Excellent video!!! Just received the unit and will be installing soon, Thank you
How do you like it? I’m thinking about getting it for my bmw
Very nice write up! Great closeups and clarification!
Thanks for the very clear and detailed instructions. Followed every step and managed to get it in within a few hours. Getting the cables fitted behind the head unit was the hardest part.
Thanks for watching! Glad you were able to follow my video and get it installed! I had some small cuts all over my fingers after this haha
How do you like it so far
@@YTKushSmoke a 6.5/10, I love having CarPlay but it has its quirks, but if you have no other option, I think it’s worth to just have updated maps rather than outdated idrive maps, but again, except some annoyances
@@YTKushSmoke I like it very much. I use it for Navigation and Spotify. It's so much nicer than the original. I only had 1 or 2 occasions where it didn't want to connect./
@@theCarNoobwould I be able to use it for my MHD app?
Thanks for the video! I'm about to go install my screen that came with no instructions so your video really helps.
Love to hear that! I’m glad it helps, you got this!
Make sure the cable that goes into the screen is plugged in really well and enjoy!
I went with PEMP for my 2017 F30. $399 and I installed it within an hour. It works well and an actual affordable price! Still testing it!
What did you gain with PEMP?
Still enjoying it?
what is the boot time of the pemp screen?
One hiccup I did find is I can’t record on my phone or FaceTime when I am connected to the CarPlay function. Additionally, I have. 2015 BMW 335i and putting the radio back in with all the wires was a TIGHT fit.
Big white cable for the screen came loose on my first try and I didn’t have any volume. Once I straightened that out it was smooth. Thank you for your video. I’ve been looking for something exactly like this. The shipping was quicker than I expected and the install was pretty simple with your video
That not a hiccup my 2019 ram and Mazda do the same thing for some reason manufactures are doing that.
Although there's been no activity on this blog since my last post about a year ago, I finally decided to install the Andream 10.25 in screen version on my RHD 435i. Installation was straightforward enough, despite no instructions coming with the order. Car Noob's video helped fill in the missing instructions, and I now have the unit up and running. A few things to note:
1. the cable loom between the existing plug and the Harman Kardon head unit had several redundant connections which were not needed on the 435i. You just need the video cable (purple end-connectors, the USB cable (8-pin DIP plug at display unit end), and the main loom which I think is a 16-pin DIP plug at the display end.
2. my car has a USB socket in the well between the front seats which no longer seems to be accessible for uploading music or software. Perhaps the USB cable from the new display unit should be routed to the old socket position?
3. it was quite difficult to stow the cable loom behind the HK head unit - there never seemed to be quite enough room before contact was made with the firewall panel. Maybe I should retry stowing the loom to the left or right rather than behind the head unit.
4. it wasn't necessary to disconnect the battery during installation.
5. Although the 10.25 in screen is bigger than my original 8.8 in screen, it's not excessively large, and still looks cool on the dash.
6. I thought the password for accessing the factory settings would have been the last 4 digits of the wifi password - but no - take note of Car Noob's video and use the same number 1368 that he used. You have to do the setup - my display at first was a split screen which obstructed the original car menus.
7. I'm having trouble connecting the unit via BlueTooth to my iPhone 12 Mini. The phone says it's connected, but the Andream display says that BT couldn't be connected. Nevertheless the whole setup works without any cable between my phone and the car. Audio quality is superb, although my hearing as an 80 year-old is not too good these days.
8. Delivery of the Andream from China to Australia was good - about 2 weeks overall. Comms and tracking during delivery were excellent - recommended!
9. when I first looked at Car Noob's video, there were only a handful of guides for the Andream installation - now there are dozens. As far as I can see, Car Noob's is the definitive version for the non-MMI box 10.25 in touch-screen Andream model. So give it a try and let others know about your experience.
Rob
Thanks for the info. I am looking between this and the 12.3 inch
Is there any lag on the navigation
Hi@@johnnyprice1354, Sometimes the Andream instantly connects with Apple Maps, and sometimes it doesn't. Nowadays, I often start Car Play by going to the "Original Car" screen, and then I choose the original BMW navigation app. After a few minutes, I then tap the screen, and the display immediately transfers to Apple Maps. This suggests the Bluetooth connection between my phone and the Andream is being established behind the scenes. Once Apple Maps is up and running it works perfectly with no delays or lag. IMHO, Apple Maps is far superior to the BMW system, and this feature alone made the Andream worth buying. One thing I've noticed is that Apple Maps seems to keep a record of any regular trips made, and automatically chooses that trip at start-up - for instance, every Thursday morning I go to coffee with my mates, and that journey appears on the Maps screen at startup each Thursday.
I bought this screen since my oem 8" was pixelated. It is a nice replacement but I am not able to use any of the added features. Streaming or carplay they do not work. Also the product support is horrible. It's only available through email but they never respond. So I got a replacement screen but no added features. I do not recommend this product.
Yess this is exactly what I was looking for
Nice screen upgrade - we fit these over here in the UK!
Very nice I ordered one for my 2015 f30 I wish I don’t have to modify any trim to accommodate the bigger screen
You don’t have to modify anything, that’s the best part!!
