You have such great spaces. I forgot what you said you are going to be doing with this space? Some of these spaces don't seem to need a lot of work. Cleaning and painting works wonders. Can't wait to see you furnish it. So glad you're happy and found what your heart desired.
I like that old kitchen room a lot, and it obviously works well as a guest annex. Have you thought about putting a shower room in the back section, perhaps with a small window added? There's also the flooring in the main section - and if you don't intend to tile that, then some garage floor paint would help keep down the dust, and that's a quick solution. You can then stick a rug on top to make it homely. The point being that this room could very quickly become more useable, now that you've done the more difficult stuff with the walls. I'm guessing you're already proud of what you have achieved in a year! Such a lovely home.
The Old Kitchen is going to be a great little place. I’m putting in a shower and toilet in the back part as you suggest and will be tiling the floor. I think it needs to be levelled first though 😅
Hope you have been writing ,all down what you have done so far ,make lovely book ,i only started watching when you, first house ,so i missed your van life ,My life as beem mostly country ,thats why i love your place ,
Very educational this week watching you and other youtubers harvesting and preserving olives from one end of Portugal to the other. A time-honoured ritual. Will get my chance to pick and preserve next season, albeit with only three mature trees. You have accomplished so much in just a year, Suzi👏🏼.
Thanks Lisa. Harvesting olives is actually a much more pleasant experience when you only have a few trees. I only have five myself but it’s plenty for me. What region are you in?
Sylvain.
A lovely recap Suzi 👍🏻 I have to say that following your restoration has made me think about how I will look at properties in need of work when I’m actively searching next year (exciting!) You have created a beautiful home that I would be 💯 happy with. And yes, being surrounding by the natural world is non-negotiable 💚
Ah Suzi you are living the dream I wish I could be as brave as you to make the move ..I was thinking if you maybe had some castor wheels on your heavy furniture to make life easier moving around all the heavier pieces to help clean under them etc.
Not sure if it's the same place, but I stayed in Lourinhã for a while, near Peniche. I thought it was quite nice but the closer you get to the coast the flatter and starker the landscape gets. Compared to central Portugal where I ended up moving to, it doesn't compare.
Leria is north of Nazare and has a lot of sand dunes along the coastline as well as pine forest so had its own type of beauty. I much prefer the region I m in now 😀💕
Hi Sergio, thanks for your thoughts. It’s very difficult making windows through the stone. I have an idea though on creating more natural light 😃 You are right about the tops of the bottles for the olives, I keep them loose 🙏💕

If the property is still held (that is, owned), by the family, even if they are not present on the property, the property is not abandoned. And, after an certain interval, perhaps 10 years, the county or municipality or however local government is organized in Southern Europe, may exercise "eminent domain" with reference to property without an owner. And assume ownership. In the briefest of terms, if one has to buy an "abandoned propery" the property is not abandoned. It is unoccupied, it may be derelict. But it is not abandoned. A contrario, if an container ship runs aground a few hundred yards offshore, and the containers start washing up on the beach, the container, and whatever it contains, may be claimed and possessed by whoever finds it.And the finder may assert ownership of whatever washed ashore. This occurred several years ago, in England. As you may recall.
Yes Anna, you are correct. When the word abandoned is used here in Portugal it refers to the building having being left for a long time with no-one living in it. The houses are still owned but the owners do nothing with them and they are left to become a ruin. Therefore the use of the word abandoned.
HI, with the salt its better to use hot water in a cup and dissolve it then add it to the water 👍
Thanks for the tip. I’ll do that when I need to replace the water 🙏💕

Just the way I like it 😀

Hello Maria, the ceiling will be white after I put in some insulation and white board like I have in the main house 😀🥰
Fantástico ❤❤❤

Nice to hear about your travels and your life
Thanks for listening 🙏💕
That old kitchen is really turning into a very nice usable space. Those white walls have absolutely transformed it.
Yes it is, little by little. It’s amazing what a bit of white paint can do 😀💕

I’d paint the ceiling and floor ( add rugs) Suzi , it’ll make the room look bigger and can be refreshed easily xx you’re doing a great job x
Thanks Susan. I’m going to insulate the ceiling first before painting and tile the floor 😀💕

If the property was abandoned, why did you have to buy it?
Still owned by someone/a family even though abandoned??
