Supplemented by the 1529 Treaty of Zaragoza which is why Blackthorne says 70 years ago. Tordesillas marked longitudinal line down the Atlantic. Zaragoza defined an additional longitudinal line in the pacific one both powers became active in the area. Its why Blackthorne also draws 2 lines.
It would be okay probably for the priests but that would then force the show to find a good female and male lead that are fluent in japanese and portugese. They could have made John speak dutch to his crew and spanish to Rodriguez and the priest in prison though, a few lines would have been okay.
@@Andrei2patrUYuuup, good luck finding an actor who can do most of their dialogue in Portuguese and is technically English. Doable, I guess, but not really much room for the casting director to be choosy. It was nifty that The Passion of the Christ was in Aramaic. But Gladiator wasn't in Latin. Napoleon wasn't in French. The Death of Stalin wasn't in Russian.
Research the book Shotgun by James Clavell .. 1200 pages. The original mini series Shogun was in 1980 starring Richard Chamberlain, Toshiro Mifune and John Rhy Davis (Gimili) and was 9 hours long. This version is way more authentic historically than the novel and original mini series as those were based on the rise of The Tokugawa Shogunate that lasted almost 300 years .. From 1600 to 1860.
‘I bet history buffs love this’ abso-fucking-lutely 😂this show is phenomenal already

Yeah this is just a mini series based on a novel. These 10 episodes are all we’re getting, so savour them.
Which is more than enough to tell a story. It's comparable to LOTR run time.
I love the accent Cosmo Jarvis puts on as Blackthorne, reminds me of the "Democracy Manifest!" guy. 😂
10:24 - Good call, but before that: “The machine is still on, Moira.”
Going to be one hell of a limited series - I love it!
The Queen was Elisabeth the First.
I don't think it would be practical to have the cast learn Portuguese fluently enough for the show.
Yeah that’s fair, thank you Benjamin Linus🫡
