It wasn't too long ago that riding on a pontoon boat was considered decidedly uncool by people who worry about those sorts of things, but we’re pretty sure even the tragically hip would love to shoot a selfie aboard the South Bay 925 Super Sport. Everything about this package screams attitude, from the twin Mercury Verado 300 outboards to the wakesports tower that looks like it’s fiberglass but is actually powder-coated aluminum with a dash of sparkle for a little extra flash. The tower can be folded down for storage and has LED lights for nighttime ambiance. Some outboard-powered pontoons lack swim platform space, but the 925 actually has a large fiberglass one that’s padded for good looks and added comfort. To accommodate boaters who like a lower tow point, our test boat came with a ski tow arch between the engines and a stainless steel boarding ladder. There’s a wide, comfortable stern bench seat, and a fiberglass bow section gives it an aggressive silhouette.

It's amazing that a Pontoon Boat could have such a wow factor. I would long for a larger hard top perhaps extending 4-5 ft forward with raked supports of course. Really impressive.

This pontoon is gorgeous but my single Engine Playcraft runs a solid 60mph even on a hot day! I wonder why Brad Rowland's triple engine boat runs 116mph. Something is not right with this boat :(

It seemed a little slow to us too. I was at the Lake of the Ozarks when Brad Rowland cracked 100 mph for the first time. The South Bay rep insisted on driving the boat for the top end test, so I can't say for sure that is couldn't have gone faster. Alan Jones

What about the fuel tanks. Lots of them don't carry much fuel. Hope this one does.

You're right, sometimes that's a real problem. But not this one. It carries 104 gallons of go-fast juice. Alan Jones

Brads boat has triple ProMax 300’s 2 stroke , much more responsive and several hundred lbs lighter each!!! It is all about weight to power ratio. Plus hui hulls are way narrower and have a steeper leading edge. They are NOT. The same tri toons. His is designed for speed, and he’s got $150,000 into that stupid thing. So, yes the boat is faster, but what is he over compensating for??

Some people like speed...to the extreme. We'd prefer the little umbrellas stay in the drinks.

57 MPH? That is it ? Wit6h two 300 HP engines ? On an aluminum boat? I could see if it was a 25 to 30 foot center console, but not this.

Boating Magazine tested the exact same boat a week later on the same lake and got 58.8 mph. I bet I could have gotten 60 if South Bay had let me drive ; )

This is a Joystick boat. The Joystick motors are propped by Mercury for specific performance characteristics necessary to make the motors work as designed. As a result, top end is lost. I just bought the exact same boat, it's the twin sister ship 2016 demo, same colors, motors, everything except the Joystick and it runs 65mph. Not bad for a 29'6 LOA weighing in at 6400lbs full of fuel.

Sean O, Yes they are.. And it's hard for me to believe the prices they charge for boat motors these days..
Hell, you can buy a brand new 2500 4 door, 4x4 diesel truck, or a brand new ZO6 Corvette for what just ONE Seven Marine 557 or 627 engine costs.. It's just nuts!!
