Thank you for the wonderful pictures. They brought back the memory of last fall when I celebrated my rebirth with my racing bike six weeks after a cancer surgery with a ride on the Stelvio. At the time, I had tears in my eyes after the ride and thanked fate that the surgery was successful. Because I was pretty tired I did not have much pictures at the time. Thank you for the wonderful pictures.
Once you conquer the stelvio by bike you can do anything,so mind expanding. I broke my back due to a car running into me from behind.after surgery it was hard ,everyone said i couldnt do it due to weight, age and injury but i proved myself wrong and then went and did zoncolan and mortirolo,so never say never, never give up,you are way stronger than you think!
❤❤❤ This is the ultimate climb as far as I’m concerned. So far away from my Province of Québec unfortunately. I’m so envious. Thanks for making me dream 👍
Rode the Stelvio a couple days before the Maratona in 2007,,,,,it was a great ride until the last 5 KM....started raining and then snowing! We started out in sunshine and 70 degrees F and this was at the very end of June.
This is actually my very first climb I did EVER. Took me 3 hours and 21 minutes on a mountainbike. I had just started cycling at that point and was afraid I couldn't handle the proper road cycle gearing with the larger front sprockets. I remember having to pee and while we were doing it another boy with his dad passed us. We got back on the bikes, passed them before the next hairpin and we didn't see them until after we got to the top, ate something at the restaurant there and started to get down again. This will always be the climbs I love the most! I definitely want to do it again on a road bike!
Thanks for the flashbacks I was just there 2 weeks ago climb the same side however was 38゚ at the top I can't believe you guys didn't stop for the bratwurst on top. The embrail pass is gorgeous
Thanks Shane, great vid that reminded me of my time there a year ago to the day almost. Love the aussie take on the corners too. So wish I was there with you guys.
WOW. What an epic ride, absolutely stunning images, thoroughly enjoyed that. Looks like you had picked a perfect day too. September this year it's my turn!
we rode from Merano to Bormio via the Stelvio a few days earlier. absolute stunning scenary and fantastic fottage there Shane. looks like you had an awesome day weather wise.
Sept 11 2019. From Prato - road was closed, then got opened as we set off. It was such a beautiful day it actually got warmer as we made elevation. The biggest thing i noticed was the friendliness of everyone going up and descending: cars, bikes and bikers. It's such an enormous feat, that it really does bring out the best in people. The top is very cold, and I got 79.1kmh descending! Take clothing, eat and drink - do not mess with this beast. Oh - the Zoncolan is harder. Much, much harder. But Stelvio, is a major accomplishment.
It's amazing how seeing all the beautiful Stelvio scenery brings back awesome memories of my ride on that road and how good I felt when I got to the top. Yet... I only ever 'rode' it on a trainer, following a Tacx video, and never in real life! What a strange world we live in these days.
Been looking at this for a while now, but seeing you guys on it makes me think twice. Maybe one for them to put on Zwift in the future, I might be able to do it that way. lol @ the bottle, poor guy !
Ol Raymond needs to come forward on his seat position more? He looks very hunched and shoulder rolled forward. Suicide grip on the tops too like hes too far away. All possible tell tales
The place and the shots look gorgeous! Thanks for making the effort to capture and share this with us instead of just focusing on enjoying it! You should get an award for your epilogues! You expressed some reservations about the traffic in one of your previous videos but it didn't seem too bad in this one. Would you say it's something to be concerned about for a first-time would-be Stelvio conqueror?
2:50 the song says "there's room for everyone". Immediately after, ray has two cars pass him *safely* around a hairpin bend. going back to the quote in the song. Europe has clearly understood this, and when you can see this understanding on the Stelvio Pass, you know it can work anywhere. Meanwhile in Australia: You can't finish saying the word "cyclist" before people start losing their fu*king minds. (got abused 3 times on my 4km ride to school. Salty as hell about it)
Great video Lama!! I'm heading to Europe to ride in the fall and would like to do some filming too. Outside of the drone footage what are you using to hold the gopro camera you are filming with? Thx!
Stunning view shaneo. Now I wanna go over there and do that climb. lol And I hate hills. lol Great vid again bud. (Side question: What was the change in temps while you were riding up hill?)
