This game could just fucking blow anyone away. I love anything that theorizes what it would be like to be on other planet with interesting music to create a theme. Such a fascinating game. I would die for the 2&3 to be exact style and everything like the original, but just new planets, gadgets, weapons, & armor. They had so much potential to blow peoples minds with the style and level designs. This game has literally changed my entire life. One thing stood out to me from since I was a child, the idea of exploring different planets and what it would be like to be on one, just to see what other life exists. I say that there are mysteries out there. I adore the developers of this game and the dedication and love put into it and wish more people thought like this and would be inspired by the unique design. I don’t care if it’s old and people prefer good graphics. The point in old style is that they don’t give it too much, they keep it even for it’s game. Fits perfectly as is, no need to make it too good 😂
This OST just reminded me of how dark and terrifying the Oltanis Orbital Gemlik base was. The creepy music, the poorly lit facility (despite being right next to a star), those Blargian fighter jets that ambush you anytime you open a door and just hover there menacingly, and the fact that Captain Qwark was actually somewhat of a threatening, menacing villain in the first game.
True, but it i love the view you get. Along with that "Diiiiiiiing". It was beautiful in a way. This moonbase had so much feelings in it, in some weird way. Well, so did all levels somehow. But this one felt diffrent.
What I love about the Soundtrack of this game is each planet them song has a ambient beat where is always connected to the environment of the planet that you are. Like Orxon feel like a place hostile, scary, uneasy and that you must be careful. Pokitaro (sorry if i misspelled the name) feels a utopian place where you feel could take vacation here. Batalia feels you are indeed in a battlefield and lock and loaded to destroy every ennemis you came to cross. I can go on with more planets Soundtrack but i bet you get the idea
I personally love how when you go to Orxon as Clank it's what you described, but you're pretty much defenceless, since you are playing Clank and the music emphasizes on that, by being super creepy. But when you come back as Ratchet, it's still hostile toxic and unwelcoming, but this time you've got guns. So it's more funky, yet still unwelcoming and hostile.
If you miss it you have 5 options 1. Buy a ps2 somewhere and buy the game (Legal route) 2. Hack you ps3 and have or 1. A hack that allows you to play ps2 games or 2. Buy ps3 and the RaC collection (Legal route 2)
Here is my subjective opinion on what tracks are the absolute best/most impressive and I think you should check out. 1. 33:25 Aridia Outpost X11 2. 2:10:53 Oltanis Orbit - Gemlik Base 3. 1:36:45 Gaspar - Blarg Depot 4. 1:12:35 Blackwater City (hoverboard race) (people really be slacking on this one) 5. 2:27:36 Quartu - Robot Plant 6. 55:10 Nebula G34 - Blarg Station 7. 41:34 Aridia (swingshot) 8. 4:14 Novalis 9. 46:00 Eudora 10. 17:02 Kerwan - Metropolis (People say this is the best track, I strongly disagree, it's good though)
it was a fun play but the music is just so boring and weak in that game, its like they didnt even try to capture some of this old magic - they really just typed in “generic orchestral pixar hero movie music”
@@viletoxxie honestly, did they have to go orchestra? Literally does NOT fit this universe at all. I’m sorta new to this franchise and I can tell that the music direction they took was bland and very cliche
I’m a huge fan of the series and I never noticed that there’s different tracks for the different sections of each planet. I love that they didn’t just stop at one song per planet.
The one thing I love about all these tunes in the OST is that every planet has a unique vibe established by the stinger at the beginning. For example: Veldin: The tutorial level but its track shows that you are not on Earth and are in a different universe. Novalis: The first "real" level and it wants you discover more of the planet. Kerwan: One of my favorites in the entire series. Easily recognizable and a powerful track that makes you feel like you're in a metropolis. Aridia: Combines both a deserted atmosphere with a funk techno influence to show the factory nearby. Eudora: Again, a combo of simple notes for the nature setting with a techno beat to show Drek's forces taking over. Nebula G34: Combines the vastness of space with a techno vibe to showcase an advanced research facility Blackwater City: Again, a powerful track like Kerwan's but with a darker tone to show the nighttime landscape and invasive Amoeboids. Umbris: A lot of funk and techno with a distorted background vocal track to warn you of a twist. Batalia: Literally makes you feel like on a battlefield locked and loaded. Gaspar: A planet with a techno vibe as you search for a key piece of tech Pokitaru: A remix of Veldin's theme but now with a more laid-back and carefree atmosphere. Orxon: Very suspenseful and morbid to let you know that this is not where you want to be. Hostile and cruel Hoven: Very fast paced to let you know you have to save the planet before it's too late. Gemlik Base: Really nails the emptiness and even scariness of space. All in all this OST really makes you feel like you're in a different place each time and it changes moods effortlessly.
It’s been said in all these comments these tracks just remind you that you’re not on earth... I think that is the best way to ever sum up ratchet and clank. These games have turned into just basic kiddy show cartoons but I remember these games giving you just a real sense that you’re in a different time and galaxy. Also there was a huge focus on the worlds and enemies that made each location feel alive and just crazy.