Hey, firstly great and very informative video, secondly when you still had this car did you have a HUD and if so did it work with the new screen?
Really good videos by the way!
Thank you very much! Thanks for watching!!
For better sound quality you need to turn off Loudness and also Equaliser set at stock.
Hello mate , nice review, how are the colors and brightness of this aftermarket screen compare to the stock one?
Thanks for your video on the installation of the Andream 10.25" screen. I hope you can help me with 2 problems I’ve encountered after installing the unit on my 2014 BMW 435 with Harmon Karden sound. The first is no sound - not the seatbelt warning, or the car radio, or the backup sensor warning, or sound when connected to Car Play. The second is the inability to set the time. I noticed that in your video there is an orange warning triangle on the dash - same here. I don’t know if that helps diagnose the problem.
Great video, great description. I'm tempted to go for the 10.25 in screen, but it looks as though it's about 25mm wider than the original screen. Does the larger screen fit without distorting the dash? My car's a 2013 F32 435i. It's also RHD - do you see any problems with that? Rob
Thank you!
No distorting at all, it is still the same just a bit bigger.
Someone asked me about RHD once and honestly I can’t possibly tell you, I’ve never even seen a rhd bmw 😂
From the way cables work, and where they need to go, there aren’t many ways to connect the head unit to the screen, I’d expect it all to be mirrored, but that’s just a guess. Cheers Rob, thanks for watching!
I have an F 30. Will this give me CarPlay within the screen as well not having an additional module?
That looks good, I'm tempted to upgrade from my MMI box if they have the screen for my model
It did look good, but I do like how stable the MMI box was.
Idk if you use wireless carplay or wired with the mmi box, but wireless in the screen upgrade device was kinda shit.
If you don't mind wired carplay then the screen upgrade would prolly be just as good as mmi box for you, except you'd have touch screen too.
The only reason I upgraded was cause my MMI box somehow bricked itself, so I sent it back to the manufacturer and talked them into just letting me pay the difference for the screen so I can test it.
Besides this cool video, i love your interior trim the colour is insane
Did u buy it like this or did u wrap it ?
Thank you kindly!! Appreciate you watching!
It’s actually like that from the factory, I didn’t do anything to the trim.
Maybe it’s part of the luxury line trim, since it wasn’t M sport, I’m not sure tho
Thanks for the upload! Appreciate it, waiting for my Andream to arrive.
Wondering if you could somehow get the built in USB connection working instead of dropping the USB wire like that.
I think it’s possible but I’m not that good at figuring out how to make that work so I just left that usb to dangle lol
Thanks for some great videos!
How do you consider the upgrade going from the MMI box to the Screen unit? Is it worth it? And do you experience any drawbacks with the screen over the MMI box?
I’m looking to upgrade my F36 (has the small 6,5” screen NBT EVO ID6, but no nav or CarPlay) but I’m unsure whether to choose the MMI or the Screen unit - what would be your recommendation, having used both? (a pros/cons video would be awesome) 😊
Idk if there would be enough differences for a full video but I do like the upgrade.
In the beginning I thought that the huge screen was unnecessary but I like it now, although seeing regular screens makes them look tiny now 😂
The only thing I liked about the mmi box better was the wireless connectivity, it was more stable for some reason.
And I could do screen mirroring, although it wasn’t as intuitive as I liked so I wasn’t using it anyway 🤷🏻♂️
I do like the touch screen tho, I use that to navigate around maps.
Hope that helps, gl with your decision!
Hi can you provide a link for the upgraded screen

@@theCarNoob sorry I'm a noob and just started researching this for a 2014 4 series...dont you need both the MMI box and the screen upgrade since the MMI doesnt come with one?

Hi!
Great video, congrats!
Where did you find the PIN that you used in the Factory Settings menu? Is this the "factory" PIN or did you set it before?
I emailed the support email on their site and they told me what it was, I think they’re all the same for this company
Great video!! After i watched your video i order a 10.25” for my m3. Installation is pretty easy. It works fine only problem I have is when it turn on, the display is flickering alot for few seconds, also when the backup camera on the display has the same problem. Anyone know the problem?
what is the point of the USB cable exiting under the center console? BTW gread video and explain
Nice video mate. Just waiting for my head unit to be delivered, can’t wait to rip out my current CarPlay unit and drop in this head unit just for the wireless CarPlay! I keep forgetting to take my phone with me when I leave my car after using the usb CarPlay in my current box installed.
How do you find the software in the headunit to use? Are the options in the settings useful?
Yo thank you! Let me know what you think of the new unit!
This is my 2nd carplay unit and both of them have been able to do wireless carplay. Between the settings on them, I kinda prefer the MMI box and it’s settings, I feel like there were more settings to choose from
Nice video...honestly i'd rather use stock controls versus reaching up.
