My wife loves margaritas - I got some blue curacao from marionette & made her a semi-dry one (just a small dash of agave nectar as additional sweetener) & the lime n salt garnishes & she loves them (we’re like 3/4 through the 500ml bottle of curacao in a few months on her own & just with this drink) - but there’s loads of ways to vary a margarita - I did yours/cocktail pete’s watermelon one with acidulated watermelon juice & she loved that too. Awesome - keep it up…
Your channel is my go-to channel for cocktail making, its helping me prepare for a party I'm hosting in February. Its fun learning all these cocktails I've never heard of before, and that sound and look delicious. I already have a list and the entire month of January will be dedicated to trying them out and pinning down the best. Its gonna be fun!
The Tommy’s Margarita is my favourite. Introduced it to a daiquiri fan, a claimed “margarita purest” (until that moment only liked blanco), and someone who prefers bourbon. All of them now ask for the Tommy’s margarita when we hangout in the hot weather.
I'm a big fan of Tommie's Margarita. Thanks for showcasing the recipe. As I understand it, the difference between agave syrup and agave "nectar" (such as Tres Agaves Agave Nectar) is that the nectar is syrup diluted in half. The Agave Syrup available where I live is the consistency of honey, while the Agave Nectar I use is less viscous, more like a simple sugar syrup. My ratio is 2 parts Tequila to 1 part lime to 1 part Agave Nectar. If I use the syrup I cut the amount of syrup in half and add extra water to get back to a 2/1/1 ratio. Perhaps not needed, but I've convinced myself that it helps match the overall volume and balance of using agave nectar.
Tommy’s is great and The Educated Barfly combined the 2. 2oz Blanco (not Reposado), 1oz lime, 1/2oz agave syrup and 1/2oz dry curaçao. It is great. I’ve also substituted in triple syrup instead of agave syrup when I had made a batch. 1800 is sort of a mediocre brand, not sure if you can get Olmeca Altos but that’s my favorite for margaritas. 7 Leguas is also very good but a bit more pricy for mixing.
I just got back from an All Inclusive Mexico trip…my go-to was a Cadillac Margarita….got them to drop the sweetness, use Don Julio, and float grande marnier…to me thats the best margarita :).
As a Scotsman, my favourite variation is what I call a Bonnie Margarita, two parts reposado, one part fresh lime and one part Drambuie. There's something special about the hit of hte tequila followed by the warmth of the Drambuie that makes it especially nice in winter, perfect for Christmas & New Year.
For years I have done a similar: 1.5 oz Blanco Tequila 1 oz Light Agave syrup 1 oz water juice of one lime, fresh squeezed into shaker. Shake and pour like the Tommy's Quick and always works well.
Regardless of the margarita, I always prefer ice in my margarita. I’ve had a handful of margaritas in coupe glasses with no ice and they just aren’t the same as the cool and refreshing ones that have ice.
The book is very well written, everthing is well balanced and the cocktail ingredient lists are easy to understand and follow. Many thanks for the book, my wife bought it for me for Christmas and we are (un)steadily working our way through it.
Steve, I love your content. No clue why, but UA-cam stopped popping your videos up in recommended. I don't really subscribe to much so I literally dug through my history to find this channel again. Now subscribed. Keep on keeping on.
Tommy’s Margarita WITH salt (Maldon) rim is my absolute favourite cocktail. Even better than Enzoni (which I thank you for introducing me to) or Negroni or any other classic.
I got ur cocktail bible for Xmas. Best gift ever. Love the detail and pics. I prefer my margarita 60ml blanco. 30 triple sec and 30 lime juice over ice. Nothing fancy. Keep up the good work
Love the new content Steve - the cocktail book is great! Have made a fair few already and have enjoyed learning the extra bit of history behind it. Makes the drink even more delicious. Cheers
Excellent content. It’s just short of 6am for me. Time to learn cocktails….lol. I have used Agave for years in my Margaritas. Even if I add a fourth ingredient.
I love a Tommy's Margarita. I love reposada tequila, agave syrup, lime... It's a perfect drink to me. I find it much easier to balance (for myself), than a traditional margarita with orange liqueur.
