I'll see your Willy Wonka and raise you a Mad Hatter.
I agree, I think Mad Hatter was much worse than Wonka
Yeah that stupid dance he does is the worst thing in the world
I'm shocked that Mad Hatter was not on the list.
Really, most of Depp's work in the last decade has been pretty weak. It's like he decided that after Jack Sparrow was such a hit, he should just start being as weird and eccentric as possible in his roles. Then it's either that, or flat boring-ness like Transcendence.
I feel like he should take a break from wannabe blockbusters for a couple years and do nothing but some lower-budget character-driven movies, to ground him in reality again.
Agreed, the Mad Hatter was an awful mess but that was Burton trying to impose order on the chaos of the story. Whereas the Wonka portrayal, though strange, had what I thought was the clever awkwardness of someone who has lead a fantastical life but has no experience dealing with ordinary people, a kind of monster who doesn't want to be seen as frightening anymore, as well as a man-child confronted with his own mortality. We knew Charlie wasn't going to evolve as a character because he's perfect to begin with, so Wonka had to have the change.
*insert angry Tim Burton/Roald Dahl 'purists' that are raging in the comments section*
Thomas Fredrickson lel
mad hatter aggred
I really don't care when people bash on the Tim Burton version, but once you start bashing the book, that is where I draw the line because the book is a masterpiece, and everyone should read it.
The Tourist was good movie. Shows 100% of Depp awesome style
I really want a top/bottom 5 for Tim Curry.
Even when Tim Curry is "bad", he is great!!
Totally, which is why it's be a great couple videos!
I hope Clue gets at least an honorable mention if he does that, Curry was brilliant in that movie.
No.1 The concierge of the Plaza Hotel
also a top 5 crazy for tim curry cx
...although thats going to be difficult XD
Number 1 Worst Performance: (tie) Australia Apology Video/Amber Heard's Husband
Too soon
I agree, that apology video is still too recent in my memory.
(shivers)
I had missed the apology video, so I went to see what that was all about. And wow! It may be too soon... but when we look back, history will agree with you sir.
Hahaha OP that was hilarious ty for that
Best/Worst Kate Winslet performances, please?
I actually like Charlie & The Chocolate Factory a lot. As a big fan of the book, it's a better adaptation than Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory. It's way more loyal to the book and Tim Burton's signature style makes the Factory a really interesting place to visit.
But just because it's a better adaptation it doesn't means it's a better movie. I never liked Johnny Depp's Willy Wonka. It's worse than the one from the book. He's awkward and unfunny all the way through (With a few exepctions) I didn't like his performance when I was younger but when I finally got to watch Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, I grew to hate it even more. How could have anybody think that stupid performance could make justice to Gene Wilder's Wonka?!?!? Such a funny, charming & cynical character was turned into an over-the-top moron -_-
Long story short: I really like Tim Burton's Charlie & The Chocolate Factory a lot, but Depp's Willy Wonka is awful.
ObsidiusFan I like it too, but, his acting is a lot like what wonka would be like if you met him real life
But it isn't loyal. Wonkas backstory wasn't in the book. I can agree with the factory looking nicer, but the original was the 70s. Anyway, the newer elements from the original were more iconic.
To be honest, I don't really like either of the films - Gene Wilder is the one of the only good things in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, that man deserved a waaaay better movie.
Both films get things right, but other things are completely wrong. For instance, Depp's Wonka is cringey, but the set design of the 2005 version is much better than in the 1971 film. The music in Willy Wonka is still timeless and gorgeous, but I always found the Oompa Loompa way too bloody creepy to enjoy their scenes.
If someone could somehow combine Gene Wilder with Tim Burton's sets and Deep Roy's Oompa Loompas, I think we'd be much closer to a good adaptation, but personally I think the book will always be better.
Twelvetree12 Deep Roy's Oompa Loompas were terrifying.
Dude, did you see the ones in the Willy Wonka? I legit had nightmares D:
I'm surprised that Mad Hatter didn't make this list just for the Futterwacking dance alone XD
I feel like most people block that movie from their minds
I know that movie's hated and all but I really like Depp's portrayal of the Mad Hatter. The worst character in that movie is Alice by far, which is one of the major flaws of the movie.
