How Expelliarmus Beat Voldemort's Avada Kedavra - Harry Potter Explained

- Hey guys,
In this video we'll be discussing Harry & Voldemort's final showdown in the Deathly Hallows where Harry ultimately takes down Voldemort. In this battle, Voldemort and Harry both use their signature spells, Expelliarmus and Avada Kedavra. In most circumstances (actually almost every other circumstance) the caster of Avada Kedavra would win this battle. However, in this instance Harry seemed to come out on top. In the video, we're going to delve in to why.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Harry Potter Theory Herpo the wizard explained ( the creator of the horcrux ) keep up the HP and Star Wars vids
Batman The Dark Knight bro he ain’t that bad
I’d like a “Life of CRooKsHANKs explained”
Exept Harry is NOT an owner of the Elder Wand. Longbottom is... Due to the rules of the ownership. Malfoy kill Dambldore. And Nevil later bested Malfoy there fore gains ownership of the wand... So... A hole in the theory.
SandroUNDEAD when did he best him?
The real magic is how Harry’s glasses stayed on
The Bengalee Sceptic, true
Josh Carillo, you’d think they were glued on since they stayed on. 😆
The Bengalee Sceptic he played quidditch too, much more Gs than falling from the tenth floor
That's because Harry is the true master of those glasses.
I lost mine on a merry go around
Harry holds the elder wand on the bridge
Elder wand: finally we meet master
Harry: starts breaking the elder wand
Elder wand: NANI!?
actually he put it back to Dumbledore in his grave. fully intact, but not without repairing his old one he got from ollivander in his first year that broke when hermione blew it in pieces, because she wanted to get nagini off of harry in godrics hollow
Lotuswalker he meant like in the movie
@@Lotuswalker always preferred that ending
don't worry, he didn't really do it. (in the real canon in the book he placed it back in Dumbledore's grave after repairing his own wand)
thats the most weeb thing ive ever read
Two reasons for that:
1. Voldemort's horcruxes were destroyed.
2. Harry was the TRUE master of the Elder Wand.
Dc5 J Harry still had a love charm I think because I read sumet about when dumbeldore and voldermort were fighting dumbeldore didn’t want to kill him because he knew that’s Harry’s love charm would go and then if he is not around he would probably die or it was all the wizards ghosts by him have him all of there mana/power
@Dc5 J That was because of the twin cores.
That’s why when Voldemort is just spamming Avada Kedavra on the staircase, Harry is just taking it because the wand won’t kill the master
Ivy Duhh yes that is a reason but he also was the true owner of the elder wand as when Malfoy disarmed dumbledore in half blood prince.Malfoy turned into the owner of the elder wand and then Harry disarmed Malfoy and became the true owner
Ivy Duhh no, harry had the love charm because Voldemort kept the blood that protected harry alive by taking his blood and putting it in his veins, therefore rendering him still protected as the protection lived on is Voldemort’s blood
Expeliarmus didn’t kill Voldemort Harry was the true owner of the elder wand so the elder wand wouldn’t kill its true owner so the Avada kedavra curse backfired
So in someway, he kinda committed suicide?🤔
Another reason because all the hocruxes were destroyed
Never thought Avadra Kedavra could turn you into ash though. Why wasn't there any body left behind?
The horcruxes was to make him vulnerable it had nothing to do with the death
He is right
Everyone knows Voldemort had arthritis. And got a cramp in his hand, causing a micro vortex inside his colon. This caused the spell to turn green, and in turn anything green hates arthritis. Thus the spell turnt on Voldemort giving him severe psoriasis.
James Ledford I didn’t understand a single word you said but ok
@@jesushentaichrist5729 you wouldn't

I think it was just myocardial infarction that killed voldemort. Nothing else.
I like how the final battle in the books end with Voldemort unceremoniously dying as Tom Riddle, a normal mortal man, while the movies make him die like some immortal being refusing to accept death.
Devin Dykstra which you prefer? I prefer books. Because Harry wanted to show Tom Riddle that he was a mortal, a human.
@@biddie6789 I also prefer the books. But it is interesting how much they felt they had to change that particular moment.
I like the book’s version better too. All I can think of in the movie now is Thanos snapping his fingers! 😆🤦♀️
He was transfigured into a bone and fed to Fang.
I wish they had showed Voldemort's duel with Kingsley, Slughorn and McGonagall. It might have illustrated how powerful he truly was and how infuriating it would be for him to struggle so much in killing Harry when he's able to easily duel 3 much more powerful wizards/witches.
becuse harry was holding the uno reverse card.
