For the first time in a long time I have full trust in Canucks GM to make the right moves.
enjoy the upcoming Canuck exodus! Lindholm, Zadorov, meyers, etc... they will all drop like flies due to salary cap restrictions (caused by Greedy Petey and shitty GM desperation decision)
It would be great to see Landeskog back on the ice, I was a little worried that he might have been announcing his retirement in today press conference. Glad that didn’t happen. Hopefully he can be good to go this fall. Go Avs!!!
It would be a shocker if Landeskog makes it back after the type of surgery he had. He may be done, but by denying any retirement plans, he continues to get paid.
Why would he retire and walk away from his money as he has to do nothing and still get paid... (still in total $33,5m for 5 years)
They keep burying him in the LTIR and be done with it
@@EtzoFIN here's an idea... he intends to play again.
@@EtzoFINya he definitely intend to play lol. He will try next season and if it doesn’t work out he retires, but he 100% intends to be back on the ice.
Is your name Joe Sakic?@@BodyofWater_
Switzerland is so stacked this year I wouldn't say it's an upset but definitely cool to see nations other than Canada/USA/Finland/Sweden making it into the medal rounds
Deserving win for Tocchet and no surprise that everyone on the roster wants to stay. Bill Zito is due for GM award....hope he gets it.
Thats another beautiful jersey! Cup patch and all. One of my favorites growing up
Since the canucks changed their style to more defensive play, some players find it difficult to adjust (Patterson, Hronek, Mikheyev). In retrospective, the canucks should have tried the wild open offensive style as they did early in the season in game 6. If it didn’t work, they still have game 7 to figure out.
Landy is Captain and will be Captain until he retires. There's no passing that along. Not gonna happen. And if you watched the full presser, MacFarland intimated Gabe might be back for the start of the season. Gabe himself doesn't want to put a timeline out there, in case he experiences any setbacks - which is fair and his right as it just causes confusion and angst. The entire conversation today around Landy and his recovery was very positive, and I am sure he'll be back. He also mentioned how good he has felt the past two months, and has had no setbacks in that time. Slow and steady now should mean when he's back it'll be for long term. As MacFarland said, Gabe has earned the right to take the time he needs to get back, and I love the Avs front office for providing him the time.
Good luck with that. What's another year without your captain?
@@dmwehrer7094Is what it is. Landy is Captain and will be until he retires. If he retires before the season happens, then it will be passed on. Not until then. Captain is earned. You just don't willy nilly pass it around.
@@soulknife20 you don't let it fester either. When the team wants to move on and win a cup, they pass it along. Now it's just a lame duck.
I think eventually bill zito should win. Is his third consecutive nomination and put florida on the map and all his signings had impact stenlund being great on the pk and stollarz having one of the best gaa and save %. Jim Nill is also up there but he won last year. With Allvin is difficult cause he made trades that worked but most was due to players already on the team
Actually insane bill hasn't won one yet, totally carrying that franchise
@@Nikkerman the tkachuk trade propelled the franchise and most people doubted him, crazy he didn’t win it last season
100% agreed. Those small moves have hit big. His trades have hit big with Tkachuk and Rheinhart. Could throw Sam Bennett as another big move. Bob is doing Bob things again. Zito has done great in South Florida building that team.
I agree Zito should win, but I’d say you’re doing a disservice to Allvin here. The trades he made this year were huge in the playoffs, Zadorov and Lindholm were 2 of the biggest contributors in the postseason, both easily in the top 5 on the team for most valuable in the playoffs.
The main thing I think you’re overlooking isn’t the trades, it’s the signings he made and the general offseason acquisitions. Dakota Joshua is a great example, picked up for nothing and when you refer to “players already on the team” I assume you’d put Joshua under that umbrella. Blueger and Soucy as well, big contributors picked up for little.
I mean obviously I’m biased as a Canucks fan, but Alvin did an incredible job. Suter, blueger, soucy, cole, desmith, hronek, we’re all him, and that’s not even trades made prior to the deadline (zadorov, lindholm). A team going to the second round with so many new players to me makes this a no brainer, but please educate me on the other finalists because I do mainly follow the Canucks. I know the Tanev and tarasenko aquisitions etc. but I’d like to hear more about each gm
When did the Captaincy become an immutable title? Mario Lemieux used to hand the "C" off to Ron Francis any time he took a game off.
I know.
First, I hate any hockey team that takes the ice without a captain.
Second, my team in the 90s had a HOF captain and when he did not play , one of the A's would step into the C role.
Also, I remember my team having an extra rotational "A" given to an unsung player who was having a great run & showing leadership, much like how to the NFL has weekly game day Captains.
i totally agree with you. Mario , SUPER MARIO, would give his C to Ronnie Franchise on games he took off.
