As the proud new owner of the trial screen I can attest that this works.
I think it’s hard for the camera to actually capture how big the difference is in size between the new and old screen but it’s big

Thank you so much, you are litterally the only one that helped me out installing my 8.8 screen touch on my bmw 1 series. It's the same changing the size on bimmercode and the resolution. Keep up with those videos, I hope that somebody can explain me how to enable apple car play now but the rest is just perfect.
Enabling Apple car play requires a software update :(

Thanks for the amazing explanation, just did it on my M3, can't say it was easy with the leather dash but thanks to your video I succeeded. Had to do the Feature Installer for full screen car play because the headunit is EVO_Q.
If others have the leather dash, please note that you will need to trim the plastic completely on the edges down to the chrome part.

I've had bad experiences with ebay screens and just went with the one from bimmertech for my f80. No complaints so far. You don't gain a touch screen as their fitting is just a box in between the car and the OEM screen.

Great video, as always! Love your channel. I know this is just a screen upgrade, but with having to also upgrade the software have you noticed anything lost with vehicle data, like service intervals or maintenance data that you had before and doesn't transfer over?
Nope not at all. And software wasn’t updated. It was lost programming the new resolution. Think of it as plugging a bigger monitor to your old computer.

Good video mate very thorough I completely understand the need for this why would you want to upgrade the whole car just for an updated media experience. Having done a little research I understand my f30 ID4 would need a new display and processor is there any other hardware needed?
Just those Two things are what you would need. But it gets pricey at that point

You would need the same modifications. None of these screens are plug and play

That’s correct. For nbt evo you need the whole processing unit.

Oh yes you don’t lose anything. It is basically like upgrading to a bigger monitor in your PC
Great video, pretty helpful! Just had a quick question: My 2016 F80 is not on iDrive 5.0, so I don't get Apply CarPlay (separate mod needed for that to work). I know you said this is just a 5.0 "skin", so if I install this screen, would there be a way to get Apple Carplay to work with it/ is it preloaded with this screen? Thanks for your help!
You’d have to do a full retrofit with antennas etc.

Wow, great mod! Every time I watch one of your videos, I always end up adding mods to my list of things to save up for/buy. I've always thought the screen real estate of my F series was enough, but now I want to upgrade. For the touchscreen feature, is it capable of doing pinch to zoom?
It does pinch to zoom very well on maps !

Pretty sure as long as your car has WiFi you can screen mirror your phone and with that you can stream Netflix
@@lasse_bwld you can only screen mirror if you have an old android phone because the new android phones don’t use the same technology to screen mirror like I can take an old Samsung that has Mass and stream that way directly to my car but that doesn’t work with Apple or any of the new android phones

People are always looking for the easy way out for an upgrade such as myself. Say....800$ for the retrofitted unit, leaving a 200$ profit margin for yourself. Good idea. But are you comfortable modifying your own car too? This won’t fit without modifying your car a bit

Graphics are improved and are super sharp and bright. I love it
My 2020 M4 has a touch screen as standard, the only problem is the screen is so far away you have to lean forward to actually reach it. The newer G series cars have it much closer.

NBT Evo is touch. Just search for that
This is a great video. It would also help if you could post a written DIY as well, and list the model and specs for the screen. Also, if your car is not equipped from factory for touch and is f3x model, does the OBD coding the way to activate it so that apple CarPlay can be purchased and used? Seems bmw offers CarPlay after initial sale but only if car shows compatibility. Thanks

Hi Tommy, I have nbt evo unit with id4....I plugged in a screen (nbt evo id5/6) I purchased from eBay but it came up with no signal on the screen....is this due to the head unit not being coded yet to see or is there something else I need to do?

Hi I have a question I have a Bmw 330 2018 with the cheaper and smaller screen but the OS is still the same as in the more expensive screen if I buy the bigger screen do I have to do the full on conversion or it’s just a plug and play
Should be plug and play if the software is the same. It’s like buying a bigger monitor for your PC

You would need a slightly different screen. NBT instead of EVO but the procedure to install is very similar

As long as the back plug is the same you should be fine
I have a 2014 BMW 428i. You stated that cars older then a 2015 would need a different type of screen. Would you happen to know the part number and other details to have that screen installed.

Great video, thanks a lot, this helps much! Does this display need an DC/DC converter in the APIX2 connection or is it supported without that from the HU? So softstart (restart the car below 10-15 minutes) is no problem with black display?
This is plug and play. What you’re referring to relates to 2015 and older

I have a 2013 335i with 8 inch stock screen. I would assume this wouldn’t work for mine since it comes with Regular NBT (CIC high). Is that assumption correct?

Hey man so I have a 2019 M4 CS which already has a touch screen but obviously the smaller size. I already have the new screen to upgrade but when I code the new screen I should probably skip the touch screen code right? Since my OEM screen is already touch?
You will still need to adjust the resolution

Just look for nbt screen x5 on eBay. Should be from 2014-2016 and say NBt

Cutting the dash is permanent. This is fully reversible.
Nbt is a slightly different screen design but install procedure is the same

Yes they do! Connections in the back are the same. Fitting them into the dash is a different story though

I added one of these awhile back in my 2014 328d it’s a different model but I never did the coding, is the coding the same? Also WiFi just stopped working not sure why

This works just get an NBt and not nbt evo. 2014-2016 x6 part would work

I never realized the dash is different in my F82 like it has more carbon on the passenger side. Yours dips down Huuhh thats odd. Is that because I have a 2018 F82?

Blake's Garage it does appear different. When you compare the tiny strip. Yours is carbon and mine is plastic.
Also 2018 xenon headlamps are different from 2017 xenon headlamps

From a coaching perspective yes. From a size perspective it’s a slightly different modification
