So naming convention regarding Vesper. The name usually means dusk/evening and is another word for the Evenstar I.E. Venus. It could tie to The House of Dusk it could have something to do with another connection, being Ishtar (I.E. The Collective) as Ishtar is on Venus. But this is just musing.

You know in theory it might be a way into the distributary location is roughly right and because of the house wolves, it stands to reason there are eliksni that might know of it one way or another. Imagine fikrul entering there with the power of a echo
the idea of there being a vex element to this, makes me think that there is a chance that maya could be lurking in the background or something, obviously not in a major role as Fikrul is the major antagonist for the episode's main story
Well... As far as I can see, "Vesper" is a name of some ship or a facility 'cause in our official localisation, ve have the dungeon under the name of "Visiting the "Vesper" (like in context of guest and host) ".
@@rocablade6908 it's actually a reference to the calarts animation alumni's class room number. It's a common thing that has been done since the early nineties, seen in early Simpsons constantly on licence plates etc. Which makes sense since Brad Bird was a creative consultant on the show, so it slowly became a tradition!
So crazy theory here this might be an attempt of the nine to finally gain physical bodies that would explain the host part and vesper could relate to the nine being hidden/made of DARK matter/ secretive/ a shadow of us all things that are close in meaning to night/ dusk. Also to me this looks a lot like warmind tech/energy with a vex and resonance kick to it. So perhaps this is indeed sol divisive vex as they have darkness powers and the warmind comes from it being most likely most sort of research station.I think it might be something to do with the sol divisive evolving after the witnesses death and picking up powers from it (like the echo) and they decided to run experiements and tests with these new powers. As to why they did it here perhaps there is something hidden here that they got from the Witness's memories OR it could be a result of the information they gathered from the ares spire as there could have been heaps of data on golden age tech there. Another explanation could be them trying to adapt to maya sundareshes recent actions and this could be a way of doing that.
I was just thinking about characters we haven’t seen in awhile. I don’t know about a big reveal for a new villain but I thing we’re going to see Eramis back as a Scorn.
Some people are saying it looks like that strange ring in the Dreaming City skybox, and considering it's a Scorn episode and they literally said Fikrul is holed up in an Awoken watchtower (i dont remember if they said it was in the DC), thats not too much of a stretch. I've always wondered what that thing was. Maybe now we'll find out.
You're also missing one further definition of the word 'host', and that is a large group of beings. As an example, "A host of orcs", would be a large gathering or of an army of orcs. So 'host' could be being used in that fashion. I think you're right though as the things you brought together form a compelling hypothesis.
I believe this portal is kinda vex technology obviously but corrupted by darkness. The architecture of the portal itself reminds me a little bit of salvations edge raid and the energy inside is a mix of vex and darkness. Maybe it's an experiment of Bray's facility or something.
I'm sorry.... LoreDaddy's Lullaby? This thing better send me into a state of calm euphoria where EVERY. SOUND. is narrated by your voice or I want my money back.
I've slowly been tapping out of destiny and even the lore, despite being extremely into the lore for a very long time and this is the first video I've watched in maybe a few months on destiny lore? you're absolutely doing some heavy lifting for bungie cause I didn't think I was interested in what bungie had in store for episodes but now I'm atleast interested where this portal....gateway...thing goes, if it's finally something to do with the nine for the first time in a long time I'll stay interested and if it's something equally interesting and new I'm staying for probably alot longer even in the state destiny is in right now I truly do appreciate that you're still doing these and continue to dive into these mysteries and ask these questions in the way you do
If this is all true, I can see how all three episodes might connect. They tell the story of discovering old Golden Age tech that allows us to catapult ourselves through the cosmos to wherever Frontiers takes place. Echoes brought us Maya and the research the Ishtar collective did with the Vex in the Golden Age, which lead to the Cocytus Apetures in Revenant and their ability to transport to unknown reaches of the universe, and the Dreadnaught in Heresy we use as the vessel to traverse that portal.
A simpler explanation for the name is a host server for something called vesper, maybe a rogue ai? Maybe the electricity are arc explosions linked to vesper of radius?
