- From his early days with British blues-rock powerhouse Humble Pie to the stratospheric, multi-platinum success of Frampton Comes Alive, there's no mistaking his soaring and skillfully-crafted guitar playing. Peter Frampton discusses his remarkable career, shares guitar tips and tricks, and talks about his new album Thank You Mr. Churchill.
This guy is so awesome. The talk box is so cool. Peter Frampton is the Man.
The sound is so awesome and intriguing. I'll never forget the first time I heard Do You Feel Like I Do. My first reaction was utter silence hearing something that absolutely drew my ears to this very unique sound. This was about 30+ years ago and until today I had no idea what it was or how it functioned
Peter Frampton and David Gilmour are undoubtedly the most melodic guitarist I've ever heard!
Totally agree
True Sir, and I'm a drummer. These guys are a gift to the ear, simply amazing.
Keep Talking from Division Bell/ pulse tout is, for me, the most divine talk box solo ever. My taste but really crazy, makes me goosebumps and tears
Is this guy the most easy going and humble rock star there is?
+MrPisster Top three for sure. Mr. Gibbons and Slash are up there as well. Slash is super fucking chill and very easy going. And master Gibbons is a great example of a southern gentleman. Master Frampton is among the many musicians that i wish my folks listened to. Musically the best thing they exposed me to is Simon and Garfunkel, whom i hold in high regard. Other than them, their record collections from the 1960's and 70's was terrible. Like Peter, paul and fucking mary and John Denver. Just the most boring and unengaging music out there. And they were in their youth during the 60's and 70's. No Frampton, no Cream, no Zepp or Jimi or Sabbath. But Peter, Paul and fucking Mary! Not even the Beatles or Rolling Stones! I am only 35 and i have more knowledge and appreciation for that era of brilliance than they do!
+Jaymzofsteel yea man, we are the same age. My parents were a bit more hip I guess. No pink floyd but led zeppelin, the beatles, stevie wonder, some disco, some jazz.
yeh..he"s had to eat a lot of humble pie ...ahem, ..sorry
Mikael Akerfeldt.
he showed me the way ?
Love Pete Framp! I feel so privileged to have seen him twice in concert in my life. The second time I saw him what's a double bill with the band Yes and with me that evening was my 12 year old daughter. She was blown away with Peter Frampton's performance. I had to help her pick her jaw up from the floor when the show ended. All she could say was " awesome, just awesome!"
She got a gift that day. You don't have to listen too long to know the guy is a class act.
Dude. Frampton is a DELIGHT. I could listen to him tell war stories all day.
Saw him on his last big tour a few years ago in Concord, CA and he would tell the most interesting stories in-between songs about Humble Pie and the 70's, very good story teller, played a killer set too.
Saw him in 1976 at Wembley when I was a 16 year old spotty oik. Chuffed that he hasn't lost his British accent over the years. Good on him.
Only regret I have never got to see this guy live. What a humble man, and a great talent that truly influenced a generation of musicians like me. Frampton Alive. Who hasn't heard that fantastic album?
is it just me, or does somebody else want to hear "Show Me The Way" with a little more talkbox like he did in the last bit?
ok
Dammit! I demand someone to make this!
What a great musician and a great person.
Still gorgeous after all these years, voice, music and the man!
gulie8 even sexier here
I've watched this a time or two.. i think i just like the sound of Pete's voice..
I saw him in Lincoln Nebraska in 1976 or 7, what a great time it was! Thanks!!!
This guy is so chill.
I loved the 'voice box,' when Frampton's solo repeated, "It's Alright... It's Alright... Good Times, Good Times..." b/c it was soothing, calming, & classic: the sound worth chasing a lifetime after :)🌠🎶✨🌏
When I was a kid, before ever hearing of a talk box, I used to play small speakers and tweeters and put them to my mouth and do much the same. White noise or static from the radio was best because it was a huge composite of different frequencies and made for hours of acoustic fun!
Interesting
What a legend, and he seems like the nicest guy on the planet. Nice.
I was watching this video by myself, but I still shouted “yah!” and fist pumped when he asked if anyone wanted to hear the voice box!!!
This guy is awesome
Always king of the talk box
Great mister FRAMPTON !!!!!
I see show in Rio de Janeiro - 1981 !!!!!!!
Congrats from Brasil !!!!!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you Peter for 'I'm in You'. It made rainy days in downtown Scranton in 1975 more bearable
Not trying to be a stickler, but I’m In You wasn’t released until 1977...But I loved it too. 👍
Wow! Really nice to see how engaging and easy going Peter Frampton is.
