@@Indy_Girl He sang that one song about "things that I don't need -- like a cold-hearted woman, whiskey in my water, and only one way out of a motel room." Guess that's how he came to flush it!
I remember you saying that you used to watch The Dukes of Hazzard. Waylon Jennings sang the theme song for the show, and he was the narrator for the show.
Wrote the theme, too -- and the single version shows his sense of humor with the alternate ending, "I'm just a good ol' boy, you know my momma loves me, but she don't understand why they just show my hands and not my face on TV." Good old Waylon...
@@seangates1451 I spent the entire 80s not knowing what that reference meant. Waylon Jennings is truly one of the greats. We almost lost his great music when he gave up his seat in the plane that killed Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Richie Valens in 1959. His death would have changed the careers of a lot of very famous singers that went on to record his songs.

Waylon was one of the original "outlaw" country artists. He stated in an interview that the Nashville establishment wanted you to dress a certain way, play a certain way, sing a certain way, and act a certain way. They wanted to make him into something he wasn't … he said screw that and just did things his own way. He has a son, Shooter Jennings who is a country artist, and is pretty good in his own right. Shooter actually played the role of his Dad in the movie "Walk the Line" the story of Johnny Cash, starring Joaquin Phoenix.
The Outlaw was my first introduction to music and Waylon will always speak to me with songs like this,I've Always Been Crazy, Ain't Livin Long Like This and Lonesome Awnry And Mean.
Here is the reason why Waylon Jennings started to laugh. In the original recording, he and Willie Nelson did a duet of this song. And in this live version, he was trying to imitate Willie Nelson on the part where Willie starts singing. And when he was unsuccessful, he started to laugh at his failed attempt to sound like Willie Nelson.
This was my late Mom's favorite song which she got to hear from him before it came out on record or tape. We met him a t our hotel door but was wrong floor lol! So our room was a floor down. Odd the floors had same room numbers.
Waylon Jennings was right there with Johnny Cash. Waylon Jennings started out as a disc jockey at 14 & was a part of Buddy Holly's band. He did so much in his life. Was a common person at heart and this song is about how is wife loved him in spite of his drug alcohol addiction abuse cheating ect.
btw the guitar he's playing is his signature guitar. I'm also guessing this song is about his 2nd(?) wife Jesse, who literally saved his life a 2nd time. also a fun fact, he was supposed to be on the plane that killed buddy holly, Richie Valens, the big bopper aka the day the music died.
Waylon, most of the time, was laughing at himself during performances. One of the band might hit a wrong note, or one of the backups be a split second slow. His songs were mostly written about himself and his life. The ability to laugh at himself and be honest with his audiences were one of his greatest appeals.
Waylon was laughing a bit when he sang the part that was sung by Willie Nelson on the original single release (it was duet). Curiously, the song released was a live version 100% by Waylon, but then Willie was brought in later and overdubbed some of lyrics to make it a live/studio "duet". I've seen Waylon hold one side of his nose closed while he sang Willie's (twangy) part before too. Waylon had some great tunes... and having Mooney on slide guitar was great too for the Waylon sound.
Waylon was the first Country artist that I listened to. He was classified as Outlaw Country. He sang this song as a duet with Willie Nelson. I call his music, Kick-a#* Country. He has many good songs. He played and sang the theme song from Dukes of Hazard, originally- the t.v. Series.
Some of that was ad libbed for fun, clowning with the audience. He had a goodhearted woman in real life. Her last name escapes me, but her first was Jessie. She performed with him at times.
And Jesse Colter was a singer too. Yep. She was his good hearted woman. It takes not only a good hearted woman to put up with that, it takes a very tough woman. Like Loretta Lynn and all the crap she had to live with her husband. Though they put up with their wild and sometimes abusive husbands, they did not put up with their misbehavior. I have heard Loretta say many times that Do never hit her once that she didn't hit him twice. LOL And it is a wonder she didn't kill some of his women, he had on the side.
