I played catcher for 13 years and took a 91mph pitch STRAIGHT to my nuts. I never, ever, ever, ever played again without a cup. I walked about 10 feet before I threw up through my face mask. Absolutely the worst feeling I've ever felt next to badly breaking my right ankle.
Worst I had was playing football and took a helmet to the groin. I caught a bubble screen and my lead blocker released his defender the wrong way. I took a helmet straight to the crotch. It would've been called targeting nowadays because he launched, too. The cornerback kept alternating between apologizing and getting onto the other WR who basically threw him into me which was kind of funny in retrospect because my coaches were chewing him out too so he was getting it from both sides.
I didn't "get it" until the last camera angle. At first I thought the ball hit him there! 😂 Sympathies, Mookie! One time to wish you were a catcher, for sure!

I had a 5 minute pause, in my head, hit the ground, then vomited on the say to the HS nurse. 3 hours later and multiple ice packs I felt better. The nausea was finally gone. Should have gone to the hospital. Size difference is noticeable but not back then. No complaining though, 3 “wonderful “kids. I feel for anyone who gets a real racking. No bueno!

Yeah, the second the third baseman made contact with the ball in foul territory, the play was dead. Mookie could have stood anywhere off the bag and not been out from a tag.
The intense sharp pain slowly creeping into your gut is what gets you. You know it's coming but can't do anything except "try" not to look goofy. That has yet to be accomplished. 😆
I remember playing paintball for the first time when I was in my late 20s. In about the 4th game, I got shot straight in my schwenker. God almighty did that hurt!! It took about 5 minutes to recover. I made sure I always wore a cup from that point on and told my friends to do also.

One time in fall ball I switched spots with the 2nd baseman so he could play some catcher. He forgot his cup so I gave him mine thinking that I’d be safer out in the field than he would be behind the plate. A grounder hit to me took a weird bounce right in front of me and hit me like a boxer hits a speed bag. As it hit I could feel the “bang” on my “hang.” It was a pain I had never felt nor have I felt since. It couldn’t have been more perfect of a shot.
Shit definitely still hurt like a mf, thats just somebody who took it like an absolute champ! Makes my stomach churn thinking about the pain he must have felt 🤮

Never vomited but I have have four or five really good tags to my sack, not baseball related, I have been hit and bruised but no throwing up.
