The fact is that when China was weak, some territories were taken away. But when China becomes strong again, we can naturally take them back.

Then why does China whine about territories? I'm sure there were Filipino there for years. Besides, do you really want to get embarrassed again like the battle of yultong? Y'all sent 40,000 and got beat by 900. I'm pretty sure most of the Filipinos were just cooks and not even the best. The fact is 40,000 Chinese soldiers lost to 900! Did you not pay attention to international court rulings? Chinas claims are false claims you fool! Facts! 😂@@zhepengfeng8279

Excellent documentary. Absolutely excellent. One thing can be clear. Out of the conflict between China and the Philippines came thriving new relationships. So now the Philippines has The US, Japan, Australia, France, and India helping it. All China's bullying did was make the Philippines closer to its allies more than ever.

The Philippines, despite being a predominantly Catholic country, accepted refugees of different backgrounds.
1923: White Russians during the Russian Revolution. Only the Philippines accepted them.
1934-1940: the Jews from Austria/Germany during the Holocaust when many countries declined to help. How the Philippines saved 1,200 Jews during Holocaust
1939: Spanish republicans, after the Spanish Civil War (Republicans vs. Nationalists)
1940: Chinese refugees after the Nanking Massacre and expansion of Japanese Empire.
1947: “white Russians” (Russians, Ukrainians, Polish, Armenians, Turko Tatars, Lithuanians, Latvians, Estonians, Romanians, Czechs and Yugoslavs, Hungarians, Germans, and Austrians) after the creation of the People’s Republic of China. A forgotten episode in Russian history leaves links with the Philippines
1975-1992: Vietnamese boat people after the Vietnam War. A Vietnamese refugee camp was opened.
1979: anti-Khomeini Iranian students during the Iranian Revolution. PH-Iran celebrate 50 years of warm relations
1980-1994: Indochinese refugees from Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos. There were ESL (English as a second language) and primary education classes.
2000: East Timorese refugees during the 1999 East Timorese crisis
2014: the Muslims from Myanmar and Bangladesh during the Rohingya refugee crisis, after being rejected by Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia. Philippines to accept refugees stuck at sea after being rejected across south-east Asia. The neighboring countries only changed their minds when the Philippines, a poorer country, decided to help.

To clarify, the so-called "nine-dash line" was first published by the Republic of China (Taiwan) in 1947. When it comes to historical claims about the Spratly Islands, the Philippines has solid and undeniable evidence. Notably, in 1734, Jesuit Father Murillo Velarde created the first and most important scientific map of the Philippines, which clearly includes all the islands in the Spratlys.
Moreover, according to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), to which China is a signatory, every coastal nation is entitled to a 200-nautical-mile Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). This international law supersedes any historical claims, including China’s nine-dash line.
The Philippines, therefore, has every right to defend its EEZ based on these international laws. Any attempts to cast the Philippines as a pawn of the US are misguided. The Philippines and the US have been allies since World War II, sharing a common commitment to protecting democracy. Our historical partnership was forged in our mutual struggle for freedom, and it’s natural for the Philippines to align with a superpower that helps safeguard our shared values.
China's actions, including recent incursions and aggressive behavior in the West Philippine Sea, are concerning. Xi Jinping’s previous commitment to former US President Barack Obama not to militarize the man-made islands has been disregarded. This broken promise reflects poorly on China's reputation as a regional peacemaker and highlights their inconsistent adherence to international rules.
In light of these issues, it’s clear that China’s actions often contradict their stated intentions, revealing a troubling pattern in their approach to regional stability and international norms.

@@JonSnow-z5q It is important to note that UNCLOS is a treaty created after the 9-dash line map. And many countries including the US do not recognize the treaty. China may also withdraw from the treaty as needed, UN treaties are not law, the US and western powers regularly withdraw from them.
Ultimately, if you claim it you have to back it up militarily.