Hello, great video super informative, I have a 2014 428 Convertible, I am curious does adding this upgrade effect the HeadsUpDisplay and can you still use the Steering Wheel Controls, also will both the 360 cameras and rear camera work with all sensors? Also curious are you able to use the button on the steering will you command apple CarPlay to send messages? Like yourself I have the Harman Kardon, do you enjoy the sound quality? Super important! Finally, most importantly where do I purchase this online :)
I am interested in the above questions... Also, I thought I read somewhere that when switching between CarPlay and the original System, you loose sound (IE, playing SiriusXM though the app on CarPlay) until you return to the CarPlay screen. Finally, Phone question. Is it better to keep the phone paired to the original cars Bluetooth so that when a call comes in or is made, you sound quality is better? Again, read somewhere that the microphone in the unit is not good for calls, but fine for Siri voice commands, etc.
Hey great video helped me get my 10.25 screen fitted in no time at all. Just one question when you’re listening to digital radio on the Idrive and then switch to CarPlay does your radio cut off ?
That's a good question, never had digital radio or listened to radio in the car xD
Absolutely brilliant video Car Noob. I purchased this screen based on your video and the installation was straightforward thanks to your step by step guide. Strangely I did not have that green fibre optic cable and there was no slot for it either. Everything seems to be working fine EXCEPT people cannot hear me when I make or receive calls.....any idea why this is?
Thanks m8, appreciate you watching and commenting!
The green optic cable is only if you have the Harman Kardon with Logic7 option, if you have normal speakers you wouldn’t have it.
About the microphone, I have a theory that if your car is connected to iDrive via Bluetooth, iDrive takes control of the microphone and Carplay isn’t allowed to then. If you unpaid from iDrive, that may work, but I’m not 100% sure.
@@theCarNoob really appreciate the reply. I will give that a go and hopefully it work. Thanks again for the great content!
That solved the issue. Another problem resolved ...thanks!
@@NiallLarkin1 hell yeah! Thanks for confirming, others have asked similar things, good to know 100% it’s like that
I have a bmw f30 buying this screen do you think it’s to big ? Does it look weird or does it look like it’s meant for it ?
Great videos!
Were you able to make phone calls when your CarPlay was connected? I just installed mine and the calls come through but there’s no sound. Any advise will be appreciated. Thank you!
If your audio is going through Aux, make sure your phone is disconnected from iDrive Bluetooth completely. Delete it from iDrive.
If you’re doing audio through iDrive while using carplay, then make sure your calls are going through the iDrive Bluetooth
Hi man, Great video.
@Car Noob I was wondering how is the sound quality? is it inferior to the standard audio quality when just connecting the phone via USB or Bluetooth?
Thanks :)
I have a friend who doesn’t think there’s a difference, I seem to feel like there is, kinda personal preference. I think it’s worth to go through extra steps for the Logic7 sound since you don’t really get that through these devices.
Oh and thanks for watching!
Hey man, great video i just got one for my car and i have a question, did you modified something to make screen fit the right way ?
Yo yo! Nope didn’t have to modify a thing!
@@theCarNoob thanks for the help, i have a 15 bmw f80 m3 and somethimg is going on because the screen is not going all the way down to where the holes of the screws are but again thanks for your help 👊
Hey! Great video! Just wondering about the tests you did at the end of the video about getting the sound via Bluetooth instead of AUX. In the Andream product page they say sound will always output from AUX, so was it just luck that you got it working via BT and the manufacturer did not know about it or did you have an extra hardware to make it work?
I don’t know if it was luck but I don’t think it was an intended feature, more like a consequence of you still having your iDrive and iPhone now allowing you to choose where you route audio through. I never used Siri or talked via handsfree but I think some people said that they had issues hearing audio cues from maps
@@theCarNoob thanks ! I guess it has to do with the combox making sound capable of being routed through BT audio, so indeed not an intended feature.
Every time I switch to CarPlay screen I have no audio is there something the we need to do with the aux cable to install it somewhere I can play music trough Bluetooth but as soon as a switch to CarPlay stop any advice please
@@renemiranda8091 did you try swapping the green cable ?
@@renemiranda8091 I have the same problem. Did you find a work around?
Very informative video. I’ve been looking into butting one of these. A couple of questions: 1. How reflective is the screen? The difference between the original screen and the new one seems pretty substantial. It’s been two years since you uploaded the video. Does it still work as expected?
It’s a bit reflective but not horrible. I don’t have the same car anymore so I can’t answer that 😂
@@theCarNoob I purchased it in the meantime, super happy with it.
If you could help me id be so grateful, i have installed the screen but i dont have the green caplets that you rewired after finished the is no audio at all what can i do
Did you choose Aux within idrive settings? I'm not familiar tbh bro
Nice video mate. Are you able to use audio through the idrive and Google maps through car play at the same time?
Not sure tbh I always had the map sound muted
You can set your system up to do the following. Programme one of the CD buttons to be a short cut button I’m sure there is a video somewhere for that. I have this screen on my F31 62 plate so the old iDrive which does not allow music from the phone through USB or Bluetooth. Just phone calls through Bluetooth and charging through USB.