While I love both a good Tommy’s Margarita and a classic, my preferred margarita is a little in between - 3/4oz lime juice - 3/4oz Cointreau - 1/2oz agave - 2 oz tequila (reposado) - Shake over ice, strain and pour
Not a bartender by any means but months ago I started making my own "Rita's" at home... 3oz (😲) 1800 blanco, a whole lime and simple syrup with a Tajin rimmed glass.... thanks Steve for your version!
2oz habañero-infused tequila 0.5oz guava puree 1oz fresh lime juice Rim your coupette or 4oz tumbler glass with chipotle salt. Shake cocktail over ice 10-15 seconds & strain into glass. Garnish with a dried chili, if you like.
I say, add agave nectar to taste. Start with a bar spoon and a half of the stuff, give it a stir, and taste. If it's still not sweet enough, add another half-barspoonful more. The Tommy's Margarita highlights the Tequila more than the classic version, though I like what the orange liqueur brings to the drink. So, I combined the two recipes and made a hybrid: 1.5 oz Tequila 3/4 oz lime juice 1/2 oz Cointreau 1 bar spoon agave nectar 8 drops umami bitters
Oh wonderful. Directly from this amazing book. Had wonderful spicy margaritas last month in Mexico with the glass rimmed with Tajin I think it’s called. Found the one bartender that made them 🙌🏼
I like to sub the curacao for a purposefully made syrup. equal parts grapefruit oleo, orange oleo, earl grey concentrate, and clarified grapefruit juice make a spectacular syrup for a marg. 2oz blanco tequila, 1oz lime, .75oz margarita syrup.
I was lucky enough to have Tommy’s as my local Mexican restaurant a short walk away. Great food, fantastic margaritas. I had many tipsy walks back home from Tommy’s 😂.
Was lucky enough to have a Tommys made by the man himself last year at Tales of the Cocktail. Everyone else behind the bar was doing their most enthusiastic shake and precise pours, Julio just free poured everything into a blender, topped with ice then lifted it up and gave it a quick stir before dirty dumping into the glass. Old school as fuck but it was a damn tasty Tommys!
My recipe is 3 oz quality silver tequila, 1.5 oz Cointreau or Grand Marnier, half a squeezed lime and dash of algave nectar, shaken with ice and served over ice. Also, I like a lemon/sugar rim salt.
This is pretty close to mine... 3oz Tequila, 1.5 oz Grand Ma, 2 oz fresh lime juice, little squeeze of agave nectar (up to 1/2 oz if the limes are very tart).. I experiment with different tequilas. One time my buddy brought a bottle camping, and I made the best margaritas any of us had ever drank. Turns out he brought a $200 bottle (Don Fulano)...
This is my go to margarita for my guests and never got any complaints, although I make a variation. I create the classic margarita and add organic Agave syrup. The bar manager complains about the fact that I refuse to use the margarita recipe listed in our menu (which I think is disgusting 😂). Mine is 2 oz White Tequila, 1 oz Lime juice, Cointreau & Agave syrup (about .50 oz each). Theirs goes like this: Reposado Tequila, Roses lime, Cointreau, Orange juice and a splash of Sour Mix. What do you all think?
I like the idea to serve Margarita on Old fashioned glass. I tryed your recipe but replaced the Agave by my homemade Ginger syrup ... What the hell of a cocktail
First of all, congrats on the pronunciation of the spanish words and names, second since I live in a very hot city I always have frozen margaritas when there's an option, but undoubtedly my favorite drink is Pisco sour, I'd love to see you making one in your channel. Take care my friend.
One of my favorite things to do lately in a margarita is to split the spirit between 3/4 oz reposado, 3/4 oz jalapeño infused blanco, & 1/2 oz of mezcal. It’s become my wife’s favorite drink.
Leandro of TEB has a spec on a hybrid of this and the classic, using equal parts dry curacao and agave syrup for the sweetness and 1 oz of lime juice for the tart, and 2 oz tequila blanco. I'll be very interested to try it once I get the bottles for a long Island iced tea.
If you ask Julio about salted rims, his answer is “Salt is a flavor enhancer. If you use quality ingredients, you don’t need it.” (You pronounced his name correctly, BTW.)