I love Peter Frampton
lowkey cant stop watching him and the talkbox
lol, love it. Turns out, he's a gentleman and a great story teller too.
I first heard 'Show Me The Way', by Peter, while listening to the original Radio Caroline, broadcasting from the good ship Miamigo, when they were highlighting 'Frampton Comes Alive' when it first came out in the 70s. Those were the days!
God I love this man!
talkbox is hardest on a guitar, props to frampton. its good to hear him recognize peter drake, and the man who invented it alvino ray, didnt know about him. pure genious that invention is.
DUDE YOU ARE A BIG DEAL TO MY EXPERIENCE WITH MUSIC ,YOU PETER ARE THE ONE THAT MADE ME THINK ,I WANT TO BE A ROCK STAR AND THE REST IS HISTORY.I FOUND THIS VID BECAUSE I WAS THINKING ABOUT YOURE TALKBOX WORK
awesome thank you for posting thank you pf....legend
I just recently got a Talk Box and i've found myself forgetting to breathe when I'm using it, I'm glad I'm not the only one! lol
What a nice guy!
I recall being a young boy of the 1970s & hearing Peter Frampton sing on local radio… hearing this different usual mesmerizing sound like a combo of his voice & a guitar… at 8-9, 10 years old I didn’t have a clue what it was,
Only that it was super 😎 cool & I liked it.❤
Good to know he holds his breath when he uses it...i do exactly the same thing...talk boxes are great fun.
Peter Frampton is apparently the nicest guy ever.
One of my first crushes, still got it boy, happy days for ever
When Frampton Comes Alive! came out in 1976, every band playing high school dances had to learn all of those tunes. I was in high school myself and couldn't afford the Heil Sound version of the talk box, so I made my own out of a piece of plastic tubing from the local hardware store, and a 15-watt horn from Radio Shack; the whole outfit probably cost $20.
"You don't turn down a Beatle..." Ha, ha....
Peter Frampton and Joe Walsh are noted for making use of this, and I remember David Gilmour used it on Pink Floyd's Animals album.
Made one of these 30 years ago, from a old Pa horn, took off the wave guide, and hot glued the pvc to a pop bottle cap which screwed onto the horn;s waveguide threads, hooked it up to my guitar amp, and wholla! voice box.
I gotta get me one of these! And Peter is one of my guitar heros.
Peter frampton is such a cool guy what I wouldn't do to ask him what it was like in the 70s
is The Best on Talk Box , Frampton Forever , Great Melodic Guitarist
Roger Troutman would like a word with you.
Chasing the sound sounds like when u chasing a firefly and u finally caught it and as u observed it over the beauty of sounds & the fires glistening u finally let it go to continue the beauty just like your songs do 🎶
Great guitarest, Great man
I was fortunate enough to see him on his Farewell Tour Last July in Philadelphia at The Met theatre with Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience Band. The most memorable 2.5 hours of my life :)!!!! Also saw him back in July 2000 or thereabouts. Humble and brilliant!
this is awesome and so informative i now i always wanted to know what this thing was and now i know and i think im going to buy one from guitar center
It was Bob Heil who invented the talk box. He is in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for many of his contributions to music and is an accomplished organist as well. I have been a ham radio operator for over 50 years as has Bob and I have met him many times at ham radio events. His company, Heil Sound, makes the best quality audio equipment in the world. His microphones are designed to suit the individual operator just like someone getting measured for a custom made suit. One of the finest persons I've ever met and very generous with his time.
Frampton, gracious and timeless.
This man is a treasure!
i was reading a book called how to wreck a nice beach and was reading about peter once thought roger troutman was using a vocoder on more bounce to the ounce and was told that it was actually a talkbox.he was amazed by the technique of roger's skilled but in all roger gives peter and stevie his interest in th ebox..nice story.love the post.
I so remember radio Luxenberg when I lived in England they had all the best music! Peter Frampton not only a great guitar player but a cool cat!

Peter Frampton and Daft Punk!!!!!!
oow yeah! :)
I absolutely love Daft Punk, and I guess they were smart enough to embrace this technology
*cough* Zapp and Roger *cough*
Hard not to love Peter framptonn.
Icon. Legend.
Love Frampton!
Cincinnati Great Guy. Awesome
The last 30 seconds made me melt
What respect not only for their talent, but by giving back explaining, or sharing knowledge on equipment I (we) always wondered about, and totally dug. On another note; it appears in a rather good way (for his sake) he appears not to have done any drugs. (I may sound like a nut, but too many of our artists got lost along the way, and I'm glad P.F. still appears healthy).
Frampton is extremely good, at at discusses his life!