I prefer the sound quality of my radio and calls through the original system so I have a shortcut behind button 7 on the CD row that takes me straight from CarPlay into original iDrive radio and also switches the AUX from car play to iDrive at the same time. Split second change over. I then press the screen and it goes straight back to CarPlay screen with my radio playing. If I want aux to switch back for Amazon music podcasts etc. I press button 8 shortcut set up on my CD player and it switches the aux immediately to CarPlay. Touch the screen and I’m in car play mode.
I also take my calls through the original BMW Bluetooth as much crisper even though I’m listening to CarPlay music and have Waze on. You let it ring a couple of times and then select pick up call with the centre dial or touch screen. It’s so impressive what this screen can do.
I don’t know what this screen is called as it was fitted by someone else. It’s so good game changer and looks so good and integrates perfectly.
@@JB12132 honestly that sounds amazing! How can I find out what screen that is?
Hi Car Noob, great video btw. Quick question, if I get the screen that you showed in the video, do we still need to install the MMI Box or does the screen do everything that the MMI box does?
👍
Watch the video, no MMI box
The screen does everything the MMI box does, except I could never get it to work consistently on wireless carplay, and also could never get it to do screen mirroring like the MMI box did.
But the screen offers touch screen functionality which works decent.
They're both aftermarket parts, so don't expect OEM compatibility, I think the MMI box was a bit more stable generally.
Hey man, great video.
While using carplay, let's say Waze, is the radio still playing in the background? Do you have to play the radio through an app or you still have access to the car's radio?
Thanks 👍
You can have radio through iDrive and Waze using CarPlay. The only caveat is that you have to commit to either sound from radio or sound from carplay. Since it’s aftermarket, you can only listen to one or the other.
@@theCarNoob how do I choose which to play
@@theCarNoobhow to choose ?
Thanks your answer~ I have one more question.
On carplay screen, long press menu button goes to original screen i know.
But if i long press menu button again, it goes to new interface screen ? or carplay screen ?
In your video i saw it goes to new interface screen first, but i hope it goes to carplay screen last i used .
Are there options go to carplay screen first??
I think there are some options that control that, but I haven’t actually had time to mess around with it lately.
At the moment it automatically starts on iDrive screen when I use wireless carplay, and I have to click on Carplay to start it.
Thank you for the video! I have the same HK head unit as you which is larger meaning that i'm struggling to reinstall it back in the car as the cables are behind it. Can you please provide some advice on how i can get it reinstalled correctly?
Try to tuck in anything you can, is all I can say, there’s no good way lol
GGgggreat video~!!
I have one qestion.
After first pairing iphone then shoud i touch the screen for carply everytime?
or automatically starts caply without doing anything?
Now i am using MMI wireless carplay and It starts carplay automatically without doing anything
There are probably settings for it, I haven’t really found them yet.
So far if it’s on iDrive when I turn it on, I have to click every time to get it to carplay, but if I’m already looking at the new device’s interface, then it starts it automatically.
Still not too familiar, it does work a bit different than the mmi box
Does the BT trick for audio also work for Android Auto? I'm thinking about getting one, but I have an Android phone, and HK, so i don't want to lose audio quality through AUX
Cool video btw!
I can’t say, don’t have an Android :/
Great video! Can I get your thoughts on the unit now that you have had it installed a few months? Deciding between grabbing this unit or going with an android head unit. I would primarily be using it for carplay and don't really need all of the other functions of the android head unit which is why im leaning towards this.
Thanks for watching!!
I still like this device and I use it every day!
It’s not perfect of course, it’s aftermarket and less than $300.
There are a few ways to get carplay, can get a MMI box (sometimes Android sometimes not), or you can get the whole screen (like this video) and get touch screen etc.
My biggest complaint right now is that the wireless carplay connectivity could be better, although I usually use a wired USB connection, just works better.
If that doesn’t bother you, it’s well worth the few hundred bucks.
I don’t use any of the other features, only carplay and for that it’s great. Hope that helps man
@@theCarNoob Hey thanks for making the video. Wanted to know how the audio sound is when listening to music wireless?
@@theCarNoob is the wireless connectivity bad or something? I would like to not have lagggy music. And do u know what models this upgrade works for?
@@avidreader6534 once connected it was fine, didn’t have laggy music, but after a few weeks it just wouldn’t connect to carplay wirelessly anymore, and I preferred the sound quality from iDrive via Bluetooth and HK Logic7.

Hmm not sure, are you sure it’s related to the CarPlay thing?

I didnt notice you talk about its price along the video , how much you paid for the unit ? If it s around 200 usd I will have one of my captain friends grab one for me . Tx
Hi! Greetings to Istanbul!
In my video description there is a link to the product. (Not sponsored)
They are less than $300 I think, well worth the money, you can buy 3 of these better than having it installed in a shop 😬
Great video thanks. I have one problem, when i put the screen in and started driving a warning popped up "battery. Draining while stationery" never had this pop up before only after i put the screen in.
Never had that issue, sounds like a battery related thing? Any luck getting it sorted out?
Can those switches/panel (just adjacent to the gear stick) still can control the new screen?
Great video!
Do you know if this unit works in a 2014 bmw 328i series 3?
Yes it does! Thanks for watching!