I’ve had a margarita like this, though I need to try one with that tequila. I’ve had the “ultimate margarita” that has all of that with both cointreau and grand marnier. I’ve also made my own both ways, or one with just grand marnier. Honestly, i love them all!!! Margaritas and its variations are one of my all time favorite drinks.
Love the cocktail, the smile and all. However a small thing to note: between 1:42 - 1:59, I get motion sickness because of the camera swirling around (maybe that is just me).
This is absolutely my favorite version. I didn't like the margarita for so long until I tried the Tommy's and realized I just didn't like the orange in there.
I just want to let you know I about had a panic attack watching this. Around 2:40 you’ll notice a white pixel close to your nose. It’s tiny but on my brand new 85 inch tv I was freaking out that I had a bad pixel😂. Love the channel!
Had the same thought as you the first time I saw it :D I've noticed it on several videos for a long time now though. @StevetheBartenderAUS , are you aware?
Nice video. The original Tommy’s margarita uses Fresh Squeezed limes. “To me, juice doesn’t last 15 minutes. You can’t be a little fresh or a lot - fresh is fresh. It goes from the fruit to the cocktail.” -Julio Bermejo
Great video, the Tommy's is without a doubt better than the og in my eye, remember first making a Tommy's for my mum who is a margo fiend. She instantly preferred the Tommy's and hasn't looked back since. Cant say I blame her haha
Went against my better judgment and made this with the full 1 oz of agave syrup. Good lord, man, how can you stand it this sweet? The flavors are good, don’t get me wrong, but the sugar is out of control. Then I looked up others’ recipes for the Tommy Margarita and literally every single one I’ve found so far recommends half an ounce of agave syrup, not a full ounce. For anyone reading this comment, I highly recommend halving the agave syrup and trying that first before adding any more, unless you like your drinks tooth-achingly saccharine.
Agave syrup = diluted agave nectar. So if you use 1 oz of 1:1 agave syrup, it is exactly the same sugar content of 0.5 oz agave nectar. I did mention this in the video……. See here 0:50 For anyone else reading this comment, I explain everything in the video.
2 oz Arrette, 1 oz lime juice, 1/2 oz Dry Curacao, 1/2 Agave syrup--served straight up, double strained, never ever on the rocks. three times a week, just saying.
Most triple secs are low quality, and are just there to add sweetness (plus a bit of orange). The agave replaces it for sweet, and if you miss the orange (I do), add a touch of a quality orange liquor, like Cointreau.
Cuervo is good for mixing, but horrible for sipping. Too many additives, flavorings and colorings. Try Fortaleza, Arrette, Ocho, G4, El Tesoro or El Tequileno if you want real traditional (non headache) tequila.
If you can get it try Casa Dragones tequila. A little pricier but it's delicious. Mexicans love hibiscus, so it's not at all uncommon to find hibiscus flavoured margaritas and they're really good. You can also try subbing out the tequila for mezcal, but my absolute favourite variation is jalapeño.
NOT NO, BUT HELL NO ! With all due respect If you're not putting Cointreau or Grand Marnier in you are just making a tequila drink , In my opinion and I live in Texas and I'm 64 years old and I've been drinking margaritas for a long long time. And I like contreau
What is your favourite Margarita variation?
Devil's Margarita for sure. Standard spec, just with a float of a Rioja on top.
Tomy’s is great! The cocktail which is making me buying reposado tequila)))
In my margarita, I substitute Agave Syrup by Honey Syrup 3:1, delicious !
Definitely bulldog margarita cause I rediscovered it few days ago due to your vid😂
Slow-mo smile and the fast shake might actually break UA-cam 🤩
Hahaha the smile, the attitude gives a plus to the drink mate 😂
Your channel is my go-to channel for cocktail making, its helping me prepare for a party I'm hosting in February. Wow that sounds amazeballs
1oz reposado
.5 medium smoke mezcal
.5 dry curacao
.5 agave syrup
.75 lemon juice
1oz butterfly pea blossom+ginger tea 'concentrate' (just very strong brew)
I like a 2:1:1 margarita, with the 1 oz. Of "sweet" being a split base of agave nectar and orange liqueur.
For years I have done a similar:
1.5 oz Blanco Tequila
1 oz Light Agave syrup
1 oz water
juice of one lime, fresh squeezed into shaker.