    • @JonSnow-z5q
      @JonSnow-z5q Місяць тому +6

@@olderchin1558 as mentioned, the Murillio Velarde map which was dated on 1734, long before the 9 dash line was created, the map clearly shows all the islands which is also known the spratlys are part of the Philippine archipelago. In terms of backing it up militarily, haven’t you noticed that many western powers and even the likes of Japan, South Korea and even Israel is backing up the Philippines militarily. India made its ever first sale of brahmos missiles to the Philippines, why is that? Do you think its a coincidence? I think not. This are like minded countries whose at stake is not just their own interest but the greater interest of freedom and democracy. Have you not noticed that Australia and New Zealand are not just vocal about their support to the Philippines, they are also collaborating militarily and sooner, they too will have a mutual defense treaty with the Philippines. Because they know, the first island chain which Taiwan is part of, should be kept check and remain to be independent whoever seats in the White House. This also makes Japan now beefing up its military spending which is now 3rd highest in world ranking. What made this behavior so apparent to many regional powers in Asia Pacific, the answer is China. It sees China as a regional threat. And I wouldn’t be surprise if there will be a NATO type of alliance here in Asia. China is pushing its neighbors to create alliances which China furiously condemns.

@@JonSnow-z5q I would agree with you if you were dealing with Iran or Japan. China is a nuclear superpower with the world's largest industry power. It makes its own weapons. You don't scare a superpower, you just anger it. Russia is a fine example.
And if all the countries you mentioned amounted to hill of beans, maybe. And if there were something to lose, maybe. The US removed most of the incentives for china to be good with it's coalition of anti-china gang and sanctions.
In case you haven't noticed, Xi is preparing for war with China stockpiling stuff, accelerating BRICS and BRI.

China’s methodology is very simple, build a big naval fleet and intimidate their neighbours into submission. Their motives are also quite clear, to establish their backyard fencing as far out as possible, even though it intrudes into their neighbours own territory. What is not clear is whether they are willing to sacrifice their blood and future because, even with all their superiority in numbers, a quick victory is not guaranteed. Most of their neighbours, with smaller militaries, are not willing to enter into any conflict even with the US forces but they will certainly act in unison when they are pushed because they have coordinated their forces with each other.

Okay, I'm going to comment here before Chinese bots overwhelm the comment section.
Let me put this into context... For a moment, I want you all to set aside all politics, and try to level with me here as a human that has a thinking brain up your head. Imagine yourself in the position of the Philippines, you're poor and got many economic and political problems already. Then almost out of nowhere, here comes a rising global power that for some reason seems intent to rob you of one of your key areas that you rely on for your energy, food security, and national security. Most investors won't invest in you because your electricity is more expensive than other counties in the same region, you could drill for oil and gas in your own sea but China won't allow you because of an imaginary 9-dash line that somehow means that your sea is not yours, and it's China's instead. And then there the issue of your fisherfolk, a lot of folks relies on fishing just to get by, then somehow starting these past decade, China start restricting and driving away your people from their traditional fishing grounds, where they have been fishing from for generations. You know China is much bigger, wealthier, and stronger than you. But you, as a sovereign country, with your own identity and rich history, also have a right to exist and prosper, just as China had. What do you do?
We made do with what we had. We got a mutual defense treaty with the US since 1951, long before Xi Jinping, long before China even set its sight to its "South Sea". We know that the US is the only one capable of checking China and ensure that it doesn't do anything too dangerously aggressively hostile. We pivoted to the west not because we wanted to, we did because China pushed us! We tried to deal with them bilaterally as they wanted but they kept bullying us and imposed unfair status quo on us. We're acting on for OUR national interests, not for the US's. That's the important thing that the media fails to emphasize enough, the Philippines is acting on its own agency, not the US's. This is about the Philippines and China! It just so happens that there is also a strategic competition between China and the US. Acting to defend our sovereignity and national interests is NOT being a puppet to the US!

