In response to the death of a Taiwanese fisherman, there were numerous reports of abuse towards PH OFWs in Taiwan. It was chaos. After investigation and sanctions delivered, both countries have come to an agreement and relationship has subsequently returned to normal.

In response to the death of a Taiwanese fisherman, there were numerous reports of abuse towards PH OFWs in Taiwan. It was chaos. After investigation and sanctions delivered, both countries have come to an agreement and relationship has subsequently returned to normal.

China is among the first countries who signed the UNCLOS in 1982 and ratified it in 1994. But China now refuses to follow the rule based order of UNCLOS and rejects the arbitral court's' ruling to pursue its unfriendly, and aggressive territorial expansion and total control of global trade and navigation in the south china sea.
First, China's claim to the South China Sea islands has legal and historical basis, and has been supported by the United Nations and the United States, the colonizer of the Philippines. Second, the United Nations Law of the Sea cannot resolve sovereignty issues between countries. Then, China's sovereignty over the South China Sea islands can be traced back to 1906 in legal terms. Even though China took over the occupied South China Sea islands from Japan in 1946 after the end of World War II, the Philippines was still a colony of the United States at that time, and the United States assisted the Chinese government in taking over the South China Sea islands from Japan. Finally, the United Nations Law of the Sea was signed and adopted in 1982. How can it be traced back to 1946? The US government did not participate in the signing. What qualifications do Americans have to ask China to comply? Moreover, China has always abided by the United Nations Law of the Sea.