OVA Let's Play haha he’s just like “no u”
Voldemort: Arvada Kedavra!
Harry: uno reverse card
Voldemort: Oh, not again, well at least it can’t kill me
Harry: This one’s fatal
Voldemort: Oh crap
That's when Harry became known as Uno Who
Haha
Voldemort : Avada Kedavra
Harry : Expelliarmus
J.K.Rowling : PLOT ARMOR
@The Bengalee Sceptic Definitely. They're great books but dude... the plot armour
Harry was the owner of the elder wand so it could not kill its true owner it’s as simple as that doesn’t need a video to explain
@@MultiRibrob And what about Episode 4.
Elder wand: “I’m so glad to finally be in my true master’s possession”
Harry: *snaps wand*
1. The nagini horcrux was destroyed by Neville
2. Well, harry was the true owner of the Elder wand
Actually you are wrong. They explained it after the scene that when dumbledore died in the tower the one who disarmed him was not snape but malfoy. Thus voldemort's kill on snape did not earn him power of the elder wand. Instead when Harry disarmed malfoy he unknowingly gained ownership of it and became its true master. That is why voldemort couldnt use the wand to its potential as the one who disarms/kills its master gains the ownership of it as its true master.
What you said concerns a different issue regarding Harry's immortality and is not relevant to the wand and its true master in any way.
Yes, this is correct. The blood mess was a different issue unrelated to the wand but still related to Voldemort's death and Harry's life with the resurrection stone.
Was coming here to say that lol
the story in the video is still correct, that Harry is the true master of the elder wand. It's just that it didn't include in the video the explanation how Harry became the master of the elder wand. But the uploader is not wrong.
@@redenciofader2873 can I have a question in the battle Voldemort already disarmed Harry so why did Harry is still the master
@@boah2760 during their battle at the hogwarts in the movie, voldemort never disarmed harry.. if you were talking about the scene where both harry and voldemort were lying on the ground after they fell from somewhere high above the ground and both their wands were separated from them, i think that was not considered disarming..
So basically when Voldemort was reborn as long as he would live Harry would
be granted the very thing voldemort craved; immortality. Whether Harry was a Horcrux or not it didn’t matter as long as his mother’s magic was alive he couldn’t die
Voldemort became Harry's horcrux
I kind of feel bad for Voldemort. He tried and tried and tried and failed to kill Harry all because of some form of shenanigans or another. First it was Lily's protection that forced the spell to rebound, then it was accidentally making Harry a horcrux, and finally it was not knowing that the Elder wand served Harry.
This is what happens when ambition coupled with greed and little bit of homicidal maniac in there, you forget to read deeper into wands, and magick, the relationships of the wands etc that will grand you "wisdom" so you can form a proper plan, something that Dumbledore had. Voldemort was basically one against 10 people who were highly good wizards with much greater knowledge of wizardry stuff. Voldemort didn't had powerful allies, since Snape double crossed him. Snape was one of the best from all characters and he sided with Harry. His supporters were good, but not great. A realistic live example was Hitler, was he powerful? yes, was he brilliant? yes, did he turned into a maniac making people into soap? yes, someone like that cannot ever be into power, so all Europe + Russians went against him. No matter how powerful you are, no matter how special you are, when people unite against evil, they will win. Same with ancient greece, they used brilliantly their minds to win some pretty hard against the odds battles.... I mean we are nothing in numbers (I am greek), but back then they lived few highly brilliant people who over took the barbaric nature of the Persians. Harry Potter aside the phantasy factor of super magical beings, has some pretty realistic dynamics between people that do apply in real life. This where this story can resonate with millions. A todays example is Putin, is he great? yes, is he a leader? yes, did he a lot of good? yes, is he right now starting to become crazy? yes, this is where he will fall and start declining. There is no room for homicidal maniacs in our world.
That's like feeling bad for Hitler because the United States had to get involved. 😂
@@princesscharis whoa I didn't read your comment and said the short dumb version 😂

bro that's stupid as hell hearing that, and u do know it's not fuckin real right?
@@feliciaf8 I do not understand what you mean. Fuckin real? its a rumor, maybe its not "real", that doesn't lower the madness he had with the Jewish concentration camps. Even if this is an exaggeration and its not true, its still horrible what he did to people. But if you want to read his book you get awesome insights about propaganda and the benefit of that is to get educated to be able to see it when modern politicians and influencers are using the same tactics. Hitler did a war because he wanted his race to prevail, his war was racist. There are many similarities between Hitler and Voldemort. Thats the main point. Now arguing if he did made people into soap or not, is useless argument.