What were the giant plastic pieces on the helmet straps on yours and Ray's helmets? They're on the forward straps, just under the arms of your glasses.
Great video and footage. Would love to see a more in-depth cycling video recording tips video one day (eg best settings, mounts, positions etc). If it's not recorded (well), it never happened!
Martin R. 1.5m law. Most people don't respect cyclists, they just don't want to argue with the cops. Italy is 500% better for it ie for every 500 cars that pass me 1 is an idiot, the other 499 are just better at texting or facetiming.
Thanks for the reply! You may be right. I've had only limited exposure to the road traffic in Italy, in the Luino/Lugano region. Very positive experience ;)
Martin R. 20 years in .it The difference even between the last year and the year before that is that cycling is now a real pleasure and so so so much safer, but there are still too many texting drivers. When I'm in my car i just beep long at them as they weave onto my side of the road.
It was more the fact that we were supposed to be enjoying the 'downhill all the way back to town' part...and then found out we still had to pedal hard against it...while going downhill. :)
Nick Arko I rode up it last month on 50-34 and 12-29. Didn't need last two gears at all. It's a really steady climb with the same percentage mostly. Just takes nearly 2 hours (for me).
Nope. While I agree they're a good idea, if someone can't see a cyclist on the road without a light on their bike they're going to have difficulty just getting into the car to drive it.
Thank you for the wonderful pictures. They brought back the memory of last fall when I celebrated my rebirth with my racing bike six weeks after a cancer surgery with a ride on the Stelvio. This landscape is unreal.
DC's sock game is outrageous
Put on some goddamn long socks Ray
Triathlonererer at heart aint he
long socks look wierd..short to none is better
Okay that has just gone onto the Bucket List... Looks awesome.
❤❤❤ This is the ultimate climb as far as I’m concerned. So far away from my Province of Québec unfortunately.
I’m so envious.
Thanks for making me dream 👍
Glorious! Just watching DCR on a bike makes my back hurt.
Love the way you were looking for a coffee shop and the climb had barely begun....! :)
This ride was outstanding. Thanks for sharing the beautiful views. We don't get many of those kind of views in Florida.
I rode this on Rouvy, awesome ride. Thanks for sharing.
Stunning views. I NEED to climb that mountain. Looks amazing.
Rode the Stelvio a couple days before the Maratona in 2007,,,,,it was a great ride until the last 5 KM....started raining and then snowing! We started out in sunshine and 70 degrees F and this was at the very end of June.

Heck of a ride up Stelvio 👍
Thanks for the flashbacks I was just there 2 weeks ago climb the same side however was 38゚ at the top I can't believe you guys didn't stop for the bratwurst on top. The embrail pass is gorgeous
Superb video! Thanks. I've done that exact loop. Amongst all that awesome riding, the 40kms of descending were something else! (from Melbourne, Aus.)
Oh perfect! Brilliant footage and lovely ride
Very nice. Such a pretty part of the world.
That looks amazing. That’s on the bucket list for sure
Are we there yet???!!!!! absolutely, what I say every time before we get into the 'groove'
Great video Lama ! - those gradients are mahoosive 😮 beautiful scenery 👌
"Where Dumoulin changed his watts per kilo..." brilliant.
Yes, agreed. Laughing! Well done.
I feel like I'm missing out on something here, care to explain?
Steve Hill He’s referring to Dumoulin’s infamous PooGate, where he dropped a few grams on the side of the road. 😉
Thanks Shane, great vid that reminded me of my time there a year ago to the day almost. Love the aussie take on the corners too. So wish I was there with you guys.
THIS. IS. GORGEOUS.
Amazing , respect boys
WOW. What an epic ride, absolutely stunning images, thoroughly enjoyed that. Looks like you had picked a perfect day too.
September this year it's my turn!
Yup remember it well, you had a nicer day of weather for it
we rode from Merano to Bormio via the Stelvio a few days earlier. absolute stunning scenary and fantastic fottage there Shane. looks like you had an awesome day weather wise.
I know DC rainmaker for the reviews on the Mavic Mini and the Garmin Edge and you GPLama my favorite tubeless mechanic also Zwift reviewer
On my //TODO list. Maybe next year I'll plan a holiday around it.
