I found your channel a few of days ago. I have been having significant health issues and have been in a dry spell artistically. I can't tell you how much you have inapired me. I watched your video about creating art when you are sick. I had ordered one of the sketchbooks you recommended and sat and made swatches of my oil pastels. That's all I had the energy for yesterday, but just that small creative task filled my heart so much. Thank you for being a shining light.
I LOVE that Grady wants to collect your creek painting. Sweetest thing ever. One good thing about being in the binge-watching phase of catching up with your channel is that I don't have to wait two weeks for the next video.😉
Hey, I’m a firm believer in breaks! And it doesn’t appear that it really is… just a break to do something else!.. from the normal “ “ So I sat down all prepared to paint an abstract piece. The very first thing in my head was “OK little Sandi… here we go..”. 😆🤣 I actually laughed out loud!! Thanks so much for the fun energy you bring to me. And l look forward to more of you❣️❤️🤗
Dear Sandi I put most of my brushes on the top of a timber drink cart trolley with old wheels. I buy handmade ceramic jars and vessels, old stoneware mugs from op shops. Works well. Underneath, on the other level, are all my working journals, put into vertically like a bookcase on wheels. I use bamboo boxes, so they don't fall sideways. I can then move to work on either table in my studio. You could do that for your paint, brushes and sketchbooks too.. In kindred spirit, Eliza Sydney Australia xx Sunday 27th of March, 2022 10:08pm
Don't take offense- But Your excitement over brushes and paints is like Agnes of the Minions! She loves all things fluffy! I love it how excited you are with new products and tools! You inspire with excitement, especially with the lower grade tools that fit your style. Yay!
As a professional artist (you I mean) I love that you get so excited about "economy" brushes. I also love it when Coop and the puds make an appearance xxx
I've been listening to the podcast and heard you mention that you and Grady have spoken about doing some books that would include your sketchbooks. I thought I would put in my vote ... please do some books. I want them!! x
Cats love to get in the shady or dark closed-in spaces. They often look a bit offended when you find them… Like hey, “this is my private space and I didn’t invite you in.”😆
You had me laughing so hard when you sent Grady the invoice. Sad you will be taking a break, but totally understand that it is needed. Can't wait to see what you are up to when you are back!
@Sandi Hester Sandi....you bring so much beauty, humanity and thoughtful prescence to your channel. Grady is a beautiful addition in your artwork as well as his own charateristic thoughtfulness!!!
Very fun video. You’re going to need a “she shed” separate studio before long. How sweet that Grady wanted one of your paintings! I will surely miss your videos; they are a bright sport. Enjoy the time off- allow yourself be led to still waters. ❤️
Hi, I'm sad your taking a break but we all need it from time to time. Enjoy your break, have fun and explore. Have a great two weeks off. This video was pleasant, fun and funny. 😁
You may have thought of this, or maybe not, but your huge orange doors need to be replaced with huge barn doors on a track so you can slide them to access your storage and at the same time use the doors to hang your pictures or your works in progress. That is some major real estate that needs to be used. Love you my new friend! You’ve been keeping me company for a few days.
Those Grady paintings looks so alive! Thank you for another wonderful weekend of Sandy. And don't you worry about us! Have fun with your workshop!! see you in a few weeks. I hope I'll be able to go to one of your workshops in the future.
Haven’t been able to find the time to watch your videos because they’ve gotten longer but I’m so glad I could squeeze this one in in chunks! I love seeing how your business and your literal work has grown since I first subscribed! 😁Enjoy your break!
You've consistently produced fantastic content for us all, you deserve a nice break. All the best with your workshop. Methinks a new studio is calling.
I so appreciate how your organized your studio. I have be overwhelmed by my studio and will be taking your tips into my space so I am not so wacky unorganized. Many blessings. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙌
I will miss your wonderful videos, but I hope you have a wonderful break! It warms the cockles of my heart that Grady supports your work, and that he asked you to reserve that painting. You have impeccable taste, Grady! It cracked me up that you tried to overcharge him😂. Nice try, Sandi😄. I am looking forward to your review on the Nova paints, but no rush! Enjoy your respite!
Sandi, you have been such a source of encouragement! I’m getting back into art after a long break while my kids were young. I love your joyful videos and your all amazing art!! The painting you were hanging on the wall is incredible!!
Had to watch on the TV first because I had a day from h e double toothpicks today. Then I had to come over here to like and comment. I was wondering when we were going to see a glimpse of your "remodel". I have to do that too. Ugh. Grady, perhaps it is time to build a new garage, and make the current garage the new studio. Just sayin' 😉 You two are so adorable. Thanks for helping me set my day back on track! Enjoy your well deserved time off! I will miss you tons, but look forward to hearing about the workshop, etc., and look forward to the next one that I will sign up for!!
You HAVE to let Grady have the painting! If he chose it he must really love it. Hope to see you again soon. It won’t be the same without you but have a good rest if you can.
Hope you have a wonderful and restful break. You deserve it! FYI: Plaza Art (in your area and mine and also online) sell a pro and student grade of their paints, acrylic and oils. They say they use high grade pigments in their pro grades and one of their employees told me that Williamsburg Oils (owned by Golden) makes their Plaza Art pro-grade oils. Not sure about the acrylics, but the price differences are significant. They might be worth a test sometime? But It’s hard to beat Liquitex.
I totally agree about Liquitex basics. I’ve painted with Liquitex heavy body and Golden Open, which are great. But for the money and quality the Basics are awesome!
Finally someone is teaching me how to paint Your awesome. Im working on my first landscape. So far I have a blue tree and sketching of a house and other trees. I CAN'T wait
You are such an inspiration. I was inspired to take all my mess up and make some beautiful cards that were very exciting to me. I am looking forward to working with alcohol inks and know I will have many mess up but maybe I will end up with something I love whether anybody likes it or not. You have given me the inspiration to "do my own" thing" Love your red doors. Very mysterious.
I was sad you were taking a break, but then remembered I get to see you in the workshop for the next three weeks so then I was happy again. I know from experience how important breaks can be. I hope yours is enjoyable and allows you the time to avoid burnout and tackle all the things you need to tackle. Can't wait to see and hear what you're up to!
