    I've been crocheting for almost 45 years and still can't read a pattern. Having videos like your videos has opened up a whole new world of crocheting for me since I don't have to make up stitches or use the same ones that someone has shown me. I've done quite a few Catherine's Wheel blankets but I love listening to your tutorial over all the others. I get a big kick out of your lovely accent and the way you make it so easy to follow your directions. Thank you for posting!

    Thank you for the great tutorial! I've wanted to make one of these for a long time and I think I'm finally going to tackle it. Your instructions are very clear and your voice is pleasant to listen to, as well!
    If you or anyone else could answer this question, I'd appreciate it. Does the length of the foundation chain pretty closely reflect the finished width of the blanket, or does the chain kind of lose length as you do the first row? That is, if I wanted a blanket that was approximately 60 in wide, would I make the chain about 60 inches long? I understand it is not your job to teach everyone on the internet how to crochet individually. 😂 But if I don't have to start this blanket four times, I'll be grateful. Thanks again!

    To make a strong foundation crochet row, see /do a search for Teresa Richardson'sm "Crochet Geek" learning videos,. She teaches how to do the foundation row in either single crochet foundation or double crochet foundation & I use it all the time because with a regular chain, the edge looks sloppy. I you don't want to or can't do that, go down 2-sizes in your crochet needle for the regular crochet edge. Happy Crocheting.

    • @vegangelist
      @vegangelist 8 років тому +6

      going down in size for your foundation chains can make your starting edge too tight and therefore cause a deformed shape.
      There's another alternative: working your first row of stitches into the back bump of the starting chains gives a nice edge and making a loose chain will keep that starting row stretchy and not cause your work to be misshapen by a too tight starting edge.

    Thanks for the tutorial. It's very easy to follow. I've started (and am almost done) with making this pattern into a baby blanket for my sister in law who is pregnant. Do you have any suggestions on placing a boarder on it. One side is lovely, the other where I'm changing colors isn't quite as polished and I think it would benefit from a boarder, but I'm not 100% sure how to go about it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi there, this video is super helpful, but I was wondering if you could help me work out how many base stitches
    I should chain if I am using a 3.25 hook and appropriate yarn? I would like it to be approximately 2.5X3.5 feet. but I am also thinking of putting a small border around the edge. Thanks in advance!

      +spunki79 I just now saw this video, myself, and found the site where you can get all the colors of yarn that she used in the video. It is called "Drops Lima" yarn, and you can see the colors at loveknitting dot com. They won't let me put the actual URL here, so that's why I wrote it as I did. :)

    • @susiehomemakersmith6789
      @susiehomemakersmith6789 9 років тому

      +spunki79 As Cindy said, it's 'Drops Lima' and according to the color chart, it looks like the blanket is made using the colors: Navy Blue, Grey Blue, Ice Blue, Pistachio and Off White. Availability varies so just search by 'Drops Lima' and you'll find who sells the colors you'd like to use (loveknitting dot com didn't have all of the colors when I looked just now).

    If I just want to do 7 dc instead of 9 dc, what would the numbers of chains be “before and after” the stitches? Like, instead of the 4 ch and then the 3 ch done after the sc. I can’t really explain it right.

    OMG! I must tell I don't know if its possible to have created a 'NEW' stitch, but watching you closely I realize I just made an entire Blanket (king size) with what I thought was a Double crochet. I made my stitch like this: with my starter stitch I yarn over, go into the stitch, yarn over, (this leaves 4 stitches on my hook) pull the 2 & 3 stitch over & off, yarn over and pull the last two stitches off. I thought that was a Dbl crochet! My blanket is GORGEOUS, but apparently I've done it wrong! I've never taken the 1st stitch by itself off! Is this a stitch? What have I done? I'd love to send a picture so you can see it! T.Y. ☺

    • @woolywonderscrochet7586
      @woolywonderscrochet7586  8 років тому +1

      +Sharon Underwood that is great! For this blanket a simple single crochet border would be nice. Attach your yarn into any stitch around, ch1, work 1sc into the stitch that you attached your yarn into, work 1sc into each stitch around working 4sc into each corner, work a sl st into the first st that you worked at fasten off. Repeat that round 2 more times. To see how to do this please see the end of my baby blanket tutorial (grey blanket with bunny in picture). I hope this helps, thank you for watching x

    On the first row how do you stop that loop that you put the 9 dc in, from getting so big. It doesn't look anything like your small holes which are hardly noticeable.

    • @woolywonderscrochet7586

      Hi +cloudydaez to stop the big holes insert your hook through more than one loop. If you just go through one loop of each chain you will get big holes. i hope this helps, thank you for watching x

    Do you have written instructions somewhere? I'm hard of hearing...sorry. I can't understand the numbers. Foundation chain- multiples of 8?. Then the first time you do the 9 double crochets. You do an extra chain then go back & put it into the 5th chain.

  • @serikina1
    @serikina1 9 років тому

    What do you mean the multiple og eight of chain?

    • @susiehomemakersmith6789
      @susiehomemakersmith6789 9 років тому

      +kina kw She means that you can increase or decrease the size of the blanket using only multiples of 8 or the pattern will not come out correctly. So, 64, 72, 80, 88, 96, 104,112, 120, 128, etc. stitches for your foundation chain. Anything in between won't work in order to achieve this pattern. You determine how large or small a blanket you want. Hope that helps.