The name A113 is a reference to the room where many animators for Pixar learned graphic design and character animation at college, which seems like a weird reference for bungie to make. Call me crazy but it might be a meta-reference by the Dead Orbit crew, as the cocytus apertures seems to be a gateway between realities based on who controls it, effectively making the one who controls it the architect of a new reality. Essentially if this is the cocytus apertures then whomever is in control of it should have the power to create and conjure almost anything into our reality from another, similar to how an artist creates stories. Definitely a stretch but the reference seems too specific to be just an inside joke.
In a religious context, it might refer to the evening service (vesper) and the congregation or participants (host). So the Scorn could be partaking in some type of ritual to worship something? Also, Vesper could be an entity and the Scorn could be seen as parasitic hosts or vise versa? “Vesper’s host” could mean the host (someone who entertains guests) belongs to or is associated with Vesper. For example, if Vesper is a character in a story, “Vesper’s host” could refer to someone who is hosting Vesper. So who is hosting or entertaining Vesper? Vesper in Latin, Greek, and PIE means evening and night so... Maybe this portal leads to the darkness or it leads to the realm of the Winnower, and were the host. The darkness subclass? Maybe this is a portal to a prison for the host of Vesper. The host to the night, the darkness, but that would be like the witness or some other dark entity.
Another reason that backs up the idea of it being Cocytus is that this year of episodes is meant to tie up leftover story threads and Cocytus represents one of the largest remaining untouched plot lines
I'll just throw something out with Halloween around the corner. Vex being unable to really connect to paracausality, instead of destroying, they experimented with using the mindless husks of Scorn as zombie vessels to control like puppets. Paracausal scorn puppet Vex zombies for Halloween time =D
while i do believe your interpretation of the word "host" is most accurate, there's also the second meaning, "a large amount of" such as "a whole host of people". Vesper's Host could be in reference to a group of some sort
Here's my thought on Meaning & Plot of VESPER'S HOST: Fikrul installed an High-Rank-Member of his Scorn as some "Priest" or a "Binder" of Eliksni from different Houses. Trailer showed he's raising an Army with even Members from House LIGHT (which I believe are unvoluntarily absorbed into his new House). Maybe the Echo gives Fikrul "manipulative/ enchanting" Powers which he uses to lure in Eliksni or can transfer to others of his Faction. So the Host of this Vesper = a sort of "Recruiter" for Fikrul's new House: House Blood(?), who is hosting this "Baptism in Darkness" We're going to get send in, interrupting his new influx of Eliksni and stop them from being futher thinned out. - Orders from Mithrax
I'm open to being wrong, but I don't think this is Cocytus A113. Cocytus A113 is suppose to be a derelict scientific research station that has a portal of some sort IN IT. I'm pretty sure that if the portal in question were a giant Vex gate that's floating around OUTSIDE the station it wouldn't line up properly with the lore. Unfortunately Bungie does like to retcon things, so who knows.
Vesper’s Host is probably the remnants of the Almighty. Vesper in literary terms means “Venus as the Evening Star”. Host meanwhile, when speaking about data, is to store. When we think of Venus, we think of the Vex; and with the collision course the Almighty was heading towards Earth way back when in Season of the Worthy, its not impossible to assume that it entered Venus’ orbit or is somewhere in proximity to the planet. However, I don’t think that the Vex that would be in this Dungeon are from Venus. I think they’re from Mercury. In the Red War campaign, the Red Legion used the Almighty to essentially devour Mercury to destroy our sun. Knowing the Mercury was/is a world that hosted the Vex for billions of years, it’s not impossible to assume that maybe some of what the Almighty sucked into from the planet were the Vex itself. Vex that somehow managed to survive the Almighty’s destruction by Rasputin and are know doing to it what they had done to Nessus, Venus, and parts of Mars. They probably won’t be the only threat though. The Shadow Legion are broken; now working with Fikral because he has one of the strongest artifacts in the system. It’s not unlikely that members of their ranks had been defectors of the Red Legion after Ghaul’s defeat and Calus’ Leviathan coming into our system. They may know that the technology is valuable if it can be salvaged; thus Fikral sent them and some Scorn to get what they can to attempt to use the technology to blast the Last City in retaliation for what they did to the other Barons. The Vex may be of a similar goal. They may have managed to get the Almighty to a functioning state; or a partial state. Who knows? Again, all just a thought.
