    I served with Foxys Dad in 42 Commando during the early 70's, 2nd lieutenant Peter Fox as he was in those days in N Ireland, a great guy to serve under, easy to see where Foxy gets it from !.

    The 10 second rule is very important. After the Air France 447 crash - we brought in a module called Startle and Surprise. The golden rule was to sit on your hands for 10 seconds…don’t rush into a motor response.
    Great episode again - and Foxy speaks very well on his experiences. His books are definitely worth a read/listen.

    Hi Jason, great point about how you dealt with the fear of heights. I think we all have our coping mechanisms to boost us through varying difficult situations. I like your comments about an emotional stock take, I have had to do that in Lebanon in 2006 unfortunately. If you ever want a chat please feel free to reach out.

    42:34 not usually one to comment, but this is a brilliant question and super interesting to listen to Foxys perspective. Disappointing that the answer was interrupted by an ad, leaves a bit of a stain of what was great content! That's the YT world we live in I guess 🙄

    i'd be brilliant in the SAS. I'd always put my team before me, especially if we we're storming a building filled with armed terrorists because all they'd hear from me is "fu@k off, you go first"...wouldn't last a minute at what special forces do and grateful to them.

    Some good simple advice we overlook or fail to carry out because we want to short cut the process. Live your life inside and outside, dont be lazy or short cut. Even if it is a shit boring task dont short cut you are only short cutting yourself and the experience. I am 66 now and my 4 year old granddaughter now lives with me so I have incorporated her needs into my life. Sometimes I find myself short cutting and I have to have a word with myself. If I am tired I need to be more efficient or go to bed earlier/wake up earlier to fit it in. We waste most of the day anyway. Dont leave anything until tomorrow what you can do today as we dont know what tomorrow will bring. This is the real thing Ladies and Gents do it to the best of your ability.

    Question here that hopefully someone can answer as I am conflicted. I am 21 at the moment and I am currently training in preparation to try and join the Royal Marines. I have the qualifications to go in as an Officer so that is what I have been looking at. I am however concerned that going in as commissioned will mean largely a managerial and administrative role for the majority of my career when, at heart I like to be in the thick of it, planning operations or not I prefer to be involved doing the dirty work. I want to make a career out of the military and will probably stay in for a long time. Not sure wether to go Enlisted or Commissioned.
    I would be very grateful if anyone here as advice regarding my situation.
    Cheers,
    Ollie

    • @winston6752
      @winston6752 5 місяців тому +2

      Hey mate, I had the qualifications to join as an officer but joined as a marine. I don't regret it.
      Thoroughly enjoyed my time as a grav and wouldn't change it. Your first job as an officer is going to be a troop commander at a unit (Lt to capt rank). You'll be planning everything about your troops life, exercises, annual reports, ops, the works. I've met some class officers in my time who knew how to balance things and have a good relationship with the lads but you have to have a level of separation from the lads to be able to lead effectively.
      It all depends what you want out of it. Either will set you in good stead for life and nobody but you can make the choice for you. Good luck mate
