I would say, seed starting videos are my go to videos to watch.
Coment: Yarrow does not need the “paper towel, freezer” process. I started 200 seeds back in September to overwinter in zone 9b it was hot, they didn’t care though, every single one germinate, multiple varieties all performed the same and even trough winter for my succession sow of yarrow, they don’t mind, some seeds like “sea holy, liatris, and lavender “ they can benefit from stratification. Well I thought I’ll share

My petunias are up!🎉. They are such small seed even the pelleted seed. Just press them on top of soil, keep moist and domed. I used heat mat at 75*F. They are sharing a flat with celery and both are slow to germinate. Planted on January 30th and as of today 13 out of 15 are up!! Make sure to take dome off if condensation is heavy and let them breathe. They are Very tiny to start and can easily dampen off. Once up take off dome and heat if used.
It’s always exciting for me to see petunias germinate-get your magnifying glass as they are small😅. The cost of one Wave Petunia plant for 13 is pretty exciting!
Edit: looked back on notes and it was the 30th I planted petunias. They were quick! Everything seems longer with cabin fever😂 Only grew one other time and I didn’t use heat then.

@@SoilandMargaritas because the seed are so small and you only get a few in a pack it real does feel like an accomplishment when they sprout. I’m not sure, but I think I have the final 15th one sprouting. 👏🏼👏🏼They were Sooo tiny I think that is the one I lost track of as there was pieces of debris and I couldn’t tell if it was a seed or not. Now I have to keep the moisture just right as they are so fragile.

For me, the seed starting mix worked really well to keep bacteria and mold down. I prefer it for seeds that take longer(8-10 wks), that I'll be starting indoors. I've also used diluted fertilizer to add nutrients to the seed starting mix as well. But for faster growing items, or if I start them outdoors with better ventilation, I'll just use regular potting soil. Your videos make me excited for spring!🙂🪻🌷

I ordered Red Velour Wave Petunias, after seeing yours and came back to watch your video, because I HOPE to get the same result! :) You're the best! I live in 8b-9 FL, and am starting Jan 3rd, because I think it will warm up pretty fast, and some of my old petunias are coming back, which they did last year, also! They're in mixed purple shades, and I love them, but those red velour melted my heart, in your yard. On the side of my house (I'm a corner house and that side is also street facing) they would be beautiful with the yellow, orange and red plants I already have there. Thanks for this video and the one showing them in bloom.

I really appreciate your process, and explanations, but mostly how you use your plants in the end, which feels unique compared to the other gardening/homesteading UA-camrs I am also addicted to. I feel like the way you use your plants is the quality and structure for home garden tours. I learn a lot from the way you design your garden.

You could always place seeds on damp paper towel, spacing them a touch, do your whole freezer, light thing, then when they germinate just place the paper towel in your soil. Use the wider containers, or cut to fit smaller ones.

No wonder your soil is so soft and fluffy you sift it how interesting I think I am going to have to go to the dollar store and look for some thing similar. I bought a bag of soil and oh goodness the wood chips in that bag was too much for me to bear but I had to use it because I had no choice. I will be sifting from now on great idea. This was wonderful again.

I am finally getting to my seed starting too. I usually start before now. You will love growing the wave petunias, I love them and they are so prolific. I lined all my paths in my cottage garden with them and they were such troopers, even came through some late freezes. Have you tried the 'not hot' jalapenos? Or the habaneros? I struggled to get them germinated. I like the heat but my husband's stomach can't handle them so having the ones that are not hot are great. I got them from Baker Creek as well.
