Gotta love JPM! Been following his career since his days with Ganassi when he took Champ Car by storm. The guy is a no BS, no f*cks given, old school type of racing driver. He had a fiery personality and it probably came back to bite him in the ass many times but it also got him to where he was too! I met him a few years back and he was very friendly and warm. Had a nice conversation with him about racing. Cool guy for sure!
Yeah beat the current F1 drivers at the time when he was 40. Shows he's got more talent in his little finger than just about anybody does in there whole body

If I remember correctly the only driver Michael said that he feared was Hakkinen. With Montoya, ever since he did that first move on him on one of the first races they fought, Michael showed some respect, but not hat much because he was very smart in pushing the right buttons to piss drivers off. And again, that's the thing he couldn't understand about Hakkinen, the Finn didn't fell for his tricks and so Michael was puzzled about it.
Is because of JP that i follow F1 . And probably a lot of people follow some type of racing because of him. Im sure that if he had stay in f 1 more years he would have been world champion .
I love his attitude towards Michael and Indy. Most people fear and have far too much respect for Michael and the indy 500. He had an attitude that he just didn't care and he won the 500 and continually passed Michael. What a great attitude to have.
I really liked JPM and I like him nowdays as well. If every would be an F1 All Starz race in the future, Montoya should get definitely a race seat there. I loved his style and I was disappointed to see him leave. Times are changing.
pretty cool .. not a bit ego at all.. just a real racer..i hope he wins Lemans .. he will have the triple crown before Fernando ..IF alonso ever gets it..
The greatest f1 world champion we never got, I wish he would come back to f1 and get the world title. He was a breath of fresh air in f1, he was so exciting.
Stirling Moss? Wolfgang von Trips? Chris Amon? Ronnie Peterson? Gilles Villeneuve? Carlos Reutemann? Didier Pironi? Honestly, i think Montoya is among the most overrated racing drivers of all time.
ralf and JPM were known to hate on each other in their williams days yet now they talk interviews and give such respect and compliment to each other maybe its an age thing i dno just intresting cuz ralf said similar things that jaun did
I liked Bmw so much back in the day, the definitely had the engine but the car obviously couldn't handle the power. I think JPM could have stayed longer in F1
@@nicogf99 unless it was clarified elsewhere by JPM the Dirt series wouldnt have excisted when JPM was a kid as the DiRT name didnt get started being used until the ps3

I am a newer F1 fanatic, Love NASCAR and only saw JPM race from NASCAR , remember the hype the broadcast booth and networks played up . He was a openwheel guy stepping down in to stock cars. Open wheel racing = who has the best equipment $$$ Stock car racing = best race craft. , most teams are equals.
So you are telling me that EGR was on the same level as Hendrick or Gibbs in NASCAR? Or that Jimmie Johnson would still have won 7 Cup championships if he was racing with Ganassi equipment instead of first class equipment like HMS?
He drove for McLaren in 05 and they had the fastest car yet he was destroyed by Kimi. His problem wasn't not getting a good car, it was losing his motivation.
@@nsp6590 he could have won many more races in 05 if not for reliability and team orders. Middle of the year he was beating Raikkonen a lot. The tyre rule killed his driving style. Plus he got fat and was around 15kg heavier than Raikkonen which added a few tenths per lap on, before they even turned a corner
So, you're saying that Michael Schumacher wasn't?? Jerez with Villeneuve. Adelaide vs Hill. Spa Francorchamps with Hakkinen. Budapest with Barrichello. Legend.
He was in F1 for only 6 years, but left most F1 fans impressed. ❤️

The greatest JPM moment? Montoya replying "oh deer" when his engineer told him there was a deer on the track at Belgium.
That was Austria. Oh Deer 😅

a driver that should've won at least 1 championship
He may have if the stewards didn't screw him at Indianapolis.
Imagine 2007 with him still in McLaren :'-)
pure talent but lacked the disipline a driver like schumacher or alonso has. hence why he only last 5 1/2 years
JPM was to aggressive for F1.
I know you mean F1, but he won CART one year and was literally one finishing position away from a 2nd in Indycar. He lost on a tiebreaker that year.
Jpm is pure raw talent. He has won in anything he has driven. And a ROC champ. Defo didn’t fear Michael. In speed or wheel to wheel.

I always wanted to ask Montoya why he never went to the IRL instead of NASCAR with CGR in 07.
Because IRL was shaky back then. Nascar wasn't exactly failing yet either. Plus the chip Ganassi factor, he had asked him to drive his car.
He wanted a new challenge. Even indycar has politics and he wanted to be completely free of that.
