These demos, and Lynn Thompson's enthusiasm when talking about (about demonstrating) his products really sets Cold Steel apart from other knife manufacturers. I'm not even a big knife collector, but I occasionally find myself ordering Cold Steel products because of the brilliant marketing (of products which are themselves brilliant).
Shots fired spyderco! they have decent knives but their prices are just way the hell out of control, you definitely get more bang for your buck from cold steel and the prices are honest!
I've stated for many years online and offline, whether a purchase is for collecting, self defense, utility, or all of the above - Cold Steel gives great pound for pound value at all price points. The best thing about their products is that you really want to use them, even if certain models are costly. Co-workers flipped out when I regularly used my $90 early version of the Recon 1 folder. When asked why, I just told them our issued American (Klein) folders were inadequate for our uses. The Recon 1 cut with it's AUS8A was WAY better in cutting and holding an edge and deploying/closing with heavy work gloves. It also didn't have a cheesy liner lock.
I love how Cold Steel took care of the customer demand for an upgraded steel. S35VN and CTS-XHP are both amazing steels. The designs are proven and now they have the steels to do them justice. Fantastic!
I own many knives. I recently purchased this one. As soon as I opened it, held it, observed it, hadn't even cut anything with it yet, I thought this knife could be very intimidating, yet very dangerous to who ever is on the recieving end. This knife can be very utilitarian, yet a great defense tool.
This kind of blade has alot of use in edc applications and if you use it everyday plain edge is going to be the go to for a lot of people because of the sharpen ability (of course the serrated edge is better suited in a self defense situation ;) )
I've been a customer of coldsteel for many years ,and their the only ones who do it like they do ! As far as creativity ,craftsmanship, and purposeful folders with the most strongest locking mechanism in the world ,they have me for life!
"You put this in your hand and your hand likes it." I love you Lynn Thompson. The tube needs more husky guys loving the fact they sell the best affordable knives on the market with some great Taiwanese steel. #huskyheadquarters from a guy who bought pants as a middle schooler at kmart in the "husky headquarters" My two extremely athletic brothers berated me for years over that. I'm now not husky but thin. Thanks cold steel for helping me shave the fat away. #lynnthompsonforpres
Such an amazing knife!! Really enjoy ColdSteel knives. But this is sinister!!! Love Voyagers and AK47. Because I can use them in every day use. Talon has only one use. Super intimidating!! And that s35v steel is just the best!!
I once received this knife by accident when I ordered a Recon 1 tanto. I was surprised to receive this knife, but I laughed when I opened it since it was so hilariously freakish to me. That being said, I used it to open some boxes while I could. The knife came very smooth right out of the box, the handle was very comfortable, and the whole thing truly was razor sharp right out of the box. For a while, I did consider seeing what I could do about just having a Recon 1 tanto sent to me though I was sure it may not work out, point being I tried to keep this. I was pretty sad to have to send it back, but one day, I might get this on purpose 😉. Thanks Cold Steel for making the best knives i’ve ever had the pleasure to use and carry for years. Keep it up!
One thing that separates Cold Steel from the rest, to me, is how passionate Lynn is about his craft. Production knives? Sure. But they’re approved by a man who knows wth he’s talking about.
That knife is absolutely beautiful! As most of you knives. I call that a show knife look but don't touch lol. Mr. Thompson I have a man crush on you lol I think your are very cool person. And it's very nice that give gifts when you visit your products distributors, that's so cool. Meeting you & your store is on my bucket list. Lol one day. Thank you for putting out great products.
I'm always amazed at people who will spend 2 or 3 times the money for the same thing but a "better name". The truth is, there is no better name for me than Cold Steel. I've been in love with the company for over 20 years. I still EDC the Vacquero Grande. My oldest knife.
My Black Talon 2 arrives tomorrow. Cannot wait to get it!! I did a ton of online research before buying it. I have a ton of knives-- everything from Kershaws, Spydercos to Chris Reeve and Reate. I'm very excited to get this. Great video-- since handgun conceal carry is illegal where I live I figure this is the next best thing. Hopefully will never have to use it.
Love meat cutting vids. Its the unapologetic truth of why most of us carry these types of knives. Also can i carry this blade in california? Or is it to scary and evil?
The Black Talon 2 (serrated) is my go to 100% daily carry, should I have one blade. I have the serrated and non-serrated in S35VN and both in XHP. Out of all of the fancy, overbuilt and otherwise (extensively varied in price, size, bladesteels, materials, locks and deployment methods, etc.) blades in my admittedly oversized (overkill) collection; the BT2 has just not been surpassed as the most faithful bladed buddy. No task or material will it shy away from, pocket deployment, versatility, etc.; and a piece of defensive brilliance. So well designed. I would love to see perhaps a Lynn Thompson edition XL Black Talon, DLC coated, in XHP would be great, but S35 would be just fine. Even a DLC coated edition in standard size would be awesome. Cold Steel has undoubtedly been the best blade for the buck, and luckily I've built a fairly impressive CS collection, not including the sjamboks and sticks and so on. It is amazing how much steel one can carry comfortably in even light clothing, thanks to CS, and also the genuine realization of a pocket's true potential. Next buy will be the L.T. edition serrated Spartan. Look forward to the Mayhem!
