    Don’t get rid of the old box, connect them together. Eventually you will fill them up. It always happens. Recommended note: In the aircraft industry, we use foam pads and cut out silhouette of the tools. It makes it nice and neat, the tools are locked in place so they cannot roll around, and if one is missing you can easily see what is missing.

    Don't lose the old toolbox. As time goes on and you acquire more new tools, you will find that the space you need for those tools doesn't exist in the new tool box. The old toolbox will come in handy for extra space in that situation. I like how you arrange your tools.

    Awesome tool chest. I have a huge 5 foot wide, 6 foot tall double-decker that I used when I was working as a mechanic. Now since I retired I have pretty much been throwing tools into the drawers. I need to go through and organize mine.. I have a drawer full of sockets all the way from 1/4 to 1 inch. Hard to find a specific wrench when the whole drawer is filled with wrenches. That old chest will work to put stuff that won't fit or you need to keep separate. Another suggestion, labels. Label each drawer so you can quickly go to the right one.

    Doris--It appears that you already have drawer liners in your toolbox, which is great. Keep your tools in the carriers provided at purchase, or buy wrench/plier/screwdriver racks. I don't care much for socket rails (they're flimsy and tip over), so I buy plastic socket trays to store and transport them as needed. This prevents them from sliding around and maintains your tool organization at a reasonable cost. All or most of these items can be purchased on Amazon or at auto parts stores. A few drops of oil on the drawer slides and/or bearings insures they open and close easily. The "converters" you mentioned at around 7:20 on the video are more commonly known as adapters. For instance, you can use adapters on a 3/8"-drive ratchet to also handle 1/4"-drive sockets, as well as 1/2"-drive sockets. I'm not gonna tell you what tools belong in what drawer; everyone needs to figure that out for themselves. You usually end up putting the most-frequently-used tools in the top couple of drawers, and lesser-used items below those. Other than that, you're doing fine, so have fun.

    Congrats on the new tool chest.
    You did a great job of organizing.
    Tools accumulate: start looking at tool chest organization ideas, you’ll outgrow it soon. Before you know it, you’ll be standing wrenches and pliers on end and other stuff like that.
    My daughter is building her tool collection, she’s been helping me in the garage since she was a tot, and is starting to drive; so it’s now more of a priority for her to start her own collection.
    Keep up the good work, it’s nice to have a positive role model for young ladies to look to.

    Very nice. I was going to suggest going to a local mechanic and asking to see how they lay out their boxes. Since they do it on the daily, and may put stuff such that most used is higher, etc. But alas, you have a system. Fine tune over time. Very nice start to a well rounded set of tools. You should be able to handle most jobs. I suspect you'll need a few more tools for the engine rebuild. Mag base and a 0-1" dial indicator comes to mind. I like Starrett or Mitutoyo, but not required. I was a machinist for quite a few years so I have a lot of tools for that job.

    Check out the Tekton wrench trays. They come in various sizes, for your various sets. And they store them slanted and overlapping, so you'll shorten up your columns of wrenches. What are your plans for the old box? I was thinking you could make that a pneumatic/power tool cart. Maybe wall mount the chargers, keep them from blocking table space. That would free up a ton of space in the new box for more hand tools! 😁

    I saw you spend a lot of time organizing your wrenches during the change-over to the new tool box. They won't stay that way, though, for long. Every time you open or close the drawer, they scoot or roll around inside. Have you considered buying some wrench racks or using the plastic bags they originally came in? They're also handy when you need to take them from the box over to work on a car.in the garage; it's the same principle as organizing your sockets. Try giving those a shot; I think they'll work out for you. Incidentally, that bottom drawer full of odd tools and battery chargers that you can no longer identify is usually called your junk drawer.

    Go girl... go... you been busy!, nice toolbox, please reseal the cutting board top, it will last way longer... they don't do a very good job on sealing their tops (IMO) maybe flip it to its non-treated side an do a sealer over it... Now you can use your old toolbox as a service cart... use the drawers for parts an the top for a work surface, leave the top drawer for your most used tools to cart around, that way using both daily an your newer box will be in better shape to last you longer or use your older box for storage of older tools.. You need a flex head wracthiting set, I love mine and I use mine a lot, eBay sales cheap ones or you can buy a small set to start off, like gearwrench, there's no offset for the head so you can change the angle ..making them easier to get into those hard to reach areas, that have a hard angles, that a regular wratchetwrench won't angle at.. Just a thought.... Thank you for sharing the news on the other cars an the sweet new tool box.. (edit) : Oh, sorry to ask but does your peg-board seam a bit weak once you start loading weight on it, if it does... Theirs posts that you could run along the back of your box to make it stronger an support more weight if it seams to weak?

    WOOOOWWW!!! That is a nice tool box....great upgrade. I too like to be organized and it expedites the need to find the correct tool when you have to complete any job, in this case, your auto upgrades. I’m extremely interested on your GT350 motor fix.

    You should Mount the chargers either on the pegboard or on another board which you could secure to your new toolbox. This way you could have them powered up and charging whenever necessary.

    Idk how your battery charger hold the battery but I have my Milwaukee chargers mounted to the side of my cabinet with 3/4” self pierceing screws and they’re out of the way and always easy to pop them on and off. Got the idea from the super expensive Milwaukee toolbox that has the mounting already for the chargers. I love it like that 👍🏻

  • @lynyrd583
    @lynyrd583 4 роки тому

    Nice set up - one big suggestion - move your Chargers to the top shelf and plug them in so that you always have full batteries and easy access next to the actual cordless tools that they go in...

    I like the new toolbox. Do you have a cabinet where you put the fluids (ie, brake fluid, trans fluid, oil, etc). Might be helpful in the event you need to access them quickly. I think that might be something to put inside the large empty cabinet, but you got a heat gun there, which makes me think twice.

      Thanks! Yes, I have a completely different cabinet with fluids. It was against the wall. There is also another cabinet with detail solutions and equipment.

    Look in to Tekton socket holders I use a couple that I cut in half and have one for my 3/8 extensions and adapter and one for the 1/4 drive and use them also for my sockets

    Awesome Doris great job I love the new box . You could put the chargers on the peg board with a shelf that would open that draw and if I was you I would get a piece of stainless plate an put it on the either side top your box for the vice then mount your vice on it so it would be rigid and so your not damaging the wood surface. Don’t forget too countersink the fasteners into the stainless. Anyways great job Doris 👍🏻

      Nice! Glad we both love it. As for the cordless ratchets..life and time savers. It really should have been one of the first tools to get when I starting making videos. I have two..just because I don't want to wait for one to charge lol. It's worth it.

    Get long enough bolts to put it on the engine stand. The length will depend on the engine stand you have. You’ll have the engine in the air and now way to bolt it to the engine stand. Happened to me plenty of times.

    • @woman.driven
      @woman.driven  4 роки тому

      That's a very good idea. I will go ahead and check. The stand comes with bolts, but you're right. It make not be long enough. Thanks for the tip!
