Panning the camera to Luongo after the score was 8-1 was absolutely savage.
Ruthless. I couldn't believe they did that. As an Oilers fan, I'll allow it 😁
He was probably thinking "I would have shut them out, put me in next Maurice" 😂
"It's not hard when you're playing in the paint. So it's an easy save for me".
Awesome
@@frankiew.b.9640 his Uncle Rico moment.
Nba and Nhl finals are straight up copying each other lol
no idea how to feel about it as a mavs/stars fan, at this point I'm just along for the ride
What is this sorcery? Hmm.
ESPN does control both series after all
When you ask your friend to copy their homework before class
the NHL Conference Finals copied themselves too. game for game it was the same end result.
The worst part about this game is I have to work two days between now and Game 5.
I'm ok to work. Better than being laid off
For me the worst is the game is on 3 AM and I have workday.
Considering how it could have been 4 months you have to work between now and the next game, I don't think that's a bad thing.
Advance Stats: Skinner is not playing that great.
Skinner: and I took that personally.
I saw this comment and went straight to Moneypuck. 1.5 goals saved above expected. Not bad. And Natural Stat Trick is saying about 3.8 expected goals against (which I think means 2.8 GSAA).
Unreal stat: Panthers have given up 17 goals in the past 2 cup-clinching games
They can take a bath on one game. They want to win on home ice.
That is unreal
They also lost 8-1 against Colorado in Game 2 of the 1996 Final
Oh God! That's amazing stat!
@@jonfreeman9682Yeah...they purposely lost and let in 8 goals in the process 🙄. Great take! 😅
Florida needs to channel their inner Gimli: "That still only counts as 1"
Hell yeah
This meme is gonna go wild 😂
::high fives::
Hahaha that is the best meme for this game (I’m an oilers fan). Well done 😂😂
Same with the Mavs. Stat Geeks: 🤓 Actually the Dallas Mavericks have more points in the series than the Celtics do, even being down 3-1. duuurrrrrrrrr
Well... I know a five goal lead by the Oilers might not be safe, but a seven goal lead should be.
As someone who was at the watch party at Amerant Bank Arena tonight, that was brutal. I never seen an arena sell out for a watch party and empty it so early 😞
just out of curiosity, how much does it usually cost to get into those?

The Oilers pretty consistently doubled the Panthers in high danger chances and shots from the slot etc for lots of this series, but it was weirdly sort of quietly buried as "Florida is the best team in the NHL with the best D" and I was like... Well, if Bob ever stops bailing them out with these incredible performances that could turn in a big way REAL fast. Boy did it ever tonight.
The division is pretty simple. There's the old guard of media and fans who don't realise how bias and selective memory make the "eye test" fail. These are the ones who think hits and blocks mean a team played well.
But a lot more fans and media are balancing out their observations with data. Ironically, these are the people who actually properly appreciate Bob's performance.
@@pyRoy6But even with "eye test" you could see in games 1, 3 & 4 that the Oilers were in control most of the time. Florida was just opportunistic and Bob played well.
@@giantsfan185 I guess I've been reading a lot of the same takes Shannon has. It seems most fans are certain that Florida dominated three games. Maybe it's just the Oilers fans who remember all of the scoring chances? That would make sense, due to the bias. Neutral and anti-Oiler fans remember the goals. And they assume that all is the shots were "from the outside."
The Oilers have scored from clean looks like this most of the series. You can count high danger chances and slot shots all you want, but if the shot is going along the ice to Bob's pads because of a stick check, it's hardly the same as someone getting to pick where to shoot and make a clean release. Today we saw what happens when Bob is truly asked to bail his team out time after time and it's not just some random stats you look after the game.
The Oilers need to cut down on bad turnovers though primarily from their D-Men. Some untimely ones in the first 3 games. If the D manages the Puck better and they continue to generate chances like they've been doing all series long they might have a chance to eke out a miracle.
On that last Panthers powerplay, Sam Reinhart played the worst NHL shift I've ever seen.
A thousand times worse than the infamous Pierre-Luc Dubois shift that got him traded.
