I’m 48 years old now, I remember being absent from school when tales of creation was released, I just had to get it, I was mesmerised by the band… good old days
My great great uncle is Thomas Cole- painter for the nightfall album and a few others they have used. Mind blown when I did a genealogy report on 7th grade when that album came out. Best doom album EVER is Epicus doomicus metallicus. Followed very closely by nightfall.
Great retrospective video, bro! Great job! It made me laugh so hard when you didn't even wanted to try to pronunce Swedish words. I'm from Stockholm, Sweden. Thanks for a good laugh. Cheers!
I admire your work you put alot of effort into these videos and you seem to be very energetic doing this series, glad to see quality over content factor when it comes to this
I like your passion for Candlemass! You have great taste, they are clearly one of the most talented and underrated metal bands out there. Too bad they can't keep a singer permanently in their band.
The guitar player in Abstract Algebra is Mike Weed. Mike Weed was also the guitar player in Memento Mori which was Messiah's band you mentioned. For those who did not know already.
@@subixbarbarasson2544 Mike Weed was on Dead again and 9 from Merciful Fate and has been the 2nd guitar player in King Diamond since the Abigail 2 album.
Another relation. The Drummer on the first 2 Memento Mori albums was Snowy Shaw. He played with King Diamond (replacing Micky Dee) and played in Merciful Fate in the early 90s.
Dude thanks for introducing me to this band. I've been trying to branch out away from thrash. You can only learn so many Megadeth songs before your fingers start to fall off. This band should be fun to learn from. I love Messiah's voice.
Awesome band. One of my faves from the 80s era. Epic doom. Normally into thrash but Candlemass is just brilliant. 👌 Had Tales Of Creation on cassette tape, yea I'm old 😅
Could anyone tell me what vocal effects they used for Johan's studio vocals on Epicus? Because his live vocals are different and wondered why he doesn't sound like that anymore?
I honestly think they layered the hell out of it, put a lot of reverb and chorus, and pitch shifted it, I did this to a demo he recorded after and I got something that sounded pretty similar.
DownFall NetWork yeah, especially in the Demos for Chapter VI he sounds completely different, I questioned whether it was him or not cause he sings so high in those demos, it's mind boggling Also yeah it would be cool to get an interview with him, thanks for responding.
I remember seeing bewitched for the 1st time. I thought it was the dumbest video ever. I couldnt take any of it seriously. Music was too slow for me at the time too. But now looking back, i kinda get the music and definitely see the charm of it all finally.
I like their classic albums a lot, but I also like 13th Sun a lot. The Vocals from 13th Sun sound like Christian Linderson from Count Raven and St Vitus.
The reason i like instrumentals is because it lets me use my imagination, while with lyrics your imagination is guided by what they describe, thats ust me haha. just the other day i sat trough The forest seasons instrumental album, little 420 :D
Candlemass in a nutshell: The fans: this sounds amazing!! The band: shut up, it sounds like shit!! I honestly think that they're one of the most epic metal band of all time though, so if there are enough people who likes it, I guess no one cares if the band thinks they're music is bad. My favorite band is opeth so obviously every band with the gothic and depressing aesthetic and themes is pure poetry to me.
great video! so, basically Johan was never an actual member of the band and never played a live gig with them? From what I understand their very first live show was with Messiah as lead vocalist.
Lowe was the best by far. I could give a flying shit if he had to read the lyrics. I'm fairly pleased with Johan being back although he sounds different from one day to the next, he sounded great on The Door To Doom but he sounds just meh live.
Messiah is a true power house but I hate his live stuff. Too much yeah yeah whatever he yells between verses. Been into candlemass since 86. Heard gallows end on metal compilation cassette. Every year till 90 was awesome stuff. Ancient Dreams was probably my least favorite as a whole out of the 4 classic albums. Darkness in paradise is a monster track. Chapter 6 was awesome too but after that it got stale. They have come full circle as of to date🤘
You forgot to mention Johan sang demos for Chapter VI Btw, why did Leif call it Chapter VI when it's not even the sixth Candlemass album; I could never wrap my head around that?
@@simplebutnotsolongname6642 I never understood that either. Who the hell counts live albums? Aside from getting the number wrong, I always figured it should have been called Volume V, not Chapter V. Homage to Black Sabbath's Volume 4. Anything else would just be a lousy title.
adam wade Calling it Chapter V would still make sense because it's another passage in their career as a band and the band is a single book itself that has yet to close. Besides, there's already enough doom bands having volume in album titles, so it's kind of overdone. Kinda autistic to be saying this let alone bothering to comment on it lol.

Messiah Marcolin and his Opera POT Belly.

Easily the best doom band ever..easily..!!!!
I LOVE Messiah. Such a great singer. On of the best.

always loved the bewitched music video and it is pretty addicting to watch
"The Bleeding Baroness" is a criminally underrated song
I like your passion for Candlemass! You have great taste, they are clearly one of the most talented and underrated metal bands out there. Too bad they can't keep a singer permanently in their band.
Call me crazy, but I really like all the different singers.
Good Job with the video!I like it!
Hope this retro will bewitch us!
Well done on this! I’ll be watching more of your retrospective reviews
I'm a simple man, I see Headless Cross T-Shirt i press like.

One of my favorite bands of ALL TIME!!! I absolutely LOVE Candlemass!!!
Dead actually has an appearance in the bewitched music video

Candlemass were truly original, as was so much albums out then.

Hi, great documentaries..could you do WASP if you like them?
"Ancient Dreams" is a good record that could use a remix and remaster. It sounds like a pre-production demo which I guess essentially it is.
From the 13th sun, the doom album which crashed with a van filled with cymbals
I like their classic albums a lot, but I also like 13th Sun a lot. The Vocals from 13th Sun sound like Christian Linderson from Count Raven and St Vitus.
Definitely an underrated band. Messiah is my favorite for their vocals. If you look on my channel, there is a Candlemass tune I used to do... Cheers

Iron Maiden with Candell opening...
"Bjorn... something." Hahaha!
I know It’s too late to be asking this, but why didn’t you talk about the 20th Anniversary Party DVD?
I think Robert Lowe approached Candlemass the way Warrel Dane did Nevermore

great video! so, basically Johan was never an actual member of the band and never played a live gig with them? From what I understand their very first live show was with Messiah as lead vocalist.
Yes, he's actually back to playing with them somewhat recently, got to watch them live in 2019, was surprised when he introduced himself
That's true. Also Johan never wanted to persue a pop career. That's been a myth since the dawn of time. Johan explains it in interviews.
Lowe was the best by far. I could give a flying shit if he had to read the lyrics. I'm fairly pleased with Johan being back although he sounds different from one day to the next, he sounded great on The Door To Doom but he sounds just meh live.

Btw, why did Leif call it Chapter VI when it's not even the sixth Candlemass album; I could never wrap my head around that?
He also did demos for the self titled, there is no history or explanation behind it still. So I didn't feel like it was worth mentioning yet.
It's called Chapter VI because it is considered the Live of 1990 as the 5° album.
