be jumping on a hate band wagon against it instead of just sitting back and enjoying the ride. Aykroyd and Hudson still show that their passion is strong for this franchise.

You DO realise people love this is DUE to the franchise and meeting peoples childhood expectations right? this is why people have been begging for a gb3 for the last 40yrs, then they finally made the game with the full cast to shut people up, this is NOT a popcorn-fest kind of movie but something bigger, even then its still lazy writing and lazy casting, the fire bender guy looked like he should be on "dude wheres my car"

The movie is TERRIBLE and has MANY plotholes, firstly we'll start with your beef, why is the female ghost in this? ghosts shouldn't be given a face and personality it makes busting ghosts awkward (which barley happens anyways in the movie), this made the movie feel like something else eg a drama (eg a patrick swayze movie) they could've made her OLDER eg early 19th century, wtf is the chant? it was SO vague, is the chant also part of garaka? how HE wandering outside the orb? why does he communicate to the female ghost and not just fully control her? why not get HER to recite it instead of a convoluted plan to get PHOEBE to figure a way out to be a ghost and make HER do it? to my gripe why is annit pots wielding a hand gun thats NEVER talked about? no lore and fyi she's the receptionist, why is she wearing it?

My issues with it are. Too many characters. Some of the stuff in the trailers I really liked wasn't in the film. And I felt like the final battle went by so quickly. I was hoping to see the busters out in the frozen city just a little bit. Or the roof scene with Paul Rudd from the trailer. Other than that I'm ok with it. Definitely gonna watch it again! I'll be picking up the 4K to add to my collection! I hope we get another film in a few years.

Fix this damn movie! Slimer and Venkman needed a scene. Slimer needed to eat the mini putts at Rays Occult. Trevor should have gone to Venkman for women advice. Callie and Denise should have had a talk about what it’s like to love a GB focusing on Denise’s heartbreak with losing Louis and Egon. Garraka should have escaped and regrouped in Central Park with his army of ghosts and those ghosts should have resembled ghosts from all the movies, the games, and the cartoons. When Garraka went to march with his army towards the firehouse, there should have been this awkward pause to let the jogger ghosts run past them and away from the fight. There should have been more time spent in the lab and that’s where Winston should have placed phoebe when she got benched. In the lab when Phoebe is introduced to Lars, we should have learned that Lars joined GB to work beside Egon but never got the chance. We should have also learned that Melody works in the lab with Lars and that she is there to help them developed different ways to help, catch, and defeat ghosts but then secretly she is there to spy for Garraka. We should have learned that they were collecting Pukie puke at the lab and that’s why they had him in that cell. Later, we learn that they mixed Pukie’s slime puke with a something that made it flammable and phoebe and Lars designed a special weapon that combined the slime blower and a flame thrower together in one to fight Garraka and the person that gets to use it in the big battle/fight scene is Podcast. We should have gotten scenes where Slimer communicates by nodding his head up and down to say yes and sticks his tongue out and blows to answer no. There should have been a post credit scene where the ghost busters introduce the jogger ghost to a treadmill within the firehouse and that’s where we see him in the next movie still running. The old ghostbusters and the new ghostbusters should have put brass on all their protonpacks to prepare for the Garraka/ Ghost Army battle and then we learn that Lars and Phoebe with the help of Melody designed a spectral particular reversal ghost bullet that can be used to destroy the worst of the worst ghosts but its only effective on the lower ranked class ghosts. At the finally of the battle all the new GB’s and the original GB’s surround Garraka and cross streams together on each side of him while the fire master and Podcast worked together bringing the heat. These and so many more scenes that were short and sweet would have made the movie completely EPIC!

I avoided spoilers to see this movie last Thursday. Phoebe was poorly written and became a villain! Her ambiguous infatuation with Melody was a time waster. Ray Stantz saved the movie, yet Gil Kenan forgot to have him consult Tobin's Spirit Guide? The containment unit looked so shabby, no visual improvements were adapted from The Real Ghostbusters. The franchise now seems to be dumbed down for the general public.

37 YO geek dad here. As a movie - a 5, maybe 6 out of 10. Had its issues and certainly valid criticisms. As a ghost busters movie, basically an RGB movie - 8/10.

  • @Dude-oh8vq
    @Dude-oh8vq 4 місяці тому +1

6/10, but I still appreciated many aspects of the film.
The tech was amazing, as was the new lab, the OG's were all good with what they were given, Murray was surprisingly a highlight again with his perfect Venkman return, some of the Garraka mythos was excellent, Slimer looked good, opening ten minutes with the Adventurer's Society followed by the Ecto chase was decent, and there were a few good lines here and there. The camera shot where it follows Callie and Gary down the pole onto the kitchen area was stunning!
Most of everything else was a little disappointing. Comedy barely hit, too much focus on the teens, silly subplot with Melody and subpar ghost FX for her, not to mention that most of the ghosts were all blue for some reason. The frozen empire aspect didn't really materialize until the end, and it was a little bit of a letdown as I was expecting things to freeze up at least halfway through the film. Still a pinch too much CGI, and it felt unneeded on Garraka, and I found some lines and reactions to be a tad too hammy this time. Peck being back was so so, and the mini pufts were yet again dumb. I did like the ionic separator sequence though, and found that clever.
I'm very glad that it's making money though, because I do want more films, but maybe with less of the new cast and more of the OG's combined with brand new characters. If I had to pick any of the new cast to return, it would be Gary and Phoebe, but in smaller roles, but everyone else needs to take a break. Also was a little disappointed that they cut some of Bill's scenes, as well as Dan's scenes that were in the trailers and spots. They completely deleted Venkman from the first laboratory scene, even though we can see him present there in the international trailer, and we can see his neck and shirt near Phoebe in one shot, only for him to disappear in the wide shot. Lots of questionable editing and continuity here.
Next film needs new writers, Dan and someone else, and a new director. Maybe SONY will please the fans this time and release all of the deleted material on the dvd. I want to know what Phosphor looked like before they replaced it with Bonesy.