What happened? I was watching but doing other things, and now I’m enthralled to learn about it
Tkachuk. Man, I fucking love Tkachuk to death, but damn, he's been a GHOST in these finals. He wires a shot to the crossbar, the puck ends up on Reinhart's stick, and Reinhart simply puts it in the post. With a wide open net. Holy shit.
Probably because the entire team knew the game was over since halfway through the 2nd. It didn’t really benefit them to waste too much energy trying to come back in this one
@@eddixon2015 Reinhart whiffed 2 pucks on the classic set play and then he missed a wide open net.
@@choppergunner8650 thanks Chop, just went back and rewatched… not sure if that’s the worst shift I’ve ever seen, but it may well be the worst display of skill I’ve ever seen 🤣, he couldn’t have done any worse with a pitching wedge.
It's 05:23 in Denmark as I watch this reviewing but I had to.
Atta boy!
A part of me wonders if the boys just wanted to lift the cup at home😂
And detroit is still the last team to sweep the stanley cup finals in 1998
It only took the Oilers four games to realize you need to go top shelf on Bob.
That's way too many games in a series that's best of 7.
@@rafaeluryayev7174Exactly. It's like they never watched last year's finals.
You have to go top shelf on every goalie.
Even though Gretzky said that in Game 1.
Top shelf is always more likely to beat a goalie, but you need to be a good shooter to hit the corners. When you're under duress, it's easier to hit the 5 hole or under the goalies armpits.
1942 was indeed the last successful 3-0 series comeback in the Stanley Cup Final. It almost happened again in 1945 when the Leafs nearly blew their own 3-0 series lead over the Red Wings.
And they won by 6 in game fou Oilers are also
8-0
16-0
5-0
After losing 3 in a row this year, LOTS of work to get where they need to be BUT there is a crack in wall now
Those streaks included games against teams like the Sharks, Blackhawks, Ducks, etc. the Oilers didn’t beat the Panthers in the regular season. Those streaks are irrelevant stats now
@GuyNoirPrivateEye875 The regular season losses vs FLA came before the Oilers were in top form
@@GuyNoirPrivateEye875The Oilers also went 0-4 in the regular season against the Canucks, that didn’t matter. They also played the President Trophy winning team in New York.
@@kevincarsales In 1942, Leafs won 4-3 in game 4. They won 9-3 in game 5.
Decent chaps from Florida allowing the Gentlemen’s Sweep.
Let's take a better look at this. The Celtics the night before, also being up 3-0 and on the road, getting completely blown out. One would start to think they both want to win in their home court/rink.
Winning a game by 7 goals in the stanley cup finals is crazy. Right when we thought we'd see a sweep we get the biggest one-sided stomp of the playoffs
Do you remember last year? Game 5? Florida got shellacked.
@@kerstinover4536 this is weirder since Oilers were down 3-0. At least the Knights were expected to finish the Panthers off. I still think Panthers win tho.
It just happened last finals. Nothing crazy, just a game that was decided early.
Man, Shannon uploads these really quick!
So the gameplan is Celtics win game 5 at home and Tatum in a post game interview says he's rooting for his buddy Tkachuk to also win at home the following day. Just 2 kids from St. Louis with a dream... 😂
NBA Finals: No sweep.
Stanley Cup Final: Copy and paste
NBA: Team going for the sweep gets destroyed
NHL: Check
Almost like there's a script...
Sweeps are bad for the business
NHL: I gotsta get paid
Both teams obviously tanked in order to win it all in front of the home crowd
McDavid's 32nd assist is the new NHL record for assists in a playoff year.

Unlikely that the Oilers win this series, but what a statement game from them. Have they figured out Bobrovsky?
Yeah. It could be over in 5, but I would hope that this shows what game 1 (maybe even game 3) would have been if Bob were mortal.
Strong or weak goaltending creates all sorts of illusions in our brains. I hope that the old-school fans and media realize that now. Bob deserves the Conn Smythe, hands down.
I mean, assuming Cats win Tuesday.