Remember the font of the dungeon name matter such as ghost of the deep and warlords ruin. Their font relate to their themes. This font looks like a transmission being warped , which ties into that portal aspect.
Byf, we may be stepping out of the light of the day. Things are just going to get darker from here.... "Vesper", according to what I've found, means "evening bells", and synonymous with evening bells seems to be an "evening star", a celestial body that shows up at or after sunset. I.... Cannot say I like the implications of it.
One thing that I've noticed missed was another somewhat archaic meaning for 'Host' - Army or Large Group. Such as assembling a great host to besiege a city, or the proverbial heavenly host. Given that the art screams Vex Gateway, we might be trying to stop yet another invasion.
I have a theory that the dungeon is going to be about praedyth returning. Since we had his named dropped randomly in Polyphony lore and he hasn't been mentioned in a while. His existence itself is a paradox just like how saint 14 is. Also the fact that it says "Tell Elsie Praedyth Is Still..." It cuts off but it probably says alive since it fits too well. He had elsies rifle on him when found him "dead". The fact that Elsie and Praedyth new eachother also is really interesting. On a different note about praedyth. Since he was the original paradox maybe the one we hear and help in the misson from d1 is one from a different timeline just like Saint-14 is in d2. He even talks to us specifically in the alternative part of the mission meaning he knows of our players existence.
Technically he cannot come back as he accidently wished for the fight to never end via ahamkara. Meaning he's stuck forever. He is apparently with the FWC. I can't remember it this is true but if you get erased in the vault doesn't that mean all versions of you don't exist
@@tbcomics7515 when you get erased your name and the memories of you are forgotten to time but the person themselves remain. Ikora mention in the d1 mission that she heard about him but thought he didn't exist. We also got lore in shadowkeep that talks about praedyth and the 200 clones of istrar collective trying to escape. So hes still around just trapped in a prison cell the vex made him.
One other thing I found interesting. Vesper is the god of Venus in dusk/darkness, evening star. His brother is Lucifer, bearer of light, god of Venus in dawn/light, morning star. Could be totally coincidental, but fun bit of information I came across.
With Sundaresh making more independent Vex, that may be an opening for Clovis to escape Europa. He'd be one to definitely restart his scientific experiments on the Vex
Vesper is also a name for the planet Venus. I think this is going to be a Vex/Scorn dungeon where the Scorn hijacked a Vex gate and made an incursion seeking to gain Maya Sundaresh’s echo to add to Fikrul’s so he can wield greater influence over the dread and the Darkness. The name Vesper’s Host refers to the fact that the Scorn are encroaching on the part of the Vex network that is hosting simulations of Venus where Maya may be. If I recall my time from Destiny 1 correctly, the penultimate area in Encore was very reminiscent of a part of Venus’ patrol area.
A strange idea I’ve had upon seeing the Braytech architecture is that Atraaks-1 could be present in the dungeon, granted the theory of her surviving the Deep Stone Crypt is true House Salvation has been known to work with Scorn, as with Praxis in
It's interesting that you mentioned the morning star station, as theres a definition of vesper that you missed. Vesper can also mean the evening star. Also both the morning and evening star can relate to Venus
it might just be connected in someway to resonance cause those glowing orange lines on the outer circular structure and the surface material itself are very reminiscent of pyramid tech. the orange sparkle/electricity like thingies can also be seen near Rhulk's upended (around where the worm god is suspended) in VotD.
The first thing I thought of when I saw it, was the forge star (volantis?) on the other end of the portal on Europa. It could be a sun in the middle of the rings- being used to create more vex
The visuals of the weird orange energy really remind me of that energy Xita was pouring into the Upended. More yellow-ish than that, but it's the closest thing I can think of.
I think the idea of the Scorn being heavily present in Vespers Host is something of a given but the idea of the Cocytus Apertures has definitely got my brain spinning. In Greek mythology Cocytus is one of the rivers which encircles the underworld, Hades. So if we're to use Greek mythology as a base for the theory crafting we may need to find and secure our "ferry" to pass through the portal to find the Vespers Host.
