      Oh yes lot of things can be done. Way beyond just making a logo. When I put that flower in the bowl I have never even brought inside it opened up all kinds of options. I had just let it sit and dry and warp. It was one I turned thin and forgot all about.

    Well Gary, I got my lazerpecker today and man I had trouble creating that darned account! Please tell me you had to get help getting started! I'm not tech savvy and just about lost my mind getting started. Thank God my beautiful bride was close by! Long story short I've burned the deer and a picture of my grandson. I got cut off for all the smoke in the house so I'll have to try the roller out in my shop. Well worth the money as far as I'm concerned!! You and Phil Anderson had one so I just had to have one of my very own! Yall are great salesmen !

    Wow thanks so much. I see lots of people talk about and show layers but I haven't actually seen someone just take it and try it the way that you did. You just answered all of the questions that I might of had but couldn't get answers to from looking at a website or manual (or other youtube videos). I am actually considering this product right now. I might want a higher resolution but you completely demonstrated its all in one capabilities and ease of use. You are so down to earth and straight foward that you leave no room for doubt in your demonstration. I know you said that they weren't giving you a promotion but they should because I'm sold. Even if I was looking for a higher resolution I would still start with this one and keep using it forever. What a fantastic tool to have in a belt. The way you show it making cards and gifts in such a beautiful way is really inspiring. I can't wait to get one. But please don't think I'm going to go lazering everything. I like to keep it real and am inspired by the nature and honesty in the seeing the hand to wood contact. The Lazer wouldn't be for everything but it could really expand capabilities especially for someone trying to make a real marketable business out of thier craft. I know you aren't pushing hard for that market but that is probably the reason why you were able to come up with the video that no one else could. Was enjoyable to watch and obviously effective since I just added it to my Xmas list.

    • @ThePapa1947
      @ThePapa1947  2 роки тому

      Thank you very much Nicole. I really enjoyed showing it and most everything you saw was the first time I had done it. I have not played with it but it has 3 levels of resolution. I have only used the lower one. I am guessing it will take more time for the higher resolution. I will check that out today on some photos to do as gifts.
      I could think of many things it could be used to market your craft for sure.
      I could sponsor different things but sharing the love for the things I do is what I enjoy.
      Best of luck with your Christmas list. Sounds like it is something you would make work for you.
      Take care,
      Gary

    Your demonstration and review of this laser machine was great to watch. It is very versatile. Most laser machine operate flat on a bed. I am not a computer kind of guy so I could maybe use the designs that comes with the machine but I would want to use my own designs. That is where I might have trouble. That was a great demo and good to see you having so much fun. I've seen a few other people testing this out, but yours was much more thorough and more effectively showed the range of capabilities this thing has. I've been thinking about a 3D printer or an engraver/burner like this. Besides the endless pit of other costs for 3D printer media and accessories, I think an engraver would work more in line with my much bigger passion of turning. Well shown, Gary!

    • @ThePapa1947
      @ThePapa1947  2 роки тому

      Thank you Jay. I think a 3D printer would be cool as well. But I like the techie stuff. Having 2 CNC mills makes me familiar with the rapid prototype and the lasers that run XY paths. So would be easy to learn.
      This laser is so fast because of the mirror system it uses. Mine is running a photo right now that will be a gift. It is looking fantastic.
      Thanks for watching,
      Gary

    • @MarklTucson
      @MarklTucson 2 роки тому +1

      Jay, 3D printers are really good for making templates, jigs, prototypes, and other supporting tools for various turning and woodworking projects, but if you are looking for something that can produce results that are much more refined and elegant looking, the laser engraver is definitely more suited for that kind of application. I have both and am just getting up to speed on using the laser; they both have valuable applications, but the laser definitely produces much more refined results that require very little post-processing.

    • @jayscott306
      @jayscott306 2 роки тому +1

      @@MarklTucson Thank you very much for the helpful reply! Given that I only do wood turning, many jigs and prototypes aren't too necessary for me. That, and with my hands being paralyzed, I'm very good at what I do, but struggle a lot with certain dexterity intensive, or unfamiliar, tasks I'm not terribly fast or proficient.
      All that to say that an engraver seems more and more what I am interested in. Probably want a CBN, first. Slipped off the wheel just an hour ago and had a catch... on aluminum oxide. Still a bit shaken, nothing hurt or damaged, except for the chipped wheel. Kind of a lucky accident. I got sidetracked. Thank you, again, for the useful information, Mark.