Shake and pour like the Tommy's
Quick and always works well.
Regardless of the margarita, I always prefer ice in my margarita. I’ve had a handful of margaritas in coupe glasses with no ice and they just aren’t the same as the cool and refreshing ones that have ice.

Thanks for tuning in again! More content to come!
Using agave syrup instead of the triple sec saves a ton of cash.
Thanks Steve, bought your book & killed it on Xmas day, the cocktails were a big hit. You da man!
Tommy’s Margarita WITH salt (Maldon) rim is my absolute favourite cocktail. Even better than Enzoni (which I thank you for introducing me to) or Negroni or any other classic.

Be still my ❤........ made a Tommy’s earlier this evening from your book....nothing beats Tommy’s
Love the new content Steve - the cocktail book is great! Have made a fair few already and have enjoyed learning the extra bit of history behind it. Makes the drink even more delicious. Cheers
Steve - love your work mate.
From a fellow Aussie
My favorite is with Herradura Reposado Tequila at Tommy's . I also live on the East Coast , I have Tommy's Margarita shipped to me often
Excellent content. It’s just short of 6am for me. Time to learn cocktails….lol. I have used Agave for years in my Margaritas. Even if I add a fourth ingredient.
I’ve been making a margarita negra every session I drink cocktails lately, I love them
I love a Tommy's Margarita. I love reposada tequila, agave syrup, lime... It's a perfect drink to me. I find it much easier to balance (for myself), than a traditional margarita with orange liqueur.

Great drink , loving the new effects in your video!
i LOVE Tommy's margarita!!😍

my favorite drink by far!! but i also add some orange bitters
Got your book for Christmas, love it!
Fantastic video.thanks for your knowledge 👏 👍 and help other starting in this Fantastic world of drinks
Fantastic drink! Love how you explain it! Cheers my friend!
Oh wonderful. Directly from this amazing book. Had wonderful spicy margaritas last month in Mexico with the glass rimmed with Tajin I think it’s called. Found the one bartender that made them 🙌🏼
Tajin, yes. It makes for a great rim, I love it on a Bloody Mary too
This would be my preferred margarita for sure! Simple and simply awesome 👏🏽 Thank you
I like to sub the curacao for a purposefully made syrup. equal parts grapefruit oleo, orange oleo, earl grey concentrate, and clarified grapefruit juice make a spectacular syrup for a marg. 2oz blanco tequila, 1oz lime, .75oz margarita syrup.
I was lucky enough to have Tommy’s as my local Mexican restaurant a short walk away. Great food, fantastic margaritas. I had many tipsy walks back home from Tommy’s 😂.
I do the same version with .5 oz of Anchio Reyes Jalapeño, very tasty
Was lucky enough to have a Tommys made by the man himself last year at Tales of the Cocktail. Loving the cucumber and Jalapeno cocktail you did. Have learnt to take the seeds and membrane out of the jalapeno otherwise can be too spicy

What do you all think?
Your preference is the same recipe my wife and I have found to be our favorite too. As fort the bar menu version, I agree again 🤢 Cheers!
Using Rose's and/or sour mix in any cocktail is a huge red flag.
Ordering your book!
I like the idea to serve Margarita on Old fashioned glass. I tryed your recipe but replaced the Agave by my homemade Ginger syrup ... What the hell of a cocktail
made some of these last night and IMO yes better than the standard margarita.
Steve-O That shake and smile... Never under estimate the shake and smile!!
Sir what tequila do you recommend?. 1800 or Herradura?
First of all, congrats on the pronunciation of the spanish words and names, second since I live in a very hot city I always have frozen margaritas when there's an option, but undoubtedly my favorite drink is Pisco sour, I'd love to see you making one in your channel. Take care my friend.

Tommy's is always a winner
That looks sensational

The devil’s margarita is also very good! Margaritas with a float of red wine
@@markymarkeaton margarita AND red wine??? I’m sold 😂😂
A friend makes his with fresh squeezed lime and orange juice. I find it also then highlights the tequila but the orange is still there.
