300 HP, 50 mph South Bay 725RS "Tri-Toon" - One Wake

  • The South Bay 725RS is part of a new trend of faster, better handling, more luxurious, and more expensive pontoon boats. Unlike the pontoon boats of old, these new models have a third, central pontoon, bigger engines (up to DUAL 300 HP Outboards), beautifully trimmed interiors, and powerful stereo and lighting systems for turning heads on the water.
This One Wake was made possible by Jon Stovall, Parker, and the kind folks at Gainesville Marina & Boat Sales, Lake Lanier, Georgia

Back in my highschool days, my dad had a Chaparral 23 foot boat, it had a 5.3 Chevy V8 (I don't remember if it was an LS/vortec or not) and a Volvo Penta dual prop out drive, and it'd do 45-50 depending on load. One day his buddy showed up to the lake with a tritoon, and it was the first one any of us had ever seen, and it had a damn Chevy 350 in an inboard/outboard setup in it, LOL. That bastard kept right up with my dad's Chaparral, it was hilarious. The funniest part was that at speed, it threw HUGE waves off of the front of the pontoons since it didn't have any little canards to deflect the water spray, so he'd pass you basically looking like a rolling wake with a Bimini top and people's heard sticking out of it. Thing was hilarious. I didn't know they were still making tritoons until this video, nice to see there's still demand for silly awesome stuff. :)

Growing up, my father always had speed boats. I would make fun of pontoon boats as we flew past them.
Now hes starting to get a little older, he recently traded the speed boat in for a Pontoon, and I'm in love. When I buy a boat, itll definitely be a Pontoon.
The truth is, when you're flying 40mph or so, the engine is loud, the wind is loud, it's fun for a little, but on the lake theres no destination. I'm just driving on the lake for the sake of driving on the lake.
I can comfortably bring 8 or so friends out, and just park cruise along. Park somewhere and drink beer, swim, grill, and hang out.
Theres multiple decks and doors. Overall, I just get a much more fun experience in a day of boating on a pontoon boat.

I had a friend that a 30 foot tritoon and we loved that thing. It would do 35 with 10 head on it but it never ran like that but we enjoyed that boat because we had a large group of friends and we would usually all carry our boats but around 4 oclock we were on the pontoon for the rest of the night. All it was was a party on water. Definitely worth the money

My first experience with a pontoon was when I was 15 and a developer on our lake in NH hired me to show perspective customers around. Absolutely HATED that thing. 40HP Johnson, top speed of about 10mph. Took what felt like hours to get across the lake. Fast forward to today and these things rock. I'm really thinking about getting rid of my 23' Chaparral and going with one of these. So much more room and you never have to worry about chipping or scratching the gel coat. If you're boating on a lake these things are just way more practical.

I grew up on boats. My Parents had boats on Lake Michigan for 25 years. I love em but I also remember a sign my Dad had on our 42 ft Christ Craft. It said definition of a boat: it’s a hole in the water that you throw money into!!! LOL!!! Which can be true, however we used ours like a vacation cottage. So if you subtract the property Taxes’s and the higher cost of the land based building. It probably was not that expensive, (yea rite!!!) except the yearly maintenance and the fact that it got about 7 th’s of a mile to a gallon of gas!!!! It was powered by 2-283 cid V8 motors swinging 2-22inch props!! Ours was a wood boat so the bottom had to be repainted every year and it had to be completely checked bow to stern for any dry rot. It typically toot us a month of weekends to get it ready for the water each season. But it was worth it!!!! It also provided my Dad and I a great father and Son bonding experience. One year we both took the US Power Squadron Course where we learned how to plot courses and other cool marine stuff. Of course who needs Course plotting with all the GPS technology that we have today. However that was back in the 70’s.

Honda makes 250hp outboards that are basically Acura TLX engines modified for marine use. They even have VTEC!

I used to always have runabouts or ski boats with big American V8s and the only thing my pontoon doesn’t do that those would is sound good. The new pontoons are awesome. Ride good, good top speed and tons of room. Only thing you can’t do that specialty boat can is probably wakeboard or surf.

Bad ass! I've never owned a boat. I've never had any interest in them. This boat might change my mind. Very cool! It's a floating room on the water. I dig it

If you want to see a nice "pontoon" boat, go check out the JC Tritoon. My grandpa just sold one for $120,000. Twin outboard Volvo engines. Come to Lake Havasu City, AZ and go to The Boat Brokers. Ask for Bill Draper. He would be happy to take you out.

Matt, if you want to drive something with amazing handling, and a 350-400hp V8 in the middle, you need to get into a Mastercraft ProStar

    • @ROTAXD
      @ROTAXD 7 років тому

Andrew Devall mastercraft are absolute garbage unless you're a degenerate wakeboarder. They're a 1 trick pony that comes outnof the gate hard (as per design) but has no top speed due to the 1930's drive system on them. You'd think they'd grow up and graduate to a sterndrive at this point.

Very cool boat, I'm loving the One Wake series. That price is batshit insane for a pontoon but I live in SoFl and frequently see center consoles that sell for 500K or more so I'm sure there's a market. If my numbers ever come up in the lotto a 100mph pontoon sounds like an excellent way to scare the living piss out of my friends and family.

We called em party boats in the 60s. They had an upper sun deck that had no seats, and there were always kids up there. The ones I saw never went to fast though.

I see these boats all the time. We have South Bay, Bennington, and JC made up here. I've seen them with triples hanging off the ass blowing away dang near everything on the lake. About the only things that keep up with them are a couple Donzis and Formulas. Nautiques, Mastercrafts, Axis, and many more just get left in the wake!

Matt, some corrections on the Yamaha F300. It shares a Naturally Aspirated 4.2L V6 that is available in models from the VF200/225/250 SHO & F225/250/300. Almost all current Yamaha four strokes are designed to rev to 6000rpm at full throttle. The F115 revs to 6300rpms. That boat may be propped incorrectly, and may need to come down an inch in propeller pitch.
Yeah, I work for Yamaha! We're headquartered in Kennesaw.