The Philippines keeps accusing China of “ bullying and intimidating smaller countries” without mentioning at all the Philippine occupation of and encroachment on China’s territory in Nansha Qundao. That is a real propaganda “trap”. On the issue of Ren’ai Jiao, it’s not the size, but the behavior of a country that determines who is right and who is wrong.
Right after the Philippines deliberately grounded its warship on Ren’ai Jiao in 1999, which seriously violated China’s sovereignty, China made démarches to the Philippines, and the Philippines promised to tow away the warship several times. A senior official of the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs made it clear that the Philippines had no intention of building any facility on Ren’ai Jiao and it doesn’t want to and will not be the first country to violate the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC). But 25 years on, not only hasn’t the Philippines fulfilled its promise to tow away the warship, it has even attempted to send construction materials for large-scale repair and reinforcement of the warship in order to build permanent structures on Ren’ai Jiao. The Philippines has gone back on its words, and stirred up trouble to provoke China. This is not only breach of the understandings between the two sides on handling the Ren’ai Jiao issue, but also a violation of the DOC, especially its Article 5 on refraining from action of inhabiting on the presently uninhabited islands, reefs, shoals, cays, and other features. The Philippines is clearly responsible for the current tensions in the South China Sea.
China and ASEAN countries have long been committed to properly managing and resolving disputes through dialogue and consultation between states directly involved, and worked together to jointly maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea, which has kept the South China Sea generally stable. But for some time, the Philippines has been pulling non-regional actors into the South China Sea affairs to back Philippine provocations and violation of China’s sovereignty. The Philippines has been pursing selfish gains at the expense of the consensus reached by countries in the region. This is the main reason why the situation in the the South China Sea has escalated and become more complicated.
The Philippines need to respect the facts, observe the relevant understandings between the two sides and DOC provisions, follow the consensus reached between China and ASEAN countries, and return to the right track of properly managing and resolving disputes through dialogue and consultation as soon as possible.

