Your color test pages are practically paintings in their own right! We think upgrading from hair spray was a good move, too. Thanks for a glimpse at the grounds around your home that inspire you. Your kitchen is so charming! (But now our stomachs are growling) These videos truly show how making art can bring joy to life!
Blick, I'm so glad to have you here in this community - it's fun to see what you think of the videos! I LOVE color swatching and color charts :). And yes to the fixative upgrade - I got rid of my hairspray!
I know “blue light” is not good before retiring for the night however your sweet personality, kind heart, and soothing voice is all worth watching. I try to watch you every or every other night. Thanks Sandi. Sherri Huddleston
What’s more fun than new art supplies?? Except using them! Thank you for sharing!! Your videos are motivating to me and of course enjoyable!! Hope you have another lovely week!
This was a great video! I loved your painting, so much texture, and the colors were so cool. I really enjoyed watching you do the swatches, and all those beautiful blues and green just caught my eye. I have never tried pastels, ever. You have just inspired me to give it a go. I also really liked the way you edited this video, it was soothing. I was waiting all day for you to come on. Loved it all!! I was a little down today, so thank you for making my day!! 😉🤗
I've learned a lot about being a looser painter by watching your videos. I really appreciate your approach to art and the way your mind works about it, thank you
The painting is beautiful, and those fields are exactly what I have been enjoying all summer long. The wild flowers in my area have been amazing this year.
I see pure joy in your field study. You might want to experiment with Clairefontaine Pastelmat paper. Made for pastels, but it can take wet and mixed media. For an underpainting, I use some sort of wet media, or pastel washed with 70% alcohol (dries quicker than water)... and then use my soft pastels on top. It comes in different colors, but I like white, and it has a soft feel to it. It's a bit pricey, but worth trying if you are using soft pastels. Instead of single sheets, I buy the pads.
Love the landscape your created.. you and Grady make me smile every time you guys are together 🥰. I have yet to purchase pastels due to the “dust” it creates. Maybe one day then I can look back and decide what to buy because you’ve done all the testing ! Thank you in advance..
So that was a delicious video. Some out and about inspiration, some pep talk for when your muse is missing, some new product share, and a lovely painting. Thanks Sandi! I was so sad when you stopped your still life’s but I’m loving how your landscapes have evolved. Love!
Such beautiful grounds. So much inspiration for endless paintings. Reminds me of Claude Monet and his garden of which he spent years working on the Lilly pond.
new subscriber and literally obsessed! Your art process and just abstract art in general really steers me away from perfection and to create art to create. and I really love that because my 2022 goal was to have a more daily creative process and really have an "artist" daily life and your videos inspire me to create even if it's "shitty art" in my eyes. Even if the year almost over and I'm finally getting what having a "creative art life" actually looks like on the daily and not just creating to complete a finished piece
I caught myself sooooo many times wanting to tap the screen looking for a heart thinking I was watching an Instagram story! Haha I’ll be tapping those links for sure! Thank you for sharing your finds! Love the painting!! XO
Great video Sandi, because of you I started painting with oil pastels and I’m having a lot of fun with them. I Love the painting and all the colors you use and all the layering you do..love it.
Hi guys, great video. Love the new materials, especially the graphite pen/pencils...also liked the mustard colour you put on your picture at the end, it popped out to me....have a good week lovelies 😊
Those pastel test pages were delicious! And what a gorgeous landscape painting. I love capturing the foreground brush/weeds/etc. in my photos/sketches. Just adds such a lovely texture. You really nailed the texture in that painting. Nothing relaxes me the way your videos do. 💚😊
I have to say I love the way you do your swatches, it's actually my preferred method as well! The tidy boxes or stripes I see so frequently (for swatching) always seems like it doesn't give a good sense of any given medium's capability, and how it'll play in general or together. Especially when one works mixed! So vibrant and exciting to see. You've been one of my favorites for awhile now, I'm just comment-shy, haha.
I could watch you paint and swatch all day! I could just listen to you explain and talk art supplies all day too! You and Grady are great together! Breakfast for dinner is the best! I think I'm going to order some Blick pastels to see if it's something I enjoy.
Your painting is so beautiful. I love it when at first when not really feeling it turns into, I love it! Also, very cool about the Blick pastels makes me want to give them a try!
I can’t do swatches :) I know I won’t use them anyway. I loved that little weed and flower warm up so much. Thank you so much for being such a inspiration :)
I saw that roll of pastels and my immediate reaction was, "Cool! Sandi got a BOOMERANG!" Then my secondary reaction was, "woah. that would be bad." (I am the duchess of clumsiness so I think I was projecting) But now, of course, I have to move those graphite bars up my list. I adore a chunky drawing tool too! Thanks for taking us along into the fields! That painting was AWESOME!
The art content, absolutely premium, absolutely lovely as always ❤️ but this time I especially wanted to thank you for including the auctioning off the car brush for 20$ 😂 you both radiate love and joy and it just makes my heart happy to see two lovely people together ❤️ ps. Big yes to the blue (glasses) frames, very cute!
I love the landscape painting. I will be signing up for your landscape class for sure! I have Unison and Terry Ludwig pastels and was just saying how I need to add some blues to my collection! thanks so much..oh hope Cooper is good.
Haven't seen Cooper lately. I hope all is well with your little buddy. BTW, those graphite sticks come in a water soluble version as well. They are fun!
I've been camping and we've just had the first week of school for the kids. I haven't done any art for three weeks and now I'm itching to go swatch stuff! Your greens are gorgeous 💚 tell Grady twenty bucks over dishes anytime 😉
I call pastels the gateway pigment. 😄 the colors, the texture, the immediate impact - totally hooked!! Pastels are swoon worthy and helped me understand my other pigment bases. 💃🏻
I love graphite sticks. My favourite is Lyra’s water soluble in 9B. Super black when you add water. It’s hard to tell but those sticks look a bit big for a clutch pencil holder. I’ve been hankering for one too and actually looked at some today.
Hi Sandi, another great video, thanks! Just an FYI on your 2 Spectrafix fixative, you are likely aware that you bought 2 different ones, but wanted to let you know just in case as they may act differently. (it may not make a difference depending how you use it). The smaller one you bought is their "regular" fixative and the one in the larger spray bottle is their new "final" fixative, they are marketing it as a potential replacement for having to frame soft pastels under glass. I have not tried it. Thanks for your great sense of humour and colourful videos!
What’s even cooler about those graphite sticks is that they are water soluble 😍 great for black and white value studies. I have the Lyra brand and I’m in love.
May I just say this: your landscapes are becoming something I want to roll in! They are so inviting to simply be and enjoy in every single way. No matter how I feel, your landscapes make me happy, and that says a lot because I rarely feel that way when looking at a work of art. When you’re an artist, art teacher, and an avid student of art history you tend to form a ridiculous critical eye that makes it hard to simply enjoy a work of art. Somehow, your work manages to free my eye from its constant critiquing and allows me to take it all in with gusto. I need to send you something I’ve been holding onto for a while. If your mailing address is something you would be willing to share I would like to send it to you.

Almost always
Lyra graphite sticks also come in a 6B and 9B. Lyra also makes the graphite sticks that are water-soluble from 2B to 9B; so much fun! Oh, I thought you might like to know that on the graphite scale the lead gets darker as the number increases; so a 4B would be lighter in value than the 9B, which is the darkest one. 😉 🥰