that made me laugh Michael! I keep saying I'm taking a break but I'm actually going to be working a boat load for a project so it's not really a break unfortunately
I totally love that you were haggling with Grady about the price of your painting! So funny! I will miss you during the next couple of weeks. Enjoy the break!
Thank you for another enjoyable video. It’s great you’re taking a break. Highly important. We don’t want you to get burnout either. In the past, I’ve been burnt out. A horrible experience (especially just before I said, ‘I quit’). In my new job, same role, I’m trying to have better time management skills, but it’s a skill I’m continually trying to improve because last week I got sick 😞 but now I’m feeling a little better 🙂 I need to learn the art of saying no (but keeping relationship) and not caring what other people think of me or how they react. Self-care is key if we want to keep doing what we’re doing. Hope you enjoy your well deserved rest (which I hope is two weeks, rather than one). Before I go, I notice you buy a lot (most) of your art supplies online. I was wondering (out of curiosity), would you do a comparison (positive vs negative) about buying art supplies online vs in-store from your personal perspective. Do you find you’re more tempted to spend more money online or in-store? How do you stick to a budget? (as there are some amazing but expensive products out there) Do you have any tips for buying art supplies online? Thank you for considering this video topic request. Look forward to your return 🖌🖍✂️🛍🖼
Yeah...I just did a spring cleaning session and moving things around for better storage in my living room work area. It took me 3 days and my whole house is only about 500 square ft. Its like those puzzle games I had as a kid where you have to keep moving these tiles around and around until you can manage to get them all in numbered order. I use risers on my desk, like 2 or 3 bricks or glass bricks or anything sturdy I can sit a 6" wide plank of wood on to create a shelf. Then I can put jars of brushes or pencils on the shelf and I still have the space underneath.
Hi Sandi. did I miss something about a workshop? If you ever do any more online workshops in the future I would be very interested :-) Looks like the den needs to become the studio Sandi . have a great break!
Yay its Friday. Look so forward to watching and learning from your videos. Boo hoo you’re taking a break but nobody needs burnout ,so well have to indulge in all the amazing content you have generously provided for all of us. P,S I liked the last painting of Grady. Lol. Stay well, stay happy and keep creating. Xo
Such a fun watch as always! I adoreee the paintings of Grady, especially the sketchbook ones 😍 and Sandi you are always gorgeous, but you're extra pretty in this video. Your joy is contagious ❤️
I loved your portraits! I'm inspired to get my husband to sit for me haha. I've been using Liquitex basics for a couple of years (along with other soft & heavy body) and I really like them for the reasons you shared too. Nova is great as well, and so economical for painting big. Happy break! xo.
love what you did to my 2 favorite Grady paintings. I truly don't like seeing your videos end and was feeling that until you explained. Have a great time off and enjoy your workshop.
I just started watching and had to comment right away...the one painting of Grady with the blue background? I saw it for a split second in my feed and said, "Hey! There's Grady!" I immediately clicked through to watch. His face is def skinnier in actual life though ☺
Oh, I agree about the basics, they are great and completely compatible with the ‘better’ paints in the liquitex range. I love them, and also like them thinned down. Have just got some of the tiny jars of soft body as yet unopened, was torn between them and their acrylic gouache set which is very similar to purchase. I wonder if you could compare them, as I know you have both! I’d love to know what you think their weaknesses and strengths are…. Also I am a wheelchair user and am always looking at desk easels of various kinds as I want to go larger, I love the look of the one you are using, will it extend below the level of the desk you are using it on? I would love a ride and fall w/c but an easel that would rise and fall is a much cheaper option! Like your portraits very much and how you use colour to create depth. I like cheap bristle brushes too, but would rather use a twig than the synthetic ones.
I don’t think it comes below the desk. I love my easel and it’s listed in the description. It may say in the description if it comes lower or not or if you can modify it
Sandi, I've been enjoying your videos. I've learned so much, Thank you. Would you do a video on what you paint on. I see that you have some canvases in a frame, but then some other times I see you have canvases without a frame. Or is that paper? Thank you
I do paint on canvas and paper. I’m actually working on a class now that will be available for purchase soon on my website that will cover the surfaces I use and how I prepare them. I’m doing a full class on everything I know about acrylics!
Looks great. It's always nice with a change. Just be careful with colored pencils in the window, I have had some do weird stuff after too much sun exposure so just keep an eye on them.
I am obsessed with your wonderful studio!! I LOVE the large painting you hung. Thank u for helping me be more comfortable with colour. Side note question: would u please recommend a brand of oil pastels? Thank you Sandi - your channel is terrific.
I've been using oil pastels for a long time and I think Sennelier is the best brand. They make some beautiful sets to choose from, and I believe that if you find it affordable, the biggest set is the best to have. I love using them and I bet you will too!
Trying to upcharge Grady. Lolol. Of course he'd want to pay premium-- cuz he knows it's a special one that needs to stay to chronicle your journey. Clearly he's doing penance for his " wouldn't be off- putting" comment. Tee Hee. Love your playfulness and humor as a couple. You really seem to compliment one another as a couple. Love you guys!!!
Can I just tell you how excited I’ve been about the workshop you’re teaching!!!! I remember asking you about a workshop when I first found your channel and now I can hardly wait!!!! See you Tuesday!!!! Aaaagh….did I mention I’m excited?!!! Lol
Aat minute 13:00, how did you create the texture in the painting that Grady likes. Is it impasto or heavy body paint? Did you gesso threads onto the surface?
Hiya lovely pictures of Grady. We are lucky in England because our buildings are double layers of brick so we have really wide window frames. It is common to put vases of flowers on them which is great for the light showing of the flowers. Maybe you could make your frames wider by attaching a wider piece of wood on top, painted up it could look barely noticeable against the frames. Enjoy your break x.
sandi HI i want to do water color so bad,, im trying so bad to do it rt,, what are the best waters i can use,, im useing walmart cheap but i do have the the sticks i love them but what do you think,, thank you for your kindness tnn