It's 2023, almost 20 years after I started playing this game. I'm now listening to it while I study for my last semester of university and it takes me to a special place, where I'm on an adventure completing tasks and missions. thanks, infinite thanks.
Having owned the original edition, it always bothered me that the trigger for this track never worked properly. If you wanted to hear it during the Drek fight, you had to run *all the way back* through the level and then take the teleporter back to the start of the fight.
Another thing is, these OSTs felt different at the time and you where not on planet Earth anymore when playing, you were in the game. Legit, God, how much I love these games
I'm listening to the Eudora track like I would any other music. Absolutely epic soundtrack. I just finished up playing the 2016 version and felt my soul and heart were ripped out of my body.
People compare game graphics, character designs, fps, waifus, genres, how much a game sucks or excels, then there's me who falls in love with games through their great soundtracks. This series is so full of atmosphere and life in terms of music design. David Bergeaud is great! Shouts out to David Wise, Josh Mancell, Saki Kaskas, Rom di Prisco, and Koji Kondo! Btw not hating on people who like to compare games and all, it's just a statement, my opinion, much love to all gamers worldwide! :)
Just had one of those “When the song you always skip is a banger.” moment. Hoven is such a banger and barely realized once it randomly popped in my head. I’m obsessed with it, whole track is great but that outro section is just amazing .
Listening with earbuds in really helps with admiring the little details, in the Veldin theme alone I could hear the clicking beat from Orxon, such amazing composition
Best Ratchet & Clank game by far, best soundtrack David Bergeaud ever made. Those who disagree simply never played it first. This soundtrack was mostly composed of built-in samples used on hardware like Synthesizers and Drum machines, which was the staple of 90's music culture into the 2000's and was the physical variant of what most people can easily do now downloading one or a DAW in 10 minutes like FL Studio, Reason, or Cubase (which were heavily used then, too). None of this is to say that Bergeaud didn't inject his own genius into these works- because for all the music like this around this timeframe, Bergeaud's work holds up massively well in light of it all. Music is CRITICALLY important to mediums like VG and Film (usually around 1/3 of the experience), and the Ratchet & Clank series wouldn't be as revered and celebrated to this day without the iconic soundtrack that helped define exactly what Ratchet & Clank was (at least back on PS2, before it went soft).
It's not even about playing it first, it's that the people that dislike this one just play it wrong, the original game is not supposed to be played like any of its sequels. It's literally a 1 of a kind
2 has way better and more refined combat. 1 does a lot of things well but the the combat is a bit jank. It did not seem like they knew if they wanted to make a platformer or a shoter. 2 refines the combat as well as having some platforming, lots of gadgets and minigames like the dogfighting and racing wich are all a step up from their counterparts in 1. I do hear a lot of ppl praising deadlocked but i never had a ps2 and have therefor only played the ones on ps3 and the newest one on ps5(that game was not worth the price hike)
@@gwd_0050 the issue is that you probably try to play RaC1 like you'd play RaC2, if you say the first one is "a bit jank". The approach to enemies is very different in both games
@@gwd_0050 Agreed, 2 is definitely the next best in every way. That's the trouble though, to appreciate it, you have to have played the first one first.
@@Hysteria98 if R&C1 is the best in the franchise, it shouldn’t matter when you played it… it should just stand up. A game that is truly the best of its franchise will be recognised as such by new players, but this one is not. You only say it’s the best because of nostalgia, your opinion would be different if you hadn’t played it when it first came out. As the other person said, the combat and gameplay is unrefined and missing many QOL improvements that the sequels introduced. And no, it’s not a matter of ‘you’re trying to play R&C1 the wrong way’ - R&C1 doesn’t have strafing or weapon upgrading, which makes its combat uninteresting and painful towards the end as enemies get harder but your guns don’t upgrade. People were saying this even at the time. R&C1 is only the best in the series if you’re nostalgic for it or you like the story.
Such a great nostalgia trip. Brings me back to the 3 times I got absolutely stuck in this game and the one time I soft-locked it. 1st time: Kerwan, I thought Big All was the end of the level and was too dumb to check my map. 2nd time: The rising water level on Rilgar. It didn't come to me that I had to long jump my way through it and I was stuck on it for a long time. Ever since that level, I've had an oddly specific fear of swimming underwater under a hard surface. Like I can swim underwater, but only with direct air above my head, to this day. 3rd: Freaking Pokitaru. A simple yet annoying sticky situation: I HAD NO IDEA HOW DO DO A DAMN POWER-SLAM!!! For some reason the help-desk bubble, just didn't show, until it finally did for a big "Ohh" moment. The soft lock was after a bunch of playthroughs and came to me out of boredom. On Orxon I tried to skip the magnet boots as Clank to see what would happen if you try and get them as Ratchet. Turns out you can't... You get soft-locked is what happens. Great memories!