I agree with you on that one. I feel they re-routed Alice for the sequel, which while not very good either, was actually one of the better parts of it. At the very least, Mia Wasikowska acted like she had emotions then rather than as a piece of wood.
The Jinxed Jailer | IKR? The second movie fixed many things actually, I really like it.
Eh, I don't see how it was that bad. I actually liked it even though it does have its flaws.
he needs to stay out of chocolate factories
i like Tim Burton's chocolate factory, much more then the old one, that one was just weird, i mean why are the carrot people?
Why are there a billion clones of a big guy that turned small?
Sorry :3
the actor of the oompa loompas was actually that short
They made him a lot smaller on screen then he actually is.
I prefer Burton's version more..
Because that's how they were in the book in the book they were native tribesmen who all looked similar
I absolutely love Johnny's Willy Wonka. Yes, I like it more than Gene's. Johnny adds just a bit of disturbed to the character that makes the whole movie more interesting.
DO. NICHOLAS. CAGE.
Hard to choose. Did he ever perform good?
Basil Ma that's why I think it'd be interesting. His best movies are also his worst
#1 best performance: Raising Arizona.
are you kidding me? all Nicholas Cage performances ARE FUCKING LEGENDARY. HOW DARE YOU QUESTION HIS HOLINESS?
Samuel Jackson Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.
His performance in mortdecai was nice and as willy wonka he was brilliant
You know that Roald Dahl hated Gene Wilders performance?
That always makes me chuckle
Calum Tyler after all the crazy stuff he wrote, I don't really trust Dahl
Roald Dahl was most likely an anti Semite and Gene Wilder is from a Jewish family. idk but i've always thought that that might have something to do with his dislike (in 1983 he told a reporter that 'the Jewish character provokes animosity' and was vocally against Israel).
***** I didn't know that, cheers. 😀
***** *thank you
as someone who read the books many times and love it.. the Remake is way better, but that part with Johnny Depp trying to be hip was just cringe-worthy. But hey, in the new one the river looks more like chocolate, and not like sewer waste.
No it isn't.
welp. that's your opinion.
Gizmos Monster And the remake being better is yours. Don't act like it's a fact.
Your Friendly Neighbourhood Bleach Salesman fine enough. just saying even though the original was good with better music, the remake was more like the book. which is a fact
Gizmos Monster Yes, that's fact. Doesn't make it better, but it is more accurate.
Johnny was great as Willy Wonka
Vegeta Solo charlie and the chocolate factory was the first movie i have ever seen of his and I loved it.
I loved this movie and Mordecai and Transcendence
Vegeta Solo I think it was shit. He was awkward and uncomfortable as a character and had nothing on the original Gene Wilder performance
@@lamondlense In my eyes it is not classified as "shit" Maybe not much of a thought through movie.
I honestly love Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Johnny Depp's performance as Wonka in it is a huge part of that.
There wouldn't be good performances without bad performances. Johnny is incredible and I would probably still enjoy watching his worst movies. The dude himself is just overall awesome
You made the best mini speech,Good job 👍
btw not being sarcastic
Agreed. I LOVED transference, and laughed my ass off with mortdecai. The lack of emotion or overkill is what these characters are to be portrayed. That is a skill that Johnny depp possesses and why he is sought after to be in the movie.
1. Charlie and the chocolate factory wasn't a remake it was a new adaptation from the mind of another
2. As much as I respect Gene Wilder (RIP) I wouldn't count him being the type of guy you should ask when looking at new adaptations of Dahl's work mainly because DAHL HATED HIM!!!! he wanted some French comedian as Wonka but they forced Wilder into the film and Dahl knows what makes his work, work
3. Dahl's widow liked the Burton version and said the he would have loved it as well
Additional: they're called nostalgia goggles you and Doug need to learn how to take them off because this is like his old vs new of Willy Wonka all over again not even giving the film a single speck of credit
You do realise Dahl only hated him because he was Jewish?