I would argue that even in the unlikely event the oilers win it all that Bob still gets the Conn Smyth. He flat out stole 2 of those wins for Florida and was steller most of the earlier series as well.
@@rexradar9297 agreed Skinner would need to pull of some amazing feats to push Bob out of the picture even with a win
Not yet. Seems like Bob threw this game away to get home ice win or a freebie for Oilers fans. He knows it's a slam dunk.
@@rexradar9297Not a chance he gets it if they lose. He just allowed 5 goals and got pulled. Fine if it happens once but not if they lose 3 in a row. If anything McDavid deserves it more win/lose if it goes 7 and he breaks Gretzkys all time points record.
Its just one game. Series is over in Florida.
Bob wins all 3 games but oilers find him in game 4 and the crashed him and they win series got my word
I agree I think panthers win next game at home
I bet the next game in Florida is going to be intense.
Tbh I don’t think any goals vs bob were bobs fault. Bad D on all of them and it just felt like one of those games where the oilers got all the bounces. I expect game 5 in Florida to be very different.
He should’ve had Holloway’s first goal, and he got straight up beat by both McDavid and Nurse
Certainly not all 8, but certainly some of them still were. Still, I can't really imagine the urgency was there for Florida like it was for Edmonton. Time will tell if that was a mistake.
well, I wonder what Paul Maurice is going to say.
Probably not much, I feel like he'll tell em they'll get it at home and walk out. Maurice will likely work the shit out of the team in practice, though.
Something along the lines of essentially getting them mad, and to bring back that efficient style of play they last had in the 2nd period of game 3
Panthers have shown, time and again, they're at their worst when they don't feel a sense of urgency or pressure to play at their best
Hats off to the Oilers, they played their game tonight and it finally paid off. However, like the NBA Finals that was also 3-0, with the Celtics similarly getting blown out in game 4, it's probably too little too late
Remember Gordon's speech in _D2_ after the 12-1?
we got 3 days to rest. Lets go home and end this so we don't have to block any more shots in game 6 and 7.
Finally a Heartbeat from the oilers..jeeesh long overdue..WHAT DID I JUST WITNESS! WOWZA
IDK where Florida was tonight but I feel like they took the night off
The Panthers threw that game.
Not talking about that Skinner Save on Verhaeghe and how it was basically a game saver is wild.
Great video otherwise
Please people, do not throw away your brooms as suggested by THG. Do the right thing and place them neatly in your closet. You may need them in 9 or so days 👀
When the panthers were up 2-0 EVERYONE was saying the goal was to split in EDM. Well, last I checked they split.
So, kinda wondering why the narrative is that EDM is back? The Panthers are exactly where any team would dream of being in a 7 game series and you freakin UA-camrs and media people are acting like it’s something to watch now.
NHL journalism is incredibly biased, it always has been. That being said, I think THG is pretty impartial. As a Panthers fan, we invited this narrative by letting ourselves get blown out. However, it’s still a dumb and biased narrative. We’ve been blown out twice in these playoffs and twice bounced back with a blowout win in the next game. Cats fans have been down this road before. After what these guys have been through these past two seasons, I believe they will come out next game with a fire under them and I’m hopeful we can finish this job on home ice.
I'm just happy the Oilers made it to the finals, I've been having a blast!
Oilers solved Brobovsky tonight. Going to be a much closer game in Sunrise but I’m hoping the Oilers can push it to a game 7 just for the entertainment.
Pure delusion.
He did say hoping.

Janmark scoring on you short-handed is a death knell. I'm fascinated if the Oilers can keep this up for a second game and make this a series.
I need to apologize: Guess you were right about Bob's impact on the series after all
Too many people don't give hockey guy credit for his expert analysis...nice to see someone give him credit
IMO this game doesn't mean that much. It doesn't really matter how much you win by, it just matters that you win. Down 3-0, all the Oilers did was prevent a sweep.
This game means a lot.