Aw man, just two weeks before I rode that in the Giro delle Dolomiti. Whole climb was closed off, you would've loved that...
Great work Lama! Some of those views were amazing! Would be hard to not stop TOO MUCH along the way with those views!
That view is amazing!!
Excelente vídeo! Saludos desde Mérida, Venezuela.
Amazing!!!....i cant wait to get over there.
Cheers for the AWESOME vid.

Half the length but way steeper. Especially the Ovaro and Priola climbs
Excellent footage Shane well done great video

I reckon if you ditch the 12 GPS units and all the tech you'd FLY UP! 😋
Been looking at this for a while now, but seeing you guys on it makes me think twice. Maybe one for them to put on Zwift in the future, I might be able to do it that way.
lol @ the bottle, poor guy !
Amazing footage!
Wow love it, that is awesome footage, made me feel like I was there. It must be hard riding up a climb like that with one hand though !
awesome
Awesome! Nice ride, thanks for sharing!
Looks like you really put the hurt on Ray. What are the things on your helmet straps?
I was wondering the same thing...Are those some kind of new tech bone res headphones?
Same here,wtf are those?
Found it: www.amazon.com/Coros-Conducting-adjustable-Comfortable-Lightweight/dp/B06XX8X6MQ
I just noticed DC rainmaker giant dual watches 4:22
Thx for some awesome shots, loved it 👍
So beautiful!
Ray is the ultimate fast talker.
Spaventoso! 😱
It's a very beautiful place to ride a bike! Italy ❤️🇮🇹
Ol Raymond needs to come forward on his seat position more? He looks very hunched and shoulder rolled forward. Suicide grip on the tops too like hes too far away. All possible tell tales
great video

You expressed some reservations about the traffic in one of your previous videos but it didn't seem too bad in this one. Would you say it's something to be concerned about for a first-time would-be Stelvio conqueror?
The traffic was ok on this day/side. Our descent was even better on the Swiss side.
2:50 the song says "there's room for everyone".
Immediately after, ray has two cars pass him *safely* around a hairpin bend.

What a shame as well since there is some great cycling in the country
That looks incredible. Great video!
Awesome! 🙆👍👊
I love the little nuggets you are putting on the end of your videos - 'that's what happens when you forget your bike! :("
ROTFLMAO😂
StilfserJoch, Sud Tirol.
Nice to see everyone, cars and cyclists being human about the road and those on it. v nice
Great video Lama!! I'm heading to Europe to ride in the fall and would like to do some filming too. Outside of the drone footage what are you using to hold the gopro camera you are filming with? Thx!
That was the bottom of the 3-Way from GoPro. Ray had a 'GoPro Shorty' which I've just ordered for myself.
Very nice ♡
wow!
Stunning view shaneo. Now I wanna go over there and do that climb. lol And I hate hills. lol Great vid again bud. (Side question: What was the change in temps while you were riding up hill?)
Great climb. It is one of my "one to do". One question. Did you have a 50/34 in front and a up to 32 in the rear? If not. What did did have?
I can’t recall the gearing... I believe it was a compact or semi-compact. No more than a 28 on the back.
1:21 - Help you decide what feet to wear your Powerbeat Balance socks
Ray's sock length (or the lack of it) really bothers me...
Nice vids! Stable cam. 👊🏼 I’ll subscribe
Nice ride :-)
What are those things you are both wearing on the helmet straps?
Likely the Bluetooth speakers/smart helmet things.
Excellent video. Shane what hotel did you stay in? Might go next year. Cheers
Camping Kiefernhain
@@gplama thanks 👍
nice clime :) gona ride it on my bikepacking tour in a month :) but with 15kg extra on camp stuf :(
that was a fantastic ride. Also caused me to look up Isaac Meson - I'd never heard of it before. Looks nice. Presumably hired in Italy or Switzerland?
The Isaac was from Cor Mantel 2wielers in Amsterdam.
Unbelievably good video!! I've been away for a week. How did you gain 10K subscribers while I was away?! Great work....
I somehow hit the UA-cam freeway with one of my Eurobike vids. 3.7 million views in a week. Things went 🚀 for a while.
Yeah I've just been going back and watching all your Eurobike vids, since I got home to internet access. Very well deserved!