Dude don't go there I prefer to look at the positives of the guy, also his issues were with the performance not with his religion
i
Mr Critical Eh? I like Gene Wilder more as an actor and as Wonka, so I don't see what you're saying. I'm just pointing out why Dahl disliked him.
Sorry the picture I've seen of him was with him in a berei so I assumed
mortdecai is a hilarious film, many will disagree with you. i agreed on three but mortdecai and silly wonka. he played them amazingly. most know him for his roles in that and captain jack sparrow. this video would have been a lot less offensive to people if you had put “ in my opinion” in the title. also. channel awesome? what a name
He's channelled Terry Thomas brilliantly and the whole Ealing comedy pantheon, so probably too British for the US since they're not going to get the references. My son and I laugh like drains still... after watching it more than 10 times!
mordecai is funny
I loved Mortdecai
I found him so annoying in Mortdecai that couldn't watch the movie :D I turned it off after 30 minutes. He had no chemistry with Gwyneth and I couldn't even understand what he was saying...he probably forgot that he isn't playing a drunk pirate any more and needs a clear pronunciation.
Depp is great in Wonka! I liked that they made the film so different from the original.
WHOA, I'm really surprised you hate him this much as Wonka. I think he completely disappeared in the character which is a good thing. I like this movie a lot - much more than the original. *sorry, don't kill me*
Johnny's acting is never BAD - so here are my least favourite performances:
1) Transendence
2) Lone Ranger
3) Nightmare on Elm Street
4) Alice in Wonderland
5) Arizona Dream
Also, you should cover actresses too. There are countless great ones.
I agree (exept blow I realy like that film)
Christina Stork eccentric candy maker verses pretty sure he's a pedo candy maker. Not even close.
He's not a pedo at all, the reason he is shown to be so childish is because it covers his emotional and mental state. He works around candy, based on the stereotype that children love candy. He also wasn't allowed to eat many candies as a child because of his father, which created a hatred for his father. He runs away, and grows up to be the Candy inventor. At the end, he is shown returning home to his father and finally making up. All of this has to do with not a fight, but the reason he is so childish, and that is because he never really grew up in the first place. The movie sets a point that a childish mentality allows you to have more imagination than others. He has father issues, and socially isolated himself for years which created what you see today. In the modern time period he's in, he has no idea what it is like to live on the outside of his factory, which is why I have appreciation for the character. Use your brain, not biased nostalgia. I love both equally.
Creepy middle-age man lures children into his home under the pretext of a contest, chooses one and then expects that child to live alone with him. That's obviously not what they were going for, but that's how it came off.
I have a little something to say to you about the supposed willy wonka "remake". are you listening? are you listening? okay, here goes.
IT IS NOT A REMAKE OF THE GENE WILDER MOVIE!!! IT IS A REINTERPRETATION OF THE BOOK!!! THERE IS A DIFFERENCE!!! Tim Burton CLEARLY did not make this movie for the sake of capitalizing on our nostalgia and for the sake of baiting us with something familiar to us. Yes, the Willy Wonka story is very well known, but he took risks with the story. He provided visuals in his own Tim Burtony way, he had an all new take on the songs provided in the movie (representing different genres of music), he attached an ENTIRELY NEW MORAL to the story that wasn't previously there, and most importantly, his Willy Wonka was entirely different from Gene Wilder ON PURPOSE. Is it good? that's up to interpretation; I've heard some people argue it's actually more accurate to the character in the book (I wouldn't know since it's been so long that I've read it) and if you still hate the performance you are entitled to that, but if you're going to judge it, Judge it by what it tries to accomplish, NOT ON WHAT YOU WANT IT TO BE. The Tim Burton adaptation is nothing like the Gene Wilder movie and it's not trying to be, SO STOP COMPARING.
It's funny that you called Gene Wilder "the real Willy Wonka" since Willy Wonka's creator thought that Gene Wilder was as far from the real Willy Wonka as you could get.
