Being spiritual without sounding like a granola-cruncher.....being religious without proselytizing.....that's how I define a good man, a good American, and in this case, a good song.
Don thank you so much for posting this for me. I hope that all will enjoy and closely listen to the lyrics. There was a time that I heard Waylon sing this when I really needed to hear the words. Thanks to everyone on the channel; and especially to you Don for posting songs not everyone has listened to and giving honest and heartfelt reactions! #UTRCM
Hi Don, I'm at a loss for words, which if you read the way I usually blabber is quiet the accomplishment. ...... What a song thank you Don, and thank you Clifford my friend. Whew!!!!-----#UTRCM
@@RockN2Country After hearing this. I did do a little research, it was 1st recorded by The Highwaymen. I listened to their studio version, still powerful, but you did a good job selecting this version, it is the definitive one IMO.
@@mikebarnett9012 Mine as well Mike. I remember when I was a kid being scared all of the time. This gave me another perspective at a time when I really needed it. #UTRCM
I hadn't heard this before, but it does fit what I've always thought of Waylon; as someone who was at his core very spiritual, but one who depended on his own experiences with The Higher Power rather than relying on what others told him.
That was such a soft, beautiful song. Another one that I haven't heard before. Thanks, Cliff. Did you notice some of the other famous people back there - Willie and Billy Jo Shaver caught me eye. Of course, Kris - he and my husband share a birthday today, but not the hair. Great rating, too.
Joyce I am truly grateful that you enjoyed the song. It is very special to me personally so it means a lot that you enjoyed it. Blessings to you and yours.
@@mikebarnett9012 Indeed he did Mike. Just before he passed he did an interview with Jessi Colter and he said that he felt it was the best song that he had ever written...
@@mikebarnett9012 Thank you so much. I relooked and the first site I checked did say Johnny Cash. Multiple sites are saying Waylon wrote so we will go with that. I have learned might want to check multiple sources.

Kris Kristofferson is there with him that's pretty good
My man you need to do something by Andy Griggs. Something upbeat like YOU MADE ME THAT WAY or a ballad like SHE'S MORE
Waylon wrote it and like someone else said Kris did it on a Waylon tribute.
RIP WAYLON ARNOLD JENNINGS and BILLY JOE SHAVER
Johnny Bond - Pink Little Elephants or Ten little bottles
I had to look it up but it doesn't surprise me this song was written by Johnny Cash.
@Leslie79 Well now that makes a lot of sense given Johnny's theological. background. Thanks for looking that up. 🙂
I looked it up as well, and I know the internet is full of information and misinformation but the sight I looked at said Waylon wrote it himself!

Everyone wants to be acceptable to everyone else. Doesn't happen.
George Jones - The Last Thing She Gave Me Was The Bird or Call The Wrecker for My Heart
