I call bS. Yeah you fail on this, thumbs down. Last chance and then I unsub. Honest you said this was not your fav drum machine - that is Good. but.... You HAVE TO UP YOUR GAME.
Great work Liam! This video brought me to your channel. Love all the textural sounds you’ve created with Pulsar! There’s a great way to make that kick slap harder. By attenuating the BD output into the OMG! Circuit, you can really do some fat kicks.
Hey Liam, I love your channel and am happy you’re hitting subscription goals lately! I just bought an Elektron digitone keys and am learning through your channel :) Question: I’m new to audio equipment, but I want either a sampler or drum machine for sounds like Beach House & The Radio Dept. Other sounds I like are The National, BCNR, The Smiths. So basically, trying to create indie/dream alternative music. Which videos of yours should I check out? Is there a product that comes to mind? Thanks so much man…
So cool! Vlad is a genius. It's retail price is about the same as the OP-XY from your last video. Which one would you recommend for making full tracks?
The perfect name for this drum machine as you can feel the " pulse" .. lots of texture .. good vibrations .. big sound .. super walk through .. cheers and thanks!
To me the Neural Labs Scrooge wins for weird glitch percussion, much cheaper, Eurorack standard and totally unique. Surprised you haven mentioned it yet. I finally got to play with one yesterday in our local dealer and it was off the wall
There is a way to make kick more beefy. Recursive mod. Also, it is hard to compare Pulsar with Tempest or Analog Rythm (especially AR and all those kick machines).
@@LiamKillen The idea being, get the attack more logarithmic and decay exponential by applying recursive mod. I managed to get way more subby kicks than this, but I think Pulsar was never made for bottom rattle, it is 4 voice of madness just like Soma.
@ it is modulation. It is a technique developed in order to change the shape of the envelope. Some envelopes are extremely linear, and older synths do not have the control over the attack and decay curve shape - with recursive modulation, you can get more logarithmic or more exponential curve for any envelope rise or fall stage. It is just a fancy name of modulating one envelope with another envelope. If you want to make decay more snappy, you can change the curve of the envelope decay by modulating envelope decay with another envelope (attack or decay). In Modular World MN Maths are good example for this, or any function generator that allows modulation of the rise/fall or attack/decay. Also, some modern synths that have digital envelopes have this control by default (hydrasynth comes to mind, 3rd wave too). But in order to do this, you either need auxiliary envelope on a synth, OR external envelope in modular setup.
I don't think its a drum machine. Its a lab arrangement for weird atonal, anti rhytmic noisescapes. I sold mine after a short time because i thought its too expensive for such a niche and because with those alligator clips and 10 V standard does not easily integrate with eurorack.
I notied a lot of eurorack folks mentioning the same thing - it seems that if you're an integrated eurorack person, this might not be the best choice for you.
@ the patch posts on the original were custom parts and are expensive for Soma to produce so they created a lower cost version using off the shelf screws instead to cut that cost. That’s it
I think you make conclusions really too much early , especially for the kik drum : there is so much tips and tricks to get a fat kik instead of just moving the drive knob 😂LOL

I’ll explore that some more! Thx!
the pulsar needs to be loud as foowk for that heavy monster sound.
That would be cool to use with an mpc to sample all that analog random goodness into reusable loops and shots.
You are absolutely right
Or an octatrack

Thanks as always for watching! I personally would recommend the TR-8S for what you’re looking for 😊
I just learnt that those are not just outputs at the back. Works both ways
Hoooold up - didn’t know this
Well of course, that's what the 1/4 pins at the bottom are
So cool! Vlad is a genius. It's retail price is about the same as the OP-XY from your last video. Which one would you recommend for making full tracks?
The OP-XY for sure - but the quality of the Pulsar23 is just on a whole other lvl
Wwwhhhooooaaa !! It' s a beast ‼️ ho, i wish you a wonderful year 💥
Appreciate you!

Cheers to you :-)
I’m a gear guy, and this thing looks intimidating.
It is at first - i still ahve a lot to learn TBH. But overall, it's a very fun unit.

I just looked ! It seems awesome ! :-)
@LiamKillen I'll look forward to your video, happy new year to you and yours
I have no personal experience with the machine but I’m taking taking Surgeons words for how the kick translate well to big sound systems
Fair play

Will def try this out

What is the “recursive mod”? Is that “modification” or “modulation”?

@ Thank you for your thorough reply, I really appreciate it. I will look into it more, but have you firgured out how to do that with the Pulsar?
Sounds a bit like a really big, really expensive Bastl Kastle Drum (which I really like, but wouldn't use as my main beat machine).
Yeah it’s in its own category
Liam using… patch cables?! All in due time…
I … will … not … give … in
You’re gonna love it 😏
This is scary. I love it!
It is kind of scary! Haha

Fantastic drum machine!
Me loves it !!
been GASing for this machine for years. sounds so damn good!
It’s truly an incredible unit
B&H has the best price for the screw version, just takes about a month to get because it’s a special order. Worth it.
@@SamplersAndThings whats different on the screw version?
@ the patch posts on the original were custom parts and are expensive for Soma to produce so they created a lower cost version using off the shelf screws instead to cut that cost. That’s it
Wow HUGE sound 😮
Absolutely!
10v into the BD MOD
😏

I find that even omg distorts it which is cool but it loses punch 🥊
just bought perkons instead...just dont did the right choice !😂
Yeah they have similarities for sure
I like the perkons better to tell u the truth
Fair assessment
plugs would have been much better than clips
Perhaps