Omg the prophecy is wrong Harry did not kill him Voldemort killed himself

Expelliarmus worked for Harry due to 2 reasons:
1. Before Deathly Hallows, he was a Horcrux and the part of Voldemort living inside him granted resistance against the killing curse, this is the real power that was released along with Expelliarmus in preventing Avada Kedavra from reaching him.
2. In their last duel, Harry is no longer a Horcrux, but he was the true master of the Elder Wand and the wand itself retracted power because it didn't want to harm its master, again allowing Expelliarmus to defeat Avada Kedavra
In the book, no one aside Harry actually uses Expelliarmus in attempt to counter Avada Kedavra (even Dumbledore) the common replacement was Protecto, a spell that raises a shield which can deflect smaller spells back to its caster, since it cannot deflect the killing curse, it serves as a single-use defensive barrier because the curse will destroy the shield upon impact
In the movies there were so many instances where common wizards use Expelliarmus to fight Avada Kedavra which makes little sense because Expelliarmus is a very basic spell and that ruins the reputation of the Unforgivable Curses, making them suddenly so underwhelming
Harry Potter is the Rightful Owner of the Elder Wand, the wand never truly obeyed Voldemort. The casting of the Killing Curse, while yes powerful didnt function the same as if it would Voldemorts.
Harry was his unintentional Horcrux, a Horcrux he destroyed by his own hand with the Killing Curse with the Elder Wand. Harry was the Master of Death at this point. In the HP world one that makes you Master of Death gives you untold power. (I could be wrong on this). The Wand recognized its owner disobeyed Voldemort in the final spell Harry disarms him with Expelliarmus the wand wanting to be with its owner rebounded and hit Voldemort with his own spell. The Elder Wand was a pseudo living being as Ollivander says "The wand chooses the Wizard". It makes sense this way.
@Zee B My best guess is the Killing curse was much weaker in Voldys hands because the EW never belonged to him. It belonged to Draco Malfoy Voldy thought it was Snape because Snape killed Dumbledore on his order to keep Draco on the side of good. He always saw the good in others. When Harry Disarmed Draco in the Malfoy Manor fight thats when the wand belonged to Harry. Thus making the wand rebel against the user and siding with its owner. (Speculation of course).
@Zee B agreed but that spell according to the book makes a slashing effect
Wait… wasn’t harry just a wessel to a part of a soul of voldemort?
@@gaminganimals3950 At the point im talking about, no he wasn't. Voldemort himself killed the piece of his soul inside Harry unbeknownst to Voldemort. However Voldemort passed out after he "killed" Harry and he was gloating so much he didnt even notice Narcissa Malfoy lying to him about Harry being alive. So during the final confrontation Harry was no longer a horcrux.
You had to write an essay huh
Movie Elder Wand: So master, we finally mee--*SNAP*
Book Elder Wand: So master, we finally mee--*BURRIED*
Yeah, that poor wand.
Oooooh. It hits me after seeing on youtube the spells (although I've seen all the series). That on that final battle Harry use Expellearmus which surprised me (cuz after learning many spells coming from Harry), Avada Kedavra a death sentence is obviously more powerful compared to just disarming one's wand. Now I know! Thanks!
Dude your work is sensational. You deserve more subs than you have. You are great!
Thank-you!
OH MY GOD after some random viewings of hp this video puts so much into perspective for me! Thanks!!!!
It's just as simple as this.
The Elder Wand were in the possession of Dumbledore. Draco disarmed Dumbledore before Snape killed Dumbledore. With this, Draco became the master of the Elder Wand. Then Harry disarmed Draco and thus became the master of it before Voldemort steal it from Dumbledore's grave.
The Elderly wand backfired💀
Fantastic! Thanks for this
Damn yeah didn't know that bit. Awesome video.
Voldemort: Avada Kedavra
Harry&Merlin: Hold my spell
Very cool info !
Hey there I love Harry potter it is amazing keep up the good work I was thinking that in deathly hallows how did Harry kill Voldemort with expelliarmus
I love ur vids!
Voldmort was still missing several horcruxes to have his magic at full strength.
i love your vids dude
The Elder wand belongs to Harry Potter (because he disarmed Draco Malfoy), and when is used, she is sending the curse, to the owner's opponent (In this case - Voldemort).
I thought this video was going to upload on 2007
But its better today because Harry Potter Theory uploaded it
Also, by "unblockable" they mean defensive charms won't stop it not that it can't be haulted at all. Given there is a large enough mass or body of energy in its way (such as a powerful enough spell like expeliarmus) the spell can be blocked/parried.
