Here is one actual advice from me for all the Peters in the world:
If your performance is not valued, and you objectively did a great job, yetyour feedback is onesided / truly biased, you can either get internal help, create a mess, get someone to follow you, and succeed or fall, as by the video loyalty seems important to McKinsey than actual work performance. OR you can safe yourself the s'show and find a job outside the toxic consulting sector. Live a happy life, enjoy a boring job that you can build up on and maybe have the luxery thats called work-life-balance.
"If you dont get staffed, its not McKinseys fault, its your fault, because it is how these firms operate."
Am I the only here thinking "well maybe noone should be forced to even work in such a toxic work environment, change the firm's culture then, if you want to keep your employees!"
My reasoning for getting the idea that this videos and MCKinseys work culture is toxic:
This video is very one sided, in a positive and in a negativ way.
So here are the good advices i take from this:
    1. I like the fact that they point out to give your best for your team, which is good, you should include others into your perspective.
    2. They point out to think about how you can work with your seniors and how you can develop the team and contribute to everybodys success story, as it may also become your success story.
    3. The insights of how a team operates as a "family", that they deliver several hints and that you should grasp them.
Well arent there two kinds of family: one that is harmonizing and one that is toxic? Which family are you talking about exactly? Also, if peter really objectively did a good job, then isnt his seniors view biased and isnt this narrators view extremely biased?
I also think this video's messages are just really provocative, coercive BS: you should definitely not give anyone these advices if they are in trouble. As I wrote a master's thesis in control compliance in regards to reward and punishment expectancy and regulatory focus, what you say will make anyone defy organizational rules, and it will be bad for everyone:
    1. This messages of this video and how they tackle the problem are not enabling, they are coercive, Peter's choice set is limited by this video, as he can only strictly follow the very narrow view of the narrators mindset. To improve here: keep your mind open to possibilities, for you, for others, build down toxic work environments and connect with others. If you dont have the strength to do, you can try to find another job, your life matters more than a job.
    2. This video is not objective, it's denying Peter's competence, and nobody will be motivated to follow an organizational guideline if the organization cant provide consise and clear perspectives within their feedback. Improve here: point out what Peter can competently do to achieve whats needed to be done in order to do a great job.
    3. This video is not addressing the harsh reality, that if you drain someones minimal security, he wont show you performance, unless he is trained to do so through his promotion focus. To improve here: How about offering actual help and advice without all that loyatly and family BS?

Thank you so much for spending time and putting thoughts on members' issue. Appreciate what you are doing for the new generation consulting. Listening to this, I not only understand the way senior managers/leaders in management consulting think, but also, (and perhaps more importantly) what standard/value I should live up to ;) "It's not about individuals, it's about the people with whom you work"...

I can related to this topic even though I'm not from the consulting industry, really different mindset change thinking about the 'family' and how to become the best version of you in the situation, rather than just me and jumping ship. It's the real test.

Hi Micheal, thank you for this very insightful content. More often than not, many of the content you release on the podcast have equally life-changing implication for those who work in any great company. What you are suggesting in this episode is a massive paradigm shift -- not always easy to follow but once you take it to heart, you will doors where you have previously seen walls -- and I hope Peter sees it that way.
I believe that the concept of "family" works in many organisation. My biggest takeaway from this podcast are
    1. It is always your fault and never the other person's fault. Until you see it that way, you will continue to lose your ability to grow, improve or even influence the other person.
    2. In a family, you don't look out for yourself. You look out for your family first. Always focus on your team. Understand how they see you and why they see you that way and not how you see yourself.
    3. Even if the next partner gives you a chance, his team is not going to. Again the "team" is greater than the "individual".
Thank you once again for this amazing content, I will be looking for ways beyond consulting practice to implement these principles.
