How to Use a Paint Sprayer to Paint a Wood Fence - Thrift Diving

  • #ad - We have this old wood fence in our backyard that has always been very ugly. Lots of weeds grow in this area and I'd never done anything with this space because I thought it was too shaded. But with a pretty coat of paint (I added just 1 coat) using a Wagner Control Pro 130 paint sprayer, and some de-weeding, the fence is now soooo pretty, and there are fruits and veggies planted in this space! See how I used a paint sprayer to paint my wood fence and to add a small garden! (Contains affiliate links)

      In regards to the fence around the garden to keep the cats out you might want to try to make it taller if at all possible because in my experience with my garden cats can jump way higher then you think.

    Thanks for posting this video! I have a 60 ft long picket fence that needed a new coat of paint in the worst way, and I found your video while searching for tips on painting fences. After seeing what a great job the Wagner sprayer did for you, when I saw one at Lowe's that was 10% discounted for being a previously-opened box, I snapped it up! My fence is now finished and looks great!
    If I could do it over again, I'd make sure to buy two to four times as much paint as I thought I'd need. I ran out partway through and had to run out to buy more! LOL. It also takes SO MUCH TIME to clean properly - plan on at least an hour. A big chore, but I guess you still save time by not having to brush and roll!

    One pro tip...ALWAYS strain your paint from the can to the sprayer. You may think because it's new you don't have to do this but use a strainer and you'll be surprised at the little bits of junk in the can. This will save you from clogging the sprayer tip and having to stop the job and clean it out.

    Serena I hate to tell you but that little fence may stop a small dog from trampling yr garden but it won't deter a cat. Cats are very sensitive to smells. Mothballs work but have to be replaced after a rain. Citrus peelings repel them too. Check with your Garden Center they may have other repellents available. Also try planting a bed of catnip away from your garden to entice them to that area instead of your garden. Good luck!- love the fence color!!!

    • @ThriftDiving
      @ThriftDiving  4 роки тому

      Ooh, good to know! I am hoping that they feel no need to try to climb into the garden. Lol. I was worried about the garden beds I did a couple years ago but they completely leave those alone with the fencing around it, so I'm hoping they'll leave this one alone too. I'll keep this in mind with the other natural deterrents too! Lol

    I think you just helped me pick a fence color! I have 2 big, ruddy red plum trees out front, and my fence is currently painted brown. It makes the front very, very dark. I didn't want to paint it shocking white, but couldn't figure a good color. I think if I find a gray similar to yours it will look great!

    • @ThriftDiving
      @ThriftDiving  4 роки тому

      YAY! Glad I could help! This color is absolutely perfect and I don't think any other color would have looked as good as this one did. :) And just think: it's only paint. If you don't like it, you can always re-paint it! Buy just 1 can first, and do a test area. If you like it, keep going! :) Good luck!

    Love the fence that is awesome. My fence needs a complete makeover to. Not in this year's budget. So when you use a spray painter and you have drips what do you do do you bring a brush along and you brush them or does distance from the sprayer to the fence prevent drips?

    • @katherinebecvar
      @katherinebecvar 4 роки тому

      I found that if I was careful about not spraying too much in one place, I didn't have any drips. But I was also using a very thick, premium exterior latex paint. A thinner/cheaper paint might have more problems with drips.

    You skipped a couple steps. The reason why the fence is green is because it's covered in algae. It need to be washed with a 50/50 bleach solution let dry and then wash off with a water hose. High pressure shouldn't be used on a fence, once coated with the bleach solution just wash it down with a hose. Let dry then paint or even better stain

    I wanna buy one of these but there $300 near me. After painting half of a log house on the exterior I think I might invest in one for the rest should literally save me 10-20 hours as i spend about 2 full days 18 hours roughly just painting 1/3-1/2 of the exterior

    Hi Serena, how many square feet is that fence and how tall is it? I'm trying to figure out how much paint to buy. I'm planning two coats and want to try to get it right as the paint here is very expensive and the fence is asbestos, which means it'll likely suck up the first coat. Cheers from Western Australia!

    Wow no one’s talking about how she painted her neighbors fence? What I f her neighbor painted their fence bright pink and it got on hers. Very tacky and just plain rude.

    Gray?? Ugh that’s such an ugly depressing color! Maybe if it was more translucent maybe

    Have you mixed anything in water to get rid of mold and dust from fence before painting or just tap water

    Love your video and the fence looks great! I just had one installed and can't wait to stain it. I watched a lot of videos, but the flowers got me on this one. :-) I'm going to 'copy' that idea. Thanks for the video!!

    bad thing about double sided fence is - you won't be able to reach wood between sides ( where gaps are ) , when you look from an angle can you see some old not painted spots ?