Another thing to note: the font of Vesper's Host is very Splicer themed. Considering the name of the required quest, Rogue Network, we're probably going to have some Splicer elements to it.
It's obviously just a giant strange coin that we have to go collect for Xury dearest.

I find it hard to believe that the "but hold on" at 4:59 right with a cut to the Vex butthole is anything but intentional (but hold on = butt holed on)
Wanted to see if someone said it before I comment lol I think it was intentional
holy crap if it does turn out like what you have layed out in this video Byf then Destiny is going to be even more awesome
You know in theory it might be a way into the distributary location is roughly right and because of the house wolves, it stands to reason there are eliksni that might know of it one way or another. Imagine fikrul entering there with the power of a echo
The definition of dusk for Vesper makes me think house of dusk. There are also 3 purple House of dusk symbols on the structure
the idea of there being a vex element to this, makes me think that there is a chance that maya could be lurking in the background or something, obviously not in a major role as Fikrul is the major antagonist for the episode's main story
Yeah maybe Maya’s disruption on Nessus caused the opportunity for the scorn/fallen to the takeover over the structure.
Well... As far as I can see, "Vesper" is a name of some ship or a facility 'cause in our official localisation, ve have the dungeon under the name of "Visiting the "Vesper" (like in context of guest and host) ".
I feel this dungeon could be a tease to a larger future..
Fun fact, the A113 in the Dust lore book is most likely a reference to Pixar Studios
I talked about this on TwitterX but no one seemed to get it lol
@@rocablade6908 it's actually a reference to the calarts animation alumni's class room number. It's a common thing that has been done since the early nineties, seen in early Simpsons constantly on licence plates etc. Which makes sense since Brad Bird was a creative consultant on the show, so it slowly became a tradition!
I'd love to visit cocytus
God I've never been so hyped for a name drop from Byf, hearing that possibility about the Cocytus Aperture just made me so happy
The strings holding up the thing, look like symbiote webs. Could be egrigore , and if Fickral is trying to scornafy the dread that would be awsome
I believe this portal is kinda vex technology obviously but corrupted by darkness. The architecture of the portal itself reminds me a little bit of salvations edge raid and the energy inside is a mix of vex and darkness. Maybe it's an experiment of Bray's facility or something.
13:34 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ my slow self thought we were getting an overlord tie in for a second…but the giant ice beetle spells his name different
I'm sorry.... LoreDaddy's Lullaby? This thing better send me into a state of calm euphoria where EVERY. SOUND. is narrated by your voice or I want my money back.
I've slowly been tapping out of destiny and even the lore, despite being extremely into the lore for a very long time and this is the first video I've watched in maybe a few months on destiny lore? you're absolutely doing some heavy lifting for bungie cause I didn't think I was interested in what bungie had in store for episodes but now I'm atleast interested where this portal....gateway...thing goes, if it's finally something to do with the nine for the first time in a long time I'll stay interested and if it's something equally interesting and new I'm staying for probably alot longer
even in the state destiny is in right now I truly do appreciate that you're still doing these and continue to dive into these mysteries and ask these questions in the way you do
Bro this is some DEEP lore, never heard about anything related to the Cocytus Apertures
Straight away, the first of the Scorn looking Edgier than normal.
There’s also the military definition of host: “an armed expedition against an enemy”
Vesper is also a type of bat. Seems relevant, given that Fikrul is clearly going for something of a vampire theme.
Vesper is a name of a lot of different animals. But with the episodes theme you may be onto something. Or at least it has a double meaning
Well, the idea that we're returning to the Tangled Shore is certainly intriguing.
WE'RE MAKING IT TO COCYTUS WITH THIS ONE BOYS
Wasn't there something about the old Factions being somehow involved in the episodes? Maya has ties to FWC. Cocytus has ties to Dead Orbit.
There's also an older usage of the word "host". Essentially, "army".
Cocytus is also a lake in Dante's Inferno, in the middle of which the Lucifer is being imprisoned. Could that be a better reference to Vesper?
Idk, probably the Vesper? I mean, the dungeon *is* called Vesper's Host. Dunno what this Vesper thing is, but maybe we'll find out soon.