Hello, the phone connects by itself, every time your iPhone, to the CarPlay system? Or do you lose shots? And you have to connect manually thanks nice video!!!
When it worked, it connected automatically. But it worked best with USB
Had also updated from 8.8 to 10.25 inches. the size is great, but the part is just too reflective compared to the original, so I'm back to the original
Agreed, and the resolution is a bit stretched as well
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Is it possible to connect the screen to the car by bluetooth? I imagine a scenario where I play spotify directly from the screen and transfer the sound trough bluetooth to the car original sound system. In theory this could allow controlling spotify from the steering wheel controls, in the same manner as with any android phone
Thank you!
Yes, that’s exactly what I was talking about at the end of the video. I got it to do both wirelessly but in my experience it works best if you connect to carplay wired and iDrive sound system via Bluetooth or doing carplay wirelessly and then connecting to your iDrive system with a usb
When both are wireless, that gets kinda weird sometimes, but when using one of the two connections wired, you can have your Spotify on screen, while sound comes through iDrive’s Logic7, it also allows you to skip with steering wheel buttons that way
Thanks a lot for your reply!
@Car Noob I'm trying to follow this. So you are controlling music via caraway or idrive? I have android and I want to make sure I get the best quality sound from my music
Just to confirm, does this mmi work with the cic system? I have a 2013 f30
It does, cic and nbt
Hi, thank you for a great video, I installed this morning but the audio did not work, even with the normal display.
Heyo! Thanks for watching!
Are you selecting Aux in idrive?
Did you transfer the green and black cable?
Hey there! Amazing video!!
Just got a couple quick questions:
I often share the car with my wife. We both have iPhone.
1.Have you tried what happens if you have more than one device paired with carplay? For example: say i use the car first, and my carplay works. If then she uses the car, will the screen automatically pair with her iPhone or will she need to do that manually every time?
2. I am with you with the audio quality thing. But i thing the bluetooth workaround you found might as well work for me. I basically listen to the music through bluetooth connected to idrive. That of course, will not give me any other audio from the carplay interface (for instance navigation directions etc) correct?
3. I know you tried several solutions with your car, both upgrading the screen to touch like this, to just units that go inside like the mmi andream.
In your opinion, which is the best of the two???
Do you experience any lagginess/issue??
Thanks in advance!!! Keep up with the good stuff!
Hi, it won't work at once, but you can use it one at once.
too many questions lol
Not sure if you have Sirius XM but if you do, are you able to listen to Sirius XM at the same time that you're using Carplay? For example, while using navigation.
I don’t have it but I believe that you can do that as well, you just have to launch carplay first, then choose your other audio source
When you get a phone call does it still use your factory microphone? Even if it’s on car play ?
Yeah it does
Hi mate fitted it all thanks for the video on this but my screen when I set it to the mode you say when I make a call and it goes back to the original screen it’s all blurry lines but when I touch screen it goes back to the car play menu and screen is fine !! How can you make a call and make it not go back to original screen and any info why it’s blurry
I would definitely unplug and make sure your cables are plugged in snug, that doesn't sound right m8
Hey! I just installed this unit! Everything works but the sound unfortunately doesn’t. I have a 2013 F30 328i CIC system. Did I miss some steps ? Great video btw
Yo yo, thanks for watching!
Make sure you selected Aux in your iDrive, that usually messes people up
Do I also have to set the aux output with this screen like on other screens and additional modules? Is it also available in Italian?
How is your sound working, I can hear waze but music doesn’t want to play
Great video! wondering if you could help me out! i’m not getting a signal from my factory back up camera how do I connect it to the new head unit?
I wanna say ther's a check box in the settings, I don't have the unit or the car anymore but whatever the setting is, do the opposite lol
Hi,
thanks for your nice video. I think I bought exactly the same carpaly screen for my F31. However, I have some problems. Maybe you could offer me some inspration. 1. at 14:43, the white connect plug is super hard and tight to be pluged in its correct position behind the screen. (I am curious how much effort did you spend in your case?) 2. After I plug it as good as I could, and switch it on, the screen shows a white color, blur UI, and I can see some overlapping between the carplay system and the idrive system.
Hey there! I spent a solid 10-15 minutes trying to plug that white cable in. I think that one is in charge of audio as well and it made my audio come on one side of the car only, but I have not remedied that since I route my audio through iDrive logic7 anyway. You gotta put a good amount of pressure evenly to get it to plug in the right way.
I'm not sure about the white color part, but I had a blurry UI and some overlapping. Did you check out the system settings and chose your model correctly as I did at 21:00?
If you did and it's still doing that, I'm afraid you'll have to unplug the white cable and plug it back in.
You can hit me up on ig @car_noob_ and send me a pic, I'd be curious to see what it's like.
@@theCarNoob Thanks for your reply. I just sent you some msgs in Instagram.
@@theCarNoob Hi, I got a new device and it works fine now.
I had this too, totally wrecked my thumbs trying to get the damn thing in. Built quality in these units is really questionable but oh well, that’s what you get for this amount of money…
Hey I've just installed mine and not getting baby audio. FAQs on the instructions says to use an aux cable however I wasn't sure if the white connector was all the way in. Do you think this might be the issue? I don't really want an aux cable running to the arm rest!
hello so the best quality for you is from USB or from Bluetooh? Thank you.
