    You couldn’t have chosen a better way to make the case for potting up. The differences are striking. Thanks for sharing this important step in the process!

    You gave us great perspective. And I’m convinced. I have been waiting until I see things struggling. Actually it usually happens rapidly. Like when I spend the whole day in the garden. Or while I’m at work. I see my need to be more proactive. I have potted up five or six things. And need to do feverfew and yarrow. While starting more seedlings. We gardeners are very blessed. You have a great channel and I’m subscribing 🌸🌿

    Great advice as always! Your seedlings are so healthy. I lost several of my “babies” when I went out of town for an extended Easter break. My house got too hot and sunny and some of my beautiful little cosmos and kale plants dried out and died. So upsetting that I have to start over. I think they would have survived if I had potted them on before I went away.

    Great video! Thank you for sharing! I have been also watching your videos on winter sowing. This will be the first year for me. My plan is to use the system that you use with a clear storage box and 2.5" seed starting pots. My question is: Will I have to pot up my seedlings for winter sowing or will they be ok in the 2.5" pots? I plan to have vegetable and flower seeds.

      Hey! I think that potting up is going to depend how big your seedlings get and how much time you still have before you have to get them in the ground, many people just thin the heck out of them, and others just divide and pot up, I would say see how you do with them and tweak your technique for the following year.

    I still have 7 weeks before planting warm lovers outside but I have plenty of potting up to keep me busy. The fungus gnats are an issue for sure. I usually have my big problems with them in February but this year they are starting to show up now. I got in a hurry and didn't treat a bag of potting soil that was very damp so I knew it probably was full of fungus gnats and eggs, so my bad. Your petunias are doing fabulous. My petunias just got potted up earlier this week but they have really made a leap in growth in just a few days. My delphiniums too. Loved that you saved some back to show a comparison, it really gets the message across!

      @SoilandMargaritas  Рік тому +1

      I know what you mean friend, I am always just worry that whatever new bags of potting mix I get will be full of the eggs, I haven't seen any quite yet so this year I am doing better than most with fungus gnats.

    I’m in zone 5b as well, I got a late start on my tomatoes & peppers, started them about a week and a half ago.. so far they are doing great.. no true leaves yet. I’m worried i started too late.
    Any advice? ❤ thank you so much!

    • @SoilandMargaritas
      @SoilandMargaritas  Рік тому +1

      You are fine, the peppers might be super late to produce because they take their sweet time, if I was you I would still plant the peppers but maybe grab a couple from the store just in case. The tomatoes will be just fine.

    So I started the whole soil blocking thing this year, and I love it. I think I'm going to be a flower farmer. Not!😅 Really, I just want a jungle of beautiful flowers in my yard this year. My issue is that I've literally got over 1000 plants in trays. They were started March 17th and 20th.Ive got snaps, scabiosa, feverfew, chamomile, coneflower, bells of Ireland, the list is long my friend so I won't carry on.😅 Everything looks great. However, now I've noticed the bottom leaves (not true leaves) on some are turning a bit yellow. Most are getting their 2nd true leaves. I think it's time to fertilize bc when I see others like flower farmers I follow, theirs are huge. Mine are still so tiny. I know I started mine a bit late as many start in late January and February. I'm terrified I'm going to fry my babies. I know the dose needs to be 1/4 strength, but I'm still terrified. I'd cry if I had to start them all over.😢 I'm going to hope for the best and try a few trays tomorrow and see how it goes. I've heard horror stories about fungas gnats, and I'm looking with a magnifying glass all day every day.😅 I got lucky until last week. I actually saw one flying around my babies and smashed it. So a good week went by, and I found another huge one trying to land on them yesterday. Managed to sqirt it down to the floor with my water pump and smash it. I put my fan on a higher speed since last night. I couldn't imagine having more than one of those buzzers on my plants.😊 I have the yellow sticky traps just in case, but I hope to never use them. I've also heard they actually attract to them, so I'm a bit weary. I'm now starting my veggies and warm flowers tomorrow. I honestly don't know where I'm going to put everything as I'm running out of room. Most of what I have now are cool flowers and perennials that can hopefully go out in a few weeks. They just need to get bigger, and hopefully, fertilizer will do that. I can't imagine having to pot up all of these flowers. It's my first time around with all of this, so I'm trying to have fun and not get stressed out. I'm just seeing what works in my garden and what colors I really love. So it's all really trial and error. Thank you for sharing. Sorry for the long chat.😊

    • @SoilandMargaritas
      @SoilandMargaritas  Рік тому

      It can get addicting! You star a few and next thing you know you have trays and trays full of seedlings! I definitely would fertilize VERY little, don't over saturate them either, just a bit of a drink of it. Good luck!

    Wow! What a difference! I had no idea! I have poppies, cosmos and zinnias that are needing to be up potted, but I think they can go out soon--like within the week, maybe even tomorrow--but it's calling for thunderstorms. Ye, it’s necessary 😅. My hands are burnt from sun trying to get things potted today and yesterday. Ugh! It’s too hot too early.
    One way to know petunias need potted up is they start blooming. All the 2” pots needed potted and solo cups are just a smidge to small so I gave up on that and went on to propagation tray.
    I still need to go out to uncover stuff, just waiting for that flipping hot 🥵 sun to go down.
    I think I killed some garlic as I used hay to cover. I didn’t have anything else and tried to put on lightly. I definitely think I planted too soon last fall.
    I had aphids this year for first time and found 3 lady bugs in the house and they did a great job.
    Oh, if you want to make more petunias I seen video and it’s really easy from cuttings 😊
    Get ready for the cool blast on Sunday.

    I started my seeds late, but we have had very high temperatures here for the last few days in zone 6B in Pennsylvania. It was 87 degrees today,which has sent my seedlings into overdrive. Started my zinnias last week and they have already broken ground. My last frost date is April 21 and I usual put my plants in the ground around Mother’s Day. So as long as we don’t get a cold spell, i will be potting them up maybe in the next two weeks.