Yes it’s only 1 game, but it gives Edmonton a spark.. will they win the series? I’m unsure, but they sure as heck of momentum going into Florida
It’s almost like the Panthers let them win to win the series in Florida. Plus no one wants to see a Finals sweep. That or the Oilers were very angry that night.
meh charity game for the Oilers, Cats want to hoist the cup at home...i saw BOB smiling and laughing on the bench, he knows. /wink
Bet he loved letting in 5 goals in 16 shots. /wink
This is a perfect example of enjoying the moments you are given as a hockey fan. Any Oilers fan knows the odds are long and basically non existent, I have personally made my peace with the result of this series. But it's ride or die! Take the good memories you get to make when you make it to the highest stage of the sport, it is just so hard to get here and you never know when you will get back (ask Leafs fans about that one). The crowd in Edmonton deserved something to celebrate last night even if it is just for a moment, larger result be damned.
I just realized how awesome your review would be for blind people. Keep it up buds
Florida wanted to win in the USA, only reason they lost
I feel like this was game 4 of the Tampa vs. Florida (hard reset back to their system) and we’ll be good. But it was nice to see the Oilers show up and not stop
Most sensible comment
Florida wins in ot next game best come back?😮
I don’t, this game was identical to game 1 of this series, except this game they finally figured out physicality, alongside pressure to Bob and he will crack.
If the Panthers have been dominating this whole series I wouldn’t even bat an eye at this win, but it’s been a tight series except for game 2, and 4. If Edmonton carries this momentum into Florida and sneaks out a win, the Panthers now have the pressure all on them, cause they’re coming right back to this loud barn that went bonkers tonight and helped fuel the Oilers.
Let’s them enjoy it cause Tuesday is really going to sting but deep down they know it’s over.
@@jleif7736 everybody said this when Carolina started coming back vs NYR too, the thing is when you have a goalie that is as good as Shesty and Bob 4 games is enough to pull off 1 regardless of how the team plays, EDM just couldn't afford to give the first 3. The other side of what you said is that games 1 and 3 showed florida could win while getting outplayed which is even worse for EDM, not to mention their style is good defensively most of the time and they've already been in this exact position vs Tampa Bay. Don't forget how many goals the Oilers have scored in Florida this series. Panthers fans were too cocky after last game, now the Oilers fans are. Guess that's too be expected, I still got Florida in 5, wouldn't mind more hockey though, we shall see.
I still don't think Edmonton wins this series but at least they can push Florida a bit and go out fighting.

Practically near-impossible. But you know they can win one. And they can win one again. And now they have had the analytics edge in 3 of 4 games. If that's a genuine indicator of how these teams match up, they have a really good chance of winning another...then we'll see.

Oilers speed in this game was unbeatable.
That tying (and then breaking) of Gretzky's record wasn't just by an Oiler, it was in the league. Lemieux was also on the list, and he never played for the Oilers.
Gretzky did it in 3 less games though. If Gretzky had 22 GP he'd be at 38 assists or around there
Not to mention Gretzky has three postseasons where he had more assists than Lemieux, which just goes to show why Gretzky is the GOAT.
@@safejewel2072 66 missed two playoff games in 1991. he might well have had the records himself if he had been healthy enough for both.
99 was the better assist guy, but 66 was the better goal scorer and more talented player. with gretzky's health, he'd have gretzky's points. fewer assists, but he'd be the league's only 1000 goal scorer. it's a shame injuries robbed him of the chance to show us. it's kind of fascinating how far down the all-time scorers list you have to go to find the second guy with under 1000 GP.
Easiest path to the Cup Finals in league history though, so put a massive asterisk next to every McDavid assist and Oilers W.
The Moss Pit was such a vibe! And Shania Twain was amazing!! What a night
I'm not saying the Oilers pull off the reverse sweep but they have a chance. This series is tied if Bobrovsky doesn't play out of his mind in game 3. It's also not the first time in these playoffs the Oilers have not looked like themselves for a large portion of it. My prediction is the winner of game 5 wins the cup. Not exactly a bold prediction I know but that's where I'm at. Even if florida doesn't win on Tuesday they need a much better performance or they're in big trouble. Regardless of how this turns out, I think it's fair to say Bobrovsky doesn't get the Conn Smythe after tonight. Plus, if the Oilers pull this off what a spectacular way to end the Canadian curse.
