Where We Collect Ballplayers And Their Stories
Lyman Wesley Bostock Jr had it all. He had the genetic lineage, as his father was a star 1B in the Negro Leagues, during the 1940’s, for the Birmingham Black Barons. He had a sweet left-handed stroke, that seemingly launched gap-seeking line drives at will. He had blazing speed, great baseball instincts, and played Gold Glove caliber defense in Center-Field.
In his first two full seasons, playing for the Minnesota Twins, Bostock is in contention, with future Hall Of Fame teammate Rod Carew, for batting titles, both years.
He is then signed by the California Angels, before the 1978 campaign, for the most lucrative contract in American team sports, at the time.
His star is blinding, as many of his peers and opponents, consider him a superstar in wait.
While standing on the precipice of greatness, all of that promise and hope, is gone in the blink of an eye. The 27 year old phenom, becomes the first and only MLB player to be murdered during the season, when he is violently gunned down, in the streets of Gary, Indiana, over a woman, he literally knew for 30 minutes, of his way too short life.

He was going to be an All Star, tragic.

Who also died far too young
Yes she did - She was a good reporter who got into Drugs - Such a shame @@bnegs521
She was a train wreck on camera 🎥 slurred speach.
@@Solitude47152 Yes . She got into Drugs to Stay awake and be a Great Reporter . She was a hard Worker - But she suffered the results
He was going to be a great. When he signed with tha Angels he got off to a slow start and was so apologetic about it, even offering to return part of his salary. He gave us long-suffering Angels fans hope. Then, he was gone.
Yeah, it was beyond sad. But I think he left an impact that carried over into 1979. But he was lost far too soon.
@@dzanierthink of how loaded the Angels lineup would have been in 1979 with him in it.
As it was three players drove in over 100 runs
@@kencummings953 yeah, that was a stacked lineup. Baylor, Ford and Grich drove in over 100, in Baylor’ case way over 100, Aikens had 81rbi. Downing 75rbi. Thing is if Lyman hadn’t been killed, they might not have had a need for Dan Ford. So it’s likely that the offense still would’ve been devastating, but without disco Danny. Baylor was the catalyst of that team in every way. He made everybody else better.
@@kencummings953 Led the way for Carew to join the next season
@@dzanier Ford would have played centerfield in place of Miller