Used to be a Spyderco fanboy but I can’t really afford them anymore. I’m glad I found out about this knife. Definitely a better buy than the civilian. Black talon is a Cooler name too lol.
Lynn and Cold Steel are the knife comunity real world version of super heroes ,over the top larger than life, unapologetic butt kickers.🔪🔪🔪Cold Steel rocks! ⚡⚡SHAZAM⚡⚡
I like cold steel and spiderco, it’s just annoying how everyone assumes spyderco is way more money all the time, cold steel also has expensive knives, the matriarch 2 is vg 10 yes, but you can also get a coated blade with frn handles for 117$ on blade hq, the talon is 109, I’m not seeing the gap as much others I guess, Cold steel will still always and forever have the greatest videos though lol
Received my Black Talon 2 serrated folder today. I have a ton of EDC type knives that I carry for all sorts of tasks-- opening boxes, prying on things, emergency situations etc. But I bought this knife solely as a defensive tool. I also bought a Spyderco Matriarch 2 last week. So now I have 2 defensive blades. I was going to buy a Spyderco Civilian until I did more research and found the BT2 to my liking. So I can only compare the BT2 to my other "defensive" type Matriarch 2 knife--The BT2 is bigger and meaner looking, almost makes the Matriarch 2 feel like a little toy in my hand when compared. BUT, one thing I found today upon comparing the 2 knives is , although I am very happy with the extremely pointy edge on the BT2--almost as sharp as the Matriarch 2 which is just wicked-- the serrations on the BT2 are not nearly as sharp. The serrations on the Matriarch 2 are much deeper/sharper and I cannot run my finger even very lightly along the serrated part of the blade without inducing serious pain. The BT2 , on the other hand, I can run my finger along the serrated blade no issue and no pain. So I am much happier with the serrations on the Matriarch 2 -- they are much sharper. However, I still love the BT2- it's big and mean, and very sturdy.
I train some PTK and now I really really want this knife, after my first knife sparrings with Krav Maga dudes I noticed it’s more natural for most people to slash someone than have a good stab, at least when we try to control the distance, dunno about ground fighting tho probably stabs would be more beneficial… Hope this thing can go thru winter jackets too tho. Love Cold Steel designs and ideas, awesome blade and it has the Tri-AD lock!
Yes, it's very cool and brutal knife! I'm realy enjoyed it. I think it will be my favorite knife. Now it's Ti-Lite 6. But Black Talon II can take this place.
Love it or hate it but Cold Steel is the only company that makes everything from well designed edc blades to outlandish and huge folding knives that are actually functional, made from quality materials and fairly affordable!
I bought and used my serrated version specifically for utility use eg. 2 year old, sun seasoned ratchet straps, rope, cardboard, wire stripping, notching, scoring, cutting horse mat...etc. no issues with lockup or tip failure. Not to badmouth the competition, but they specifically say NOT to use it for utility. Just saying.
Earned a sub and a like from me.....and probably a sale..... This and an SR1 tanto are on my list.....and as a man who owns the Civilian and the Matriarch.....that says something..... Also I dig the ish out of Lynn....I'd love to have dinner with this guy some time and just listen to him tell stories....so interesting.....a man who does his passion.....I love it.
Someone please tell me, afterward that was prepped seasoned and smoked on a smoker!!! NICE MARBLING I actually own this knife and might buy another as the one I have came with a nearly micro hook at the very very tip. But the CTX XHP is so friggen hard it doesn't just quickly grind away plus...I might eventually see if Cold steel will look at repairing or possibly replacing but literally. I have shaved my side burns with it with the factory edge (not recommended, my Gillette is still a little smoother shaving but not much)
Cartel approved 9/10. Just for 85.99$ you can cut 3 inch deep and 3 feet long cuts. Cartel recommends serrated edge because you can cut lot of deep and fast cuts all day long.
I would love that in a fixed blade with a ring on it like a kerambit, be a perfect boat knife that would be hard to drop for cutting rope, netting and lines and such. clip it right to my pfd for canoing/kayaking

Spyderco knives are for women and children
Yeah once they raised prices again alot of them just got ridiculous
You do realize the irony that this blade shape is a Spyderco design, right?
They're my two favourite companies, and i have many from both, and carry a combo of the 2 daily.

Yep, them and Spyderco are the 2 best knife companies for me.

I've bought more than a dozen Cold Steel 'tools' over the years, never been disappointed.
Absolutely love this knife with the cog ring.totally BAD ASS ! thx for designing and making this knife.
I love having my Black Talon II as part of my EDC. My favorite knife overall.
