I don’t think this guy could have gave less of a fuck about this pod lol
Seemed to just ponder a little longer than we're used to on the questions. Got to remember he's Canadian too, eh? Perhaps it's just his personality. Tons of variables that play into it. Or maybe I'm just a hopeless positive person haha
As a Canadian, it's just cuz he's Canadian 😂
This guy is awful. Matt did his best, but man what a dud.
This guy doesn't seem to be a car guy, more like a money and sales guy.
That’s actually why he’s interesting to hear from, and probably the best kind of person to work in the car trade.
Also once prices get into seven figures I start to glaze over a bit too… imagine if that was your daily life.
aren't they talking about a market?
I don't feel any enthusiasm. He acts like he would rather be somewhere else. @@chadbarbaro
I agree, you can be business oriented AND passionate
He clearly knows his cars, but it's just frustrating that he gave nothing about working in his field or the market in general. Kinda circled round all the questions Matt asked
Super tough watch, Matt did a great job but this guest is sucking the life out of this session.
Given this dude agreed to come on this podcast, he presents as *really* apathetic
Easily one of the worst TST pods and no fault to Matt/Zach. Dude works an amazing job and makes it sound boring asf.
Long time listener, rare commenter. I listen to the podcast on my drives rather than watch on youtube. I have to say, I listened to this whole episode but the guest was definitely a dud. He didn't seem to want to engage at all. Matt did a supreme job moving the conversation along. I think the topic is super interesting, but past guests like McKeel Hagerty or Serio were much better.
My favorite part about this was Matt’s constant attempts to reanimate this chap like a scene from Pet Cemetery.
Made it through the episode but that was a rough watch. Matt deserves extra praise for the constant effort in this one
Well I learnt almost nothing about market trends from this guy. Why even turn up if you’re gonna offer nothing.
Yeah this could have been a banger of a podcast, but it was so underwhelming. Kudos to Matt for trying
I was really excited about this show, even though I’m definitely not the RM auctions target demo. But man, did Gord seem supremely uninterested. I kept trying to figure out if he just naturally had a restricted affect or if he just didn’t give a crap. I think the slight delay in the connection just made matters worse.
Love the Podcast, but did Gord even want to be there. Seems like he was more interested in something else
This guest was the embodiment of indifference. First show that fell short of expectations
Love you, Matt. I gave up on Gord Duff. What a passionless “enthusiast.”
He’s super low energy
"You know" x1000, so much that Matt started doing it
Great show guys. RM is about an hour from my house… no one under the age of 50 knows these guys are one of the biggest players in Classic car restoration and sales in the world :)
I grew up in Kingsville. So random to hear of Chatham Ontario on the podcast!
Same here. I live 40 minutes north of RM. Their summertime Cars & Coffee are legendary. Matt & Zach should definitely pencil this place in!
When a consultant tells you; " you need to follow the money"...
Matt was trying so hard to engage with this dude, and all he could respond with is the same response on loop 🤣
Matt, I shot and attended Retromobile in 2023… it IS a must! Not able to attend in 2024 but see you again at Pebble and MCW.
Interesting subject, soporific subject matter expert
These guys are so correct on 348s and 355s. Even though 355 is much more car. F355 is as Matt stated the classic manual Ferrari experience.
The "you know" episode lol
Really nice listen. Easy breezy car market talk.
What colour is your Bugatti?
Dunno what people are complaining about. Enjoyed this.
Some people just have a mellow demeanor. That could be him excited. I enjoyed the conversation.
The snobbery is high with this one. Gord Dud. I’ll watch this one for you Matt / Zack
I think the brass era car market will die eventually, most my wealthy friends hitting 40 have absolutely no interest in 70s cars let alone steam cars. When all the Jay Lenos disapear i think the prices are gonna dump hard. I hope to see a " Donk Duesenberg " with spinners oneday.
I'm sorry, I could only listen 40min of this 😂.
I love you Matt
Pre-Fiat Lancias are undervalued for how technically innovative and well built they are. Early 60s Lancia Flaminia Zagato, for example, goes for a fraction of what something from the same era with a Prancing Horse on it would go for. World's first production V6, transaxle, superb build quality...
i counted at least 5 million "you know" in this episode lol
Matt getting excited about a Ferrari spider like his Ferrari hasnt cost 90k in repairs.
Glad Im not the only one who felt this was kind of a dud...
Was very excited to listen to this and jot down some notes and learn fron an "insider"....
I guess I spent an hour to learn that RM does have an amazing restoration program...which I learned in first few minutes..
For an insider who has been in the business for a quarter of a century, he didnt seem to actually know much about cars...kept hearing "i don't know" or "im not very familiar" with any specifics matt tried to get into
love the Lexus LFA's
I guess Matt's listeners are too 'poor' for this guy to care. Not sure why he even showed up.