Don’t matter. Gene Wilder performance was still far better than Depp’s
@@gabrielanthony1129 Thank you for your idiotic, irrelevant comment 4 years later.
No mention of Dark Shadows on this list?!
I was surprised, too. The script was very bad, but Johnny's flat performance made it worse.
Try Top 5 Best/Worst Mark Hamill Performances
I'd be down, Marks one of the greatest VAs of our time.
It'd be easier to do a best list because I can't really think of anything bad Mark Hamill has been in, well I can but he plays minor characters in them and he's really the only good part. *cough* Metalocalypse *cough*
That's gonna be hard considering that he's played SO MANY good roles over the course of his career.
The problem with "worst" performances is that he's only ever been in *one* bad role. Everything else he's ever done has been gold.
P O W E R C O N V E R T E R S !
I'm sorry but I love Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, when I watch it it just feels like the book I loved reading as a kid. Yes Depp's Wonka wasn't great, but it's not like Wilder's Wonka was perfect. The book Wonka was an eccentric mad scientist who seemed to generally care when the kids got in to trouble in the factory, and he did try to stop them, Wilder's Wonka didn't give a shit and Depp's took way too much pleasure in it all. I love both Wonka movies and don't consider one to be better than the other, they both have their pros and cons. Personally I think Burton's version had the superior Charlie, music (with the exception of Pure Imagination and Candy Man), and visuals, but the Wilder version had the better Wonka, Grandpa Joe, and side characters in general (although I think the kids are equal in both films).
If I could pick a number six worst performance, I'd pick the Big Bad Wolf from into the woods
I don't know. The Wolf is SUPPOSED to have pedophilic subtext, if I remember correctly.
Gee, I actually liked him in that and was disappointed he didn't have more scenes.
+FoxyWhite Yeah, he is. In the stage version, the Big Bad Wolf is actually MORE creepy and predatory than in the movie. The costume for at least one production included a fake penis so that the point was loud and clear.
***** The entire red riding hood story entirely could, arguably, be just as much about pedophilia as stranger danger. In the original story, there is no woodsman to save Red or her Granny. The wolf eats them both and that's the end.
"It was Tim Burton's job to reign him in" -- Have you ever seen a Tim Burton movie??
Respect to Gene Wilder but the old film just isn't that great. It's too light and fluffy. Dahl himself HATED it and his wife said he would have much preferred the newer film .
The trouble with Willy Wonka was that Roald Dahl saw and DESPISED Gene Wilder's movie adaptation of it.
I'd like to see him do one of these for Gary Oldman.
John Sayles yeah the worst thing Gary Oldman has done is Red Riding Hood
just make sure first that gary oldman will appear number ONE best performance for the mighty DRACULA
Mollsy 101 I dunno, there was Little People.
Best/Worst Arnold Schwarzenegger performances! PLEASE DO THIS!!!
Here I am, one of the guys defending Charlie and the Chocolate Factory whose arrival you predicted.
...I think it's fine. It has flaws, but also strengths. Strengths being the supporting cast, the music (including the Oompa Loompa songs, I like how the lyrics stick to the book and each song has its own music style, but that part I'd say is the most subjective in the movie), and the visuals. And weaknesses being goody-two-shoes-cardboard Charlie, Johnny's performance as Wonka and giving Wonka a pointless backstory. Was it a pointless remake? Of fucking course. It has no purpose of existing other than cold, delicious cash. But is it shit? I personally don't think so. But then I try not to compare it too much to the original.
I agree that Johnny depp doing a bad performance on willy wonka wasn't his fault. I still think that movie was a bad movie. But the one movie he is best played as is in Pirates of the Caribbean.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is NOT bad
Fun Fact: during the production of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory Depp wanted to sport prosthetic makeup for the part and have a long, elongated nose , but Burton believed it would be too outrageous.
I think the role of Jack Sparrow clicked something in Johnny Depp's head and he newer came back. Just like the Joker did to Heath Ledger
I disagree with the Willy Wonka being number one because this remake was done differently from the original and I thought it was very good. Truthfully it was entertaining and it was more accurate to the book.
