One of the things I love to say on my tours when discussing war, corruption, bigotry and other things from the past is “boy, I am sure glad we don’t have any of THAT today…” I hope I can get people to see what past mistakes we are making once again, while finding a humorous way to convey it.
Lately, I have found myself dreaming over past adventures. My feet yearns for the journey ahead while my eyes imagines the views. Today, I may be sitting at my desk, but in my mind I am somewhere else.
Such an inspiring talk! Im a tour guide in Buenos Aires, i agree in every word he says, it' s not an easy job to be a tour guide, it is hard but challenging, as he says about feedback and to be much better....in spite of my 20 years experience, i want to be better tour guide, much better tomorrow. This was great!
The tour guide of all your guides has spoken and I was carefully listening to every word. I'm a tour guide too and he's right you really need to be constantly learning.
This is gold! Im currently in south africa on a nature guide education. Im from Sweden and that graduation thing is very funny haha. Its the biggest thing happening to most peoples life. Like the biggest step. As he said. Breaking away from childhood and tumbling into adulthood. Im glad we have that and I graduate this upcoming june! 🎉🇸🇪☀️🥂
Started at the Stanley hotel as a tour guide. At first it started as a job and before I knew it I became extremely passionate about the entire history of the place.
Mr.Rick Steves,I am sure you must have read many good books on history and geography before travelling to certain places but as a tour guide you are always well equipped in your knowledge of the place you would visit and could explain about your travel experiences better than any historian as " Seeing is believing " ! 😃
What a wonderful discussion. As a music teacher I try to make those connections with the music and history. As a trip leader of students I do the same thing when I take them to various places. I don't know how people travel and not find the connections, the bigger picture. Thank you.
Nicely said. I am a guide well I think, or trying to be one for last 18 years . I totally agree with you that one has to have passion .. I am from Bangladesh and get tourist or I rather say travelers and when connecting with locals and culture together and I find myself in class room where I can design my own way teaching , I LOVE MY JOB
Thank you for sharing, I’m a tour guide in Morocco, I would like one day if you could travel to Africa or Arab country and guide in there or go on a tour then you will have another perspective about all what you said in this video What you shared is good to take points from it but mostly you talk between US and Europe and Africa, Arab countries is totally different.
Y’all I’m cryingggggggg i have been trying to figure out what I want to do for a living with my life as I love so many things and and aspects of working with people of different ages and arts and everything and at the same time! I have such passion for people and the world and learning and I went on a travel abroad trip this past January which was absolutely incredible. I’ve also been trying to find something that feels like my old job which was mc-ing services for elementary students and adults and I feel like being a tour guide is a dream I am so excited to pursue. Also listening to them in this video speak has been so comforting and I feel like this makes me excited to wake up tomorrow. Thank you guys thank you so much for making this and being you! I’m still trying to figure out if I should go to school (online probably bc I work at Starbucks rn!) for psychology or art history as I think both apply to being a tour guide (I just need to decide if I would like to pursue being a therapist or an art teacher/therapist at the same time) thank you!!🤍 okay online they also have a tourism management degree so I might do that one because I’m sure it would help but reading it’s descriptions it seems more about the management than the tour guide so I’m not quite sure about that oneeeeeeeeee
Thank you, very very interesting, I would like to become a tour guide, but I am afraid of feedbacks, I think I really hate them because I am very insecure, but listening at you i understand that it could be a good opportunity to improve myself in every way.
hey @bigibtv4432, if you are genuine and authentic to yourself, that is a good start to becoming a tour guide. I am a tour guide myself, and what I found is that when I am most confident, I have better results. The knowledge of the city you want to guide is a bit much, and at the start, it may be rocky but when you start to memorize all the facts you will become loose, and it will turn into you becoming more in love with the city you guide! But number 1 is being confident in yourself, then being confident in the city you tour, because it is greater than you!
❤ thanks, I understand self-confidence is the key to everything, sure it's hard for me but I see that I have to challenge myself to improve myself. thank you ❤
This was very insightful and inspirational :) I'm looking at becoming a tour guide myself. Been studying wine, spirits, and beer for about 10 years with my current job just cautious about taking the plunge into a new setting. This being my dream job I have alot of excitement and anxiety about rhe position since It's all so new
It’s wonderful dialogue, absolutely if anyone want to hire in tour guide job he should engage with a people also he should have a good communication skills
Interesting talk, experienced travel and insightful comments but thinking yourself as a "global citizen" is the ultimate luxury belief, that belief is subsidized by others often in blood.
Not every travel experience should be discounted due to pollution. However, every travel experience can enhance the way we view pollution across the world and actually learn something from that journey we can share with others. The cost of travel does not have to be astronomical. There are ways to travel the world, help others and be efficient with our funds.

I can listen to Rick Steves for hours! What a pleasure. The interviewer was boring, was asking questions, but wasn’t able to make a conversation

Rick Steves is an inspiration!!! Love his attitude and intentions.

I'm lucky and grateful to find this video. I am a licensed tour guide in Bali, Indonesia.
I'm a tour guide who runs my own small safari company in Uganda
Number 1 skill is the language skill.

A tour guide is a narrow line between teaching and animation

Sure, in Scandinavia they have a kids drinking day. They also take you to jail for a month if your neighbor tells the police you smoked weed 😂
Im sure grandma meant well tho
Its expensive to travel and it pollutes...so how you address these facts ?
What?
Not every travel experience should be discounted due to pollution. However, every travel experience can enhance the way we view pollution across the world and actually learn something from that journey we can share with others. The cost of travel does not have to be astronomical. There are ways to travel the world, help others and be efficient with our funds.
You most probably can produce more pollution without leaving your bubble ! Sorry, but your opinion ( yeah it is one) is very vague.
He talked about this point in his video. Its towards the end.
Lately, I have found myself dreaming over past adventures. My feet yearns for the journey ahead while my eyes imagines the views. Today, I may be sitting at my desk, but in my mind I am somewhere else.
Great Tour Guide