    Nice demo Gary. The galvo system of the Laserpecker has some interesting features and unique applications. It's interesting seeing how you are exploring its use. I just got my Xtool laser system a little over 2 weeks ago and am having a great time exploring its capabilities. It is definitely another rabbit hole; there are just so many things you can do. Each of the technologies has its advantages -- with the flatbed system, I don't see a way to be able to engrave the inside bottom of a bowl the way you were able to do with the Laserpecker system. However, the flatbed systems are much more capable of dealing with larger format engraving and can also cut wood. My intended applications for turning are to sign the bottom of pieces and also be able to embellish the outside of round objects, so the Xtool will support that. There is now no longer anything that can be defined as "scrap" plywood in my shop -- all of those little pieces of plywood from years worth of projects and that were only being used as backer boards for the drill press or other sacrificial purposes are now material for laser projects. I'm in the process of making a holder for my collet chuck system and am exploring various laser cut box approaches for that application. Like all new tools, this is going to take some time to become proficient.

    • @ThePapa1947
      @ThePapa1947  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you Mark. You are right both systems have a place where they are best at. Having 2 CNC milling machines there is hardly anything I can not do. I also built 4th axis for them and projects are lining up LOL. I do like to do 3D carvings with them and milling is the way to get the 3D.
      Sounds like you are having lots of fun and good thing you saved those scraps. I have done the same.

      @@marvincler9685 i don't know how this particular laser works. but for our laser, we can just engrave anything (our skills are the limit xD). we first make a design in a drawing program (we use CorelDraw, that's not free to use tho), then we save the file as PDF (and the colors in RGB, because that's what our laser "understands"). and then it engraves.
      and ya, you can pretty much use any fonts that your computer has.
      if you're interested in lasercutting/engraving i would recommend a nice (and helpful) UA-camr called "Doug Green" (the channel has the same name). he answered questions i had about a couple of things in the comments or via email. and he does pretty neat videos pretty frequently.
      my suspicion is, that you can engrave a file with your engraver too, but you'd have to get it on your app somehow xD since i don't know how the software works,i can't help you with the details, but i would be surprised if you couldn't use a PDF file to engrave.(or an .svg file. that's a vector graphic fileformat)

    Great video Gary. I'm very interested in this and will go to their website. I do have a few questions. Is the software included with the unit? Is it only phone based or can you use a laptop? Do you know if it can burn an image on resin? Since so many turners use resin (me too) I think it would be something to try.

    • @ThePapa1947
      @ThePapa1947  2 роки тому

      Thank you Larry. The app is something you download and you could do that without the machine and play around with it up to the point of preview which shows you where the laser is at on your piece.
      There is software for a PC but I would think it would need Bluetooth which mine does not so I might load it on my laptop and see how it works.
      I see no reason it would not work on resin as it does on plastics of all sorts. It does say that it does not work well with shiny material.
      And I see where you can paint over the shine and then wipe it all off.
      I do have a resin blank I could try it on.
      Thanks for watching,
      Gary

    Really fun watching. I have been looking for a method to sign my projects, and been considering to have a branding iron with my signature. When i saw your vid i started thinking maby this laser is suitable for signing my projects. Have you tried how small you can make letters, and still readable? I turn a lot of 4-5 inch christmastrees and if its suitable for so small projects..regards Robin

    • @ThePapa1947
      @ThePapa1947  Рік тому

      Thank you Robin. It will engrave and be clear with very small letters.. I believe the beam size is .05 mm which is about .002"
      I think depending on which font you choose you could do a 1/8" tall letter easily. A lot of it is the right settings. If you use too much power.
      Most likely you would not do anything that small but it should work very good. As with anything testing different settings on different wood is important.
      Now you have me wanting to see how small I can do. But I have not a lot with 1/4" high fonts.