I like Tim Burtons version of Wonka, the characters are more fleshed out, the songs are cool, but....Wonka himself belongs to Gene Wilder
You're completely right with the Willy Wonka one. In the books Wonkas childish in a way that he's excited about everything. But he's still very mature, witty, and kind of scary in how calm he can be in situations.
How about... Samuel L Jackson ?
as much as i like him (its one of my faourite actors) much of his performances are basically the same
Django Unchained and Star Wars are the most diversity I see in him. His voices in Afro Samurai are also pretty solid. So I'll step out and say he has some diversity. Can't blame him for getting paid to do the same thing over and over again basically. Pay me $5 million a year (I'm guessing more for him) and I'll be the same part over and over again.
Dishonorable mention: the apology to Australia.
I didn't read the book but Deep's Wonka looks like a dangerous psychopath. Gene Wilder was warm and friendly. Deep is just creepy.
abel sanchez So does the one in the old one
Depp's Wonka was just cringe and awkward. Gene's Wonka did come off as friendly for the most part, but there were definitely undertones of a schizophrenic sociopath in his performance. Remember the tunnel scene? And the fact that there was a lack of concern for the children being harmed, multiple times?
Wilder's Wonka didn't come off as warm and friendly to me, he came off as someone who didn't give a shit whether the kids lived or died. In the book Wonka seems to actually care and try to save them from themselves. Though he does shrug it off afterwords.
Wow, no Tonto or Mad Hatter? Definitely some of his worst. I'd have put them in top 5 worst.
One of my favorite Depp performances is in What's Eating Gilbert Grape, where he proved he could play more than unusual eccentric roles. Nowadays if he's not playing what's either Jack Sparrow or Jack Sparrow in a different costume, his "normal" roles are so dull.
I liked Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I liked the songs as well.
In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... CG Environments?
The squirrel scene, boat ride and glass elevator were the only fully CG shots. Even the Deep Roy Oompa Loompa effects were most often accomplished with multiple passes with a very expensive camera rig. Burton went nuts trying to put practical effects everywhere, and the vast majority of sets were completely physical places as a result.
I know this sounds weird, but I would put Jack Sparrow on this list. Not the one portrayed in the first four POTC movies, but the one in DMTNT that killed the character.
No it didn't
So the moral of this list is that Johnny Depp shouldn't work with Paul Bettany?
I liked Mordekai
I did too
I used to think Johnny Depp's Willy Wonka was creepy, but after watching the movie a few times, the strange performance grew on me. I like Gene Wilder's Wonka because he was more subtle and mysterious. I can't say I like one over the other, but rather feel that they're simply different character interpretations.
Do Michael Keaton! Simply because I'm young(23) and I haven't seen many of his movies other than the obvious popular ones. But I like the guy.
Top 5 Worst Johnny Depp Performances=Johnny Depp playing himself 5 times
Wonka was perfect
Harry's Dimples yeah the Gene Wilder one
I entirely agree with #1. To me Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is one of Burton's worst films, with Planet of the Apes, Dark Shadows and Alice in Wonderland being a close second.
It's just that Tim Burton is always best when making his own original material, and not lazy remakes and adaptations. Such as Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Edward Scissorhands and of course, Big Fish.
Save for Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children. I thought it was a great adaptation to the book, despite some...questionable changes to some of the characters.
Some that ended up very good (Samuel L. Jackson as Barren and Eva Green as Miss Peregrine)...and some not so good (swapping Emma and Olive's characters and turning them into generic love interests.)
Big Eyes was pretty good as well, which's supposedly based on true events.
Top 5 for either Angelina Jolie
or Eddie Murphy
Top 5 worst Ben Stiller performances !
Kurt Russell! He's got a lot of good performances:
Tombstone
Escape from LA
Backdraft
3000 Miles to Graceland
The Thing
Heath Mordin Sky High. Meerakle
He's great! He did an amazing job in The hateful eight, although Sam Jackson stole the show
"Breakdown" is one of Russell's most overlooked\underrated movies IMO. It's a great little low-budget thriller about a guy whose wife gets kidnapped and he has to go get her back, before Liam Neeson trademarked that role.