I'm putting this here to help clarify the Philippines' position to others, even if this comment is very likely to get hidden, or flooded by Wumao/Makapili trolls, and bots, because the Philippines is worth it.
    1. China is subject to the arbitral court ruling because it is a SIGNATORY to the UNCLOS, and did not exempt itself upon signing from compulsory arbitration on the topic of under which this issue falls, UNLIKE what it did for other topics covered by the UNCLOS.
    2. That the PH is "making a fuss at the behest of the US all of a sudden" is complete nonsense. The Philippines kicked out the US bases in the 90's, after we peacefully revolted and kicked out a US-backed leader who had ruled for 20 years. Years later, while the PH was embroiled in fighting insurgents, and internal disputes, China rapidly seized and militarized islands and geographic features in the region. In response, we grounded a WW2 ship, we couldn't afford doing anything at the scale and sophistication China was doing unprovoked. Nonetheless, things cooled down and we had a peaceful, friendly, and productive relationship with China in the several years that followed. US military presence in the area was limited to anti-terrorism, but that was when the whole world was participating in the War on Terror. In 2013, while the PH was still fighting internal conflicts and had utterly neglected its navy, and the South China Sea issue was dormant, China, completely unprovoked, suddenly SEIZED a shoal that could have the capital metropolitan area within MISSILE range, leading to a ridiculous standoff where China outnumbered a lone warship dozens, if not hundreds to one. The US got the PH to try and back away at the same time as China, but China stealthily returned and coopted the island. The US, and other Asian countries tried to tell the PH to NOT bring the case to an international court, but we won and now Malaysia, and Vietnam want to replicate it. Obama called what we lost "a bunch of rocks" and were off focused in the Middle East. We had SIX YEARS of Duterte, who driven by adamant anti-American sentiment, and in part because of his strongman-populist style of politics, felt a keen sense of admiration and kinship with China, and Russia. He almost terminated the entire MDT and diplomatic relationship between PH and US, and wound down and even skipped the annual military exercises for one year. He limited Navy patrols to the Territorial Sea of the Philippines (12nm from shore), and left the entire EEZ (200nm from shore) almost unprotected. What did China do? They scammed Duterte by funding almost NONE of the infrastructure investment programs they pledged to, they SUNK some fishermen's boat and left them for dead (they had to be rescued by the Vietnamese Coast Guard) and Duterte and his Pro-China camp were DISCOURAGING these fishermen from speaking up, or taking legal action. China continued to militarize the area, they overfish in our waters, AND they poison corral reefs either in an attempt to reduce Filipino fishermen presence and make the area easier to annex, or to help in military reclamation and construction. Duterte only wised up and began procurement against China's maritime encroachment in the LAST TWO out of six years of his term, and even then to practically full exclusion of the USA. To this day, China's coast guard is composed of armed, military-operations-spec warships painted white rather than civilian search and rescue and law enforcement, accompanied by armed militias commissioned to loiter to passively assert Chinese claims, and to help in harassment of Filipino vessels. Marcos won the 2022 elections with a message that he would continue Duterte's appeasement policy, but upon visiting Beijing and meeting with Xi Jinping, he was met with the same pledges, WHICH DID NOT MATERIALIZE, and CONTINUED harassment and annexation and blockading by China. SO OF COURSE he rekindled the relationship with the US, why WOULDN'T any Filipino head of state do that given the circumstances???
    3. The Philippines was building alliances and advocating its cause mostly to other democratic states for years before the US finally came around and realized how bad the situation was. We were advocating for this EVEN BEFORE the US cared, or paid attention, or began thinking to help us. We were building networks with Australia, Japan, etc. to create a bulwark of democratic states at risk of being dominated by China even without the US. So no, this isn't a unilateral initiative masterminded by Americans, it's cooperation by free Asian-Oceanian states who don't want to suffer Colonialism 2.0. Trust us, we know what it's like, and we can tell the difference between foreign states working with us, or using us.
    4. I don't know why every time the US is brought up in the Philippines, international media brings such a massive spotlight on that group of protesters (the ones protesting US presence), when those are militant far-left protesters who are not credible, or popular, and generally scoffed at by the general public, and have protested just about everything the PH government has ever done, good, or bad, on EVERY issue since the Cold War. The statistics are RIGHT THERE to show how out of touch. The only time they get clout is when they lay exclusive claim to the entire discourse and advocacies that the general public sympathizes on, but always link it to leftist politics. The left in the Philippines perceive ANY interaction by the PH with any Western state as somehow an exact replication of CIA-backed Cold-War black operations, ironically painting the PH as having zero agency in the conduct of its own state affairs. They are disturbingly far more quiet against China's outright blockading, militarization, and annexing of our waters than rotational American presence on PHILIPPINE bases (I make ZERO excuse for American atrocities during the PH-US War, and Cold War manipulation, but these are different times, different dynamics, and different problems, something the far left in the PH are painfully loathe to even recognize). But make no mistake, the far left and the pro-China Duterte camps, although sharing certain ideological leanings, are bitterly against one another. If international media (or even domestic media) knew better, they would have focused on statistics, and the civic groups like Atin 'To since they are better gauges of true public sentiment, and efforts regarding the issue, representing a wider economic, geographic, and political spectrum of the PH in support of this issue. The far left always claim we should be able to defend ourselves by ourselves, but are the same guys who would say like our military deserves zero budget, make no mention of defense procurement, and never even think of domestic security manufacturing, and industry, and never mention building alliances, and networks with other democratic neighbors.
    5. To counter the Chinese colonel's mentioning of the killing of Chinese, Taiwanese persons out at sea, if you look up Guang Da Xing No. 28 incident, or how our Coast Guard Commodore already answered the colonel in an international conference, the PH already CONVICTED and IMPRISONED the perpetrators, issued a FORMAL APOLOGY to Taiwan, and paid damages. The Philippines, for all its faults, is a responsible member of the international community, and we are a pioneer state with an outsized contribution to the development of international law despite our size, and military power relative to other giants.
    6. The MDT is always active in the sense that it is a legal framework by which US, and the PH can continuously talk and coordinate as to how to make a coordinated response to any military threat. Given that the PH, and the US DON'T WANT A WAR, and we're trying not to get baited by China into firing the first shot, OF COURSE we don't run around treating the MDT like a magical WW3 button. We know it's a trap, and and if we fall for it our moral, political, and security gains from years of hard work can vanish in a flash. We Filipinos HATE war, and we're sick and tired of it, but we hate colonialism, and foreign invasion even more.
    7. Chinese token military contributions to the PH are pathetically negligible, mostly not compatible with the rest of our logistical chain rendering them limited in usefulness, and more expensive, difficult to maintain, and none of which contribute to the greatest geopolitical, economic, and existential threat to out nation's future: China's annexation in the SCS.
    8. The "West Philippine Sea" (Philippine term) is a technical term that refers to a SUBSET of the South China Sea (international name based on geography, NOT political entitlement of China) which falls within the Philippines' EEZ under UNCLOS. Unlike China, we do not claim an entire sea as our territory as if it were a lake, but rather part of it as our legal maritime entitlement.