Technically, the prophecy said it all., and I’ll summarize...”The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches, born as the seventh month dies and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal BUT HE WILL HAVE POWERS THE DARK LORDS KNOWS NOT”......that, I believe, answers any question about how Harry killed Voldemort. Voldemort made sure it would come to be when he first tried to kill him as a baby. Harry was always going to be more powerful than Voldemort....thanks to Voldemort.
Great video!!!
I have just finished watching the movie and got this in my recommended 🤔
Harry threw dust in his eyes before the fight
Though it wasn't in the text or film, in my mind's eye theater, I kind of imagined Harry casting expelliarmus a split second before Voldemort cast Avada Kedavera. This caused the wand to flip back on Voldemort at the exact moment he cast his curse, causing him to essentially cast it on himself. I prefer this version because it doesn't rely on some complex chain of events that determines who owns a special wand, but on Harry being just a tad bit quicker than Voldemort. In my mind, it was quicker reflexes with a complete and pure soul that defeated Voldemort, not a special tool. Harry Potter saved the world through clean living. :P
So what you’re telling me is that Voldemort spent all that time creating horcruxes only to become a horcrux himself...
Of course he has to have a part of his soul in his self?
This is very intriguing and good to know. I'm new to the HPU (I've only seen a few clips from random movies) for several reasons. My experience with the franchise is limited to those random clips and the Hogwarts Legacy game (which I - as of yet - have not completed in its entirety).
We need those Harry Potter fan fictions
In the movie it was because the horcrux were destroyed, if you watch closely you can see Voldemort's hand blackening before hes disarmed. He loses his strength and begins to die before Harry beats him in the duel.
You see the destruction of the last few horcrux visibly affects Voldemort in the movie, but that doesnt happen in books.
In the books it's different. Destroying his horcrux only made him vulnerable to permanent death, but the movies changed it to make it so Voldemort would die if they were all destroyed. You can even see it when Voldemort's hand begins to blacken before hes disarmed. Hes dead the moment Neville takes Nagini's head off. While in the book he dies the same way he did the first time, his killing curse is rebounded. Without any anchor to the living world, he falls dead.
In other words his killing curse did an uno reverse on him.
Can you do a video about the history of Quidditch?
New subscriber,
Long time wizard world fan.. Quick screwball question, regarding your video. Agree with everything that you said, but since the Potter family were in direct relations to the Peverell family and in direct ownership of two of the deathly hallows. The final and most powerful (of the three) would not harm him as well? Just a thought would love to hear your comments of do a video looking back at how manny times Harry thwarted Tom, using the things he coveted the most against him.
That means it was the reason of Harry's survival in forest
Hemant sinduriya no not at all
It was Lilly’s love counter curse
There was also the part in the forest right after Harry revives when voldemort uses the crucio curse not sure how to spell that and Harry feels no pain because the wand recognized him as the master so wouldn't hurt him. I think the line in the book goes something like the pain he expect that never came.
Harry has:
Elder Wand Master + Horcrux + Love + Resu Stone shoved up his ass.
That's a shit ton of defense + 4 lives Voldy has to kill
What I understood is that, as the Elder Wand couldn't kill Harry and the Avada Kadavra is unblockable, the Elder wand had to kill someone in that battle, and the only one that could kill was Voldemort. So that's why it "rebounded".
By the end of this video, I felt like I just watched a tennis match with my head going left and right and left and right again between Voldemort and Harry.
Love, love Harry Potter theory, because of love!

Top 10 anime betrayals
I believe it was also to do with the fact that all of Voldermorts Horcruxes (Voldemorts soul) had been destroyed... leaving him with an eighth of the soul he had in the first place
Harry has a lot more to live for then Tom especially in that moment with everything on his mind especially his feelings of responsibility for these events and his school, whatever Tom has to bring is the same overplayed power trope, that is how it appears he overpowered him at least in this scene, in this moment Harry officially becomes a better wizard.
I literally just can't even right now.
The two spells connecting the two wands in priori incantatem can only happen between sister wands, like Harry's and Voldemort's. Which means that the way the movie portrayed the fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort in OTP made no sense, and also made no sense in deathly hallows part 2 when their wands connected since nor Voldemort or Harry were using their original sister wands. The producers simply missed it.