That’s a generous prediction for the Oilers. The Panthers have every advantage by winning the first 3 games
Wow, Oilers fans and delusion go hand in hand.
Perhaps, Panthers just want to celebrate on home ice.
In this game, Connor McDavid established a new NHL all-time record in the number of assists in a playoff series by a player by surpassing Wayne Gretzky's previous record of 31 assists. McDavid now has 32 assists and counting which in itself is a phenominal feat for any NHL player.
Bobrovsky lost his mvp award.
He actually probably solidified it assuming they end up winning the series. He had a terrible game last night but if he bounces back and wins game 5 it just proves all the more that the success in this series has been whether or not he plays lights out.
No

I didn't have my broom out! By rights Edmonton should of won at least 1 of them 3 games? SCF 4th win is the hardest. One heck of a we are still in this! I won't lie I hope it goes to 7 I can never get enough hockey
@thehockeyguy my wife brought up and interesting question. How does one become the come CUP bearer? With what we seen last night the current has been at the helm for 30 years. We think it might be a interesting topic to discuss about the history of the position and its complete duties.
This series is really starting to mirror the celtics series we will see what game 5 has in store for both series
Woke up this morning and decided to look into some stats.
Teams down 3-0 going into game 4 have won 7 times before tonight. Note that the 7-game finals started in 1939, as 1938 was a 5-game series. So that's 84 years of Cups in that stat. Only 7. In those 7 games, teams have won by 2 goals 4 times. 2 of those 4 times the 2nd goal was an EN. Twice the winning goal was scored in OT. 4 of those series ended in game 5, including both of the OT winning games. One series (2012) went 6, two series went 7 (1942 and '45, both won by the Leafs from both sides of the equation).
Never had any of those teams won game 4 by more than 2 goals.
Here's the full summary, including last night's game:
2024 - FLA-EDM 8-1 EDM
2021 - TBL-MTL 3-2 MTL OT 5 Games
2012 - NJD-LAK 3-1 NJD EN 6 Games
1981 - NYI-MNS 4-2 MNS 5 Games
1957 - MTL-BOS 2-0 BOS EN 5 Games
1946 - MTL-BOS 3-2 BOS OT 5 Games
1945 - DET-TOR 5-3 DET 7 Games
1942 - TOR-DET 4-3 TOR 7 Games TOR
1938 - Best of 5
We're in uncharted territory. Let's see what this does to the Oilers and, maybe more importantly, Panthers.
Classic we don't need to win this game performance by Florida.
More like we'd prefer to win the cup in front of our own fans at home!
Yeah it really felt like after that 5-1 Florida decided there's no point to waste more energy. Which is probably true, 8-1 loss doesn't look pretty but neither does 4-1 or 5-1, a loss is a loss and the next game is what counts.

This was a nearly perfect game and the biggest posterior punting by one team over another certainly in the series. Bob got chased from the net. Stolarz was "better" but it's like comparing toxic waste to trying to swim a deep lake filled with excrement while intoxicated, they're both bad it's just that one will kill you faster (you're guess as to which). Florida did get one goal (hence the nearly perfect) but other than that Stu made some great saves. The guys in front of him did a great job (double the blocks per NST. almost double the takeaways (though nearly double the giveaways), the PK was perfect, the PP Scored (on a 5 on 3). When Florida decided that the game was best played without the puck and by hitting and scrumming no one backed down. There were a couple of foolish penalties (the first one by Nurse less than 2 minutes into the period is coming to mind) but honestly it wasn't bad. Minutes played were a LOT more balanced. Take care all
I SAID GOOD DAY SIR
I see THG favorite team won! good for you.
I had a feeling a sweep was not gonna happen. I think the last one was 1998. I hard to beat any team 4 in a row regardless how good the team is doing it. I definitely did not guess the game would go that bad for the Panthers, Bobrosky had a bad night and once they pulled him the Panthers just gave up and played much more relaxed at least in my opinion.
Even if we lose next game, I had fun tonight.
What happens when the Oilers win the next game?