@7:32 LOL, collateral damage ;)
What were the giant plastic pieces on the helmet straps on yours and Ray's helmets? They're on the forward straps, just under the arms of your glasses.
Bluetooth speakers... I believe. I wasn't using them.
Is that Pedal Mafia kit that @dcrainmaker is wearing.
Yep
So Shane: What is your verdict on that bone conduction technology? Worth the price?
Didn’t use it sorry.
Them buckles on your helmet straps would really bother me. Epic trip though.
Great clip Shane. The Charlie Chaplin remix - who's the artist? Great tune!
Should be listed in the video description.
I did the stelvio from Prato just like you a couple of weeks ago and came down same way. Do you wish you did the same or was the Swiss way down epic!
Swiss descent was less traffic.. and had some amazing views. I'd do the same loop again given the chance.
Shane Miller - GPLama will plan for it next year then 👍🏽 all the best..
Hey Shane what are you using to shoot the vids in 4k, really good quality is it a Hero 6? Scenery is amazing there.
Yep, Hero 6. Ray’s Mavic Air for the drone shots.
Great video and footage. Would love to see a more in-depth cycling video recording tips video one day (eg best settings, mounts, positions etc). If it's not recorded (well), it never happened!
Seems like the drivers there have more respect for cyclists than in my country (Slovakia).
Martin R. 1.5m law. Most people don't respect cyclists, they just don't want to argue with the cops. Italy is 500% better for it ie for every 500 cars that pass me 1 is an idiot, the other 499 are just better at texting or facetiming.
MrSisterfister100 I tried, but I'm not convinced you read what i wrote?
Thanks for the reply! You may be right. I've had only limited exposure to the road traffic in Italy, in the Luino/Lugano region. Very positive experience ;)

Mr.
no stickers on the final switchback sign
NIce vid guys
Looks amazing! What camera are you using?
GoPro Hero 6 for the majority of this.
Did you race each other? My moneys on GP Lama up the mountain
No racing, just riding.
Ray, does the wind around your ankles make a whistling noise? #askdcrainmaker
11:40 Descending à la Zwift.
Ray should be used to headwinds by now. They're not called the "Dutch Mountains" for nothing.
It was more the fact that we were supposed to be enjoying the 'downhill all the way back to town' part...and then found out we still had to pedal hard against it...while going downhill. :)
Are those bone conduction audio units on your helmet straps?
pfff, so many cars and motorbikes make this climb a no-go despite of gorgeous views.
Whats on both your helmet straps?
@GPLama - which Oakleys are they ? I'm in the market for some replacements for my very old half jackets (for running, rather than cycling).
RadarLock. Pretty old ones.
Lama how come you're using the Garmin over there?
That's what Ray had spare that I could put on the bars. I only took my FR935 with me. I travel light.
Shane Miller - GPLama cheers, keep up the good work!
Hey Shane what Helmet are you wearing?
No idea to be honest. It was a loaner from Ray.
Who's stronger?
Lance
Were your helmets connected via Bluetooth and if so how did you rate it?
No, we didn't connect them up.
Hey, what cassette did you used to climb?
Nick Arko I rode up it last month on 50-34 and 12-29. Didn't need last two gears at all. It's a really steady climb with the same percentage mostly. Just takes nearly 2 hours (for me).
What are the two plastics pieces you and Ray have on your helmet straps?
Some kind of Bluetooth speaker thingy. I wasn't using it. (loaner helmet)
What's up with those helmet strap thingys?
Some Bluetooth headphone thingy. When loaning a helmet from DCRainmaker, you never know what you're going to get.
What settings you use on your GoPro?
Defaults are usually fine for what I do. 4k/60 if I have the battery/memory for it.
Thanks
no lights on the rear of your cycles??
Nope. While I agree they're a good idea, if someone can't see a cyclist on the road without a light on their bike they're going to have difficulty just getting into the car to drive it.
I think lights are a necessity now because of all the people texting and driving. Its another safety alert to signal distracted drivers.
@@piertechinc I think texting and driving is the real issue there that needs to be addressed.
What is that helmet? Are they ear pods/speakers???
Not sure, and yep. I didn't have them connected up. It was just a loaner for the week.
@@gplama Just looked it up. "Bone Conduction Speakers" ??? Not for me, thanks. Was just curious.