If I already did the box on my 2015 M4 can I just do the screen and not have to take out the aftermarket box ?
I got my 2014 F30 screen with the de-lamination problem. BMW asking for a new one for like 1k. Is this better? Can you play UA-cam music videos? Let me know Bc I’m bout to cop this joint. Good instructions by the way.
On this one you can’t seem to play UA-cam music videos, but I’m sure there are many other companies that sell it with that feature in prime focus, I think it’s popular.
In terms of quality, I’ve heard people say it has a lot of glare on the Andream screen but I haven’t noticed it, although I have all my windows tinted, which helps.
Did you lose any sound quality? Compare to the stock unit I have the hardon kardon speakers as well but I see a lot of people connect the aux for audio to play on the aftermarket unit is the sound quality the same as you connecting it to Bluetooth but it’s reading the sound through the aux of the stock unit ?
Yeah the sound quality isn’t the same, that’s why I did what I did at the end of the video and routed my audio through idrive via Bluetooth while I had CarPlay connected wired, or doing wireless CarPlay with sound going through wired idrive connection.
Great video! Helped a lot, I do how however have some issues. My wireless CarPlay worked fine in the start but now a week in the wireless function is not working and I can’t connect it with Bluetooth anymore, do you know anything about this issue?
Yep! I had the same issue so I just used it with USB after that. I think the Wireless module in that device is cheap and after a certain amount of connections it just fails to work properly. I've even tried resetting it to factory settings, didn't work. I don't have the 435i anymore, and my current car has carplay already so I don't deal with this issue anymore.
@@theCarNoob what car do you have now?
I have the same issue anybody know if this is fixable
@@renemiranda8091 i couldn't fix it, the company i bought it from sent me files for me to download to a usb stick and then insert it to the usb that was linked w the screen but nothing happened (i probably did it the wrong way), eventually the screen turned black during an update (because i took out the usb mid update) and i sent it back and received a new. now mine works fine but i have a friend w the same issue as u an he just uses the USB option when the wireless doesn't work.
Nice video! To date, do you still recommend this brand andream or are there better brands for value for money? Thanx
I still recommend them but there are lots of others that are the same shit at this point, basically just buy whatever is closest to your budget and seems like it has best support
Thnx dude, nice video. I would love to see what's inside the settings of this screen.
I'm upgrading next week, and also coming from an (andream) mmi unit.
PS on the end you are flabbergasted about the double bluetooth connection. Actualy carplay only finds an iphone through bluetooth, the connection itself is through wifi. So no double bluetooth connection there.
Thank you! And yes you’re actually right, the only thing is that in order to get it to do with CarPlay you have to go to your Bluetooth to pair with the CAR_KITxxxx or something, but you’re correct it uses carplay through WiFi.
Thanks for watching! Let me know what you think about the screen!
Hey I just installed the screen. Works great.
But one thing is a little strange here, and I wonder if you got the same.
When I push the back button on my Idrive button set. I get back into the main menu from the unit, instead of going back 1 screen inside an app, do you got the same? It's kind of annoying
Any answer to this?
@@VeErik I think rather than Back you click Menu once and that goes back one step, I could be wrong tho
Great video ! This only screen yes?
What happened at the and of the video ? So you use org Bluetooth true CarPlay when u listen to music via Spotify?
Also wonder can you chose whic side it will start? For example I like idrive start up whit M logo and Jump over to CarPlay or can you chose in factory settings?
Regards
It’s only one screen.
You can’t really choose the startup logo anymore because the device has its own logo for startup.
I never really get to see my m sport logo so it didn’t bother me.
@@theCarNoob ok thanks , how about phone call? When u make phone call do u speak true org mic or CarPlay mic?
Still happy whit the unit after a few weeks ?
@@kadiraytekin7556 mostly, yes. There are some quirks that I’d like to see fixed, like I haven’t figured out how to make it start on my carplay screen so I always have to start it myself, which takes 2 sec but still, would like to have the option to automatically start carplay.
Outside of that, it’s worked for me pretty consistently, I’m doing wired carplay with my audio through iDrive’s Bluetooth, and I’m happy with that atm
@@theCarNoob ok than I know , does it start on idrive side? Or CarPlay side whit Bmw logo and than jump in to CarPlay menu than you have to start in that way?
Because I want it start in idrive side whit original animated M logo and want to chose which side only when I want.
You prefer wired via org Bluetooth because it’s better audio?
Can u go straight from the 6.6 inch display to the 10.25 inch one? I have a 2013 BMW 320i F30.
yes
Hey man, great video I just got one for my car, my question is where did you get the passcode in the factory setting to adjust the screen? Thanks, Gabby.
Heyo Gabby! Thanks for tuning in!
I had to reach out for support when I first installed it because of the weird screen resolution I explained toward the end and they responded with instructions and gave me the passcode.