So glad to have you here Melanie!!

Love your portraits of your hubby!
Thank you!
Enjoy your break...we'll still be here when you get back 💜
Thank you Gillian!!!!
As a professional artist (you I mean) I love that you get so excited about "economy" brushes. I also love it when Coop and the puds make an appearance xxx
Economy materials get a bad wrap sometimes but they can be great things!
I've been listening to the podcast and heard you mention that you and Grady have spoken about doing some books that
would include your sketchbooks. I thought I would put in my vote ... please do some books. I want them!! x
Grady’s working on it for us 🤗🤗🤗
Cats love to get in the shady or dark closed-in spaces. They often look a bit offended when you find them…
Like hey, “this is my private space and I didn’t invite you in.”😆
He totally had that look! 😂 or more like “can you really see me under here or am I invisible- I can’t tell” 😂
You had me laughing so hard when you sent Grady the invoice. Sad you will be taking a break, but totally understand that it is needed. Can't wait to see what you are up to when you are back!
Thank you for understanding!!!
Oh my goodness, I had to pause.....i love these of Grady and my favorite is 3.....lol.......
@Sandi Hester Sandi....you bring so much beauty, humanity and thoughtful prescence to your channel. Grady is a beautiful addition in your artwork as well as his own charateristic thoughtfulness!!!
Thank you Stephanie!
I am happy you are taking a break! I will miss you, but you also need to refresh or we'll lose you from burn out. So enjoy and we'll see you soon. ❤️