@@nnqi3475 "The Chinese sovereignty over the islands and reefs also allows the Chinese to own the EEZ around the Nansha Islands, so the West Philippine Sea that the Philippines has been claiming is complete nonsense."
This is false for many different reasons.
First of all, claims of sovereignty without permanent habitat is pretty much empty claim.
Second, by UNCLOS, reefs, shoals and artificial islands do not cause EEZ, so even if somehow world accepted China's claims of sovereignty over shoals that have never had permanent habitation, it wouldn't give China any EEZ in the area.
Third, i'm pretty sure nobody is ever going to accept China's claims of empty ocean with reefs, shoals and artificial islands and even less so considering the shoal in question is 1000km from China but within EEZ of Philippines

@@nnqi3475 No treaty ever gave any of these islands and geographical features to China, be it PRC or ROC, as even the Imperial Japanese did not relinquish control TO the ROC once it surrendered. Hainan is the limit of official territory historically claimed and controlled by China by their own maps. The historical claim is neither factually credible to the wider academe nor legally acceptable to a tribunal of international law. The Philippines has exercised jurisdiction over it as evidenced by official cartographical, and hydrographical of the exact islands and features as part of the archipelago for over a century. The Philippines did not start the escalation, as it is ridiculous to claim that mere DISAGREEMENT by itself is an act of aggression or escalation, as without such negotiation would not even be a thing. China is the one that MILITARIZED and SEIZED these islands and features FROM OTHER NEIGHBORING STATES, even when there is no military threat posed, or escalatory threats posed by its neighbors.
You only say what I wrote is "too long", and you'll only respond to the last part because the PRC has absolutely no credible, sensible, and justifiable claim to the area. To claim SCS is only 'partly' claimed by China is splitting hairs at this point - that it attempts to annex practically ALL of it as to be neck and neck with territorial sea (12nm) of each neighbor despite far exceeding Hainan's EEZ is in and of itself an act of blatant expansionist imperialism. "Wishful thinking" is when someone's distorted view of reality and cognitive dissonance leads it to have a position incongruent with reality, shown by how no one, not even China's 'allies' believe China's ridiculous claims for even a second. But what do we expect from an ideologically authoritarian, one-party state?
You guys are acting just like Imperial Japan of WW2, who both of our countries fought against.

It was April 22-23, 1951 during the Battle of Yultong in the Korean War, a vastly outnumbered 900 Philippine Army batallion troopers (part of the UN forces) fought and defeated a 40,000 strong division of China’s People’s Liberation Army (fighting with the North Korean forces). The Chinese retreated after 500 of them were killed. Two dozen Filipinos died as heroes. China today must think twice before fighting again the vastly outnumbered but braver professional Filipino soldiers.

