Do you have any suggestion as to which device would display automatically and within 1-2 seconds? All of what you're talking about here is based on cloud services and sometimes internal network delays. What you could do to test is to take any streaming and lots of devices off of your WiFi and then try and see how quick it pops up. Otherwise, you can try other companies' products. So I bought an Echo Show 5 (slick little device!) and installed it at home, went through this configuration, and now when there is motion or a ring of my Office doorbell at a remote location, my various Echo devices at home announce the motion or ring! That is a huge improvement. But my Show 5 requires that I say "Echo, show Office Doorbell", before it will display the doorbell camera. It will not automatically appear, despite the proper configuration of "Announcements & Live View" for it? Still, this is a huge improvement. Who needs to pay for an alarm now?

Hi. Using a ring cam (not doorbell), I can get the announcement to come up on the Echo Show 8 screen but it won’t live view afterwards. Is this due to it being a camera (not a doorbell) or am I missing a setting somewhere?? Thanks for any help. Trev
No it should be fine! If it doesn't come up afterwards, maybe put a "wait" command into your routine for a few seconds. Also, just try and get it without the announcement first. Get that live view working first as it's the biggest hit to your home's network. Test out and see how long the live view takes to come up too. If it's any longer than 5 seconds, your network or maybe even the transfer of recordings out at the same time is causing it not to work.

Hey my nan has recently bought both the ring door bell and portal how ever while setting them up to show live feeds I can’t find the announcement devices. Time stamp 2:05
In any camera or Doorbell, you'll find the Announcement Devices in the settings of the device. So find the device (camera/doorbell) in the Devices Page of the Alexa app. You'll see the gear icon when you tap into the camera/doorbell and the announcement devices are in there. However, if you're using a Facebook Portal, that's not going to work. This is with an Amazon Echo Show.
There is a workaround... if you are willing to use a Echo Dot to speak the "Alexa, show me the door bell camera" command to the Echo Show via an Alexa Routine
@@AutomateYourLife thank you for your reply! I mean, could we use the "Motion Announcement" to activate Echo Show's live view for the Ring Cameras (Spotlight, Floodlight)?. Thanks!
I’m having trouble connecting my ring doorbell with my google home. Any tips? I did a google search and it’s supposed to be able to connect, no luck yet 😑
I'm going to wait until I see what Wyze offers in a doorbell camera. I need battery operated as there are no doorbell wires here. I don't want to pay subscriptions either. But having a picture come up on my screen (Google or Alexa) without putsching a button or saying anything would be nice.
I think that's fair. I have the Eufy one right now and it is no subscriptions and battery or wired! I think Wyze will do a very similar thing, but have an option for subscription/cloud based recordings.
Wait! I watched and followed along this to find out how to automatically show doorbell video on Alexa Show when the doorbell is pressed. You demonstrated it at the end of the video but didn't talk about the 'extra' setting to make it work. Sorry but I don't know Frank to see what he's done.
Through the Ring Doorbell...I wouldn't expect that anytime soon. This is actually much more based on Alexa then it is Ring and Google hasn't opened up their platform this way. Still, we're waiting on Google Home Routines that allow us to trigger devices, so...when that happens all of this could become available.
Hey friend. I have 3 Harmony Hubs now, I can link one to the Google assistant, and one to IFTTT, for voice assistance. But I can't get my 3rd Harmony Hub to work *BY VOICE* even with IFTTT. I just ordered a Samsung Smartthings Hub, so I'm hoping that would help me. Do you think that would help me get voice assistance on my 3rd hub? Any ideas 💡 🤔?
You can do it with your SmartThings Hub :) You can run activities through SmartThings, therefore you'll be able to trigger them a few ways with Google/Voice.
So this can happen every so often if your WiFi's not up to the job of reporting the press. Are you getting notices from the notification side when it happens?
How do you hook it up by hardwiring it. I saw vid where Casey Neistat uses a Go Pro camera and a 50" t.v he leaves on all the time. That's how he see who comes to the door. Not explained how to do it.
Unfortunately it isn't working for me. I have it set up exactly how you have and I neither get notifications or automatic live view when someone rings the doorbell. The only thing I can do is ask Alexa to show me the front door and then it does give me a live view. This device is driving me insane. I'm certainly not the only person with the problem, their skill reviews are covered with complaints about it not working.
@@AutomateYourLife After more research it seems the problem may stem from having multiple echo shows in the house that use different alexa accounts. The solution may be to set up an alexa household instead. I will look into it more tomorrow and see if it solves the issue.
I assume you mean Ring. It sounds like maybe your WiFi might be letting you down. Can you get the camera to show up on your smart display at all? If not, we gotta start there.
Can’t wait until someone figures out how to show a RTSP stream automatically like this. I am using monocle to view my RTSP on my echo screen but don’t have a way to automatically pull up the feed when my camera detects motion. I have to verbally tell Alexa to show front door. If anyone has a way to send that command to Alexa automatically please let me know! Not interested in paying monthly subscriptions.
That's an interesting problem...you need a processor of some kind in order to do it. I figure Wyze could actually do it right now, and most of these companies could...but that would give away lots of power to us DIY folks.
You know...I feel like most people just rate poorly on that store and don't rate when things work. Cause why would we return to a skill or app page when it works?