+Scott Sandler Sky High. Greatest performance in the history of ever
Love him as Stuntman Mike
Says #1 spot is Willy winks johnny depp. Explains 75% of the time how the movie itself, not the character, didn't live up to expectations and the cgi was terrible. Cmon dude of course it matters if the movie is close to the book. Also you should care, but I am just rambling now.
The only thing I like from willie wonka was his dad, all hail the late great sir Christopher lee
You should do Top 5 Best/Worst Brendan Fraser Performances
Brendan is awesome
5) I'm pretty sure Johnny didn't want to be in this movie, which would explain his performance.
4) Here, Johnny is so bland. Yes, he’s playing a computer. The thing is that, in order for there to be a debate about whether WILL is still himself, he has to still act like a human. In fact, his wife EVELYN does react like he’s her husband and I didn’t understand why, since Depp is so emotionless.
3) To be fair, everyone except Paul Bettany gave a bad performance here.
2) I haven't seen it.
1) I'm not sure if this is performance is bad. It's certainly contradictory. WONKA is very open about how he doesn’t like people, specially the visitors. And yet, he always has that huge grin and that attitude to draw attention and be liked. In fact, Johnny said that he based his performance on hosts of children shows. It makes no sense. You could tell me that it’s just the way he is but, unlike the original version where he was an enigma, here we know for sure that he’s a human being and had a regular childhood. Well, sort of. The point is that he knows when he seems weird to others.
Missing from the list: THE LONE RANGER. Johnny is good at playing goofy characters, but that's not the same as goofying around in front of the camera. Here, it feels like he's not taking the movie seriously.
Why johnny doesnt want to be in the tourist
Top 5 Best and Worst Ben Affleck Performances.
😱How did you know?!
Awesome_Walter I didn't.
***** Watch The Town, Argo and Gone Girl and then we'll talk. And I hear he was pretty good in Chasing Amy too. Plus, he's the best live action Batman since Keaton.
+Awesome_Walter You're profile pic couldn't be more fitting
D Vass I enjoyed his performance in Chasing Amy especially this one scene that was so awkwardly hysterical I couldn't stop laughing for 3 minutes straight XD
1:10 Her criminal significant other is the villain from Captain America: The Winter Soldier? Now that IS a twist!
"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" is not a remake of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." Its a separate adaptation of the book "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." And, while the 2005 movie has its flaws, it's actually a much more accurate adaptation of the book.
And a better one at that
Johnny Depp trying to be Willy Wonka was just cringe worthy but at least the chocolate looked really good and it was a nice factory . I remember being creeped out by him in the movie though . Ugh !
Damn, Gene Wilder had no chill with that response. But he is Justified.
I'm with you Walter. I really hate Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka!!!!!! One of the worst films I saw!
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is NOT a remake!!!!!! It's another adaptation of the 1964 book
I like his Wonka, but I didn't care for this movie. Charlie is Whimsical Jesus kid, Wonka's back story is Edward Scissors hands all over, and the end is more stretched than a Laffy Taffy. The songs and the multipurpose Oompa Loompa was stupid. I didn't like any time the Ompa Loompas were on screen, which was the thing I enjoyed the most as a child. Nailed to my seat wondering when and how the Ompas where going to be on the screen.
I would have not mind if the Ompa Loompas were fully CG in this movie like Smeagle or like any dwarf character in Harry Potter.
How does Johnny Depp suck as Well Wonka
No Lone Ranger?
To be fair, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is the movie that I think Roald Dahl would have wanted (he hated the original). Does that mean it's good? No. I find the movie (and Depp) incredibly preachy, obnoxious, and all around mean spirited.
While I agree the Wonka remake was bad all around, personally I think Depp made his own unique spin. He wasn't trying to be like Gene at all, but be his own version and its one of the better transformations from Depp where you really can't tell its him
Like pretty much everyone else, I predicted that Depp as Willy Wonka would be on the list. I didn't expect him to be Number One, though.
