This version of Lion’s Mane, trip up and all, is everything
This is my favorite version of Lion's Mane, by far.
Same I just need to learn it on guitar
I love how quiet the room gets when he starts playing!
Yeah, that's because the guitar is horrendously out of tune and everyone walked out.

Just discovered this guy. Fell in love right away.
you have a lot of different stuff to listen to then. And its diverse.
Everytime I see this guy in a live performance a smile comes to my face. Such a humble guy, great voice, great lyrics and so underrated. Better for us though, who enjoy good-inspiring music.
It's sad that most people would complain about the 'mistakes' but this concert is such a real representation of him as a guy. Just a plain good song writer and a nice dude.
Good
it's sad but not strange, cos the world is crowded by assholesss
Shows he's real
I haven't seen anyone complaining, but his flaws are no mistakes to me. They just make it more perfect somehow.
I love his soul, or the way he expresses himself at least. It's nice and true/
I don't see anyone complaining about the mistakes
This version of Upward Over the Mountain..... goosebumps!!
Living in the UK i got to say a big thank you to KEXP for without i would not discover talented musicians such as Sam Beam. & many more. & of course Mellow Johnny's Bike Shop just the coolest venue ever!
I love this guy - he has a beautiful soul.
my favorite band/artist. Seeing them live for the first time in May!! Finally I can scratch "See Iron & Wine live" off my bucket list.
He sounds amazing as a live performer. I'm just getting into this music and its 2022. Where have I been?
This performance never gets old.
I wish my life were as perfect as his performance of Glad Man Singing.
I love how real this guy is. I only know a few songs, but I'd love to see him live.
such a beautiful voice.. always when I hear a song for the first time I cry...engulfing beauty
I wish Sam would release a live album. Seeing him perform Cinder and Smoke at Sasquatch changed his music for me.
Beautiful. Thank you Sam and thank you KEXP.
This dude is so good!
And what a crazy astonishing version of Uward Over The Mountain
The earth is always warmer when you laugh :)
# John Mayhem I chuckle light heartily in total agreement brother.
He's such a cool guy seems like he would be fun to have a beer with
Or smoke a joint with.
Love his music!!!!
Truly fantastic. Seems like a lovely guy too.
I’m so happy you played Jesus the Mexican boy, and woman king! Both favourites of mine!
This just got me super excited. I'm seeing Iron & Wine for the first time live next month! It's going to be absolutely incredible.
that one guy reeeeally wants to hear Boy with a Coin.
his beard fits perfectly around the mic
Thank god for " Upward Over The Mountain " guy
Why not? it was fantastic!
He rarely plays his studio versions live. When I saw him he said something along the lines of "You can listen to the CD at home. I'm here to give you a musical experience." Anywho, it's different, but I think it was a good acoustic/solo version.
What an amazing afternoon concert, I appreciate his patience with those shouting guys...
My favourite performer in activity, no doubt!
Thanks Sam
love thats its in a bike shop
This is just awesome! Your voice reminds me of Michael Hedges. Thanks for your music!
Give this guy's beard a Grammy already!
great show.... and in a bike shop. classic seattle. these more informal music gatherings are big fun to watch. learning a little about the people behind the songs is special, and this dude has such a cool vibe about him. thanks to kexp for hosting this and sharing the results. may your children have children.
He’s in Austin, Texas
@@placebojesus5652 thanks. i knew not….. should have picked up that it was part of sxsw
Iron & Wine delivering an awe-inspiring performance in São Paulo last 2nd September is going to be one of my fondest memories ever. Hearing his voice feels like home. I was so overwhelmed that I hardly noticed the bloody mobile/camera freaks and pissing Twilight Saga twats taking stupid selfies during the concert (there should be a law against these people even breathing). But Sam is a perfect gentleman, so he rose above it.
He played for 2 hours straight and that was the case when just a man and his guitar suffice to transcend. I’ve been a fan for 10 years or so but only at the concert did I realise the prodigiously gifted (and yet kind and humble) instrumentalist Sam is. Sometimes, when playing a bluesy tune, he’d go into a solemn trance-like state, meaning every word coming out of his mouth. That was sheer awesomeness! But he had fun as well, cracking jokes now and then.
So I can hardly wait for his next Brazilian tour.
What a great version of "Woman King" !!!
That's how it is at SXSW: They fit them in where they can, all over the city's downtown. I saw Castanets in a church. Good times. Highly recommended if you can afford the tickets (I paid by the day the year I went).
Oh, so lovely!
It took me twelve minutes to realize he's playing in a bike shop.