Agree on the XJ220
🧑🏾💻👍🏾im here
With advent of modern CAD and CFD tools and with relative "ease" of working with carbon it is much easier and profitable to build 100 of 5M 1400Hp hyperarcs sold to same 1000 dudes over and over as you don't have to take the mass production and distribution into consideration and you are almost certain they will be sold. Building relatively affordable relatively fun and incredibly durable mass market car for 50K is incredibly difficult and costly and market is not that big for them. I am really sad that I most probably would never be able to afford them, but as nice road bike cost as much as used Cayman I had to chose my poison :D
great show
As a viewer I feel Matt and Zack should just be themselves and do their thing. Whenever the analysts are giving advice I feel your core demo of enthusiasts dont like it. Atleast I dont, maybe im alone in this.
It would seem that the brass era cars will be less than they are at pebble and other events. The Bugatti and Pagani’s etc will be the “big” classes. They will win “best of show”. Something like an S650 Honda might squeak in an occasional win. 20 years from now the “boomers” will just be yelling at UA-cam about the content. Then ask Alexa to show them pebble beach from 1993
Most Boomers will be dead in 20 years, the tail end will be in their late 70's and early 80s. It will be interesting to see how the classic car market will fairs once the Bulk of Boomers are gone.
plenty of shitty, boring gen xers to fill the gap. white America is just that.
Watching this guy's facial expressions on the video, maybe I was hard on him. May just be his personality. He's probably had to deal with alot of BS over the years in this business so he's probably hardened. I enjoyed his answers from Matt's fans.
The market will go up with the stock markets and crypto. It is that simple. It just lags those two markets.
And those two makers are going to go up for the next year and a half or so. Then they crash and a lagging car market crash follows..
Well this was fucking rough
God this guy is boring. I mean he's better than Tommy F yeah, and the Nodis[sic] watch guys. I made it 48 minutes in before I bailed. I know y'all don't read the comments, but I miss people like Sam Smith, Camissa, Musto, CJH, Elana Sherr, et. al.
Nodis watch episode was 100x more interesting than this episode and I'm not a watch person. At least there was some cool start up stories there.
This guy was absolutely worse than the Nodus crew… At minimum they seemed like they wanted to be there and have a conversation.
Ooof...this is guest..."I don't know, it depends, we're doing pretty well..." sorry, I'm out...check you on the next crew show.
this podcast is getting better but this was painful. guest seemed clueless. and there being over 1000 f40s is irrelevant as it's about supply and demand and f40 is always going to be the most sought after modern car by miles.
I believe the McLaren F1 would like to have a word with you.
F 40 at auction, around $4 million. Not bad.
McLaren F1 at auction, a little over $20 million. Better.
Not sure why you believe you have more expertise on the high end car market than the head of RM auctions. This dude’s job is literally selling the most expensive cars in the world. I think he’s a lousy guest (no energy at all) but he clearly knows what he is talking about. And yes, the production numbers absolutely matter. The F40 would be worth quite a bit more if only 350 were made.
@@williamgechtman9287 It actually make sense if you consider they build around 10 time as much F40's as they build F1's... which makes F40's twice as valuable as a whole market...
there are 60 odd f1s. if there were 60 odd f40s they would be worth way more than the f1. like i said supply and demand work on your reading and maths @@williamgechtman9287
@@ethank7497 I watched him being absolutely clueless for an hour thats why. Matt knew more than him and ended up ansering his own questions. To be head of an auction company you dont need to know values you just need to manage the company and auction organisation. that seems to be all this guy knows. He couldnt remember results that matt remembered.
Last time I saw someone this apathetic was right before my girlfriend broke up with me
Sorry guys paddle shifters are back
Great white noise to fall asleep to. Terrible guest. Kudos to Matt for attempting to keep it interesting. Had I been the interviewer I would have run out things to pull out of him at the 10-minute mark.
Guess who skips your ads ever since you started getting political? Probably more than just me.
Boring…… Matt carrying this interview
This guy says y'know far too often.
*promosm*
Does this guy even like cars?
eat the rich
Zach looks so tasty tho
Just a total snob….
That dude is a little dry.
Oh. A Canadian, still living in Canada. Just started but already know this is going to be a 'smug ignorant milk toast' show.
Farah only likes Canada, because he has never had to live in Canuckistan. Any Canadian with money that actually chooses to live in Canada, look at them shifty.
Signed, an EX-Canadian.
This podcast is making me hate cars. All this talk of money just seems so crass and repugnant.
you probably just hate yourself.
@chadbarbaro You're absolutely right. If only I had more self-esteem, there wouldn't be so many homeless people living in tents and fewer asshole billionaires with warehouses full of ridiculous cars.
so by that logic, if you weren't so helpless you would change the world for your perceived just? that's a delusion.
@@chadbarbaro I spent today helping a friend with lung cancer get treatment. What are you doing to make the world a better place?
I'm not telling the world that's its wrong to create wealth and prosperity.
This guy sucks, he clearly doesn’t want to be there. Doesn’t reflect well on the business.
For quality reasons this video should not have been published. That guy was awful.
The guy is Canadian. 👎
This guy looks miserable to be on the podcast