On that note, I actually like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but Depp is easily the worst part of the film. The original movie is a lot better.
Thank you! Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was Garbage.
I'm sorry but when I see you all I can think of is Zach Snyder.
Depp hasnt had a good performance in a decade...shame
correcting someones spelling is a compelling argument!!11!!
Black Mass
He was okay for 2 minutes in 21 jump street
Black Mass, The Rum Diary and Sweeney Todd (for which he got an Oscar Nomination).
Don't forget Pirates of the Caribbean
Funny thing : Roald Dahl said the first movie was really bad and that their portrayal of Willy Wonka and of the chocolate factory in itself was totally wrong.
I liked the Tim Burton version more than the older one. And I grew up watching both.
I hated the original Willy Wonka and enjoyed the version with Depp a lot more.
Johnny Depp probably wasn't good in 'The Tourist' because Angelina Jolie didn't like working with him. They hated each other while making that movie.
I don't know how, but Gene Wilder's Wonka manages to be both scary and reassuring, even at the same time sometimes.
Sandra Bullock, Whoopi Goldberg, Denzel Washington
I walked out of the theater when watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and then banned the DVD release from entering my house. #1 is where that deserved to be.
You stupid? Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is WAY better than Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and more accurate to the original 1964 book
Nice video Walter. My only complaint is that the flickering on the LED strip you use on your DVD wall is distracting. Other than that keep up the good work!
It's funny that, even though I didn't grow up in an English-speaking society and never watched oiriginal Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, I've still read the book. And even its sequel (yeah, it had a sequel). So anyway, Tim Burton's movie was the only adaptation of the book I've seen, and I think it's not great, but still solid. I have a strong feeling that most of the movie haters don't like it simply because they feel like it has no right to remake their nostalgic movie from childhood.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was way better than Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
Bobbie Grimes I disagree full heartedly. But I can definitely see why someone wouldn't like Fear and Loathing. I love it to death, but I get it.
Fear and loathing is a masterpiece. But you have to know about gonzo journalism and catch the spirit of the late 60's to understand it fully. People love it or hate it. I love it and I have seen it many many times with friends. Deep is great in that movie because he really managed to be like Hunter S Thompson (who is doing a cameo in the film).
Isn't that like comparing Life of Pi to Manhunter?
You want a challenge, Walter?
Do the Top 5 Worst and Best Performances of Nicolas Cage.
I'm just tired of asking
For the best robin Williams performances
I hear you.
Fuck yes.
Then stop asking? I'm sure they'll get around to it soon.
Kody Ketchum, you would think but as of right now they haven't
I got an ad RIGHT BEFORE YOU ANNOUNCED THE WINNER
Depp looks like he's in physical pain all throughout Willy Wonka.
One of the best "Top X " kind of format series on youtube.
I get that Tim Burton's Willy Wonka isn't as good as the original, but I grew up with it my whole childhood, and I still freaking love it.
Please do Best/Worst Mike Myers!
DanDomin8 I bet 1 for worst is the cat in the hat
The most unnecessary remake was Total Recall
Did anyone notice what Number 5-3 had in common? All those movies also starred Paul Bettany, who is usually regarded as a great actor as well. Weird.
Since it's October can you do a top 5 best and worst for horror movie legend Vincent Price?
Ok Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is WAY better than Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory!!!!!!!!!!
Essentially in Mordecai Depp was doing a 13th Duke of Wybourne impression. An obvious homage to Paul Whitehouse.
I would've placed Mad Hatter as number one and taken Wonka off the list.
Actually, those environments in Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory weren't CG. They literally built that entire chocolate room from scratch and even created an actual waterfall of chocolate. And the same goes for the other locations in the factory. Check out the behind the scenes for it. It's actually really interesting how much work went into it. Plus, those songs were great. I really prefer those Oompa Loompa songs over the old ones where they just kind of hobbled about and droned on.
Plus, Gene Wilder calling the movie bad is interesting but Roald Dahl called the first movie bad as well. Considered it an insult to what he wrote actually. It's like a conga line of opinions here.
I liked both movies.