I'm a huge fan of the Margarita Negra! Mr. black, Blanco tequila, agave, lime juice 👌
Love the cocktail, the smile and all. However a small thing to note: between 1:42 - 1:59, I get motion sickness because of the camera swirling around (maybe that is just me).
More slow mo shakes and smiles.
This is absolutely my favorite version. I didn't like the margarita for so long until I tried the Tommy's and realized I just didn't like the orange in there.
Tequila centered, less/no orange liqueur is the way to go. But salt is a must for me
I’m finding these to be a little sweet. I even dialed the agave syrup back to 3/4 oz per drink. It’s better but still on the sweet side.
Yeah this is also my favourite margarita. Actually, the million dollar margarita is also super nice!
I'm absolutely going to sell someone on this so I can make it at work!!
I prefer a classic margarita any day of the week. Happy Australia day from across the ditch.
I think I need to try this. I HATE salted rim; hate it so I like this dirty dump.
Also, you killed me with the slo-mo
Tommy's margarita 🎉❤
Tommy’s best
I just want to let you know I about had a panic attack watching this. Around 2:40 you’ll notice a white pixel close to your nose. It’s tiny but on my brand new 85 inch tv I was freaking out that I had a bad pixel😂. Love the channel!
Had the same thought as you the first time I saw it :D I've noticed it on several videos for a long time now though. @StevetheBartenderAUS , are you aware?
I’ve seen a few people mention it.. tried cleaning the camera sensor but it hasn’t fixed it..
If the intention is to enhance the agave taste, hence the agave nectar, why not try one with mezcal?
How do you get a full glass out of 120ml? Can't be all melted ice, right?
You can always adjust the measurements to the size of you glassware.
What is the brand of a goblet nectar that you are using?
Nice video. The original Tommy’s margarita uses Fresh Squeezed limes.
“To me, juice doesn’t last 15 minutes. You can’t be a little fresh or a lot - fresh is fresh. It goes from the fruit to the cocktail.” -Julio Bermejo
I did use fresh lime juice.
Great video, the Tommy's is without a doubt better than the og in my eye, remember first making a Tommy's for my mum who is a margo fiend. She instantly preferred the Tommy's and hasn't looked back since. Cant say I blame her haha
Classic!!
Just needs the salt rim and it sounds perfect.
Oh this Wife of yours is a happy one!!!
Went against my better judgment and made this with the full 1 oz of agave syrup. Good lord, man, how can you stand it this sweet? The flavors are good, don’t get me wrong, but the sugar is out of control. Your wife is sitting there like..."any time now"
A great margarita
I like this with a smoky mezcal instead of tequila
2 oz Arrette, 1 oz lime juice, 1/2 oz Dry Curacao, 1/2 Agave syrup--served straight up, double strained, never ever on the rocks. three times a week, just saying.
Why can't I turn on the notifications for your channel?
I’m not sure.. 🤔
I like Illegal reposado mescal instead of a tequila for a sipping Margarita.
My wife is thirsty. So I'm going to make a 4 minute video making her favorite drink, then drink it my self. 😂
2:12 - Ай чертяка...! :)
Classic is better IMHO. This one is more in the sweet side. And the orange liqueur gives it a je noise qua "
Little less agave than this recipe and a pinch of sea salt in the shaker - no salt rim
Yep, Tommy's is 100% better than the original
No triple sec or anthing like that?
Most triple secs are low quality, and are just there to add sweetness (plus a bit of orange). The agave replaces it for sweet, and if you miss the orange (I do), add a touch of a quality orange liquor, like Cointreau.
Nope, that’s the beauty of the Tommy’s Margarita..
Cuervo is good for mixing, but horrible for sipping. Too many additives, flavorings and colorings. Try Fortaleza, Arrette, Ocho, G4, El Tesoro or El Tequileno if you want real traditional (non headache) tequila.
Kat cam when :)
So basically that's a Tequila Daiquiri? 😁
I wish you wife would choose some thirsty comments from fans, and you would read them on a video lol
Tommy's all the way 😎👍🏻
NOT NO, BUT HELL NO ! With all due respect If you're not putting Cointreau or Grand Marnier in you are just making a tequila drink , In my opinion and I live in Texas and I'm 64 years old and I've been drinking margaritas for a long long time. And I like contreau