When someone Like Gabe comes along that is not replaceable by any measure. Also shows good faith in the club. Gabe is bigger than life here in Colorado I get outsiders might not understand that.
@feinded you don't think Mario Lemeuix is not "bigger than life?" One of the 2 best forwards to ever play the game.
As a long time Avs fan, the franchise since moving to Colorado has had mostly long term captains through its tenure here with three combined years of short term captains. Sakic (13 years), Foote (2 years), Hejduk (1 year), then Gabe (12 years including the past two seasons). Gabe has had the C for all but one single year (which was his rookie year) iirc. The players have also denied any handing off the C until Landy either comes back or retires. MacKinnon himself has on multiple occasions said that he doesn’t want to be a captain at all. From the behavior of the team thus far, nor do any other players that have the A.
Here is a (seemingly) rare case of management, coaches, and the players unanimously agreeing to let Landy keep the C until he makes his decision on a) retire or return and b) who to pass it to.
@@feinded The way that Avs fans overrate Landeskog boggles my mind. They act like he's the second coming of Brendan Shanahan, when in reality he's closer to Tomas Sandstrom. He's never exceeded 34 goals or 75 points in a season!
I just realized this, Mcdavid first NHL goal was in Dallas. Now he got his first conference final goal in Dallas. That’s kinda awesome 👏
To be fair McDavid when pointless or one assist on a couple nights and we still won
Czechs eliminated the US 1-0 and Sweden beat Finland 2-1 in OT. If anyone wondering.
Landy is the Avs captain until he retires, and when that does happen, it won't be MacK that will get it, way too emotional (which I love from him since it drives him), but you need a presence like Landy to keep things in check. Without knowing what happens in the room of course, I would say Makar, but hopefully not something the Avs need to worry about for years down the road
Petersson can play on my team any day.
As someone who’s had Hronek on his fantasy team for the past 3 seasons, a hot first half followed by a slow second half seems to be his standard.
Thanks!
Skinner has a .889 save % and was not tested by Van. What is going to happen when he is tested by Dallas? What it not be better for a goalie who was not tested by a team to have a higher number. If I was a Oiler's fan I would not want a goalie who was not tested to have that low of a number. Otter was tested by the last two teams and he has a .918 save %. This serious going to come down to goaltending and Dallas holds a huge advantage in net.
Whatever makes a dallas fan not afraid of Mcdavid, Drai, and Bouch….
Agreed, that is a matchup to watch. If the Oilers win, I think it will be in higher scoring games like 4-3 etc. They are capable of getting 40 shots to the net, and getting high quality looks that even an elite goalie won't save often. I'm not worried for their ability to score against a great goalie, though to win they will need solid goaltending and D for sure
Save percentage doesn't really mean anything from a small sample size. Vancouver had very few shots, but many of those shots were simply impossible to save or predict, due to defensive errors and lucky bounces and whatnot. Any goalie can face 30+ shots and come away with a great save percentage, as long as the majority of those 30+ shots are not dangerous. And similarly, any goalie will have a horrendous save percentage if they face 15 shots and 7 those are impossible to save.
I see so many people hand wave everything except goaltending away and then say, "series will come down to goaltending."
No, the series will come down to everyone. I dont understand why hockey fans do this, as if the 10 other guys on the ice are the exact same and cancel each other out. Give me a break.
@@Peksisarvinentrue, people ragged on the Canucks low shot totals all year but the system they play has them barely do low danger shots which reduces the shot count and dramatically inflates the shooting % as a result.
Pettersson confirmed he's been playing with a hurt knee since January as well.
To the surprise of no one.
Hope he's healthy come October!
Everyone is hurting this time of year. No excuses.
The Pettersson drama is just getting started. Injury or not his down turn started after the long term deal was signed.
@@timetowakeup6302 Yeah, but he said since January, this is on the team’s medical staff for not resting him for a few weeks.
@@MG-rg3jo His downturn started before he signed the deal by about a month, and he wasnt the one begging to get a deal done.
I remember when Nylander signed his first extension with the Leafs, there was a LOT of talk about him being overpaid and him never living up to his contract. I specifically remember an interaction with a Leafs fan where I told him that you do not sign these contracts for one year or two years, you sign them for 5, 6, 8 or whatever, and therefore, you cannot draw conclusions about how good or bad they are during year or year two either. And I bet a lot of Leafs fans wish they would've signed him for a longer contract at that cap hit right about now.
Congrats Rick!
Doesn’t Myers have a home in Kelowna? Or at least spends the off season here? They should be able to sign him for a good deal

Happy to see that the Avs are sticking with Big Val. Thanks for wearing the Avs jersey Shannon.