I've seen the movie about twelve times before I saw your comment, which made me recognize it's a bike shop!
Mellow Johnny’s bike shop in Austin Tx.
SO SO SO EXCITED!!!! gonna see him in the fall of 2013, n am SO SO SO excited :) thank you for your talent! :)
23:59 Upward Over the Mountain
That was such a beautiful performance. :)
Hey I am too! So excited!!
Amazing set!
Beautiful set.
He's having fun by not playing Boy With A Coin when they call it.
Sam Beam may be the best lyricist ever. At least since Paul Simon.
+Kevin Lajoie Paul Simon and Sam beam started their career far after Bob Dylan. Saying duh is just a word to make you feel superior, you should stop that. No one likes someone who is belittling and worse yet, someone who is belittling and wrong
R-R-R-Roger Waters.
Him and bob Dylan. Bob has just great lyrics
glad man singing is my new favorite song
love itt!!!!
Oh man look at his mustache caress that microphone head, it must be in heaven.
Great music song. Great guitar 🎸. 👍🔥
thanks
Milwaukee is a deaf ear for winter prayers.
saw him at the Bottelrock festival complete with a horn section playing atonal jazz sections. All of the songs he played were completely redone and filled to the brim with energy
amazing!
that falsetto during the lion's mane...
Great!
someone tell me the chords he is using for lions mane
New Album Purchased.
I'd love to see you do what he does. plain and simple
my cousin is in that horn section. trumpeteer Jordan Mclean. the tallest man in the band.
He might be tired, but definitely in good spirits :-)
check out Half Moon, NPR Tiny Desk concert :)
i wanna rob this bike shop!! i love biking!!!! good shit from this mang too.
"NAKED AS WE CAME, I SAID" lmao
i like upward over the mountain personally
i want to go to one of his concerts but i'm fat
lol
Alonso Saldivar Im fat and I survived firefly when i seen him. He is worth it :)
lol i was making a silly joke when i said i wouldnt go see him because i'm fat, but thanks anyway
So mint! John Lennon is smiling right now.
Does anybody know the chords he is using for woman king?
Wonder if they picked up any EPO while they were there...
Wow, the sound of this guitar keeps improving the older it gets.
Besides that Sam Beam is as great as ever.
Guitar sounds rough.
Does anyone know if he always plays solo? I'm thinking about seeing him at the end of the month, but the videos I've seen of him with a band I don't like too much. I only want to see him if it's just going to be him.
when lucys diamonds are poking u in the life this music is like an angels touch of clarity mmmmmm
I started crying when i read this. cheers hahahah
Will be seeing him at the Crystal Ballroom November 2nd. The tickets are 30 dollars which I feel is pretty steep. But money is obviously a relative thing... I look forward to the show regardless. I'm taking my dad who has Parkinson's and hoping he walks away feeling some sort of benefit from taking it in...
I really wish I could get the chords for his live performances.
Trapeze Swinger, definitely. But all of his music is incredible.
little of both
There's a crowd?
What is his best song?
anybody have a good tab for woman king
i'm actually going on stage in about 2 months lol
what model taylor is he using
Matthew Nickelsen it looks like a 114 ce but different wood color
xThomas68 definitely not a 114 ce .... this guitar has a gloss top and the 114 has a satin finish.. definitely something much more premium than those basic models is what he is playing
Matthew Nickelsen Taylor 714ce
Grammatically it should be "it all came down to you and me" not "you and I" - I think this works better for the song too...
Haha, Trapeze Swinger. Way to maximize performance time. ^_^
god.
I know right?! You can see the tiny, subtle wrinkles on his shirt in 360p, what's going on here?!? Any more and you'd be able to see the individual pores on his face and count the exact number of hairs on his arm!
yeah it was definitely a late night
brilliant!!!! "in the key of the guinness guy" but not facetious just like the commercial only different but the same> but not really< or is it
should be you and me.
No Naked As We Came??? :-(
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
i want to kidnapp him and give him hugs
he didnt play naked as we came? damn. i tought he mentioned it in the lions mane clip
All time fav artist next is tallest man on earth
Those people are so lucky!!! I ll eat him included all the beard
Sam is the sweetest!!
He never plays songs ppl requested
hubba
its not him but his beard,,,,,
one of his few live performances i could find on here that isnt overwhelmingly sappy. Hes a great musician and extremely charming but his live stuff is much much better imho with a few mistakes thrown in as evidenced here in this vid. Im a big fan.. but as a guy a lot of his live stuff is just too ‘sugary’ for me.. and, well, i absolutely enjoyed this one
It's a shame Devendra Banhart shaved his off...
