Absolutely beautiful Dan thanks for the evening highlights
It's hard to tell the exact species from this short clip, but I think the most likely candidate is Synodontis nigrita. It's one of the more common species and it comes in various colors. A somewhat similar looking species would be S. robbianus, but those are more darkly colored (mine is almost black) with a brownish belly and they don't grow quite as big.
Still a cool looking little chonker. The red eyes on that blue discus tho 😮
Your discus are feisty & happy. 😊
Seen this exact mystery syndontis on occasion before, think they were also sold as either Synodontis Nigrita or Lace Catfish
I believe you might be right.
All fish / colors are so beautiful 😻
Are you still keeping the discus at 80 degrees and 40 to 90 nitrates with not that many water changes?
Yes, they've been kept like all my other fish since I got them about two years ago.
@@DanHiteshew-oneandonly Very nice. I got 1 discus for very cheap, $16 dollars, to see if what the say is true. I found out like you, that it's very easy to keep with my normal fish. Hell even German blue rams are harder. My TDS is over 500 from the tap, GH is over 350, temp is 82 degrees and the discus seems to be doing well. I do water changes normally every 1 to 2 weeks. Nirates around 40 to 100. They are very hardy fish. Seems like the only hard part is getting them to switch from brine shrimp to flake or pellets. That took me around 2 weeks.
I'm setting up a 220-gallon tank with a really nice trigger overflow sump, I'm really good about looking after my parameters but my nitrates always seem to hover around 40ppm! I keep my temperature at 80 I can go up higher! How hard would it be for me to raise Discuss fish? I have turquoise rainbows, Madagascar rainbows, Dwarf neon Rainbows, Glowfish Tetras, and Congo Tetras! I also have a planted tank with easy plants no C02.
If you can keep rainbows or angelfish, you can keep discus. The nitrate doesn't harm fish.
🔥
It also goes by upside down catfish in some variation like the Squeaker
Why did it take you so long to notice? I don't know much about catfish
I don't see it very much.
I didn't get a great look at it there, but from the outline posable, it's a Synodontis Batensoda, perhaps 🤔
Mabey it could be a hybrid of some sort?
Looks like it’s thriving though 👍
Scratch that Think Synodontis Robbianus matches the rounded stout dorsal better and overall body shape..
Mine either doesn't have spots, or they're very faint.
@DanHiteshew-oneandonly It is possible. They seem to get faint as they mature, and some individuals I've seen don't seem to have any 🤔