Nothing in that presser was convincing that they are “sticking with Val”. Issue at the moment is they aren’t able to terminate his contract and are stuck with him as a $6M+ cap hit whether he plays or doesn’t play. I mean in a perfect world, he’s able to make peace with his demons and comes back and plays great hockey for the Avs. But there is a lot that has to go right for that to happen including a successful recovery and a long road of building trust if he ever wears burgundy again.
Are we not doing NHL Awards anymore?
Great Video as always THG!! Lets Go Thrashers!!!!
Jim Nill was AGM for a couple seasons with Holland.
Allvin for GM of the year IMO!
McD, 2G 19A
Hyman, 11G 2A
I guess the game plan is pretty clear!
That said, it would sure be nice for McD to put the series on his back, and run beast-mode for a while. I'm wondering if that end-of-season injury is going to turn out like Draisaitl's shattered ankle, and Bergeron's cracked rib/punctured lung from a few years back, where it becomes a 'holy crap, he was actually playing at all?!?' situation.
Idk man when it’s one of those kinds of injuries like the examples you gave it’s pretty clear they’re hurt.
While I have no love for the guy, Draisaitl’s an absolute beast in the playoffs and it was readily apparent when he was playing through a brutal injury that year. Same deal with Bergeron. Another case would be Matthew Tkachuk last year, it was obvious he’d taken a hell of an injury and how he was even playing was the main concern.
TLDR the “holy crap” moment is generally the reveal of what the injury was, the extent of it. Not that they were injured.
McDavid’s the best player in the world but despite how he can be on the ice he’s not a superhuman. If he was dealing with a severe injury the likes of which should normally knock someone out of the lineup, we’d know.
@@ajbolt7 - and I would suggest based on the precedent he has shown in playoffs past, it's pretty clear he's not even close to 100%.
Nice jersey 👍
Myers can stay if he can take a discount lol

Record: 43-22-5
For GM of the year, I'd pick Allvin, as like with Rick Tocchet winning the Jack Adams, it's mostly about the turnaround from last season. Allvin brought in players to IMMEDIATELY turn this group around. They went from several more years of bad seasons and drafting high, directly to winning a division title. Not knocking Nill or Zeto, but they already had solid teams that were expected to do well (and both Dallas and Florida have certainly met those expectations at this point).

I have been a big fan of landeskog ever since he entered the league but we have to be honest with ourselves. IF he does comeback what can we realistically expect from him. He is 31, an age where a lot of players enter the backside of their career and start to slow down just a bit. He hasn't played in 2 years which is a HUGE handicap, I just think we need to prepare ourselves for the reality that other than a psychological boost to the avs he probably won't be very good anymore.
It's hard to say, but we've needed someone to stand in front of the net for greasy goals for two years now and it seems like only he and Val can do it.
Go Stars! Win Game 1 like the Mavs did, last night!
Good choice for coach of the year and no brainer.
0 and 1 yerstday 32 and 12 record in the playoff
Chevy in Winnipeg kinda got robbed of atleast being a finalist for GM of the year. Some categories of awards playoff success doesn't seem to matter at all (Veizna, some others) - some matters a bit of then not at all, and then some it matters a ton...
Even just between Jack Adams and GM of the year it's a bit different it seems.
1-0 yesterday, 40-30 overall (I think ) Picks DAL
I'm fine with Meyers returning. I think he redeemed hiself from last year. Seemed to be playing with the bunch well this past year. He's 34 so that last contract was his money contract. I'm sure he'll be fine taking half of what he was for a couple years.
I'm thinking Hronek ends up with Toronto after they make some cap dumps. I have nothing to back this up, just a hunch.
Hronek and a couple of fourth round picks for Marner, Leafs retain 50% and pay for Canucks' meals for a year.
@@TheHockeyGuy Sounds like a fair deal.
with what salary cap
@@TheHockeyGuy Moves like that will get you GM of the year nominations. I like it!
The two picked toasted for Hronek suggest they may keep him on. If he buys the coach and team culture and he gets his slapshot back in form it may be worth it
You didn't mention Petey's knee injury....?
I didn't see that until after filming this.
Hroneck to Detroit.
hopefully the oilers are over the bug (if true) that was apparently infecting the team.
8:30 means 8:50 with too many commercials
man val and landy are 13 mil of cap space. They really could make big splash on the market with that kind of cap hit. If they won't be eligible to play till the end of the year it will be another underwhleming season with almost no depth
Avs need to just give the Captain to Mackinnon
He doesn't want it. He's said so on multiple occasions. Gabe will be the captain until he retires, and then I'd say Makar. Toews would be a good choice also.
