Great story and video! I am 74yo, and at the age of 28 I bought two brand new 1976 Caddy one a Coupe de Ville white leather interior and. a Sedan de Ville d'Elegance dark green pillow cushion seats both cars Kingswood Green. Besides The 1973 Dark Brown Cream Vinyl Top Coupe de Vile these three Caddy were my favorite for comfort and driving ever period1 If I had the money I'd give it to you to have a complete frame off restoration. You are so very lucky too have such a beautiful gift from your Grandparents. God Bless you and yours!
Awesome, my 1st car was a 73 Sedan Deville, took it on trips all the time, I have an 88 Brougham, I drove it to Boston and Back last year.... nothing like a road trip in a Cadillac.... especially an old one.
Super sweeet, I love the 74-76 fleetwood, sedan DeVille and coupe DeVilles. They are my favorite caddie body style. I prefer the 74 the most as they are the last year with round headlights
Fantastic video, thanks for sharing, these cars were built for this kind of stuff, comfortably floating down the highway with ease and could easily do 75 - 80 with no effort at all. Nice colour combination, I have a 73 Fleetwood that when I’m driving I refer to it as my living room on wheels. This was back when they made quality cars
Wow just beautiful looking & kept car! Really 🛣️ worthy too. A 🏆 of the ages. And a small carburetor glitch on the journey. She is a road warrior. Thanks for sharing. Happy travels! 😀👍🏼
WOW THOSE BEAUTIFUL CADILLACS BRINGS BACK MEMORIES WHEN I WAS A KID THATS WHEN CADILLAC WAS CADILLAC BEAUTY STYLE CLASS I LOVE THEM CADILLACS TILL THIS DAY 👍✌️
I have a 75 Coupe DeVille Cabriolet. Restored it 25 years ago and put 35 thousand miles on in that time. These are great cars. Enjoyed your video, nice choice in tires too.
I started not to watch this video but I am so glad I did, one because I absolutely LOVE this Cadillac so much and another because I love that route you took, and you stopped about 3 miles from me in Harbison, I can imagine that was a dream in those comfortable seats on a long trip like that!
Damn that wagon is nice too! Can’t wait to add a big cruiser to my lineup. Just brought back a 75 Apollo from the dead with a new engine. I still want a fleetwood, Electra, or new yorker
thanks for watching, hope to get a post up for the wagon soon! any of those three would be great, but you almost never see the big chryslers out on the road - a new yorker or imperial would be fantastic
This was such a fun video, thanks for sharing the drive and the awesome car! The music and transitions you use here work great for the experience as well. I was so relieved to see you were able to get back on the road after the unexpected delay. How long did it take you to solve the issue and get it started again? I really hope to see more videos as you continue to restore this beautiful car!
thanks for watching and for the comment! I piddled around for nearly two hours, as the auto parts store was further away than I had anticipated. more videos are planned!
Hi from Sydney , Australia. I have 2 of these a black '74 Fleetwood Talisman I have been driving now for 40 years, & my "spare" a white 1972 70th Anniversary Fleetwood Brougham that I have owned for 32 years. They have been maintained regardless of cost as registered for business use, all running costs have been offset against income tax. They have been flawlessly reliable both are right hand drive, assembled by GM-Holden Australia, also we had no anti-pollution EPA laws for years to come. So Aussie RHD ones have full power engines, not hobbled and detuned like US home market cars. So they have more punch than a 1960's muscle car. I have a country house/property, both mine frequently make the 800kilometre trip (500miles) from Sydney. Nothing compares to them for long road trips.
I have a 1996 Fleetwood Brougham, which is the last iteration of this car. She's not quite as big as your 1976, but she still floats down the road. Fuel mileage was definitely improved as I can average between 22 to 25 mpg on highway trips.
Great video! I liked it , subscribed and hit the notification bell - all the UA-cam must dos! The car is awesome and I really enjoyed the vintage commercial at the end. Keep the videos coming!
Awesome video, I especially enjoyed your night-time drive on the interstate 95 in Northern Florida, that was my favorite part! I'm from Alberta, Canada, so my dream someday would be to drive an old Cadillac across the United States and hopefully see some of your beautiful country as I'm a bit of a Cadillac fan myself! Your Grandpa's 1976 Fleetwood seems to be in fairly good shape! I notice one of your rear filler panels is missing, I hope you're able to fix that! Really enjoyed your video, thanks for posting!
that's my favorite part of the trip as well, recalling giddy feelings from when I was a lot younger (are we there yet? yes!) hope you get to take your trip soon!
beautiful, but beware of the rusting already starting along the trailing edge of the drivers side roof-I've seen some of these cars with corrosion through to the trunk. big problem with the 74-5 models
I really wish a company would come along and reproduce the squishy bumper inserts in these old Cadillacs and Lincolns. Breaks my heart to see them in great condition everywhere else with half destroyed or missing inserts that have rotted away.
An old time carburetter Mechanic could Sort out you’re starting issue. Somehow the fuels is evaporating or leaking out at the Carburettor , a Rochester Quadra jet downdraft. Some of the seals and material become porous and dryer out.
I bought a 1983 Ford Fairmont with only Thirty-One thousand miles on it and it was just as clean and it is still clean but it now has 50,000 miles on it never seen winter in its life
this fine automobile was born the year Concorde did it's first commercial flights, the year the Space Shuttle was revealed to the public, the year I was born...just good things all around
I didn’t think I’d enjoy this video as much as I did. That 76 Fleetwood is positively iconic & watching you wash her at the end was pure automotive porn! I recently acquired a 77 Coupe DeVille with 40k original miles & plan to take several road trips with her. Curious…where did you find those (proper) whitewall tires? I just had a set of 1 3/8” whitewall tires installed myself but - at a trusted friend’s suggestion - went w/ a Chinese brand cause he said the Cokers were garbage. Please keep us posted on your progress w/ her!
This was one-way, so roughly 700 miles, prevailing price at that time of $3.25/gallon, 11.4 MPG making 61 gallons necessary - just under $200.00. For context's sake - the 1976 average gasoline price in the U.S. was $0.59/gallon, so when the car was new the trip would have cost just under $40.00 (in 1976 dollars.)
You forgot to put in Fuel Cleaner, would have cleaned out everything in the carb. And you should have floored it a couple of times, to clear out the cobwebs !!!
true miles, though she is not ready for amelia concours and never will be. rough storage situation circa 1990 took its toll underhood, and time/sun is not a friend to the interior plastics
On my Cadillacs when that happens I always know it's the fuel pump the ethanol gas is destroyed the rubber diaphragm. It happens so often that I keep a spare fuel pump in the trunk and I only run non-ethanol gas now and it stopped happening. It's the ethanol enhanced gasoline it hates old cars it rusts out the fuel system. Yeah it's lately it's only 30 cents more a gallon. And it's worth it to not have to crawl under the car and replace that fuel pump I keep the new one in the trunk cuz it just happened so frequently. It also eats the float in the gas tank which tells you how much you got. Ever since I stopped running the gas they sell everybody else for their plastic cars and only use the non-ethanol fuel sold a lot for boats. The cars reliability came back never a fuel system problem again.

