Im in track & for future reference, if your not running up a hill when running with your arms at a 90 degree it has been said that that the better way to sway your arms is , instead of having your thumb ups going up and down, have them go from your hip with a slight bend in your arm & a slight rotation of the thumb towards the chest, to then move at an angle, almost like a slashing motion underneath the chin if your not in your driving phase, if you are the thumbs above your chin with a little bigger slashing motion
My six-year daughter that just started running track this year. She's pretty fast but I want her to start working more on stride length (her stride frequency is great!). What hip opening exercises can you suggest that would help her with maximizing stride length. Her UA-cam videos are up with her running track (Jhalia Peoples) and she currently ranks 3rd nationally in 60m, 200m and 400m for 8 & under girls. Thanks.

Im sorry but all exercises do not have a neuromuscular emphasis when training. Journal of Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy state, " The objective of the neuromuscular training was to improve the ability and to generate a fast and optimal muscle firing pattern, to increase dynamic joint stability, and to relearn movement patterns and skills necessary during activities of daily living and sports activities."
Actually u can not increase the amount of fast twitch muscle you got. Till a special age u can try to recruit some more, but its genetically limited. U can only transform your fast ones to slow ones, but only for some time and through hard endurance Training, and its reversible. But still nice excercise for some small hip muscles!

Actually I suggest you read into Dr Andy Galpins work, not only can you increase your own fast twitch muscle fibres but you can change your muscle fibers to any varying degree of fast or slow with different types of training, ect. Muscle fibers can change as quickly as a week. Too much bro science in this comment chain 😂
Well the question is why wouldn't you do that? Some movement patterns of course are more beneficial to some than others but why not be educated on the tools you need to succeed or help someone else maximize their potential? We have tons of ways to strengthen the quads and hip flexors however this was a series on running form and speed and this is one of our favorites bc it includes the mechanics in the running motion.