As much as the fans disliked Jim Benning, he drafted most of our top end players and he traded for JT Miller. He deserves some credit for the Canucks' success.
He also threw away a pick in the OEL trade that was used to draft Dylan Guenther. Benning was pretty bad at trading and his draft record outside the first round wasn't great either.
@@TheHockeyGuy Didn't he draft Demko and Hoglander? I'm just saying Benning laid most of the foundation for the team we have...
Yes, but Benning also handed out horrible contracts and made awful trades. Allvin already has done more to make the Canucks a playoff team than Benning ever did.
As an avs fan I’m genuinely pissed they’ve kept him around for 2 full years as captain when he can’t even play.
I know my opinion is meaningless on the matter but I wouldn't miss Nichushkin. He seems like a liability in the playoffs because he can't keep himself out of trouble. I think Mittelstadt would be a much more reliable player to have despite perhaps a lower talent ceiling.
Unfortunately that Nichushkin contract is looking like it's gonna have a yoke attached to it.
Av's won't terminate Val because they probably can't. They said they looked at all options including termination, but it's not an option. They are likely stuck in the contract with him until he returns and makes another mistake at which point he won't be guaranteed reinstatement. They'll take the L for now and hope someone trades for him I'm sure, but the team sure as hell doesn't trust him anymore. I don't know who would take him with this history, though, a desperate team? Major liability, which sucks, because he developed into a great player after joining the Avs.
Great video
I think I should win GM of the year.
If Col trades Landeskog to Vegas, he will be ready to play by the first round next year.
Tocchet didn’t have enough top players in Arizona, but neither did he ever show much imagination or creativity to get more than the bear minimum out of the Coyotes.
Zito and it's not close
How does Chevy not get the nomination?? He made the trade of the year In unloading PLD...signed Sheif and Helly to long term...Brought In Monahan and Toffoli...Nucks just got lucky where they ended up in standings...We're expected to miss playoffs...Nil ok...
I see Canucks only lost four in a row once
I warned em, I said dont touch that trophy unless its the cup lol, Now look what happened, the curse is real, Both teams touched it, TB and Avs, not scared of the curse, Landi has been injured since, TB lost and got eliminated by the Leafs...
The difference is Tampa lifted that trophy while the Avs didn't.
Canucks would have still been screwed upon Demko's return with Boeser and Petterson dealing with issues.
At full health, the Canucks are a top 2 team with the Panthers. After this year though, I don't trust them to stay healthy. Poor coaching choices and selfish decision from Petterson playing while hurt because it was a contract year.
How can Pettersson be selfish when that is on the medical staff?
They knew back in January, and they could of rested him a few weeks before the play off's, yes?
Not only that, he promptly wanted to wait with the contract until summer.....but no, EVERYBODY in Vancouver wanted him signing as fast as possible....🤷
Ugh, Canucks fans 🤮
Canucks management have one good season and everyone is being nominated... Give me a break
God, I hope they can keep Hronek. We've already lost Tanev and having a defensively responsible pair to play alongside Hughes really helps him out, unless Rutherford has an option in mind that's much cheaper.
Hronek was near the top of the NHL in defensive zone giveaways this season. He wasn't good defensively.
@@TheHockeyGuyand at least in the playoffs he was caught napping in some goals against or chances
Yep, Zadorov should stay and Hronek should go.
I hope they trade him. He’s not worth 8 million. Use that money to keep Lindholm and Zadorov.

3. Cheveldayoff ( dubois trade, signing Scheifele and hellebuyck, drafting and development structure nearly unmatched)
Bill Zito all the way
Pettersons just tired. He's hauling around more letters every night than most players, that really starts to wear on you.
Can’t wait to not watch the Worlds.
The Avs need to not give up on Big Val. Maybe this is what it will take for him to get clean for good. He deserves one more chance.
And no, we do not give the captaincy to someone else until Landy is actually retired, and hopefully that day is a long, long ways off.
People for some reason think all the issues the Avs have would suddenly be cleared up with a new Captain. That's not the problem.
@@soulknife20Their logic is mACkInNoN sCoreS 100+ pOiNtS= cApTaIn. MacKinnon is not captain material by any means. Hall of fame player, but he gets too emotional at times.

Wtf 😂
He's like the heart and soul of any team he's in.
Knoblauch got robbed of the Jack Adams... Tocchet was no where near the best coach this season. Maurice was better. Knoblauch was better. The Canucks narrative (bandwagon) out ruled reality this season.
The Canucks won the division after not being picked to make the playoffs by most. The Oilers were a Cup favorite before the season strarted.
Despicable that Knobloch wasn't even a consideration for the Jack Adams
I guess a rookie coach having the best record in the league doesn't mean squat