Grady has Great taste!
Ok-from the first batch Grady #4 for me captures his essence/features best😃
Had to watch on the TV first because I had a day from h e double toothpicks today. Then I had to come over here to like and comment. I was wondering when we were going to see a glimpse of your "remodel". I have to do that too. Ugh. Grady, perhaps it is time to build a new garage, and make the current garage the new studio. Thank you! Yes, we've had lots of talk about building a bigger studio - hopefully in the future!

Your house looks beautiful, love those green walls in the den.💚 Great inspiring video Sandi, have a lovely break!

Yeah...I just did a spring cleaning session and moving things around for better storage in my living room work area. It took me 3 days and my whole house is only about 500 square ft. Hi Sandi. did I miss something about a workshop? If you ever do any more online workshops in the future I would be very interested :-) Looks like the den needs to become the studio Sandi . have a great break!
I did a whole video a while back about it. I’m working on online courses/classes so hopefully you can catch one of those in the future!
Love your videos
Thank you!
Yay its Friday. Look so forward to watching and learning from your videos. Boo hoo you’re taking a break but nobody needs burnout ,so well have to indulge in all the amazing content you have generously provided for all of us. P,S I liked the last painting of Grady. Lol. Making my Friday better again..!! thanks Sandi!!
Wonderful video Sandi. Love the paintings of Grady. Enjoy your well-deserved break and I’ll be patiently waiting for your return when you’re ready.
thank you Jane!
They are brilliant
love what you did to my 2 favorite Grady paintings. I truly don't like seeing your videos end and was feeling that until you explained. Have a great time off and enjoy your workshop.
thank you Kathleen!
I got you get into one of your workshops
Hi Sandy!!!! Love everything!
Question- how long do the acrylics stay good in the condiment containers?? ❤️
They’re good until I use them up
Enjoy your break - it is well-deserved! So excited to see you at the workshop!
Thanks so much! see you in a few days - eeeee!

Thank u for that tip. I hadn't thought about that. Really good tip.
Good advice, which I would have never thought of.
interesting! I will move them then! I"ve been knocking them over so they need to move!
Thank you for the heads up. I've been keeping mine on the window sill!
I am obsessed with your wonderful studio!! I LOVE the large painting you hung. Thank u for helping me be more comfortable with colour.
Side note question: would u please recommend a brand of oil pastels? Thank you Sandi - your channel is terrific.
Thank you!!!
I've been using oil pastels for a long time and I think Sennelier is the best brand. They make some beautiful sets
to choose from, and I believe that if you find it affordable, the biggest set is the best to have. I love using them and I bet you will too!
@@michelepastele5347 Thank you! I will look for them!
Will we ever see what is behind the orange doors??? Love your videos!
A dump is what’s behind the doors 😂😂😂
Trying to upcharge Grady. Lolol. Of course he'd want to pay premium-- cuz he knows it's a special one that needs to stay to chronicle your journey. Clearly he's doing penance for his " wouldn't be off- putting" comment. Tee Hee. Love your playfulness and humor as a couple. You really seem to compliment one another as a couple. Love you guys!!!
This made me laugh!!!
This made me laugh!

Can I just tell you how excited I’ve been about the workshop you’re teaching!!!! I remember asking you about a workshop when I first found your channel and now I can hardly wait!!!! See you Tuesday!!!! Aaaagh….did I mention I’m excited?!!! Lol
I’m beside myself with excitement too! It’s been hard to get this brain to settle down - it’s been going a mile a minute!
👍🌸👍
Enjoy teaching your workshop! Will miss you, but know that everyone needs to get their batteries recharged from time to time.
Thank you Robin!
Hi Sandi great video as usual lol Can I ask what cover you have on your ipad on your desk? I have 12.9 Pro and covers I have tried are flimsy. Thanks
Where did you get the black dress? It is really nice!
Great idea!