It didn't. First round it was Priori incantantem and the fact Harry's wand and Voldemort's wand had the same core from the same pheonix. second time was due to that incident and resulting in Harry's wand recognizing both kin and foe which resulted in it destroying Malfoy's wand. Third time was due to the Elder Wand recognizing that harry was it's true master
Voldemort: I make you my horcrux
Harry *pulling out an uno reverse card*: no u
Always thought of it as the Elder Wand simply betraying Voldemort by letting Harry's Expelliarmus take effect.
As it was known for betraying its wielders, a spell causing it to leave its master's side should have reinforced the curse on the item that is displayed in the hands of an unworthy wielder.
I think of it as a sort of rock, paper, scissors situation. Harry triggered the Elder Wand's treachery, and the Elder Wand's A ada Kedavra going rogue backfired on Voldemort.
Harry is the Rock, the Elder Wand is the scissor, Voldemort is paper.
The rock bashed the scissors into stabbing the paper.
I do find it hard to believe that Voldemort didn’t realize that Draco was the true owner of the wand.
I think it's much simpler than that. Avada Kadavra can't be blocked with shield charms or wards. That doesn't mean it can't be blocked by other spells, such as expeliarmus, locking with it. If two spells collide, they may intertwine and wrestle against each other.
That happened with Dumbledore and Voldemort too, at least in the movie
Harry: Execute order 66
Wand: It will be done, my lord
There is a fact that many people aren't aware of, which is that killing curse is actually 'blockable.' You cannot block the killing curse by deffensive magics such as "protego," however, you can block it with a physical object. And some powerful magics like "expelliarmus" and "stupefy" have physical power, which is the same as a physical object for a moment. Do you think the killing curse would ignore (pass through) the Grindelwald's "protego diabolica" magic? No, I don't think so. You can even block the curse by "aguamenti."
My question is why didn’t Harry throw a rock at Voldemort to slow him down?
Video related to Phoenix plz
Plot twist. Voldemort pulls a Palpatine and comes back decades later in the new series, Albus Potter.
What about the fight in the goblet of fire when the same 2 spells are used? Does this change things? I think it could confuse this reasoning or maybe require a new explanation for goblet of fire's expeliarmas to make sence.
Umm. Excuse me. In Goblet of Fire too Harry had used this same spell against the Killing Curse. But yes then his wand was different. And even in Deathly Hollows aside from the fact that The Elder Wand couldn't kill Harry and rebounded on Voldemort, even then Harry's wand was also successfully doing Expelliarus. So both combined. And this time his wand was different as I assume from movie, as his original wand was damaged (I am still in process of reading all books).
In Goblet of fire though Voldemort and Harry have the same magical connection between spells and Voldemort was not using a wand that answered to Harry therefore meaning the wand could kill him.
As the prophecy stated one of them cannot live while the other survives. This was more true because they both had the protection so nobody else could kill them instead it would rebound off the protection seal and hit something else sealing the prophecy that one must kill the other to survive.
If you disarmed someone you will probably have ownership of the wand
When the last hocrus that was the snake was killed Voldemort was Very Very weak
Can you explain to us about Howlers?
Is everyone gonna ignore the fact that Harry could have been beaten so easily if they took his glasses?
So which was the ending for the elder wand? The Movie or the Book?
I was always under the impression that spells give different effects but not really stronger or weaker than the other. Voldemort used a killing curse but does it really mean its any stronger than expelliarmus?
Voldemort's Avada Kedavra didn't kill Harry Potter cause Harry was immune to it. Meaning if Voldemort wasn't such a spammer, he could have done almost anything else and killed him that way.

it just occurred to me why only the horcrux of voldemort died when voldemort hit him with the avada kedavra curse in the forest.
his mothers protection was still protecting harry, but it wasn't protecting the horcrux.
You forgot about Harry using expelliarmus vs avada kedavra in the goblet of fire, during his confrontation with Voldemort
How can it move to draco when he disarmed Dumbledore without a fight or anything?
It's a good way to get full allegiance to a wand
I think that Voldemort’s powers were ebbing away and Harry was able to use all his strength to stop him. Voldemort just died because he corrupted his own soul and body.
Bullshit
I don’t think that wrestling a wand off someone like Harry did to Malfoy or having someone disarm you should remove your wands loyalty, I think killing should but the others not.
It already is like that
But what about in Goblet of Fire, in the graveyard? Harry casted Expelliarmus on Voldemort, the same time he casted Avada Kedavra on Harry, and the same thing ended up happening. The two spells collided, and Voldemort didn’t have the Elder Wand at this point. He only gets the Elder Wand at the end of The Half Blood Prince, when Dumbledore dies. So did the spells only collide in GOF because the wands they had were brothers?
