I must've watched all the Non so più videos on youtube - well, I mainly watched the ones from full productions, though I did watch a few concert versions and listened to some audio - and this has got to be my favorite. Initially, I was a little bit annoyed about the breathiness, but it quickly grew on me as I realized it was very obviously a character choice. The way she sings this role, the way she acts this role, Liliana Nikiteanu is, in my humble opinion, the most believable Cherubino (from what I've seen on UA-cam, anyway.)
I don't think it's bad vocal technique, I think she was trying to depict the essence of the song. Cherubino is an adolescent boy in lust, trying to explain what women do to him.The "breathiness" is an interpretation of being all "oogily" over women in general. When he thinks about women he gets all flustered. When she goes up to those high notes it's obvious she doesn't have bad technique. She is very well supported. The fast parts are breathy cuz she's flustered about women. :)
I love this role - and comparing all the different voices, interpretations and staging. Just beautiful. That kind of bubbling-over youthful anxiety is so cute and endearing. Weren't we all a bit like this when we first fell in love? It makes you want to wring your hands when you remember it.
Not sure I like the interpretation but her diction is excellent and as someone who is trying to learn the role I thank you for leaving the recit in because I can hear every word
I actually think the raspy voice is an interesting way to convey the voice of an adolescent boy whose voice is about to change. Not always about technique folks, relax.
Pay attention to this fragment at 4:18. It is almost identical to the beginning of "Tutto e tranquillo e placido". Is Mozart telling us that something has happened between Susanna and Cherubino?
@Takoon not for me . For me if they can sing like that (even if it is not perfect) but if it is for entertaining I prefer it like this if it is just the singing I'll just buy the aria for a 1000 singers that can sign it right but cant perform (act)
@TheRoguesse mozart would've like it VERY much, believe me! and it's also for today's audience.. I like it! it represents challenge for the performers ;)

Grande romanza ed interpretazione🎶😄!

Very convincing Cherubino.
I have watched this over and over. I love the singing and the acting and the staging so much.
Aww the cuddles at the end!
50 Years ! Happy Birthday, Lady Nikiteanu ! :)

She's a hot Cherubino. Can I say that?

I love how she bounces off some of those crescendos.
All those Gs are so challenging. It's so interesting hearing how different mezzos tackle them!

LGBT art in XVIII century.
Cherubino is a BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Flávia scalvi Cherubino is a male character, as I know perfectly. But the performer of that role is always a girl.
Always is a mezzo soprano...but the character is a boy, che is just performing...nothing to do with lgbt
she
Flávia scalvi Aw-kay, aw-kay, aw-kay. You're right... (Please, inform yourself about the meaning of the word _irony..._ ).