If 'Vesper of Radius' doesn't have a secret interaction in this activity then I'll be disappointed.
I doubt that it can be all resolved in one dungeon tho, maybe it's just introducing things from lore to the game to use later
I think it’s worth noting that a host can also be an army
I'll just throw something out with Halloween around the corner. Vex being unable to really connect to paracausality, instead of destroying, they experimented with using the mindless husks of Scorn as zombie vessels to control like puppets. Paracausal scorn puppet Vex zombies for Halloween time =D
This is a really neat idea
while i do believe your interpretation of the word "host" is most accurate, there's also the second meaning, "a large amount of"
such as "a whole host of people". Vesper's Host could be in reference to a group of some sort
My guess. Vesper is the name of the Echo for the season as the Echo of Command has a relation with Maya?
Dont forget about the entity that lying dormant deep in the vex network that not even an echo couldn't stir its interest
where did you read this from?
Here's my thought on Meaning & Plot of VESPER'S HOST:
Fikrul installed an High-Rank-Member of his Scorn
as some "Priest" or a "Binder" of Eliksni from different Houses.
Trailer showed he's raising an Army with even Members from House LIGHT
(which I believe are unvoluntarily absorbed into his new House).
Maybe the Echo gives Fikrul "manipulative/ enchanting" Powers which he uses to lure in Eliksni or
can transfer to others of his Faction.
So the Host of this Vesper = a sort of "Recruiter" for Fikrul's new House: House Blood(?),
who is hosting this "Baptism in Darkness"
We're going to get send in, interrupting his new influx of Eliksni and stop them from
being futher thinned out. - Orders from Mithrax
I do think it's the Opposite side of the Glassway. The Golden Age Tech, The Fallen Wiring, The Vex stuffs...
Who knows
I'm open to being wrong, but I don't think this is Cocytus A113. Cocytus A113 is suppose to be a derelict scientific research station that has a portal of some sort IN IT. I'm pretty sure that if the portal in question were a giant Vex gate that's floating around OUTSIDE the station it wouldn't line up properly with the lore. Unfortunately Bungie does like to retcon things, so who knows.
the energy looks kind of like the Rasputin javelin and construct energy
Who knows?
Again, all just a thought.
my first thought was vesper of radius so maybe there’s something to do with that chest piece (i’m just taking a wild guess)
"Is 'IT' Inside?"
;)
Surprise, it's that one Thrall that Savathun put in a black hole
I immediately thought of Volantis when I saw the braytech architecture. Would make sense, but Cocytus also makes a ton of sense
Vesper is also the Roman equivalent of Hesperus, the Greek name given to the planet Venus at sunset. Maybe the dungeon will take place on Venus?
One thing that I've noticed missed was another somewhat archaic meaning for 'Host' - Army or Large Group. Such as assembling a great host to besiege a city, or the proverbial heavenly host. Given that the art screams Vex Gateway, we might be trying to stop yet another invasion.
Vesper = Failsafe's evil sister?
Not nights host but maybe Venus host, Astronomers named the second planet Venus vesper instead of Lucifer, don’t ask why it was called that.
It all reminds me of this little known movie back in the 90’s called “EVENT HORIZON”. It seems like this takes some inspiration from it.
What about this having to do with pulling the un-worm from the vex net?
A strange idea I’ve had upon seeing the Braytech architecture is that Atraaks-1 could be present in the dungeon, granted the theory of her surviving the Deep Stone Crypt is true
House Salvation has been known to work with Scorn, as with Praxis in
It's interesting that you mentioned the morning star station, as theres a definition of vesper that you missed.
"Host" can also pertain to the thing a parasite has latched on to in order to survive/live.
I wonder if that changes how things shake out
Splicers getting a hold of Vex sounds like a great idea for a dungeon
Taniks will be reborn as a vex via Mya Sunderesh but you won’t be able to kill him because he “will get away” to set up the next episode.
Looks like the Death Star and we have to fly in and bomb it
Thats a unique thumbnail for what byf normally has
Another thing to note: the font of Vesper's Host is very Splicer themed. Considering the name of the required quest, Rogue Network, we're probably going to have some Splicer elements to it.
