Ive lost my daughter at age 37 and my 2nd wife at age 38. Its hard to listen to this and at the same time a very healing song to hear. The things music can make us feel! Thankx. Don,you make this the best chann out there. Glad to be part of the family …so to speak. Much respect to you and your wisdom reacting to songs that touch us all.. dan. 4/14/22
Don, how fitting you decided to do this song. Today, 30 years ago, Keith Whitley passed away. Wow! Such a touching song and I remember when Lorrie Morgan sang this.
Her version of this song hit the Billboard Country Singles chart on Aug. 3, 1991. I peaked at #9 being on the chart for 20 weeks. This same song entered the chart on October 28, 1972 for George Jones. He took it to #5 - it was on the chart for 16 weeks.
We just can't hear that song enough. Everyone should sing it. The old songs and our seasoned singers should be with us always, who is filling there shoes . Kat
Don, there's not a lot of people that would take on such a heart breaking subject as loss like this. You've brought a lot of comfort and optimism to those around you in hard times where others might not dare. I think you've created a nice "Rockn2Country family" here. I've seen true blue love and support, and also bumps in the road along with the funny side of learning our differences's, but it's a nice place to be!
@Erv Klein Thank you for the kind words and sensitivity toward others, Erv. And I am sorry about the early loss of your mother-your sensitivity undoubtedly is informed by knowing deep hurt and confusion. I’m glad you found us here and look forward to your observations whenever you’re thus inspired. -Don
I dont think everybody understands the impact that he would have had on country music!!! He had a very big impact on me and so did Lorrie Morgan. I love and miss him so badly!!!! I was at a loss when they said he had past away!!!! Rest in Paridise Keith i know your waiting for Lorrie so you can be together again. ❤❤❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏
Karen Partin my heart goes out to you, Thanks for sharing Don this is one of the reasons I love this Chanel so much, Christine Ems said it best we feel like a family here
Oh,thank you so much.I've been waiting for this. This is the song that makes me think of my late son,Randall. He was 25 when he was murdered.Shot to death while he was sleeping. A sensless death. What you say is so true. There are no words to comfort a mother's loss. I was devastated.I just wanted to die because part of me died. This song is how I feel without my sweet son. >>>>A Picture Of Me Without You.
I can't imagine the loss of a child. The loss of my husband who was my best friend, my soulmate was devastating enough surely cant hold a candle to the loss of your child, especially in such a senseless manner. God bless you the rest of your days and you will remain in my prayers from this day on.🙏
@Karen Partin It's humbling to try doing justice to such a song as this with such meaning to you, but thank you for trusting me to do something like this for you. I've known a few folks who've lost children, and they move on with life but it is never the same. The years it took them to smile again were the hardest, and sometimes it hurt them to breathe. I'm glad that you're able to come here and maybe get some joy in some ways, as I know the folks here are sensitive to that kind of hurt. Thank you again, and I look forward to seeing you around, as I always do. :-)
I have found it interesting when a woman sings a song which many associate as a man's song. Like Ashley Campbell singing Poncho & Lefty and The Highwaymen.
Don I just discovered your channel and I'm burning through your Keith Whitley videos and you HAVE to do "tell Lorrie I love her" it guts me every single time
This is a great song George, did a great job on it as he does on everything, but Lorrie, Did it great to, it's a shame to lose someone as young as Keith, was another great country music singer love this kinda music.
One of my all time favorite singers, and my musical taste is honestly all across the board, every genre, all decades. Thank you for your kind, uplifting words as most people have been touched by loss. Keep up the great work. More Lorrie and please some of my favorite country singer, Crystal Gayle.
Actually, her Dad, George Morgan was the original Artist for that song, then George Jones did it, and finally, Lorrie did it, and Lorrie has the best version of it between the 3.
You should play Lorrie Morgan's "IF YOU CAME BACK FROM HEAVEN" the best version is the one from the 1994 cma awards show. My husband died in 1995 and I cried every time I listened to this song and looked at his picture.
@Joan Stedman Thanks for the recommendation--I just added it to the list. Please be patient with me since the list is kinda long, but I should get to it in February. Thanks again, and welcome aboard the channel!
Very well said, Don!! Such a hard subject to talk about, but should never be overlooked or ignored... Beautiful Song and Lorrie certainly holds her own with the George on this one. Both versions are beautiful! @Karen Partin I'm very sorry for your loss 😢 May God be with you until you can hold your son again. My brother was crushed by a forklift he was driving at work, on his 19th birthday. My mother had just taken him a birthday lunch, right before it happened. I know how agonizing it was for me to deal with, but I know it doesn't even compare to the pain my mother endured...and still does 21yrs later. My best friend was killed in a car accident 2yrs ago. Her brother died suddenly a few years before her accident. I couldn't even begin to imagine how a mother could handle losing 2 of her 3 children. However, their mother pushes through and lives each day for her daughter that's still living and her 5 grandchildren, and prays for the day when she will see her children again. All of you mother's who have lost a child/children are the definition of inner strength and truly understand what unconditional love really means! With a strong faith in God, you continue to push through and focus on the glorious day when you will rejoice in His presence and be reunited with your baby. tlbuddner Keith Whitley was an alcoholic for many Years...going into rehab several times only to pick alcohol over his family... They had a son together and he adopted Lorries daughter Morgan.... Lorrie wasn’t responsible for Keith’s drinking and she wasn’t responsible for his death .... Keith was an amazing singer wish he was able to get his demons under control .
I never heard Lorrie sing this song. Hearing her again brings me back to my highschool days. Some I know blame her for Keith's death, but I feel that is a little unfair. Addicts are addicts for a reason. They choose to do what is harmful. No matter what others around them do.

Wow never heard that story but if that's the way it went down, then I'm with you. Not really surprised though...she is from Nashville where it's pretty much a requirement to trade your soul for a spot in the lights.
She felt really guilty over doing that tour.
tlbuddner Keith Whitley was an alcoholic for many Years...going into rehab several times only to pick alcohol over his family... They had a son together and he adopted Lorries daughter Morgan.... Lorrie wasn’t responsible for Keith’s drinking and she wasn’t responsible for his death .... Keith was an amazing singer wish he was able to get his demons under control .
@@lindacook4032 Good point Linda...I've seen it from both sides and neither walks away undamaged.
David Emswiler unfortunately so true...she never had anymore children , they had to grow up without a father .
I never heard Lorrie sing this song. Hearing her again brings me back to my highschool days. Some I know blame her for Keith's death, but I feel that is a little unfair. Addicts are addicts for a reason. They choose to do what is harmful. No matter what others around them do.
