Previously, Philippine Navy and Coast Guard were the ones that uses deadly force on others. It’s the Philippine Coast Guard that had shot to death a Taiwanese fisherman in 2013 near Taiping Island which is an island administered by Taiwan. Also, Philippine also stole Taiwan’s Zhongye Dao/Pag-Asa during a storm. In addition, two Vietnamese fishermen died in 2017 in a tragic incident with the Philippine Navy.
They were not carrying firearms or pointing any guns. They had a medical operation at that time, they needed to get to the ship where one of the assigned ph coast guard needed to be brought to the hospital immediately. In one of the videos they were even trying to explain to the Chinese coast guard in a calm manner but instead of hearing their pleas, they started using force resulting to one of the filipino coast guard losing his thumb. In other videos, Ph coast guards have a hard time delivering food supplies to the ship since ch coast guards would immediately block them, so they opt for aerial delivery but when one of the supplies accidentally dropped to the water, ch coast guards immediately retrieved it and when they saw that it was food, instead of giving it back to them, they throw the contents on the water. In the video, it can be clearly seen on that "split second" clip that those soldiers were just doing their duty, patrolling the vessel while the supplies were delivered. They were carrying guns indeed, but they were not pointing it to the Ch cg, they were actually signalling the Ch cg to leave their packages alone after they siezed it and throw the contents on the water. In fact, if we would base from the 2016 arbitral ruling, Ch cg's patrolling activities in ayungin shoal are illegal. It means, they should not be there in the first place. And there were no firearms confiscated, because in fact, during their latest press conference, Marcos & Tarriela rejects the idea of equipping Ph vessels with water cannons which proves the peace efforts in WPS despite the incident where two of the patrolling vessels of Ph was fired with water cannon by bigger chinese vessels from both sides resulting to damages and this is not the first time. EEZ is not sovereignty. It prescribes the max limit in the ocean from sovereign territory to exploit resources. EEZs overlap. China has claimed those uninhabited shoals as sovereign territory since time immemorial when it was sole super power. Despite being weak in the late 1800s and subjected to foreign invasion, China never ceded claims in SCS. Only Imperial Japan took possession in WWII but were forced to relinquish them in post war treaty to China, ie the claim is continuous. Philippines was a Spanish colony which didn't include claims to those shoals. Philippines claims were made in late 20th century after it became a country.

Before people complain about China's coast guard enforcement operations, why was the Philippine armed force/Navy involved and violating China's sovereignty? Why were they carrying firearms? Philippine could have used the firearms first. Philippine might be transporting the weapons to the illegally shipwrecked warship for future use.
Previously, Philippine Navy and Coast Guard were the ones that uses deadly force on others. It’s the Philippine Coast Guard that had shot to death a Taiwanese fisherman in 2013 near Taiping Island which is an island administered by Taiwan. Also, Philippine also stole Taiwan’s Zhongye Dao/Pag-Asa during a storm. In addition, two Vietnamese fishermen died in 2017 in a tragic incident with the Philippine Navy.

They had a medical operation at that time, they needed to get to the ship where one of the assigned ph coast guard needed to be brought to the hospital immediately. In one of the videos they were even trying to explain to the Chinese coast guard in a calm manner but instead of hearing their pleas, they started using force resulting to one of the filipino coast guard losing his thumb. In other videos, Ph coast guards have a hard time delivering food supplies to the ship since ch coast guards would immediately block them, so they opt for aerial delivery but when one of the supplies accidentally dropped to the water, ch coast guards immediately retrieved it and when they saw that it was food, instead of giving it back to them, they throw the contents on the water. And in the first place, according to the international law, Philippines owns that zone, China is the one who's violating rules. I hope that these gives clarity to you

@@Jnojsk I searched the recorded video of what you you were referring. that was the time when Ph cg were forced to deliver their food supply to sierra madre vessel through helicopter since Ch cg are blocking their boats. In the video, it can be clearly seen on that "split second" clip that those soldiers were just doing their duty, patrolling the vessel while the supplies were delivered. They were carrying guns indeed, but they were not pointing it to the Ch cg, they were actually signalling the Ch cg to leave their packages alone after they siezed it and throw the contents on the water. In fact, if we would base from the 2016 arbitral ruling, Ch cg's patrolling activities in ayungin shoal are illegal. It means, they should not be there in the first place. And there were no firearms confiscated, because in fact, during their latest press conference, Marcos & Tarriela rejects the idea of equipping Ph vessels with water cannons which proves the peace efforts in WPS despite the incident where two of the patrolling vessels of Ph was fired with water cannon by bigger chinese vessels from both sides resulting to damages and this is not the first time. After that, the Ch govt released a statement saying they were the victim on that incident, but they can't even show recorded proofs. UNCLOS already ruled in favor of the Ph claim on WPS and deemed Ch's assertions, including its nine-dash line, as unlawful. Ch should respect and leave Philippines' territories at once, since the agreement with the former administration is that Ch are only allowed to conduct marine research on the area but not military exercises.

EEZ is not sovereignty. It prescribes the max limit in the ocean from sovereign territory to exploit resources. EEZs overlap. China has claimed those uninhabited shoals as sovereign territory since time immemorial when it was sole super power. Despite being weak in the late 1800s and subjected to foreign invasion, China never ceded claims in SCS. Only Imperial Japan took possession in WWII but were forced to relinquish them in post war treaty to China, ie the claim is continuous. Philippines was a Spanish colony which didn't include claims to those shoals. Philippines claims were made in late 20th century after it became a country.
Philippines people must wake up to the fact that eez is not Philippines territory. It's international waters. Eez Entitlement to resources does not meant entitlement to the territory of china and Taiwan.
China and Taiwan owns SCS before unclos even existed. Unclos had no jurisdiction to deny china ownership.

After World War II, pursuant to the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation, the Chinese government recovered and resumed the exercise of sovereignty over Nanhai Zhudao, which had been illegally occupied by Japan during its war of aggression against China.
China has territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests in the South China Sea. Including the fact that China has sovereignty over Nanhai Zhudao; China has internal waters, territorial sea and contiguous zone based on Nanhai Zhudao. China has exclusive economic zone and continental shelf based on Nanhai Zhudao; And China has historic rights in the South China Sea.