I understand why Philippines wants to claim the South China Sea islands. After all it’s very near the Philippines shores. But I have one question: since when the Philippines started to claim the islands? They were certainly not part of the Paris Treaty signed by Spain and the USA in 1898 which transferred the Philippines’ sovereignty from Spain to the USA, nor was it in the Mutual Defence Treaty of 1951 between the Philippines and the U.S. I have a Philippine map printed in the 1990s which indicates the western boundary lines clearly exclude any of these islands.

    • @FunnyValentineD4C-LT
      @FunnyValentineD4C-LT 2 місяці тому +1

1900 Treaty of Washington is never mentioned because China realized it misinterpreted it. Also the US realized 2 years after 1898 that Spain nearly screwed them over an additional sets of islands and waters and wanted them too. Hence why that 1900 treaty was declared. Asides ,those CFMs clowns kept mentioning how the Philippines is territory is binded by 3 treaties and yet after I looked into it ...that 10 dash-line STILL illegally intersects into Philippine sovereignty and Malaysia's. So it's hypocritical. People have caught on.

The 9-dash line merely demarcates the SCS islands claimed by China since 1945 after Japan surrendered the islands.
“Professor Robert Beckman, ISEAS July 2016:
      “DISPUTES ON TERRITORIAL SOVEREIGNTY
The Philippines did not raise any issue with respect to which state had a superior claim to sovereignty over the islands in the South China Sea. This is because an Arbitral Tribunal established under UNCLOS can only consider disputes on the interpretation or application of UNCLOS, and UNCLOS contains no provisions on how to resolve sovereignty issues.
Therefore, the award of the tribunal does not address the underlying dispute in the South China Sea - the competing claims to sovereignty over the islands.
Further, although the tribunal found that China’s claim to historic rights in the 9 dash line is not compatible with UNCLOS, it did not rule that the nine-dash line per se is illegal or invalid. China is under no obligation to formally denounce the nine-dash line.
The nine-dash line is still relevant because it shows the location of the various islands in the South China Sea over which China claims sovereignty.”

The playbook is pretty simple China supports Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine assuming that war would greatly occupy US military. However, the US is totally focused on Chinese military aggression. If you look at WWII the US spent most of its resources and certainly its blood in the Pacific Theater. Unfortunately Ukraine is getting tech that is 30-50 years old.
However, Asia is getting western tech that is new or 20 years old.
Donald Trump sold more military equipment to Taiwan than all US presidents combined.
Trump's VP is on the leash of Peter Thiel a large owner of one of the largest private military companies who's entire military and software offerings are almost 100% designed to automate the defense of Taiwan.
These same systems could be deployed in the Phillipines and Ukraine.

Carta Hydrographica y Chorographica de las Islas Filipinas (Spanish, lit. "Hydrographical and Chorographical Chart of the Philippine Islands"), more commonly known as the Velarde map, is a map of the Philippines made and first published in Manila in 1734 by the Jesuit cartographer Pedro Murillo Velarde, the engraver Nicolás de la Cruz Bagay, and the artist Francisco Suárez.[2][3] The World Digital Library describes it as the "first and most important scientific map of the Philippines".[4] It is frequently referred to as the "Mother of all Philippine Maps".

People must understand that the International Arbitration Court is a private entity and is not an institution of the UN like the ICJ or the ICC. In a arbitration case, both or more parties involved agreed to bring and settle their problems in the IAC or other court of arbitration like in Singapore. If all parties are agreeable then the Court verdict is legally binding on all parties. Note that China didn't agree to arbitrate as apparently China is already aware this western run private institution verdict will not be in China favour. In short, the IAC verdict in favour of the Philippines is not binding. Taiwan even didn't accept the IAC verdict. Never be fooled by thinking that the IAC is an international institution because it's not.

The domestic helper, employed by a Hong Kong family through a local employment agency, started showing symptoms such as red spots and swelling in her limbs within weeks of starting her job. Her condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to her admission to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with leprosy on 14th June, 2024, believed to have been contracted in her home country, the Philippines.