Did you try the same passcode as mine? (Assuming you got it from the same place as me)
Hey there ~ we followed these awesome instructions and before putting it all back together, turned the car on and the screen looked awesome! But then once we put the components back into their places, the screen no longer turns on. We’ve held the menu button down for 3 secs, etc. Any thoughts? Driving us nuts as for a moment it worked! Really appreciate it.
Hmmm sounds like a cable might have gotten pinched or something unplugged upon putting back together
Figured it out! Blown fuse
Thanks for your super quick response!
I have a 2014 BMW 328i which the display now has clear gray lines - I went to the dealership and they want to charge me almost 4K to change the display. I am not a "mechanic" type but this seems easy to change :).
That's ridiculous, it's easy to change, just buy one on ebaby for like $300-400, especially if you're going oem-oem, can't go wrong
Great video and very detailed. Will this work with the NBT Evo?
Hi there! Thank you very much!
It will, I have the NBT Evo in my car!
@@theCarNoob thanks! Their site has confusing info so I appreciate the reply. Also thanks for the video, I’ve been looking to add CarPlay and flashing my HU seems too risky since I do use remote connected services. Cheers!
@@Dannyeckes yo so sorry I actually just looked and it won’t work with NBT evo, only CIC and NBT. My car doesn’t have NBT Evo, just regular NBT.
Sorry I told ya wrong.
If you go to the link in video description, it goes to the product page and says:
Our products are compatible with the CIC/NBT system. If your car has an EVO system, it will not work.
They probably sell a separate product for the Evo. Does flashing the HU if you have the Evo mess with your online services?
@@theCarNoob ha! All good! Thanks for the quick reply and correction.
@@Dannyeckes for sure man! I wanna say a while ago when I was trying to figure out which to get for my NBT I was jealous of people with the Evo cause it was easier to get carplay but now I can’t remember the method.
Thanks for watching anyway, hope you find a way soon!
Would you say that there is a lag in CarPlay when using the idrive controller or just lag in CarPlay in general?
Negative, the only time there was even slight lag was when using it wirelessly, but even that wasn't bad
Is there a way to add Airplay to these units? I haven’t been able to determine why some of these Carplay/Android retrofits support Airplay and some do not.
Not really, unless you know how to program them to do that.
I’ve seen a couple different ways to do this, but it really depends on why you’re getting this feature to begin with.
One way is to use a MMJ box, I made a video about one I used to have. The screen mirroring always required some messing with and it was never as intuitive as you’d expect so I just used it for Carplay.
I’ve seen people use an AppleTV rather than a MMI box, but you don’t get Carplay with that, you only get the Airplay, but it’s with an actual Apple device so the connection is a bit better, although you gotta run it through your mobile hotspot or get a hotspot device to give it wifi.
Sorry it may not be the answer you wanted
so you have to use that usb extension? or can i use the factory usb port thats in my arm rest?
and the website doesnt offer a screen unti for the 2 series explicitly, could one of their 3 series screens work in my 235
That's a great question, I would imagine that if they didn't list your car it probably doesn't fit it :/
Surely there are other sites out there that would sell it for your car.
You do have to use that extension, I think there is probably some type of way to extend it into the armrest but you would probably have to forfeit the USB connectivity to iDrive in that case. I'm no expert tho :D
Thank your video, but I have a question after installed. When it’s in wireless CarPlay environment, I can’t hear when I call other people and select “CarPlay” as output. But I can hear and talk when I change output to “BMW” by phone. Do you know how I should operate? That’s from what I connected 2 Bluetooth items (BMW and CarPlay)?
Yeah, if I remember correctly, if you wanna use carplay for sound and talking to people, I think you can’t have iDrive paired and you have to use Aux output in iDrive, but I disliked other things about it so I just dealt with it.
Every time I got a call I answered and then switched to BMW, and it worked that way. It’s cumbersome but I just chalked it up to “it’s aftermarket, it can’t work like oem”
Have you noticed a audio difference when on CarPlay and when on the “oem bmw menu”. It sounds like CarPlay audio isn’t as good quality audio as when it’s in the normal BMW mode… any thoughts ?
I have noticed, it's much better using usb in BMW, I talk about it at the end of my video, and also at the end of my other carplay video
Where did you buy the screen ? Nice video !
Link in the description. Thanks for watching!
I think you can connect 2 Bluetooth, because actually wireless CarPlay Needs to Connect to BT at first, but what it really Does is a “wi-fi” Connection.
Am i right?
Btw about phone calls can you use OEM micro?
At the very end of the video I managed to connect it via wireless CarPlay and Bluetooth to idrive but after a while it just wasn’t connecting consistently to the wireless CarPlay, so I found that wired CarPlay + BT to idrive was the most consistent combo
Me gustó tu video, en esta pantalla puedes ver la velocidad y RPM?
I’m not sure
Hola qué tal uso IPhone puedo conectarme de manera Inalámbrica al CarPlay y al mismo tiempo el Bluetooth de teléfono y así tener el mejor sonido de mi auto?
I just got a similar unit installed but it seems hot at the back when in use. It doesn't even have to be on for long before it gets hot is this the same as the unit you had?
Like you screen gets hot?
I haven’t experienced that with the screen upgrade.
