You know it’s serious when Tungaloy actually uses coolant
That's right! This was tough!
I hope you’re wearing a respirator. Carbide dust is no joke even with ample coolant.
Thank you for your valuable opinion.
It is probably in an enclosed machine, they do a lot of cnc stuff this from the looks of it so it should be find
Plus it's got plenty of coolant. There is no dust.
Check out the shop safety guy over here lmao
@@Dillybar777just about to say that got the shop safety dude in the corner screaming shit about PPE and ISO9001😭
Fun fact, if you throw one of those small tips at a tempered glass window it will shatter and there will be a loud blast sound..
Thank you for your comment!
How did you find out💀
@@FLO1301 i work in a CNC plant, a buddy of mine was sleeping at a desk behind a big glass window, I threw one to scare him awake.. it shattered the glass and sounded like a shotgun went off.. I ducked behind a corner and was never seen. I came clean a few months later🤣😅
@@jaywade6443 god damn😅
At least you know the tip was sharp! 😂
Every time i have to turn tungsten carbide in a lathe i am still supprised that anything can be strong enough to make a scratch on that material. I don't use tungaloy very often. But all of the times i did use tungaloy products i was very satisfied with the results
Thank you for using our product!
@@macarenomoranasthe hardness is indeed an issue, as you need an even harder tool like diamond to cut it. But yes, it's also very brittle.
@@thorwaldjohanson2526

This sounds like ai generated nonsense
The trick is that the tail of the drillbit being turned is not carbide, but steel.
The shank of the solit drill is made of cemented carbide.
But the footage looks like the working (cutting) part is carbide, and the tail BEEING CUT is steel
@@TungaloyCorporation The very last second of footage shows steel-white material.. dont look carbide at all
@@myworkshoptv Yes, it looks white depending on the lighting, but it is definitely a cemented carbide shank.
Magnificent!!
Thank you for liking it!
This is the equivalent of hammering a hammer into a piece of wood with another hammer. "WE DO IT BECAUSE NATURE TOLD US NOT TO!"
Thank you for your valuable opinion.
Nice finish... Cant see it in action with all that coolant.
With those two materials you are gonna need that coolant🫠
Whenever they don't use coolant they get ripped on by armchair experts saying "YOU BURNED UP THE INSERT DUMBASS, USE COOLANT"
We tried it dry, but it chipped in the process. After all, cemented carbide is hard.
We, Tungaloy, were the first in Asia to develop that cemented carbide!
What kind of tool life do you get? Can't imagine the pressure right on that point. And that drill is something on its own...
This is a diamond insert, processed from a solid carbide part.
That thing whistled like crazy. 😵💫
Thank you for your comment!
Yes......finally coolant. 😂
Thank you for your comment!
Wait a minute! The new drill bit you took out of the tube was black but, the bit you machined was not. Not the same bit.
The color changes depending on the amount of light and oil,
The inserts are identical!
Yea, thats not the same bit, i have used plenty of these bits,
Never use coolant doing this, thermal shock will destroy the tool tip….😂
This machine is made of cemented carbide, so coolant is required. I processed it dry, but the quality of the machined surface was poor and the life of the insert was very short.
Please send description...
I think you should add some coolant!
As you say! I reduced the amount a little to make it easier to see the processing!

We used to turn Carbide to make extrusion dies on a Precision Hardinge manual lathe,( not CNC) and we cut our diamond in two, creating two inserts from every original insert...lol..save $$$, using a wire EDM...than braze/silver solder the inserts on a bbar..and voila', but never used coolant. We used low rpm and feeds.. Like cutting glass!

Are you a machinist?
@carpediem2674 lol..yeah..
Epic machining, respect!!

That's not diamond that's boron. And no, they're not the same. Boron is actually higher carbon which gives it the black hue. Diamonds are clear/blue in all my inserts unless you guys use some weird lab grown crap.
This video is awesome!

The pcd tip looks chipped after the one pass.
Probably from using coolant
If you wait a few more seconds the video restarts and then the insert is good again.
It also looked chipped to me

Although it depends on what is being processed, coolant is essential when cutting carbide this time.

I found personally cutting dry worked better.
We think it depends on the workpiece material.
We recommend changing the machining method depending on the situation, such as wet machining when machining cemented carbide like this time, and dry machining when machining aluminum.
Why would you do that to the shank?
Check it out as a demonstration of cutting hard materials like cemented carbide!

Couldn't adjust the water for filming? Thanks for nothing
We basically process the images dry so that the viewers can see the processing as much as possible. This time as well, I made adjustments to make the machining as visible as possible, but in order to machine cemented carbide, I had to use a good amount of coolant.