I think the critics are too kind...and this is coming from a super-fan...
At the start, it was only kinda bad with mildly lame dialogue, like the "no gunner seat!" and "I have a ghost to bust," lines, repeated reminders of character's ages, the sudden dumb use of that smash hammer on the watch, the over use of Mini Pufts...all that was bad enough...but I could handle it...and then the chess game happened...and Jar-Jar Ghost Girl managed to tank the franchise. She was awful. Ghosts aren't like this in these films. Before she appeared, I thought Egon coming back again for that scene would be the worst choice they could make...and I was very, very wrong. They COULD get stupid and introduce out-of-left-field concepts without working them into this world organically, it turns out. That girl introduced the dumbest, most unnecessary plot device I've seen in years. It seems her entire plan depended upon Phoebe's use of that soul machine, which came from nowhere and was crowbarred into the plot for nothing. We saw it take spirits from items with zero indicator that humans would think of trying it on themselves, let alone child geniuses, or that it would even work. Phoebe is destructively stupid, it turns out. The plot thinks Callie is, too. Phoebe gets grounded and has her suit taken...and then nobody cares that she is wearing it and went on an unsuccessful mission...
The Firemaster, oh boy, was unnecessary, and him coming down the pole in that armor almost made me walk out. Somebody wrote that...somebody filmed that. That wasn't a laugh...at all. I felt sad and ashamed for Kenan/Reitman. Who approved ANY of this? And if proton streams aren't fire, as Lucky learned, how does Fireguy suddenly control them to save Gary/Trevor?
And they chased a garbage bag, folks, with a deus ex possessor ghost, right before twenty NYPD officers witnessed Phoebe destroy a clearly-living stone lion...but they drew down on HER instead and nobody came to their defense.
And how does Winston entrust the business to Egon's family, yet keep an entire lab a SECRET from them, all while letting their system/equipment fall into disarray? The actual team of GBs gets ZERO support from the lab...and Winston/Janine/Lars are all secret squirrel about it, which only endangers the Spengler family and the city further. None of this was good. Everyone made bad decisons. There was no heart. Only Ray watching the Ecto drive by gave us any attempt at natural emotion, whatsoever.
And the member berries were catastrophic. Insulting, even. Calling Peck "dickless" again (none of that crowd was in that room in 1984), the library guy the shot held onto for entirely too long (a 40-year man at that job, we're to believe?), the library ghost (copy/pasting her very "shhhhh" animation from GB1 was a bad move), the constant "light is green, trap is clean" usage, the from-nowhere idea that the containment unit would somehow fold in on itself as a trap after reversing the flow of ghosts...good god man...HOW did they go for ANY of this???
They have officially Last Jedi'd the Ghostbusters franchise and I'm quite sad about it. This was so, so, SO much worse than I imagined it could be...and it makes me realize that I was too forgiving of the stupid Crunch wrappers, maid notification door hangers and twinkies in Afterlife.
That fans are giving this a pass in spite of these things worries me. There were no jokes and too many memberberries. We survived the unfunny, vomit-inducing Answer the Call garbage...but I don’t know how GB actually survives creative decisions like this...

As a fan it pains me to say this but I have to be honest - Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a bad movie.
The film is total a mess. It's boring, poorly paced, confusing, convoluted and overly complicated. There are far too many characters, some of which have been needlessly shoehorned into the story. It's overstuffed with unnecessary dialogue, dull subplots, pointless characters and scenes which go on for far too long. It's not funny either. I didn't laugh once during the movie, and neither did the audience I was watching it with. Neither is it frightening. Laughs and scares are the two things you expect from a Ghostbusters film but this film is completely devoid of any.
Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan may be talented directors, but they're the wrong people to be writing Ghostbusters films. Afterlife was mediocre at best, but Frozen Empire is just plain bad.
With a heavy heart, I rate this film 3 out of 10.
I feel a lot of fans are in denial about just how bad this film is.

Watch the making of gb2 and you realise why frozen empire sucks, REAL NY citizens come out to greet the actors versus the post credits of frozen empire where paid extras ARTIFICIALLY greet the crew ua-cam.com/video/-Vte68NZUDY/v-deo.html - the movie sucks why? ghost catching family?? are the proton packs toys?? why is the teacher in this? because he MAY of banged the mum? no one got character development (even pitch meetings joked about this) eg slimer, barely airtime no explanation on his character except "duh i know that guy", venkmin running his ectoplasm hands on old valuable library books is more character development then modern films (and this) it proves his a jerk, why? because that's who he is, his a college drop out, egon is a genius, ray glues these pair together (his like both) and winston is the running gag where ghosthunting is a regular 9-5. I don't know ANY of the characters, there was ZERO character development, where's louis tully? wheres ghost hunting montage + music (gb2) where's looking up ghost lore on computers?? venkmin comes in at the VERY end? the film should just be the old crew and phoebe/podcast as the trainees on the side. This is better then 2016 but if that's your measurement of a quality film we're in deep trouble p.s the fire bender ONLY realised his grand mother has a secret room?? you live in a freaking apartment, how big is the place??