When I had an MMI box, I think it stopped working because it got too hot, but I couldn’t prove that lol
Hows the screen visibility? Does it glare? Also i've read that the silver bezel reflects itself on the front glas. Hows dayt to day use when its really hot in the summer?
I’ve not experienced any glare or reflections, but I do have my windows tinted, including the windshield, so that could be helping the situation.
@@theCarNoob i see. Hmm i cant tint my driver & passenger window and the windscreen since its illegal, so i kinda fear that I’ll get a lot of glare.
But thanks for the intel on that :) much appreciated!
Hello, one good point to add, the device stopped working when overheating in summer days. Looks like they didn’t design a good ventilation system
How long does it take for the device to boot up from engine start to when car play menu appears?
It wasn’t anything noticeable, pretty sure it was within 5 sec
Hey there. I love the video. So basically the thing is I dont have to connect anything to the aux port right? Because i did not see anything in the video about you doing that part
If you will have no sound you will need to use an AUX, please.
you shouldn't have to plug in anything but if you don't have sound when you first install, do what they said below

Hey noob, I have a question So do CarPlay and music audio work together by Bluetooth no aux or an connection needed ?
They can, depends if you want your audio to be processed by the carplay unit or if you wanna take advantage of your Logic7 (if you have that) through iDrive. You can connect it multiple different ways, my favorite is doing Carplay wired and playing audio through bluetooth via idrive
How did you connect your phone to idrive system while having it on CarPlay still? Im trying to do that
I’ll assume you’re doing iDrive connection via Bluetooth and carplay via USB. In that case:
- Connect phone to IDrive via Bluetooth and make sure your music plays
- plug in Carplay
- when you plug in carplay, it will automatically stop playing your music via Bluetooth
- on your iPhone, swipe down to open control center
- press the circle in top right corner and choose BMW iDrive connection instead of Carplay.
- should work
How did you get touch functionality to work? I upgraded my 6.5" unit in my F20 M140i (2018) to the 8.8" unit. When touching the screen, it opens the aftermarket Android menu every time and doesn't let me stay in the Drive menu.
That’s strange, I didn’t have to do anything for the touch to work, it just worked lol.
Have you contacted the seller?
Idk where you got it from but Andream was usually helpful to resolving my issues 🤷🏻♂️
Hi carnoob,
I ordered the same unit you did, but I’m not getting audio at all or the mic working. When I switch to Bluetooth I get the music to stream, but as soon as I switch back to the CarPlay screen it kills the Bluetooth and goes back to aux. did you experience this same problem? Andream is telling me to connect the aux cable, but that seems like a horrible sound quality comprise with my Harmon kardon option. Thanks for any advice you can give.
Hi there! Yes, when you connect via Bluetooth and start the music, then you switch to carplay and the music stops; go to your phone and on the screen where you can play/pause your music, there is a little circle icon in top right, you can change where your phone routes the music, you can choose iDrive Bluetooth from that screen AFTER you’ve already connected your carplay. Good luck m8, that’s what I’ve had to do each time.
Also when you get in a call, you’ll have to change the sound source on your phone from carplay to Bluetooth and then you’ll be able to hear people too.
@@theCarNoob when I hit the idrive after plugging into CarPlay I have no sound
Hey Great video! I have it installed but seems it isn't automatically connecting wireless carplay. Every time I have to dig into my bluetooth and manually click on the "car-kit xxxx" bluetooth. Are you seeing that issue also?
I’ve had been using it on wireless carplay and plugging in the cable for better audio quality, then at some point I switch it around. When I used the wireless it would connect automatically, although I always had to manually hold Menu 3sec to get to the menu there.
Lately it’s been having difficulties connecting when I would try, so I just use wired carplay and Bluetooth connection to iDrive for better audio quality. For me it doesn’t make a difference since either way I plug in something.
At the end of the video I was shocked that it let me do both wirelessly, but that proved to not be very stable and consistent, so I stopped trying.
same issue here, have you figured it out?
Hello @Car Noob I am using the wired CarPlay with my iPhone and I connected my aux cable also as my car did not have inbuilt Bluetooth for audio it’s just for the phone connection!! I am not getting any audio any suggestions?
I’m really thinking about taking it for my car but I’m a bit worried about the reliability of this product what do you think about it ?
I still use it every day, it works better wired than wireless, if that doesn’t bother you, it’s pretty reliable. I’ve had it for a few months and haven’t had issues.
Wireless carplay sometimes has trouble connecting but I think that wireless carplay isn’t there yet in general and if reliability is what you’re after, wired carplay is the way to go!
That compatible w a 2017 bmw 330i with just a 6 inch display installed?
Wait wait so you are connected with the normal bmw system and also with the display that is mad.
Also can I decide if it always boots In the normal system and then in the android ? (If not is the boot logo like the first logo that appears changeable )
Lol yep, connected to both 😅
You can’t customize that much about boot screen on this unit unfortunately
Hello,
I tried it too by passing the audio from bluetooth, and it works great! but it seems to me that the call doesn't work, do you?
How did you pass the audio from Bluetooth it’s not working for me
