    "I control my day" is my new motto. So much truth.

      Controlling your day is a must. It has to be or else you'll be running around like a chicken with it's head cut off. Working in a hospital is already stressful enough.
      Thanks for watching!

    I just started as a Unit Secretary for the first and I am so nervous . I ran up on your videos and they are so helpful! I love how you say “I Control My Day” & that is absolutely the way to go about it. I also think it is a good idea to always prepare for things to hit the fan. Thanks so much!

    Thank you so much for your information. I'm not sure if this is a Canadian term, but here we are called a Unit Assistant---but it's the same job. I have 3 casual jobs at my local hospital. They are all doing hospital administration/unit assistant duties but they are all completely different. I really enjoy them all, and the flexibility that comes with being able to pick up shifts according to my personal/home schedule. I do find working in healthcare very stressful though, so I really like your motto "I control my day."

    I enjoyed your video, and of course the printer issue. I know the feeling when no one wants to fill the paper. I was hoping more about order forms and real-life situations, and how you handle looking up information for patients and doctors, and what forms are used. I am enrolled in a college course called Health Unit Coordinating program and the book is very well put together. I wanted to review other people's opinions on how they handle doctors and nurses as your working in the front. I use to be a telephone operator and I loved answering questions and go above and beyond to help people on solving the problems they are having. I also wanted to know does a unit secretary has to carry a pager? When I was a telephone operator, we always paged on-call doctors and nurses and forward and unforward their pagers for them. I use to make announcements for codes it was a lot of practice but got used to the fact I know I was helping doctors saving a patient and telling them where to go.

    It’s crazy how you talked so much about wiping down because of all the germs that could be passed around a year ago and right after here comes Covid. I know your team was okay with you around. Everything sanitized. Cuz you “prepare for the worst” okaaaayyyy💁🏽‍♀️

    about factsheets and labels do you print? We have some patients that are there for just 24hrs. New HUC

    • @HospitalSecretary
      @HospitalSecretary  5 років тому +2

      I always print both regardless. I know some floors are observation floors and the patients are usually not there that long. But I would still print one of each just in case the computers go down or something happens. I'm going to make a video about Code Blues and Fire Alarms and I think you'll see the importance of facesheets and labels. Thanks for watching.

      And comments like this are a huge part of the reason why students fail. How the hell are we supposed to learn if everyone we work with just gets pissed off at us for everything?

    Do most HUC people float or do you stay on the same floor all the time

    • @HospitalSecretary
      @HospitalSecretary  3 роки тому

      Hi. It depends on what type of unit you work on. When I started, I never floated because the unit required 2 secretaries. But when I moved to the ICU, the census dictated if we floated or were backed down or canceled. I'll make a more detailed video for you.
      Thanks for watching.

    Is unit secretary same as ward clerk?

    • @HospitalSecretary
      @HospitalSecretary  4 роки тому +1

      Yes. They are called by so many different names it's ridiculous, but they all mean the same thing.