In any camera or Doorbell, you'll find the Announcement Devices in the settings of the device. So find the device (camera/doorbell) in the Devices Page of the Alexa app. You'll see the gear icon when you tap into the camera/doorbell and the announcement devices are in there.
However, if you're using a Facebook Portal, that's not going to work. This is with an Amazon Echo Show.
@@AutomateYourLife thank you for clearing that up for me 👍🏻👍🏻😁
Need this for the upcoming WYZE doorbell, and outdoor cam.. both on Google and Alexa
We can hope David! I really have to wonder if the Wyze Doorbell is going to have any options like that. Looks like it could.
Thank you! Very helpful ☺️
Glad it was helpful!
On the echo show 8, it does not show the person at the door in full screen. It shows it screen and screen mode only.
Must be a new setting there. Odd.
Any way for the Echo Show to automatically display when motion is detected?
Sadly, no. It will announce, but not auto display. This is a major request though, so I'd bet they're looking at it.
There is a workaround... if you are willing to use a Echo Dot to speak the "Alexa, show me the door bell camera" command to the Echo Show via an Alexa Routine
anyone know if this will work the same way with Ring cameras? Thanks!
There's no doorbell, so sorry. :(
@@AutomateYourLife thank you for your reply!
I don't think that's gonna work. Ring is Amazon and there's no Ring integration that I know of
I've got a ring pro 2 and an echo show 10 and i can't get this stupid thing to work. It shows "live view not supported on this device"
That's very odd. Not sure why, but I'd suggest talking to Amazon support.
What LCD panel is this?
It's an Echo Show
cAN YOU USE THIS ON 2 SHOWS AT THE SAME TIME?
I don't think so Richard, but I haven't tried! It seemed like I could populate all my Live View devices.
Wait! I watched and followed along this to find out how to automatically show doorbell video on Alexa Show when the doorbell is pressed. You demonstrated it at the end of the video but didn't talk about the 'extra' setting to make it work. Sorry but I don't know Frank to see what he's done.
I thought I showed all the settings during the video Mike?
Any idea if this is coming to Google Home?
Through the Ring Doorbell...I wouldn't expect that anytime soon. This is actually much more based on Alexa then it is Ring and Google hasn't opened up their platform this way.
Still, we're waiting on Google Home Routines that allow us to trigger devices, so...when that happens all of this could become available.
@@AutomateYourLife Google and Amazon are competitors, so I wouldn't expect any cooperation soon.
I followed the steps and it does show the video, but the video is not on full screen, did I miss something?
Sounds like maybe the camera you have specifically. You didn't do anything wrong. I'd check in with your manufacturer on that one.
Do you need alexa for this? What about Google home?
Can't do it yet with most doorbells on Google Home. Just Nest Video Doorbells
You can do it with your SmartThings Hub :)
You can run activities through SmartThings, therefore you'll be able to trigger them a few ways with Google/Voice.
@@AutomateYourLife Thanks, for *taking the frustration out of my automation.*
@@PhillyDjHook I hope we get it solved sir!
@@AutomateYourLife It arrives this Wednesday, June 10th. I'll keep you posted. Thanks.
Can't wait for this to come to FireSticks & hopefully Kindles too 🤞
Yeah I'm a little surprised actually that you can't. As long as CEC is on...I don't see why they couldn't do this on the Fire Stick.
I did exactly what you did and my echo isn’t going live when someone pressed the ring doorbell
That's different per video doorbell. This video just shows you how to get the notices.
👑
Yup
Unfortunately it isn't working for me. I have it set up exactly how you have and I neither get notifications or automatic live view when someone rings the doorbell. The only thing I can do is ask Alexa to show me the front door and then it does give me a live view.
This device is driving me insane. I'm certainly not the only person with the problem, their skill reviews are covered with complaints about it not working.
Not too many folks have had problems with this part of it. Sad....
@@AutomateYourLife After more research it seems the problem may stem from having multiple echo shows in the house that use different alexa accounts. The solution may be to set up an alexa household instead. I will look into it more tomorrow and see if it solves the issue.
My echo show tells me that the camera is not responding. Neither Rudy nor Amazon hotline could help…
I assume you mean Ring. It sounds like maybe your WiFi might be letting you down. Can you get the camera to show up on your smart display at all? If not, we gotta start there.
Mine doesn’t work and I’ve done everything 😢
You know, I've been having trouble with Alexa routines off of these types of events for a week now. I think something's been broken for some.
hi. can eufy do the same..
The ones I've had could, but I don't have one anymore.
What is an ECHO SHOW?
It's a smart display with Amazon Alexa on it!
@@AutomateYourLife What is a smart display?
You should blur your home address. Great video! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for pointing that out. :)
Video NOT visible. "An error occurred."
I think YT has been having issues. Try again!
great video Brian, any ETA on the motion video becoming visible?
I have the Lenovo M10 Tablet/Alexa show device and I haven’t been able to get this to work,
Yeahhhh...that's not an Echo Show! Sorry. It's a Lenovo :)
🔥
😃👍
Can’t wait until someone figures out how to show a RTSP stream automatically like this. I am using monocle to view my RTSP on my echo screen but don’t have a way to automatically pull up the feed when my camera detects motion. I have to verbally tell Alexa to show front door. If anyone has a way to send that command to Alexa automatically please let me know! Not interested in paying monthly subscriptions.
That's an interesting problem...you need a processor of some kind in order to do it. I figure Wyze could actually do it right now, and most of these companies could...but that would give away lots of power to us DIY folks.
😁😁😁👍👍👍..nice
Many many thanks!
Alexa has so muhch power but its shamlefull the amount of apps by companies are like 2 to 3 stars rated such poor design and combersom
You know...I feel like most people just rate poorly on that store and don't rate when things work. Cause why would we return to a skill or app page when it works?
what about google using a hub or smarthings
Not Google, but you could push from. SmartThings to Alexa and get the display to show cameras