He was in Elvis Presley's band, he sang a lot with Willie Nelson. He was considered as part of the rebel movement in country. Which included; Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams Jr, David Allen Coe, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Kris Kristopherson
Right before he laughed he said Willie which he was singing Willie's part. They wrote the song together and recorded a duet. The audience was in on it.
Waylon he's was the leader of outlaw country. He and Willie would do a lot of songs together including this one and he was trying to mimic Willie in part of it. Waylon got his start pretty much when he was 19 and playing with Buddy Holly. He along with Willie, Jesse and few others stood up against the record companies for having more control over their music. The result was how country music is today for artists
I HAVE THIS ALBUM. THE RECORDED VERSION HAS WILLIE NELSON SINGING ALONG. WHEN I SAW THE HIGHWAY MEN (WAYLOON, WILLIE, JOHNNY CASH AND KRIS KRISTOFFERSON) THEY DID THIS SONG. MOST PEOPLE KNOW WAYLON FOR SINGING THE THEME SONG TO THE DUKES OF HAZZARD.
Thank you for playing Waylon...I was such a fan of his..country music was amazing back in my youth...how about some Rebate MacIntyre or The Gatlin Brothers or Doug Kershaw.(😄)
He wasn't laughing at anyone in the audience, that's just the way he sings. He throws those little grins and stuff out there to engage and interact with the audience.
When he passed away in 2002, Waylon Jennings was married to Jessi Colter, who is also a singer. They married in 1969 and during their marriage they recorded many wonderful songs together, as well as separately.
Dude, He is the ORIGINAL OUTLAW. His wife Jesse Coulter even sings as backup. Jesse had some hits back in the 70's and she met Waylon on tour and opened for him (in more ways than one) and the rest history.
This is freaking good country music folks! Sitting here stomping my foot on the floor and singing this, love Waylon but I will say the collaboration with Willie on this is the better version
Waylon Jennings is best known for being part of the Outlaw country music movement he also play temporarily with Buddy Holly and the Crickets as a bass guitar player he was actually on the tour with Buddy and gave up his seat on the plane that crashed and killed them to the Big Bopper there was actually a story he told that when Buddy Holly found out he wasn't getting on the plane he said I hope the old bus freezes up and Waylons response was I hope your plane crashes those were the last words that two friends said to each other it bothered Waylon Jennings for a long time after the crash a good song for you to try from The Outlaw country is Highwaymen it is sang by Waylon Jennings Johnny Cash Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson
Just a minor correction. Holly and the Crickets split up and they were not with him on this trip and so he asked Waylon to play bass for him. This is the trip he gave his seat to another and was not on the plane that crashed. But Waylon was never a part of the Crickets but was a close friend of Buddy Holly.
Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson did the best version of this song. In that version he says "Willy" when Willy comes in to sing. He kind of did it here, that's when he laughed.
Waylon Jennings I had an album when he had short hair, guess he looked like what Nashville wanted him to. I was a kid but I recognized a great voice. Think my older sister gave it & few other albums when she gave me a record player for Christmas. I only remember the album by Waylon, don't remember the others.
The story is that in the 59s Waylon was in the band with Buddy Holly He gave up his seat to Richie Valens on the plain that crashed and killed Buddy, Richie & the Big Bopper
Waylon Jennings married a fairly famous singer/song writer, Jessi Colter in 1969 and they remained married until Waylon's death in 2002. She stayed with him, even during his worst times when he was addicted to drugs...although it's said she almost divorced him then. I think one of my favorite Jenning's song is America. But as far as duets with his wife...the one I like that Jessi wrote, is called "Storms Never Last" which was also covered by the group Dr. Hook.
Waylon Jennings was one of Buddy Holly's band members... It was Waylon who gave up his seat to JP Richardson (The Big Bopper) on the plane that crashed killing all aboard, including Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Richie Valens.. As well as the pilot...
I don’t if you’ve ever done Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin, but it’s one of the most iconic rock songs of the 70s. Anyway, after that you need to see Heart performing the song for Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center Honors a few years ago. It is something I love to watch repeatedly.