I think that was the point, like your were out in space so it was going for that kinda feel
It felt you were in some weird Mars-like planet but it’s a Moonbase and the volcanoes were around.
Talking about the Skybox.
True, but it i love the view you get.
Along with that "Diiiiiiiing".
It was beautiful in a way.
This moonbase had so much feelings in it, in some weird way.
Well, so did all levels somehow.
But this one felt diffrent.
my favorite song in the OST
02:10:53 best level & music.
Holy shit I miss this game.

2. Hack you ps3 and have or 1. A hack that allows you to play ps2 games or 2. Play the ps3 version in the collection (a difficult route)
3. play it with a emulator in pc.(an asshole route)

@Alara Demir Yeah as a part of the Ratchet and Clank HD collection.
Such a spacey, whimsical mood to the music. So upbeat and explorative in its composition and instrument usage...just like the game. 1:22:12 dang
Here is my subjective opinion on what tracks are the absolute best/most impressive and I think you should check out.
1. 33:25 Aridia Outpost X11
2. 2:10:53 Oltanis Orbit - Gemlik Base
3. 1:36:45 Gaspar - Blarg Depot

6. 55:10 Nebula G34 - Blarg Station
7. 41:34 Aridia (swingshot)
8. 4:14 Novalis
9. 46:00 Eudora
10. 17:02 Kerwan - Metropolis (People say this is the best track, I strongly disagree, it's good though)
They didn’t have to go that hard on the Black water city music but they did 🔥
Oh they did not fuck about on that one
God even hearing it now as an adult fills me with dread.
@@DeltaDaspleto Why? I got this game 20 years ago and only feel Nice nostalgic feelings ❤
@@SimenSebastian Because blackwater city sewer escape had me stuck for months.
It's not about the game or music itself, it's about the level.
Damn Orxon's theme was so sick...the PS4 remake was such a wasted opportunity
it was a fun play but the music is just so boring and weak in that game, its like they didnt even try to capture some of this old magic - they really just typed in “generic orchestral pixar hero movie music”
@@viletoxxie honestly, did they have to go orchestra? Literally does NOT fit this universe at all. I’m sorta new to this franchise and I can tell that the music direction they took was bland and very cliche
Anyone remember the trailers on nearly all PS2 demo discs in 2001/2002?
Dude. This music makes the feels get hit super hard. I played this when I was a kid. This hurts in a good way.
I’m a huge fan of the series and I never noticed that there’s different tracks for the different sections of each planet. I love that they didn’t just stop at one song per planet.

@@PushPastMyLimits Aridia. With sand sharks and mud.
Oh my god. It is embedded in my mind....
So this is what formed my music taste towards 90's breakbeat house and IDM at 9 years old..
The one thing I love about all these tunes in the OST is that every planet has a unique vibe established by the stinger at the beginning. For example:
Veldin: The tutorial level but its track shows that you are not on Earth and are in a different universe.
Nebula G34: Combines the vastness of space with a techno vibe to showcase an advanced research facility
Blackwater City: Again, a powerful track like Kerwan's but with a darker tone to show the nighttime landscape and invasive Amoeboids.
Umbris: A lot of funk and techno with a distorted background vocal track to warn you of a twist.
Batalia: Literally makes you feel like on a battlefield locked and loaded.
Gaspar: A planet with a techno vibe as you search for a key piece of tech
Pokitaru: A remix of Veldin's theme but now with a more laid-back and carefree atmosphere.
Orxon: Very suspenseful and morbid to let you know that this is not where you want to be. Hostile and cruel
Hoven: Very fast paced to let you know you have to save the planet before it's too late.

Lol my brother was playing the ps4 version and I was the DJ choosing the right OST for each planet. It actually hits different

Best fucking soundtrack in all of gaming PERIOD
Recently played the old PS2 R&T games for the first time, Jeez the music in these, wonderful, exotic, thrilling, chapeau David!
Can't wait to get dissapointed by the next game's soundtrack all over again.
Oh believe me you will.
1:21:21

Human Bean remake the original as it was but with better graphics. Like spyro and crash bandicoot. Also the soundtracks should remain the same or if they are going to put something new, they should have an option to play either the new or old soundtracks of each level.
no just stop with the remakes. the ps3 hd stuff is probably the best thing we have right now, and porting something like ratchet and clank to pc, could very well help preserve the originals
