Hello man, I think your videos are most informative that any other related to rd28. Many thanks for useful info for this turbo and last video for boost compensator. In my case I have a problems with turbo - it spools way to late and I can reach max. only 0.75 bar of boost. The config is RD28 with mechanical pump, manual gearbox, 11mm plunger, GQ turbo, GU intake and intercooler. Tried to play around with boost compensator and actuator shaft shortening as you described, but didnt reach any bigger boost. Maybe some ideas you have?
If you set it for fuel to come in at full throttle in low/no boost you can kickstart the turbo and get it to spool up earlier. Thanks mate i do hope all the information is helpful to people!
@@ebayenthusiast42that was more than useful, it was almost service manual how and why this compensator works. After proper settings there was significant improve in uphill driving, and it pulls much better in lover rpm. Greetings from Kazakhstan by the way!
@@ebayenthusiast42 yep non intercooled, still 9mm pump and factory garrett. I was researching core upgrades for the Tb and had to search for actual part numbers to find out, they came on other stuff but only 1 year on the RD patrol. The Tb also had a 2550 variant from a Benz I think
Hey mate have you ever had any issues with the low range 4wd bc my front wheels don’t get much torque or spin when off road have done new diff centre axels and swivel hubs + new locking hubs any ideas ?
the only direct bolt on turbo that will fit without change is anothger GT1752s. they make some with a billet compressor wheel (turbochargers australia) was the brand i ran. aparently the cct ones arent good. they will work but if you run more than 17psi they will just be inefficient but still work.
Since the laurel is a good bit lighter than the patrol you could go with a larger size turbo as the car wont be as sluggish out of boost. People like the holsets but a gt2860 would probably be pretty good. It all depends on your injector pump setup as a stockie 9mm wont give you any guts down low and a 12mm will let you spool even a hx40.
@@ebayenthusiast42 thank you for that information and do you offer parts to people I've been looking for a exhaust manifold here in the states with no success, I would only be looking for a stock rd28t manifold and what ever part you recommend for my mechanical injection pump
@@riggedupgarage4967 locating the plunger for the injector pump is easiest to do with a donor pump, gives you all the parts you need. There should be RD28T manifolds around on ebay and the sort. What country are you based in?
Interesting video mate. I got a 96 gq 2.8 with turbo. What would be a safe boost increase. I don't want go silly. It all stock, I'm the second owner. 320k. I had the pump rebuild in 2020 as it was leaking. Turbo looks really oily, wet black look. I don't even know if it working. I use to just be able hear it on a quiet day. Do U think he221w would help? Cheers Graham
the he221 is definitly a good upgrade. that being said it all depends on your plan with the car. considering all the fabrication required to get it working it may be a better option to fit a reconditioned stock turbo as it will bolt straight on. as for as boost goes the GQ turbos arent huge fans of running more than 17psi. the turbos usually weep oil out from the cartridge flange gaskets pretty normal.
i should make an update video. it runs real well. i have the 6cm rear housing which is fairly similar to the stock turbo as far as turbo lag goes. if oy are thinking abou the holset id go for the 5.5cm rear housing one as it would be quicker on boost and would be nowhere near its end of efficiency even at 30psi of boost.

@@matiaslatapiat7152 the manifolds are Pretty much completely different in every way there isnt really any feasible setup that you could use RB manifolds on an RD28 head
@@matiaslatapiat7152 yes the RB series head will fit on an RD block i believe you need to open up one of the head oil ports so it will flow. It will only work as a petrol engine as you won't be able to get a high enough compression ratio for diesel coupled with modifying the head to accommodate injectors into the spark plug holes. There is a video of somebody who has done it but that system is high pressure commonrail injection and you can see it is running pretty wonky without boost at idle.
Dude, the info in this video shits on any other video ive watched on similar topics. Good job.

Fun fact, the 97 gq RD's had a tb2533, not the 27. Only for the 97's
thats news to me! still non intercooled?

Have you looked at the transfer case? Only other things i could think is you have a different diff ratio in the back.

Any suggestions for a bolt-on part?