    I don't want to take away from your turning talent and your creativity but I really enjoyed this video! What a great little machine! I have a question. Don't you have a CNC router? I realize the 2 are different but some of the things you showed could be done with a CNC. What are your thoughts between the two? I can see a use for both and I may see one of these in my future. Secondly, do you, or have you, turned pens? My guess is that you probably have. It seems that everyone does at one time or another in their turning "careers". If you get to use the Laserpecker, or get to keep it, for a while, would you consider engraving a pen blank on the rotary bed to see how it performs doing that? Great video!! Thanks Gary!!!

    • @ThePapa1947
      @ThePapa1947  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you very much and trust me wood turning is my true love. But anything that can add to it is ok with me.
      Yes I have 2 CNC milling machines. With them i can do more of a relief carving which has a great feel to it. It is not nearly as fast as this.
      For instance I do one carving that takes around 4 hours or more depending on how large I made it. This laser could do it in 15 minutes is my guess. Will they be the same. No as the other will be a 3D carving.
      Actually I have never made pens. I know a lot get started turning pens but I got my start turning very complex shapes for wood patterns.
      My very first job as an apprentice wood pattern maker was a turning. I still have one of the parts that the pattern was used to make.
      The patterns are made from customer supplied drawings and had to be exact.
      I kind of skipped over the pen part.
      This is my laser to keep and I am sure it would do pens. The trick would be to make something to hold it straight to the laser but I am sure that would be easy enough. Maybe I could turn something with a pen shape and set that up.
      What do you have in mind to engrave on the pen?
      Gary

    I would have to disable all of my smoke alarms in my house before starting this little guy up. LOL!
    It's too bad this is way out of my price range...I'll just stick to my magnifying glass on the patio. ;-D
    All kinds ideas popped into my head on ways to use this machine. A table top or book shelf front come to mind.
    I think the pencil box surface was too close the the laser source. I believe that is why the design wasn't as wide as expected. I'm certain you could rig up a way to overcome that problem. The orange stand seems to be at the proper height.

      It may have been a bit too close but most of the issue was when I played around with the design to make it close up at the ends. I should have went with a pencil sketch opion.
      Next time I will do that.
      Thanks for watching,

    I bought this laser a few months ago, and was wondering if you could engrave something that was not flat, like the inside of a bowl, or not flat wood. Now, I know! I haven't tried it yet, as I have so many projects to catch up on, but want to get to it very soon! Thanks for the great video!

      Thank you Eileen. It did work nice on the inside of a bowl. And there is lots of ways you could set it up to get into tight areas.
      Have fun when you get caught up.

    Thank You Gary.... Quite a useful tool for the shop. Your demonstration was very clear. You make it look like even I (with my peanut brain) could handle it. Gary your demonstration was very complete with lots of examples along with your honest explanations. .... AH ...now Gary could you put your bowl on the lathe running dead slow and have this engraver do it's thing on a turning surface...omg.... probably just producing circular patterns? .....ah....but perhaps turning up the speed.... no, no...Stop messing around Tuffy.... ha................................... Until next time Gary. TM

      Thank you TM and funny you mention turning the lathe at slow speed. It would need to be real slow but I was thinking of some sort of a spiral design. I could set it up on the 4th axis on my CNC machine because I can make it go as slow as waiting on the freeway in work traffic. Glad I don't do that anymore LOL
      Take care,

      Thank you Billy, fun for sure and can be useful. I suspect and new models come out the price will drop like a lot of things. But if you are like me you want the NEW THING! Although when I was building computers I always bought the processors that were 3 ways away from the latest and greatest!
      Take care,

    I saw the Celtic knot you did on the one piece, can you do an image on the outside of something - something that does not go all the ay around?

    • @ThePapa1947
      @ThePapa1947  2 роки тому

      Yes you can make it go as far as you want around something.

    Excellent video - much appreciated. Any comment about the cost? Aproximate price in Canada?

      Thank you very much. I would suggest checking the Amazon site and doing the cost for Canada based on that.

    Will it work on pens

      I am sure it would work fine. As long as you can hold it flat to the laser which would be easy enough to do.

    $1,359.99 is a bit too expensive for the pecker.

      @ThePapa1947  2 роки тому

      That might be the list price. I think it sells for a lot less than that.