That's a good thing to hear Ted oliver

so true. "cadillac, cadillac, cadillac style" as they said in the late 1980s
Super sweeet, I love the 74-76 fleetwood, sedan DeVille and coupe DeVilles. They are my favorite caddie body style. I prefer the 74 the most as they are the last year with round headlights
'74 is very special, one-year only headlights and dash

What a beautiful Cadillac.
I had a 1974 Coupe Deville with 32k original miles. Triple black. She LIVED for road trips. The 500 V8 was thirrrrrsty- but still held her own
Grandad’s Fleetwood. Weds paint correction and a good wax! ❤

Definite weakness, every vinyl top car will have to have the top removed for repair at some point.
I really wish a company would come along and reproduce the squishy bumper inserts in these old Cadillacs and Lincolns. Breaks my heart to see them in great condition everywhere else with half destroyed or missing inserts that have rotted away.

Definitely. I have a rebuild kit, this would be the second I've done (first was a 4MV for a Chevrolet 454.)

Where'd you find the wide whitewalls for that?
they are American Classics, available from places like Coker Tire, in Hemmings and on sites like eBay

Your grandpa had good taste in cars.
he sure did! this was the last of a succession of big olds, buicks, couple of cadillacs at the end
Would like to know what it cost you in Gas round trip
This was one-way, so roughly 700 miles, prevailing price at that time of $3.25/gallon, 11.4 MPG making 61 gallons necessary - just under $200.00. I would have sprayed carburetor cleaner in there probably in addition to starting fluid.
5:27 is my biggest fear if I took my 84 out for a road trip, a real hot stopper moment.
a key IMO is to build a stop or two into the itinerary so you can recover in the event of a mild obstacle. what flavor is your '84?