He may have been laughing because he was doing what is usually Willie Nelson's part of the song on the record. And no nobody can really fill Wiliie's part. That's just my guess. As for who this guy is, Waylon is a country legend as well as he almost ended up on the famous plane that crashed and killed Buddy Holly, Big Bopper and Richie Valens. I think Big Bopper was the one who took Waylon's seat on the plane instead. So, according to Waylon, he could have very well not been alive.
Since I don't know when this was taped it is possible Waylon was high as a kite! He had an extreme cocaine habit. He wrote a song about it a long time ago. The first time he preformed in New York City, country music hadn't become popular. When they took the stage Waylon told the audience we're going to play y'all some country music hope you like it. If you don't keep your mouth shut or we'll kick your a**'s. Again so he said in an interview. Waylon, Willie and the boys were quite something!! LOL but boy do I live their music!!!
Waylon played Bass for Buddy Holly. The night of Buddys fatal plane crash Waylon was supposed to be on the plane. He gave up his seat on the plane. Buddy and Waylon joked around and Buddy told Waylon I hope you freeze your ass off on that freezing old tour bus (which had no heat) Waylon joking with Buddy said I hope your damn old plane crashes. It did and it took Waylon over 20 years to get over it. The day Buddys plsne with Buddy, Richy Valens and the Big Bopper crashed is known as the day the music died in a song called Bye Bye Miss America Pie by Don Mcclean
Thanks for sharing on Waylon. Love and miss him a lot. This live performance was not a good example of his talent, though. (Not the best sound/acoustics.) I imagine there are a ton of requests below for "Amanda", and it's a good one. But try to listen to "Wurlitzer Prize" and his cover of Dylan's "Don't Think Twice". Both of these seem to showcase what this man could do with a song.

Waylong wrote the theme and was the Narrator (called The Balladeer- he even had a guest starring role on it once) on show called "The Dukes of Hazzard "(sadly PC types have tried to ban it) 1978-1985

But as far as duets with his wife...the one I like that Jessi wrote, is called "Storms Never Last" which was also covered by the group Dr. Hook.
loves me in spite of my wicked ways
Waylon Jennings was one of Buddy Holly's band members... It was Waylon who gave up his seat to JP Richardson (The Big Bopper) on the plane that crashed killing all aboard, including Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Richie Valens.. As well as the pilot...
That's my man there!! Waylon 🥰❤
I don’t if you’ve ever done Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin, but it’s one of the most iconic rock songs of the 70s. Anyway, after that you need to see Heart performing the song for Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center Honors a few years ago. It is something I love to watch repeatedly.
reading about these artist on Wikipedia will help. You will be amazed
Waylon singing with his wife Jesse Colter. This is real country music!!!
Waylon was born 200 years too late. He should have lived with Billy the Kid and Doc Holiday.
I get your point, but me thinks your math is a bit off.....
Thanx for the info. I actually knew that but said 200 to expand the Wild West a little more without writing out a bunch of names.
Bro I play this on the weekends and the young folks love it (surprisingly)
I guess it's just a loose love tune
❤️❤️❤️Waylon❤️❤️❤️
Waylon Jennings... the definition of Outlaw Country (even though he sang "Don't you think this outlaw thing is getting out of hand?"
MacArthurs Park revisited. They told him with his voice he couldn't do the song. He Killed It.
Love Waylon! (God rest his soul.) You should listen to his song "Rose in Paradise." It's beautiful and haunting.
Wow, you don't know Walyon??? Listen to"Mama Tried". Love your video reactions. Amazing how much you never knew about. You should play something you know and love that we may not know.
"Mama Tried" was written & performed by Merle Haggard, not Waylon.
@@pageribe9412 You know what? You're right. That must have been a rough day for me. Sorry 😐
Waylong wrote the theme and was the Narrator (called The Balladeer- he even had a guest starring role on it once) on show called "The Dukes of Hazzard "(sadly PC types have tried to ban it) 1978-1985
The singer of THE DUKES OF HAZZARD THEME SONG
