My Grandfather was commando and SAS. He lied about his age and joined up at age 14.His commanding officer was Major Roy Faran. He was from Aston Birmingham.
A couple of years ago I became a basketball coach, with little experience of the game, however I've fully submersed myself in the game and absolutely love it. (I also play the game now, which is kicking the crap out of me at 50 years old 😂) Your podcasts with the ex military guys have been so helpful with my coaching in terms of mindset, application, attitude, perseverance, leading and so on. Really appreciate these discussions, thank you!
Respect to Staz and respect to a lot of the SBS lads that always seem to come across very well. Big Phil also comes across well and the difference between the Royal Marine (Glynn) and SFFG Para (Dave) just about sums my thinking up - watch Phil's "Force TV" to see them and enough said... I am a veteran Sgt Maj RM, did 6 operational tours and captured a terrorist in NI which I got an operational award for. I want to remain 100% anonymous. I had a very successful second career and truly believe you must make a complete break and change of direction to make that happen - apologies for stating the obvious. I do think all veteran Royal Marines have the necessary basic skills or can easily get the extra skills to acquire a good job. In the military everyone in your company has your back in industry no-one in your company has your back. It is called office politics and becomes more important than section battle drills when serving. It took me my first job to get my head round Office politics but once I had I was flying. Finally, an example of how much I bullshit is my wife's best friend of 40 years only found out that I had captured a terrorist over Christmas 24 and I had to show her proof so that she believed me. I have done numerous joint family holidays with them and never spoke of it with her.

A big takeaway I always get from so many interviewees is that they have this massive ability to persevere through anything life throws at them,even if they're knocked back and that they're not afraid to take on challenges and be out of their comfort zones. There's always something in there to take inspiration from.

Those 12 weeks on my sniper cadre was one of the hardest but most enjoyable times of my life, to be a badged sniper in a battalion is a big must, the level of respect you get from being a badged sniper is unbelievable, anybody in or wanting to go into the infantry and be the best they can be I would definitely recommend going for it, or even the recce course who snipers work closely with that is a gruelling course be much respect for the blokes attempting it and passing it and again gains so much respect, there’s my video I made on my channel from my tour of Afghanistan with a bunch of men and women who I will share that experience with for the rest of my life, stay low, move fast, SWIFT & BOLD