Jeff Beck used the sound of the Talkbox before Framp did and funnily he didn't mention him.
But i like Frampton's sincerity and he's a great jazz guitarist inspite of all the gimmicks..
super artista 70 80 y 90 s
My hero
“FRAMPTON COVES ALIVE’ was recorded near where I went to high school, at the Cormack Arena…which was actually an ice skating rink! For concerts, they would throw plywood over the ice. But the first 100 people thru the door would grab the plywood soff the back half of the rink, to double it up in the front, so it wasn’t so cold to stand or sit on….which left the back half of the audience standing or sliding ON the ice all night long! Adds a whole new image to “Do you feel like I do?” No?
Yeah take a look at Pete Drakes "Forever" on you tube. He was and still is is the only pedal steel guitarist to sell a million records with an instrumental, such a simple thing but so powerful a sound.
Pete Drake was a legend in the Nashville scene and he was so much in demand he was doing five recording sessions a day during the 1960s and early 70s.
This is so cool, and he's so goofy i love it hahahahahha
LINDO DEMAISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Peter u don’t have to explain yourself we love ❤️ u and enjoy listening to your music ALWAYS AND FOREVER LOVE HEARING YOUR STORIES AND MY GOSH U AMAZING 🫠
@natdogg12342, it's the intro of "Show Me the Way"
I had a Rocktron Banshee talk box and that tubing had a vinyl smell to it. I'm sure the Framptone does too.
Such a kind and decent man m
Peter😘😘😘
EPIC
@7:02 I google searched where to buy talk box and bought one
FRAMPTON...WORD.
❤❤❤
GOD I WANT ONE!!!!!! But I need one that I can use on both a keyboard and a guitar if that's not how they already are. Anybody know of the best one?
you can buy a Dunlop Hile Talk Box similar to Frampton's, or you can buy his signature Frampton talk box, or you can make with a horn driver and make one.
Yeah you could just buy a good one or make a cheapo. And there's adapters for everything, so you could use it with anything really. But be careful, they're addicting.
Kevin Sandstrom he wasn't attacking you...
I don't take to kindly when people say building one means it's 'cheap', I made one and I'm proud of it and I don't want someone calling it 'cheap'
but monetarily, it's cheaper. he didn't knock the quality.
6:57 Was that a guitar burp? I didn't know guitars could do that.
Thought it was guitar diarrhea myself.
@@magneto7930 Guitar diarrhea? Is that even possible?
I’ll bet he drooled a lot
So high, Pete... 4'13'' :) Good!
maybe, but I'm sure he cleans it a lot. BTW do you know anywhere in Colorado who gives talk box lessons? I just got a talk box for Christmas, but I don't really know how to use it.
What a god!!!
radio Luxembourg...…….gis would not have heard any groups without it...….I being a gi at the time loved it...……..not far from luxenbourg……….USAF.....70-73...……..
jeff beck with the black les paul and talkbox had to be some influence on ole pete... same deal really. check beck out in '73 doin it and he was a stevie associate as well soooooo
9:27 :D I love this part
The Osmonds in the movie it shows one of them using the voice box
PETER, VOCÊ É CONTAGIANTE, SORRISO DOS DEUSES!
Joe Walsh said he taught Frampton how to use the talkbox. He also thought he should have gotten more credit for it when Frampton turned around and made a bijilion dollars off of Frampton Comes Alive.
What kind of amp is that to the left of frampton? The one with the silver face that looks sort of like a television
Maybe a magnatone?
It's a vintage Silvertone
Why would he mention Roger Troutman when he was never influenced by him? Roger Troutman however was influenced by Peter Frampton who was using it before Zapp and Roger. Know your music and FYI, Roger even talks about this in an old BET interview
Man , Peter Frampton, what a legend. Love his comment in reference radio back in the day, “the one channel, and um heheh, so they had a lot of power”. He was probably monetarily raped by the record companies for his talent too no doubt. Pay to play and all that bs.
super
Can someone get me a little tab excerpt, to do the " show me the way" thing he did on his talkbox? Cuz in the real song, he doesnt do that :_) please help thnx
Fantastic stuff! What a nice guy, and what a talent Peter is... \m/ (:o)
Mr Harper performed by Jeannie C. Riley used a talk box.
Really?? 12 thumbs down/??
He's clearly lived in the US for a long time. He says 'Aaaand' a lot.
If I had a dollar for every time he said "uh/um" lol
+jagarza1981 - Yeah, sure. Learn all of the leads in "Do You Feel Like We Do" and "Lines On My Face" from Frampton Comes Alive... then post a video of you playing them perfectly, and then we'll talk.
